Quote:I'd also like to say thank you to the current development and community teams, and to all the ones that came before I started whose names I only heard in passing. Without each and every one of you this game wouldn't have been as enormously awesome as it has been. Yeah, even you Skippy Sidekick. No scratch that... that goes double for someone who's willing to let his official name be "Skippy Sidekick".
- Thank you for the countless hours of enjoyment beating up fearsome foes and giant monsters.
- Thank you for the countless hours of distraction from real life stuff that sucked monumentally.
- Thank you for having multiple varieties of giant robots. Those are always frickin' cool.
- Thank you for inspiring the players to make things as solid and cool as Mids, Vidiotmaps, and ParagonWiki (among others).
- Thank you for inspiring Steelclaw to make all those lists.
- Thank you for almost exclusively attracting the type of players that I'm more than happy to talk to and spend time around.
- Thank you for the players I've met here that I've since become good and lasting friends with.
- Thank you for a game where I could be around whole crowds of other people and still play on my own when I needed to.
- Thank you for not making me need hardcore skills to get ahead or have fun. Cause I don't have those. Seriously, not a one.
- Thank you for a game where a costume contest can be both a challenge and a joy.
- Thank you for inspiring me to actually post on forums. That was out of the question for me once upon a time; too shy.
- Thank you specifically to Avatea for my complete and utter inability to say "purple" anymore. I can now only pronounce it "puh-pull".
But most of all... and I mean this from the bottom of my heart... Thank you for letting me be a hero. Even if it was only for a while.
I wish all of you the best wherever you end up next. And if you do somehow let us know where that is, I'll be sure and check out those projects. Cause hey, it'll already have a big advantage by having one of you guys on it.
Stay safe out there, heroes! Hoorb!
*runs off to take screenshots of his base and all his costumes*
And thanks Trip, for being the best Woolworth's shopping pal there ever was. I'll see you online before The End, and see where else we want to wind up. Your pal - accelerator -
Remember when:
*You couldn't wait for the next week of your favourite tv show to come on (from Lost, to Batman, to everything in between)?
*Waiting a month - or even TWO months! - for your favourite comic book's next issue felt like YEARS?!
*City of Heroes was more than Incarnate Trails, and Death From Below?
*You played with a group of friends that you could count on seeing for sg night?
*Not every single issue involved tragedy, death, dismemberment, or betrayal?
Well, me too. I was away from CoH for about a year, after having been part of it since Beta testing in 2005. Upon my return, I found a very different city waiting for me - awesome new content, but what seemed like a first-person shooter on the Virtue server. Yes, teams still form, but they always seemed to be pick-up groups. Every once in awhile you'd see a glorious supergroup pod - Hero Dawn and The Paragonian Knights to name a couple - by for the most part, individuals.
I'm curious if there's anyone out there that feels like I do, that would like to chat about a once-a-week supergroup, with a toon they sit aside for that group, where we adventure all together, collect badges together, task force together, etc. We'd welcome people of all ages, and all walks of life. We'd role play and enjoy getting to hang out with each other, in the base and on the street.
Thanks for your time, and enjoy your day! -
Quote:While we have not met, I saw your post, and wanted to wish you peace and love today. May the best memories come to surround you today, and love and laughter come to those who are with you.November 25th, 6:50 pm my grandmother on my father's side passed away after a long and difficult battle with renal failure and severe diabetes. You guys were there for me when my grandfather (mother's side) passed away in June from similar circumstances, and I appreciate everyone who did know the situation beforehand offering their condolences. Guardian is like a second family to me, and I appreciate all you guys have done for me both in game and during tough situations in real life.
This is not a post to bring anyone's thanksgiving down, I hope everyone has the best thanksgiving possible, and cherish each and every loved one, no matter how mad you are or distant you may have become. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. -
Quote:Hello! It's been awhile since I've posted here, but this was just too interesting a topic not to respond to.This for the uber vets! I class these as players who have like a 48 month badge and higher!
for these uber vets, i have 3 question! what toons have you been playing for all this time? have you played one from when you started till now? whats your favourite build?
I have been on since Beta. I started on a Sunday; the game went live the following Tuesday. I took a month off in there somewhere to move, but vet badge month 66 arrives 12/11 for me, I'm told.
1. What toons have I been playing for all this time? I haven't. I have a linear approach to the game - once a toon hits 50, it 'wins', and it's time to try another toon. I have only recently discovered the joys of playing a toon at 50, even though it doesn't level anymore. However, I try to get a level 50 per year beginning in 2005, and so far, i'm 4 for 4 (2009 isn't over yet).
2. What toons have I played from when I started until now? Most of them. There was a blaster early on that i moved to the test server because her glass jaw was just too much to take, but otherwise, i don't know that i've deleted a toon higher than level 30. I usually know much sooner than that if it's gonna agitate me to keep playing it.
3. What's my favourite build: My 50's were, in order: Tank - inv/ss; Controller - mind/emp; Defender - rad/rad; Stalker - willpower/dual blades. My next will be a Scrapper who is now at 44 - dark/regen. Of those, it was the defender for many years. Even though his blasts were weakish, his ability to slow down and debuff everything in sight - and then hover and avoid all smashing damage - was, well, smashing! However, he was also on a tremendous sg, so there is some context there when i think of him. At heart, I love defenders. What I'd really love to see is some form of hybrid between an emp/rad or emp/storm defender; one that could heal in radius, heal at range, rez, and clear mind... AND slow, debuff, or earthquake/ice slick an area. Thermal seems closer, but the debuffs come very late in the game, and it doesn't have a defender's END discount.
Thanks for the interesting post! -

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that many skuls will be killed.
Oh, and that tankers will decide once against that they are unplayable after a small change that's not all that significant.
[/ QUOTE ]
Good thing that everyone who makes snarky comments on tankers has actually played one, or tried to level one, huh? Can you imagine the impression you'd give people if you hadn't yet? So easy to comment on the outside... so brave, so funny, and so heroic! -

Rage needs to have more drawbacks.
Right now it only has a cost to activate, a 25% end drain when it's over, a defense debuff when it's over, and 10 seconds where you can only use powers on yourself.
How about we make police drones aggro you when Rage crashes, or possibly just give a certain amount of debt per activation.
This power does the job of FIVE inspirations! With great power comes great responsibility.

In that case, I want a pony. A white shetland pony. With a big red bow and rainbow stickers on its heiny.
With great power comes great responsibility. With great responsibility comes great booze! -

Thank goodness for blasters who, um, uh, stand 100 yards away and run at the first sign of trouble... heroically running away, though
[/ QUOTE ] and remember the lesson from page 50 in this thread from Friggin_taser... pink text = just kidding, no matter how mean-spirited and unheroic it might be. Just put it in pink text and wrap yourself in the glorious scent and luxurious feel of the first amendment
On topic tho, there kinda isn't one anymore, is there? The rage change is live, it's there to deal with, and now that my tank is lvl 50, it's actually extraneous to continue. I invite people to join my sg and team with me because I like hangin out with them, not because of their archetype or damage mods at all, which I believe is the whole spirit of this game. Someone can be as powerful as they want - if they're mean, racist, or make it a point to get everyone killed because they personally don't care about debt, they're off the team. If it isn't fun in a $15.00 a month game, it's not worth doing for me. I'm so glad Detour hit 50, so I can say I climbed to the top of the mountain, did it the hard way, and won. -
Ok now THAT was funny. And the blaster on our sg doesn't do either - she flies. And now that she has SO's and accuracy, that girl packs a MEAN wallop!
We LOVE blasters... heroic ones. -

What did the five fingers say to the face?
SLAP!

Of course, since you're a tanker, that barely hurt. You could use Rage to maybe possibly leave a mark for a short amount of time, but in the 10-15 seconds you are standing there doing nothing tired, I can run away or send you and your teammates to the hospital.
OH NOEZ, STATESMAN BROKE TANKERZ!11111!!!!one!!!!
Pink text = just kidding!
...or am I? Perhaps something to think about next time you are stuck in the middle of your 10 seconds of downtime.

but hey, thanks for proving our point! What a powerful way to support our position!

You'll make a great addition to City of Villains. A hero would never have said that. Have a great day, won't you? -
Important again to point out:
1. Statesman has said, on more than on occasion, that he is a strong proponent of team play,
2. The Tank Archetype's role in team play is to a. stand the greatest chance of surviving the greatest amount of damage, and b. draw fire away from the team,
3. Rage 3.0 creates a 10-second window, during which a tanker is unable to do either of the above things for its team,
4. There are literally dozens of different ideas and suggestions for how Rage could fairly be done to support both solo and team play,
5. Rage 3.0 represents NONE of those suggestions,
6. No developer has commented in this thread since Statesman started the thread on January 14th.
It's just us players. Twisting in the wind. Do I like 3.0 more than 2.0? Answering that question is solving the wrong problem - it's like saying would I rather be stabbed or shot? I'd RATHER BE A TANK! -
I wish I'd had this before I hit 50 - this is a marvelous solution that is consistent with everything else, and encourages the thing that Stateman loves talking about - Team Play! I can't COUNT the number of times I've been asked what KIND of tanker I am, and then when I say "inv/ss" I'm either not responded to, or told 'sorry, looking for fire'. Detour solo'ed - SOLO'ED - for most of those 50 levels because of this. This suggestion was and is awesome.
-
The awful thing is that Monday will be a month since a developer has commented on it officially. And, to make matters worse, Detour hit 50 last night, and has moved on to a Warshade alt (Sundown). Now ask me if I'll ever build another Inv/SS tank: in fact, ask me if I'll ever build any kind of tank again...

Am I the only one who sees possible problems with the magnetism line of controllers?
There is ONE hero in all of comics that has claws similar to the claws set in CoH. Therefore there can arguably be a copyright violation there. I see the same problem with a magnetism set for conrollers. I mean... there are other options for controllers... nature control - make grass and what not entangle and ensnare your enemies. body control - specialize in posessing the bodies (but not the minds) of your enemies.... etc.
I guess I don't see a need to delve into the dangerous waters that are magneto.
Zeus - god of magnetism
[/ QUOTE ]
I see what you're saying but..... copyright on magnetism?... I don't know. There are characters in comics with ICE and FIRE powers too right?
Should be fine.
[/ QUOTE ]
Last time I checked, the principles of gravity, magnetism, fire, air, earth, water, sound, body, and mind were all still forces of nature. The issue really is more about the character created than the powers used. Marvel isn't suing because you lift heavy things - Marvel is suing because you lift heavy things in ripped purple pants, sporting green skin, built like a weightlifter on steroids, with a name above your toon like The Inflagible Hulck .
Magneto, Polaris, Magenta (teen titans guest star), Cosmic Boy (who, by the by, predates Magneto by FIVE YEARS!)... copying those characters are what could run you into trouble, not their abilities. -
The disorient feature was so annoying in Rage 1.0, and if I had unyielding, that would counteract it, but if I got hit by an attack that disoriented at the same time (nemesis tended to do this with alarming frequency), then my toggles dropped anyway... much like they do with Rage 2.0 with the END drain. BAD idea to roll it back completely - GOOD idea to have an answer other than 'lesser of two evils' for Invulnerable/Super Strength tanks...
-
And, as I'm thinking about it, an awful realization comes to mind: what if I go on respec mission #2 this weekend, respec into or out of something, then end up needing it again after Rage gets changed again... or something else around it gets changed!
*shudders* -
I truly do not believe that the devs set out to have the respec come BEFORE a change so drastic as what was done to rage. Because I don't believe any intent was there, I'm actually pretty calm about this one. I do, however, agree that, if I knew then what I know now, I would have respec'd at lvl 44 an entirely different epic power.
Detour's an Invulnerable/SuperStrength Tank, and fights Fake Nemesis a lot. When they decide to run, if it's at the same time that Rage drops, the disorient of it was countered by my Unyielding power, but one shot at the same time at range and I'm uberstunned. I bought Lazer Eyes from the energy pool to try to compensate, so at least I had a ranged power to hit back with. Now that Rage doesn't disorient anymore - a feature that ROCKS IT NICE - it makes having a ranged power superfluous. I'd have taken focused accuracy instead.
But, the respec came before the changes, and there we are, you see. I still have 2 respecs left, and will probably have to deal with it that way. I am optimistic though, that since Stateman and the devs are aware of the overcompensation done to Tanks here, that 'soonish' is a good sign.
The proof in the pudding for me - I still get asked to do AV stuff and herd every day, more than once. IN issue one, NO ONE wanted a tank, as the scrapper did its job better.
