[ QUOTE ]
To be clear, zerg usually means to mass attack.

Same reason as the other guy posted, but I've never heard of it as acting stupid. Usually it means sending TONS of enemies at someone, like the zerg attacks in Starcraft.

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually I think both definitions are correct. ie:
"The freaking Vahz always zerg." Means that vahzilock always attack in large numbers.
"Don't just zerg, use some tactics." Is warning teammates to not just rush into a mission and blast everything in sight, but to go about it in an organized manner. This can sometimes be inferred to mean "don't act stupid", as rushing in and blasting everything can be a pretty stupid course of action sometimes.

Also, Purps also mean enemies that are way above your level, also referred to sometimes as "Grape(s)".
"Aaah, this mission is full of grapes!" (The mission is full of enemies many levels higher than me)
"They're all purp to me" (Every mob in question is several levels higher than me)

Something I use that probobly confuses people is say 'I r (blank)" Instead of "I am", usually when I've done something stupid or am acting like a nutcase for whatever reason. It's done in mockery of people who speak in l33t and netspeak (ur for you're, u for you, etc.). Examples: "I r smrt" (I am smart) for when I autorun into a pack of reds.

And Tsoo are ninja-like enemies that you start to see in Steel Canyon. Damn ninjas...

2 that I see (and use) all the time are:

BFE - Butt F****ng Egypt (meaning a long way away, example: My contact is in BFE.)

ec - endurance charge (I see this more than "end")

just wanted to say thanks for compiling this list. I hate the fact that I needed to print out this list just to get through a couple of help posts in this forum, but we don't all understand abbreviations and all forms of slang. Thanks a bunch for this!! Maybe i'll actually be able to team up with people and not have them be rude to me for asking them "Umm... what does that mean?" lol.

I normally see g2g as good to go, and gtg as got to go, and uber means super I do believe, pwned of course means owned, not really an abbrev but just so you all know, I could post a bunch of slang but I think I'm the only one that uses them from the old days of uo

LFG = Looking for group. As in: "L10 tanker LFG" = "Level 10 Tanker looking for someone to group with". See LFT.

When I use the term Agro, it's like this:

"Keep control of your pet so it doesn't agro and attract more enemies before were done with these."

Agro, as in farming. Going Agro and farming for enemies.

I use con to mean "what threat level color is the monster to you?", mostly used in hunting groups, as in:

Lvl20 = "What does X monster con to you? It cons green to me."
Lvl15 = "It cons purple to me."

Also, there is the role of nuker, which is someone that deals heavy damage, usually ranged, but can't tank well. The Blaster class is almost synonymous with the general term nuker. This is generally a spell casting class in other mmorpgs.

Thank YOU!

I will probably let this sit for another week, and then post a revised version that has all the additional stuff posted by users included in it.

Glad the thing could be of use to you!

i asscociate "purpes" with purple mobs, ie ones a good bit over your level and a tough fight, especially if theres multiple ones

Jay Doherty: Yes, there was this one night that I was ready to go home but had to drop the browns off at the super bowl before I left for home. While on the throne it hit me. I stayed for a few more hours and that why we have the pain pads in the game.

I made a "MMORPGese Dictionary" when I played AO. It has terms from several MMORPGs as well as generic tearms. I should start adding CoH terminology as well.

Here it is:

Dear god, I am away from the forums for a few months and suddenly everyone is calling their characters "toons". Who started this term and why weren't they killed immediately?

My team uses con the same way. Also as contact, as in "Going to con to get more missions."

Well I saw "toons" start cropping up early after the release of AC2 and was the most common term I saw when referring to characters... up to the day I left for CoH. No idea if it actually originated there though.

One I see a lot is LD = link dead or link died = disconnected, crashed. For example:

Did X quit?
No, he went ld.

The first place I saw it was a few years ago in a game called the Realm where the characters were actually cartoon-like. Also not sure where it truely originated but if I had to guess it would be the Realm.

Forgive me if I repeat any that others have mentioned:

RA : Recovery Aura
PA : Phantom Army
PP : Perez Park
SC : Steel Canyon (note that the I've never seen Skyway City referred to as SC)
IP : Independence Port
DA : Dark Astoria
TV : Terra Volta
ding: used alone to anounce that you just made a level, as in 'Ding!', or as a verb as in 'I just dinged 14')
Woot!: a type of cheer
gj : good job
gjt : good job team
snipe: to attack at near maximum range, using one of the few ranged attacks designated in the game as a sniper attack; Moonbeam and Psychic Lance count as sniper attacks; Fire blast and Lightining bolt do not. Sniper attacks have certain attributes which set them apart from other ranged attacks, but the main one that makes them useful to 'snipe' with is that they are less likely to agro the target's neighbors than other attracks, when used at very long range.
cc : Crowd control
dps: Damage per second, but also used to refer to blasters and scrappers (who are the 'damage' classes).
AE/AoE: Area Effect (AoE always seemed very wrong to me, but enough people use it that you should include it).
PBAE/PBAoE: Point blank Area Effect (360 degree area effect centering on the caster/user, as opposed to cone, or targetted AEs.
wth : What the hell or What the heck
jk or j/k : Just kidding (not sure why there's a slash there, but that's how I've always seen it).
meatshield : slang for a tanker
bubbler: a force field defender or controller
bubble: a force field buff
root: any ability which stops movement, or the use of such an ability.
snare: any ability which slows movement
mez: any ability which puts bad guys to sleep
dot: damage over time
spawn: how a bad guy comes into the game world
despawn: some bad guys disappear or despawn after a time
drop: any inspirations or enhancements you get as a result of defeating a bad guy.
end: endurance
exp: noun - experience; verb - to hunt for the sole purpose of gaining levels.
pl: power level
wife agro: this is self explanatory, but I've seen it used so often that it deserves its own entry

It's been around Everquest for a good long time now. That was my MMORPG background.
