nice info.
and i assume when you say "villain group" not all of them are actually villains. Considering the Military is in there along with Hero Corps, etc.

just a few comments/questions:

1. I've been subscribed since day one, w00t, as it were.
2. for NPC villains, I'd wager the Council will show its ugly, smelly, filthy face
3. about masterminds: if you mix+match primary and secondary powers, it could be possible to make the ultimate minions: PIRATE NINJAS! Take this story as an example:

It's a dark moonless night in Tokyo, you're on your way to visit your aged grandmother. Your parents always told you not to venture out this late but you never listened, what harm could possibly come to you? You turn down an unlight back street just as a cold wind blows by. You suddenly feel unseen eyes peering at you from just beyond the darkness, and that's when you hear it; "Yar." Then the glint of a steel hook. Your last thought before the cool metal slides between your ribs is "Pirate ninjas? The hell?"

That was an excerpt from "Twinkin' Out with Red Mage" at Nuklearpower.com, check the place out, it's one of the best sites ever, and it's full of things you can easily use as references in your posts. I'm not affiliated with the site, I just thought this would fit, and am writing this part in the hopes that lawninja won't come to kill me with litigation. Anyway, to continue:

4. Having seen how informed Clintonian is, I fell like a bit of a loser, unless he's been playing since beta, then it's okay, because he'll have been playing longer than me, otherwise, I feel lame for not looking for all of this myself.

5. I hope it's possible to customize minion costumes and other aesthetic details. That would be nice, because pirate ninjas need hook hands, eyepatches, and pirate hats on top of their ninja head wraps (or whatever they are)

6. To answer the question of the guy that interviewed Mr. Hensley as to whether any NPC heroes will be going evil, Malaise is evil again, whether or not he'll be in COV is yet to be seen (to see how Malaise got evil, refer to the Paragon Times about Sister Psyche's return to her body)

that's all, sorry for wasting all this space with my ramblings.

I've been in since CoH beta, plus I was born a news junkie. The original 'CoV Primer' was born from me putting together a crib sheet for a game in development that I was interested in that didn't have one before. CoV fever has caught on, and now the 'CoV Primer' is but one of many and focused mostly on the basics of what you should know, rather than all you could know. I have the sneaking suspicion that newer CoV-enthusaists will soon outpace my sustained energy level, hence this being the 'Last CoV Primer'. Plus, it's getting to be too much for one thread.

Cheers!

I agree. That's why I stuck with only official word, there's too much hypothesis' out there and not everyone tells the truth about what they see. Not calling anyone a liar, just taking player gossip with a grain of salt.

There's that. I also avoided specific power descriptions, zone names and descriptions, and I would have avoided proper NPC names other than Lord Recluse but I wanted to give people a visual crib sheet for ATs that they could use viewing the promo vids. That stuff is better for more specialized threads. You, and the other people linked at the the top of the thread, handle the non-macro issues better than I can or have the desire to do so. We're really a month or two out from having a 'Guide to Guides' post for CoV gameplay. For the people older than 25, that's a blink of the eyes.

lol, Well as a 25+(I'll never tell!!!!), I understand the 'fast paced' time track. I hope to wake up tommorrow and have CoV at my disposal! Of course with my luck, I'll wake up tommorrow and be eating steak through a straw.
With that out of the way, Mr. Clintonian I have to say the past year of forum surfing would not have been quite so much fun without your witty, informed, and generally chilled out posts. I salute you fellow Hero, and hope to cause much mayhem with you when our keyboards explode with Villainous intentions.
Keep on keepin' on my Brutha, and may you have long nights and pleasent days.

Clint, great job!

Here's a question...what will the server names be? I doubt Freedom and Justice will do for a villain, but then again, if I am to meet up with a Hero, certainly there must be a link between each....anything stated yet? (maybe each name will have a () with the corresponding server?

Very impressive guide Clintonian. Thank you for spending the time to put it together.

All the information has me salivating.. Thank you!!

My question is (apologies if this has been covered before):

If the FF ro HC os in CoV, will we (as the villains we are) be able to go up against some of the heroes from CoH?

Thanks,
Rich

Just stay in your box and shut up for now....villain interloper!

Oh, BTW, did we ever get info on whether the Villain powers were Lvl 1 or later? I know Clint's FAQ said "from the beginning", but I also thought that "No powers at the beginning" was still on...

Yes, I know..I should've looked at that a little better, yes?

If the Freedom Phalanx and Hero Corps will make an appearance in CoV, will we (as villains) be fighting hero NPCs from CoH?

I believe it the "endowment of powers sometime after level 1" idea was shelved for the standard CoH character creation, but I can't recall a specific comment to that effect off the top of my head. Add it to the "Ask Recluse" list...

Heh, I figured out what you meant right before you posted the translation.

From what I've heard, there's footage available somewhere of villain PCs taking on Mynx in a mission. She was rated as a "Boss" apparently, which answered my question about the comparable power levels as seen from the other side: what will superheroes con as to villains?

This one I might know. All server names for CoV will probably be antonyms of the CoH servers. It's only a guess, but it makes the most sense I've heard.

Great work on the new primer Clintonian! And glad I could help. ^^

Just want to throw something in:

Can you play CoH on one machine and CoV on another if you have them on the same account (you pay one monthly fee for both)?

There has been no official word on this, however it is a reasonable "No" since you are accessing the servers twice as much and requiring twice as much possible support for that access. If you are paying for both on one account then you are paying to access the server for either game you chose to play at that given moment. Any extra monies over the $15 for CoH would be going towards content development and not really server and support costs.

If you want to play CoH and CoV at the same time you will more than likely need to pay for two separate accounts just as you would currently have to when playing CoH at the same time on two separate machines.

CatMan - some form on every server

Always here, there, and there again.

For spoiler's sake (something you should be more considerate of ), I'll say something happened in the recent comic, but there has been no confirmation that anything will keep Statesman from making an appearance in CoV. In other news, the game and the comic are not tied slavishly to the same continuity. There will be inconsistancies, just hopefully none too distracting.

Soooo . . . if we've got a shot at the beta-testing slots, the good folks at NC Soft will contact us via e-mail automatically? If so, I'll put the kabosh on that basket of fruit and mini-muffins I was shipping to Austin . . .

Seriously, though, is that right?
