Guide to Jargon & Abbreviations
Great post; I learned much.
One thing though, w00t means "we own the other team." It origianted in Counter Strike type team vs team games.
havent heard it used much here but in SWG when something was broken we would use the term borked.
eg. my gun is borked.
It's used here as well. While I think it's an artard expression, it seems to have stuck.
What does FoTM mean?
FotM - Flavor of the Month. The most recent and most commonly exploited build. Someone finds a nice tactic, or a overpowered ability and uses it to reap insane amounts of XP very quickly. Soon thereafter you'll begin to see an insanely large amount of these builds. Currently AR/Dev and Fire/Dev blasters (others are accused of being FotM, but these two are the most widley recognized)
Also, everyone seems to use Mez only against enemies. Mez generally means any form of Sleep/hold/stun. Something that prevents you (or an enemy) from moving, attacking, etc.
ok a few I know I use commonly that I didnts see
mob - mobile, in reference to something you can attack or
attack you (former EQ players use this)
and there was another one but of course Im at work and got interupted now I cant remember it lol
ok a few I know I use commonly that I didnts see
mob - mobile, in reference to something you can attack or
attack you (former EQ players use this) "Theres some
lvl 38 mobs over here"
char - character, I use this instead of toon "brb changing
chars"

Well I saw "toons" start cropping up early after the release of AC2 and was the most common term I saw when referring to characters... up to the day I left for CoH. No idea if it actually originated there though.
[/ QUOTE ]
The first place I saw it was a few years ago in a game called the Realm where the characters were actually cartoon-like. Also not sure where it truely originated but if I had to guess it would be the Realm.

My kids played Disney's Toontown Online for awhile, your character was a "toon" so naturally we referred to them as such!
Edit: Oh, and what does OP stand for. I've seen it crop op in forum posts lately and I can't figure it out! Please pm me with your response as I am not sure i'll remember to view this post again. Thanks!

Plasma_Fury,
You made a comment about updating this? Any idea when that's going to happen? It's a great guide, though you might move it to Excel to make alphabetizing it easier for you.

Troll is a person that goes onto the forums (generally) and picks fights just to sidetrack the thread and get their jollys off.
OP is the Original Poster, reffering to the person who wrote the first post in a thread.
Bampf or Bamf: Teleport. i.e. I just bampf'ed the minion over to us and the whole group agroed.

DB = Dark Blast
Pet Gaze or PG = Petrifying Gaze

Regen = regeneration secondary, or the rate at which your health returns.
As a side note:
Flamer (actually f-lamer) = Short for f**king lamer, someone who frequently picks arguments on a forum, creates upset, or insults those posting. A Flamer can usually be identified by the number of non-existent level 50 characters (toons) he possesses, the evident lack of knowledge of how things work in the end-game, and his supreme knowledge over something he has never done or tried before.
A flamer typically brings up parentage, makes a likeness to Hitler or Nazis, and insults the intellegence of those responding.
AT=Archetype (Blaster, Tanker, etc.)
zzz = shorthand for "I have been mezzed (held), so I can't do anything right now. Oh and if you are a Defender or Controller, please unmez me so I don't die and can contribute to the team again"
Hell = a blue cave mission in the Perez Park maze.
Main = alternate usage: Highest level character on an Account.
Farming = Running missions over and over without completing them in order to reap high amounts of XP in a short time.

Great Guide, allow me to add my 2 bits:
I see alot of people using HO, what does that mean?
WOOT:
Woot has many theories surrounding it. It may or may not mean "We Own the Other Team" but it is unlikely. It is definately older than Counter-Strike. It's mostly just an exclimation like HUZZAH!
BRB != BBL:
BRB = gone a few seconds to a minute or two
BBL = gone an extended period of time
Zerg = Rush:
In all my years of (starcraft/broodwar)ing I've never heard the term zerg used as a verb. You use the word rush. A rush is a zergling rush. They're the only unit you can rush with anyway, i've tried overlord rushes and it just doesn't have the same effect. A rush is a pre-emptive attack on a small group of enemies with a much larger number of, yet not necessarily stronger, units.
