DUDE! NO XP FOR EXEMPLER!

Wow. I'm sure your level 50s will have trouble with that. What with trying to get to the next level and all.

I'm really looking forward to trying out a sonic blaster, or maybe a sonic/sonic defender. Archery... doesn't do it for me.

Swords are better than knives, but knives are small and can be concealed. Guns are better than bows, but... guns are small and can be concealed.

I guess a bow is more "hero like", what with Green Arrow, Hawkeye and their illegimate love child Manticore. But really...

However, all the defenders should just be happy they aren't scrappers right now. You get new powers, we get nerfs. Tanks get nerfs.

If they EVER introduce a new scrapper secondary (shield) I'll be surprised, as that would just be more work for the devs come the every three month nerfing time.

Us Scrappers got a lot of updates in I4. Look at all the nerfs we got. I guess we should be falsey pleased with all of them. All hail Devs. We bring sacrifices to you as poor peasant worshippers. NOOOOOT!

[/ QUOTE ]

Man, I love reading this. Defenders are balanced. [censored]. If defenders are balanced then so is Michael Jackson.

Let me ask, what is balanced about them?
That 3 of the primaries (Rad, Dark and Kin) can be built to solo AVs while 2 (Emp, FF) have no chance in hell?
That individual powers (RI, Darkest Night) are as effective if not better than entire primaries (FF)?
That (apparently) many defenders do not feel needed in higher levels (presumably due to Controllers being just as good/better)?

So how are they balanced?

[/ QUOTE ]

I think the balanced part of defenders is suppose to be the extra 9000 hours it takes for a defender to accomplise even the simplest missions and the wonderful impression of statues and/or corpses they do in the arena. Once all the other AT reach that level of perfection I am sure CoH will be perfect (ly uninteresting).

Also I think people are just looking at this wrong, it's not defender primaries that get getting shared with controllers, but instead controller secondaries and blaster primaries that are getting shared with their sidekicks the defenders. Defender's should graciously except the gifts of the real heros in the game, cause then maybe someday they will grow up and be real heros to.

Seriously ever notice how much better a blaster or controller is when they have a pet defender to cheer them on from the background. I just really hope that at some point defenders become Willows and not Xanders.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah. Try to destroy the world and not save it. Good point.

I would rather see new badges on the same theme. No, I have none of the old Hallowe'en badges. I'd just like to see event badges kept unique.

I'll second that motion.

The absence of a toxic damage type at launch is borderline inexcusable, but I imagine other things took precedence.

What surprises me is the lack of ability to add new damage types to the game without monkeywrenching the code.

[/ QUOTE ]

It always wigs me out, too. I didn't get the idea that it was a lot of actual code being changed, but rather tables of attributes for various powers. In either case, it seems ... painful.

I really could care less that defenders are shaing their powersets with blasters and controllers.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is gonna be a bit nitpicky, but why is it assumed that Archey and Sonic blast sets were originally meant for Defenders? Ranged blasts are a Blaster primary, so whose to say that Blasters aren't sharing them with Defenders and not the other way around?

Told ya it would be nitpicky didn't I?

[/ QUOTE ]

Because Statesman has indicated he's aware that defenders don't feel needed in the late game, and he indicated that the Sonic Debuff and Trick Arrow sets were going to defenders.

People have wanted for a long time (since launch, I would say) to have more defender-only primaries and controller-only secondaries. I don't think it's ever been a loud issue, but it seems to be a constant issue.

[/ QUOTE ]

I've got to say that having powersets that are unique isn't a good enough reason to have a team want a Defender instead of a Controller. If they did, that implies to me that even on Defenders that power set is superior to the other sets, meaning only Defenders with the new set would get the love. I'm not sure you want to "fix" the perceived high-level game by adding in "golden child" Defender sets.

What you want is for Defenders to be meaningfully better at using their primaries than a Controller. You never see people asking for a Defender or a Tanker to increase the damage output of the team. Likewise they really shouldn't be asking for a Controller to increase the defense/buffs/debuffs of the team.

The trick is doing that without making Controller secondaries very gimpy indeed.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yep. That's exactly it. It's not the powersets, it's the degree of efficiency with which each AT uses them.

Who knows, maybe Defs will get better buff/debuff numbers than controllers with Trick Arrow, in much the same way that electric blast Defs get better End Drain results than electric blasters in the Arena.

Pro:
The Issue looks awesome. I'm looking forward to Croatoa, since Striga set a new standard for zones and Croatoa will surpass it. Same goes for any Trials and TFs, the Hess TF set a new standard as well.
I'm happy we get new powesets.
The new mission types sound really cool, same goes for the events.
New badges are always welcome!
The graphics of the villains look awesome, it's getting better and better.

Contra:
"Only" 2 new power themes (sonic, archery). Limited to certain ATs. None of the long promised powers, like Quarterstaff or Shield (dare I mention Boomerang?).
The whole zone including villains is somewhat too fantasy for a superhero game.
No new costume options (throw in 4 per Issue, but throw some in! Can't be that hard.)

I'm looking forward to the Issue, but actually hope to be busily testing CoV when it goes live.

Info part

Long before Halloween, the Coven were already in the game files. They were then called Eochai. During Halloween, the giant pumpkin was named Eochai though. The minions were called Streng.
Eochai Info from last Halloween:
"The Tuatha De Danann and the Fir Bolg were tribes who fought for control of legendary Ireland, the Fir Bolg were the original inhabitants and refused to share the land with the Tuatha De Danann. Eochai was their king and their Champion."

The First Battle Of Moytara
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They came here when the sun was high.
The sea was calm to meet them.
From out of the wind above the hills.
Come a fleet of godly men.
Borne on strong winds from the otherworld.
Shrouded by magical mists-
The Tuatha De Danann came in their-
Great magical mystical ships.
Nuada, king of Tuatha De,
Turned his eager sharp eyes
Towards the land of his ancestral home,
The valleys, The sea and the skies.
He was a giant among mortal men,
A hero among the immortals'
Who led his people{warriors strong}
Back to the land of their fathers.
The Fir Bolg, Who were in Eireann before the Tuatha De Danann.
Sent Streng their mighty champian to parley with the future king.
Breas was sent by Nuada to find out his intent,
"I greet you as a brother", said Streng "By Eochai I've been sent".
The terms of battle were laid, half of Eireann Breas asked,
The Fir Bolg said this can't be paid, the time of goodwill has now passed.
Both sides made plans, they prepared their wells of healing,
Tribes and clans led by the chieftains and their kings.
The sun shone down on helmets, shields and swords,
Midsummers day-The two armies walked in haodes-
Towards Magh Nai-The Fir Bolg followed their chietains,
And swept towards the Tuatha DE like waves crash on the beaches.
The clash of sword and shield, The splintering of bone,
The Fir Bolg would not yield, Though they heard their people's moans.
The naked hillmen warriors, were forced back through the fight,
Followed by his bodyguard, The Dagda took their lives'
But the ground was piled high with the dead of the Tuatha De
All surviving warriors fled to live and fight another day.
"We have been defeated but tomorrows another day"
"Summon your courage. Prepare yourselves,
Tomorrow the Fir Bolg we slay"
Four more days of battle came and many fine warriors fell,
Mothers lost their fighting sons-The wounded healed in wells.
Nuada lost his strong right arm, Now he will lose his throne,
The sons of Nuada killed Eochai, But they too were overthrown.
Streng led the Fir Bolg to the fort and met with the injured,
Nuada, Both men declared a truce and Eireann was fairly divided.
I don't know if its been mentioned (too many posts for me to look at) but if anyone has read Harry Potter or played WoW it mentions Red Caps little fairy imp type creatures (which are from Harry Potter) and Fir Bolgs which is in WoW. Did they steal some ideas?
Steal Ideas?
You realize that Red Caps and Fir Bolgs have been around a helluva lot longer than Hairy Pothead and World of Walking right?
You might want to go back and read the rest of the thread, particularly the parts about Celtic Mythos and Religion in Ancient Ireland and Surrounding Areas.
Heh. Sure. Like Marvel stole Thor and Hercules.
I'm pretty sure thousand-year-old (and more) myth cycles have exceeded the limits on trademark.
And trust me I have done every outcast mission since Issue 1 came out and have never seen the mission you describe.
Tough Hide doesn't suck. Trust me when you get defense debuffs piled on you Tough Hide helps to counteract the defense debuffs.
Most reliable testing puts this power at around 5% defense with questionable stacking with Invincibility. That's not worth it compared to any other power in the set or many pool powers you could take (and slot) instead.
[/ QUOTE ]
Funny how I have seen inv tanks without tough hide die to stuff that tanks with tough hide surivived because they didn't get hit.
The only difference in these tanks was the prescence of tough hide. With it they survived more.
[ QUOTE ]
My entire strategy is not to die (or to let anyone else die). I refuse to spend power slots on a power that is predicated on a condition that all my other powers and slotting are designed to prevent. I could instead take another power that will improve my not dying.
[/ QUOTE ]
Guess Knives and Chimera's troops are not done by you or the shadow shard tfs.
Those are so far from the hospital and the battle so hectic a battlefield rez such as Rise of the Phoenix is most accepted.
You obviously don't understand where a regen revive would be of use. If they made it so the regen was unable to be hit and could slap on their toggles revive with MOG would be very usefull for large battles.
Well I hate to burst your bublle, but there is a timed Outcast mission where you have to save artifacts and hostages. And the artifacts are destructible.
I only manage to complete it successfully about half the time I do it because an artifact ends up getting popped.
I personally hate the mission, but I always try to finish it just out of principle. The biggest problem I run into, is accidentally agroing a second mob trying to save an artifact. The villains on the map seem to put a higher priority on the artifact over me, and I find a hard time keeping them all distracted depending on which alt I am on at the time.
It is there, just because you havent seen it doesnt mean it doesnt exist.
I've never seen a Mace Tank.
great still no new powersets for tankers
we have the least and now you devs are making sure we really have the least number of powers.
Croatoa. It’s a name that conjures up images both mysterious and fantastical. In Issue 5, be prepared to enter a new enchanted realm of supernatural danger, where myth becomes reality and ancient legends walk the earth. Croatoa is a place steeped in old magic, ruled and contested by witches, Red Caps, Fir Bolgs and the Tuatha de Dannan. Any hero who faces these creatures in the wooded depths of Croatoa will know the true meaning behind the title, “Forest of Dread.”
For complete details on what Issue 5 will bring to City of Heroes, including a new Croatoa Task Force, new power sets, mission customization, new zone events and much more, please visit our Issue 5 Preview Page.
No incentive to play a defender anymore unless you want to play Dark/, /dark, /psionic. At 80% funtionality between the two there is no point. Heck just hit 41 and you get ranged damage then also.
[/ QUOTE ]
yeah cause my three defenders are just useless when I'm teamed with a controller. BULL-[saving moderator8 the trouble).
You want to go to the trouble of getting your controller to the high levels though 32 levels of hell just to pretend he's a defender you go right ahead.
Cause lets face it, once you get your character to 40 we're pretty much all the same anyway (Blaster's have a gripe and its being looked into thankfully), we're all really powerful heroes, and it really doesn't matter who you team with.
You wanna itch and moan about it so much, go PM Cuppa to make you an Official Thread.
