Just find a Group...
Statesman,
I think his point is this. I've roamed through the hazard and trial zones solo and in teams, the number of minions/lt. within a mob doesn't change with group size. They don't, I've been through Perez Park, Sewers, Faultline, Boomtown, Terra Volta, Dark Astoria, etc.
The spawn size is always the same, no matter the group running through the area. The mob make up is always the same. Pardon the pun, but it's like "clockwork".
If 3 minions = 1 hero, I've NEVER seen a mob with 24 spawns in it for a group with 8 heroes. The mobs don't change size, or if they do, I'm not around to see it. Considering the mobs are pretty statically sized in these areas, I'd rather form a small team and kick *** for more xp and more CHALLENGE, then a larger team and get less xp and less challenge.
If I go into Faultline, it is always the SAME mob of clockwork, or the SAME mob of Vahz. Doesn't matter the time of day, the team size, the level of the team, etc. I know where to go to get higher levels or lower levels of the appropriate gang. If the game is making changes to mob make-up, I don't see it nor have I ever observed this in the countless hours I've played the game. Every mob is typically within 1 or 2 levels of each other in these zones and are typically identical in composition. Some minions (don't have an exact count, always the same number though - never dramatically changes one way or the other), a couple cannon knights, a couple tesla knights, a couple princes, (clockwork ex. from Faultline). Doesn't matter the team size nor the level, always the same.

Peregrine was an experiment of a "mixed" zone. A hazard/city zone. We're changing it into a more typical city zone now.
[/ QUOTE ]
Then please remove the lvl limit on hazard zones at the same time so normal groups (who _always_ have SKs in them) can enter them.
Right now hazard zones cuts us off from grouping with our low lvl friends and therefore we dont go there.
[/ QUOTE ]
I love to see SKs be able to enter hazard zones, but if that isn't possible find some way to get SKs to door missions in hazard zones. Once the difficultly is changed and door missions become more viable I expect to do even more of these then I do currently.
It's a pain when you have to tell your SK 'please wait 20-40 minutes while we do this mission because you can't get to it, but it we need to do it to get more missions'. At least have the contact tell you if it's in a hazard/trial zone before you get it. City spawns are just too low if your group has 4 or more people.

You can call them what you like, but they are no different then what we have agreed is a hazard zone. The spawn sizes are no different for a single person then for an 8 person team. I checked that today just to be sure I hadn't missed anything.
[/ QUOTE ]
Nope. Go to Atlas Park. Count the number of foes in a spawn. Go to Faultline. Count the number of spawns. Atlas Park - city zone. Faultline - Trial Zone.
[/ QUOTE ]
Faultline is now a trial zone instead of a hazard zone?
I thought it was always a hazard zone that no one hunted in.

I just completed the Envoy of Shadows story arc (level 35 - 40) last night.
There is NO WAY any AT can solo the Envoy (ArchVillian).
We had 2 Fire blasters, an energy blaster, a fire/kinetics controller and an empath defender and we still had a major battle to take this thing down. Fire imps were useless as they were slaughtered as fast as they could be put out (and this is pre-nerf). This COT Behemoth has 11,000 hit points + dark shroud + regeneration. If anyone thinks they can solo this, I'd love to hear how.
After 40 there are many more missions with ArchVillians in them. So if you want to do all of your story arcs, starting in your late 30s through level 50, you will need to put together a team.

Huh.
Glad I got to 50 before that then.

The whole point of having a level restricted zone is so that all of the new exploration-oriented players don't log into the game the first day, get mentored by a level 50 friend, tour all the zones and then say, "bored now".
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't say this often, but if that's the attitude they log in with... I wouldn't miss them.
Why not buy a 3D land rendering program and make their own landscapes to oogle if that's the only motivation to play CoH?

SOs really change the face of the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
err damage SO's specifically IMO, but - yes.
States will probably never bother to read this but...

Ah - and as for the argument that mission XP "sucks." Yes, you do reap less XP/minute if you simply travel from your contact immediately to your mission door (which tends to be player behavior). However, if you fight some spawns on the way - and finish the mission with the new XP rewards - I think you'll find that missions are much, much more competitive XP wise.
[/ QUOTE ]
That works when you are lvl 5 going to missions in AP, Kings Row and Perez. That doesn't work when you are lvl 30 going to missions in Kings Row, Perez, Skyway, etc. My SG and I got 5 people together to do some missions. 26 Sk'd to 29, 2 x 29, 30, 31 (me). I went to my new contacts in Brickstown and got 3 missions. And the lvl 30 got 3 missions as well, but I don't know where his contacts are. Results? 4 missions in Skyway, 1 in Steel and one in Talos. How exactly are we supposed to street sweep on the way to the mission? Mobs 20 lvls lower don't give 'good' xp
IMO contacts should give missions for the zone they are in and nearby hazard zones. Yeah, I know travel is supposed to be a time sink, but come on. This would also save the lvl 10s from getting crushed by the lvl 40 ambush that got out run. (Sometimes I don't even know there is an ambush till I stop to chat for a bit. Mobs have no way to keep up with heroes with travelt powers)
Or, for a different take on it, missions for a mob groups should appear in a zone where that faction hangs out. The 3 missions in skyway we had. 2 Rikti and 1 Freaks. Why wouldn't the freaks just jump out and start owning the skulls and low lvl heroes?
On an unrelated, but similar note...
Last night on my 10 tank I was in the hollows and came upon a group of lvl 9 outcasts fighting a lvl 30 freak. Uhhh...wth? That sapwn is useless. Having mixed lvls is ok, but they need to be close together. 3-4 lvls max, not 20.

And if you can believe it, you can build solo Defenders that don't suck at street grinding (I think they'd always be better with an attack AT, though).
[/ QUOTE ]
Some defender builds are great soloers, particularly those that have strong offensive leverage, ala rad/storm/kin primaries.
The ability to solo well is I guess just measured by your own personal goals about progression. I am content with my ability to solo with my Defender. I'm one of those people who don't always have time to go find a team and see time go to waste when it turns out to be a bad team.
People who plan defenders for soloing can perform adequately, IMO.. not as fast, but probably paying a lot less debt in the big picture is a nice bonus. =)
With that said, I offer you this funny panel I made on the subject of good defender soloing.
Cheers!

The Statesman has stated, recently, that everything in CoH should be soloable for every AT. (no matter how long it could take)
So the OP has a good point.
[/ QUOTE ]
Technically that's true (with the exception of some monsters I'm sure).
I've soloed some AVs. I just had to wait until I out leveled them and they turned grey, but I did solo them. So it is possible.

Do you actually play your game from time to time? I keep hearing you say that you do, but if your toons are good for 3 minions, than I can only guess you are playing a controller.
[/ QUOTE ]
3 minions = 1 hero is the desired goal. That's approximately what it is at levels 1 to 22 or so. Past that, heroes become disproportionately powerful. That WILL be addressed soon after the expansion goes live (that has priority at the moment).

I solo'd the envoy. It took a long, LONG time, but I did it, and it wasn't hard. It was, however, 2 levels below me.
[/ QUOTE ]
One of my two most advanced heroes is MA/SR. She managed to solo Terra at -1: elude on, hit and run, massive insps, and keep snapping at her while waiting for Elude to recycle. Vindex was never perma-Elude, but could cycle it pretty quick. Took awhile to wear down Terra, and later AVs have massively stronger regen.
But even at -2 can't solo the Envoy (SR doesn't cut it against an auto hit aura, when you have to melee the villain). And wouldn't be able to dent Nosferatu, Nemesis, et al.
Strong ATs with specific foils to the AVs powers, working at ATs after they level to -1 or -2, can solo specific AVs. And I am sure someone has tales of taking an AV at same level. But it is very specific to the hero and the AV, and not the usual case.
My scrapper doesn't need an AoE. She IS an AoE.

Statesman, I am disappointed in you. Quite disappointed. You tell us that large player groups should move out of the city zones and move to the Hazard and Trial zones. Many posters including myself have pointed out that we can't, because of SKs. You have completely ignored us. Yet you have made several posts as soon as someone posted that the groups are no larger in Trial zones. You know how it appears? Like on the one issue the players are demonstrably right, and your "vision" can't be defended. So you don't post. However, as soon as someone takes issue with something where you think you can shoot them down, you jump right in. You have a great rep with the players, but your attitude in this thread isn't exactly giving it a polish.

I doubt if level restricted zones are going away. The whole point of having a level restricted zone is so that all of the new exploration-oriented players don't log into the game the first day, get mentored by a level 50 friend, tour all the zones and then say, "bored now".
Some of the content in the game you have to earn, like Badges, and certain Contacts.
Hmmm...there should be Badges at the appropriate levels for earning the right to enter level restricted zones. Hey, geko!...
