    Your Opinion

Justify? Don't know. Most people I associate with play MMOs. I've never actually been in a situation where I felt I had to justify reading comics, playing video games, watching cartoons, etc.
  2. Yeah.... hmm... well, Cricket's cool and all but...

    *mutters* doom.

Ya gots some mighty big shoes to fill, Cricket. Um... didn't mean you have big feet, Cuppa. "Nice!" I meant "nice" shoes. Yeah. Mighty nice shoes.

Anyway, best of luck at Tabula Rasa, Cuppa. And welcome/congratulations to Cricket.

I'm level 4. I can fight five people at once and jump as FAR as my hero with sprint ON, and as HIGH as my hero with sprint OFF.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wow. Considering the minimum jump height is something like 7-8 feet, I'm impressed. Sure, the game says it's something like 11 feet, but it sure as heck doesn't look like it.

    [ QUOTE ]
What about you? Don't wory, you can say -1 or -13 if you want, just tell the truth.

    [/ QUOTE ]

One of the problems with real life is that if you don't use certain abilities, you lose them. These days, I'm probably a Level Zero, but in my prime, I hung with a pretty tough crowd. I was probably Level 5-ish, but with no AT, so all my slots were in Brawl (somehow, I had access to all of the Fighting Pool, as well). Since then, I've gained 80 lbs and become a smoker, so... Somewhere along the lines, I respec'd and now, all my slots are in Rest.

    Comic #10

    [ QUOTE ]
You see lots of pairs of breasts that are separate near the chest itself, but merge into one freaky uniboob towards the front?

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, but in the real world, there are no inkers. Where you're seeing "merge into one freaky uniboob," I'm seeing a faint line that separates them all the way to her push-up bra thanks to the colouring.

    [ QUOTE ]
Also, the Malaise thing suddenly occurred to me this morning. As someone said in connection with the Galaxy Girl backstory fiasco, what's the point of having this huge, authoritative story bible if no-one bothers to read the damn thing?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Meh... we've also heard nothing in-game about Manticore killing anyone.

    Comic #10

    [ QUOTE ]
No-one seems to have pointed it out publicly yet, probably because it just went online yesterday, but Comic #10 is up.

Now, page 6. I ask you, my fellow Co*-ites, [censored]? Am I just misunderstanding panel 3 on page 6? That's Numina talking, not Sister Psyche!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes. Whoever lettered the book should be windwhipped.

    [ QUOTE ]
Also, page 13. Breasts don't look like that. Especially Swan's.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Look like many that I've seen. As for Swan's, they do look like that when they're being pushed up. This gets no complaints from me!

This was probably the best book I've read in the past month.
  6. Endolphins say, "So long and thanks for all the fish."
  7. I'm an oldtimer. When someone says, "RPG," the first things that comes to my mind are pencils, paper, and strangely-shaped dice. The words "console" and "RPG" don't seem to fit together in my lexicon. For many, many years, the words "RPG" and "computer" didn't seem to fit, until I started roleplaying in MUDs and on AOL's free form roleplaying forum. This is really where today's MMOs stem from, not any consoles... anywhere. Not until the advent of MMOs were there computer games that brought the "pen and paper" feel back to RPGs. The socialization was never as big a factor in the console games (if it ever was even a factor).

Also, in console games, there's not much of a "role" play. It's more akin to "Choose-Your-Own-Adventure" novels than any actual attempt to choose a "role" for your character. And frankly, this is one area where CoX falls short. Characters don't really have "roles." They just do the same things, day in and day out, and everything is really pre-determined.

As for the people who've joined MUDs/MMOs, I think it's a mixed bag. On one hand, there are the 1337 people, who seem to think MMOs are just a console game with more people, but I've met plenty of first-time roleplayers on MUDs/MMOs that are really great people and excellent roleplayers, and I'll probably consider them close friends for the remainder of my life.
  8. Absolutely one of the best posts I've ever read on these boards. Kudos.

Many other 'Historical' regimes don't have quite the fantastic horror-story air that Hitler or the rest of the Axis leaders did. They're either still too recent or too obscure.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah. Notable exceptions (imo): (nobody expects the) Spanish Inquisition, Vlad "Dracula" Tepes, and Papa Doc (might be obscure to many though). Honourable mention: although not really the regime, Raputin's influence on the Romanovs has often been villainized into fantastic horror.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
As for SG costumes: it seems that most SGs in Marvel use SG colors. DC tends not to. Just because you are in SG mode doesn't mean you all have to wear the same colors and costumes. My SG functions a lot like the X-Men or Gen13 where everyone has a different looking costume with the same theme (black/white and the crash dummy symbol).

    [/ QUOTE ]

I wouldn't say this is necessarily true. Sure, the X-Men have the blue and gold colours, but most of their members do not use them. Typically, only the students have used these colours. Storm wears what she wants, so does Wolverine, Colossus, Rogue, Emma Frost, Havok, Polaris, etc. Only Cyclops, Bishop, and Kitty Pryde have traditionally worn uniforms (and in Kitty's case it's because, frankly, she's horrible at costume design). Avengers certainly don't. The only Marvel SG that does use an "SG mode" is the Fantastic Four.

This is really the case for most comics. The reason for it is because artists tend to loathe uniforms, because of their restricting nature.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
I entirely intend to do so, if it is based on inf.

I hate the idea of SG prestige buying bases, in a large part because my SG teams together pretty constantly, but never uses the SG mode, as the colors just don't fit with a lot of our characters. We shouldn't have to look like silly little gits to have a decent base.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, even in SG mode, you don't have to use SG colours. What I dislike is the fact that when you're in SG mode, you have to use the SG symbol on your chest. Many of my characters have custom chest details (other than symbols, like shoulder straps and whatnot) that I just don't want to do without. I wish there were a way to either choose no symbol for your SG or not use the symbol when in SG mode.

I also wish you could choose where the symbol was displayed (like on belts, capes, etc.), but that's neither here nor there.

who cares about signature heroes and villains? WHY CAN'T WE BE SIGNATURE?!

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's the whole "with great power comes great responsibility" thing. The general populace isn't responsible enough. If we were allowed to be "signature," we'd have naked people, thousands of trademark/copyright violations, and other such offensible things running around all over the place.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
And then, when I told my history professor about the Nazi Invasion of America during WWII, the whole class laughed at me!

    [/ QUOTE ]

It depends on what you would call an invasion. On June 14, 1942, two German U-boats landed teams of saboteurs on Long Island and near Jacksonville, Florida. They were later caught, and six of them were executed.
  13. Wow! Stateman spoke... twice! Um... Doom?
  14. Yeah, definitely, if don't know the difference, they're probably going to choose the first one. That's what I did when I first started. Since then, however, I tend to think of it from the POV of my character, and all of them prefer Galaxy, for some reason or another. Plus, there's a bonus to the lower population of Galaxy (don't have to deal with KSers, mobs are free, etc.).
  15. It's the blimp.

Why ask me? All of my characters start in Galaxy.
  16. I think the current series, thus far, is everything that the original series should have been. I didn't find any of the characters in the Blue King series to be likable, but I like all of the characters in the current series. I don't see how they've really turned anything on its ears.

I'm still scratching my head over the "disconnecting" in the first issue, though.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
Rent for bases? Whatever. I really hope that the people who are complaining actually have supergroups to run, because otherwise they're complaining about nothing. It sure as hell can't be that people don't have the influence to spend.

    [/ QUOTE ]

None of my characters have yet to see much more than 100k at a single time, and that generally needs to go for upkeep on the characters.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
It moves one facet of the game into something that more traditional money/time-sink games have. It doesn't change one bit of CoH that we already have access to right now. You don't want to pay some undetermined amount of rent for your base for a couple of months? Don't. It will likely be there if you change your mind. (With the exception of 'Items of Power', I would imagine.)

Consider the "rent" as doing community service for your city in return for a base. Right now, we're all freelance temps who have flexible hours and neglible obligations to the city. In return for your community service obligation, the city government will make available space for headquarters and new access to useful tools and services.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It might be cool to have an "earn your keep" type of thing, with mandatory missions being required to keep your base, but the paying of influence? Absolutely not. There are many things this game assumes, like the daily/monthly costs of general upkeep of yourself -- laundry, food, utilities, etc. Bases should be part of the same. It should be Pay One Price. Period. Exclamation point. The end.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
He also gave me the impression that players would essentially get locked out of their base if they couldn't make rent, not that the base disappeared and the items get auctioned off.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Reactionary? Maybe, but that statement in itself turns my stomach. I'm not disgusted at you for saying it, but for the devs for even considering it. This will be something that you have to not only earn but maintain through playing. This automatically moves the game from "casual friendly" into SWG.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Indeed. What's next? Is Icon going to rent us our clothes?

And that hogwash about "collateral damage" is nonsense. There's no collateral damage in Paragon. The Council can fire as many rockets from their rocket launchers as they want and hit things other than me, with nothing being damaged. I can blast away with auto-Fiery Aura and not scorch anything. If they want to bring any kind of rent into the game, then have item deterioration.

Besides, I already pay rent... it should be included in my $15/month.

This isn't reactionary. It's common sense.

Depending on who you ask, many also refer to Greek (and Norse, etc.) Gods as being more inherently human like. They lusted, they wanted, they needed, etc. Whereas the Judeo-Christian God is "perfect" and "wants for nothing." So the old gods were not evil, they were just human....kinda.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm just going to argue that there isn't, per se, a "Judeo-Christian" God. There is a God of the Hebrews and there is a God of the Christians, and never the twain shall meet.

And the God of the Hebrews is not perfect, he's a jealous God. He says as much himself.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Same god; different editor.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
Thanatos wouldn't realy compare to the Grim Reaper today, as the Grim Reaper supposedly plays a more active part in people's death, rather than just being the personification of Death itself. If anything, The Grim Reaper would resemble a combination of Atropos, the Fate who cut a persons thread of life when their time to die came, and Charon, who ferried the dead souls to the Underworld.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The image of the Grim Reaper (a creation of the middle ages) is basically a demonized (even moreso than the Greeks, themselves, demonized him) version of Cronus/Saturn, who was, among other things a god of time (hence chrono- = 'time') and before that, an agriculture god (hence his symbol, the scythe, which is the Grim Reaper's weapon of choice). Also, the earliest depictions of the Grim Reaper show him accompanied with crows/ravens, which were birds associated with Cronus/Saturn (probably from his argiculture background).

For the record, Discord was a demi-goddess. She threw, well, discord. She would start the wars that Ares would rush off to fight.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nit: Technically, her name was not Discord. It was Eris. Her Roman name was Discordia.

Anyone know what's up with www.cityofvillans.com? Looks like it's kaput. Be a shame if that's gone for good. One of the best demo resources out there.
