1. Say...

Has anyone tried to export the forums to somewhere else? Maybe over to Titan?

Just curious... I'd love to see us keep these threads, ideas, and community intact as much as possible for as long as possible...
2. @TonyV, You've got 8 people here from Liberty and Protector that are willing to put money towards this goal every month. We can each give $20 a month indefinitely for this. It's not much, but that's the thing about snowflakes... each snowflake isn't much. It's when they get together that they're an unstoppable force of nature, an avalanche.

I've often pondered why this game is so good, and so important to me.
Is it the players? ...yes somewhat, but most of the people I play with I know outside this game and know and care for them.
Is it the Devs? ...Yes! Very much so. I've never ever played any game where the Devs are as responsive and kind, committed and considerate, creative and compassionate as this one. They make my day, so many days.

But mostly, you know what it is? I'm an American patriot living in a post-modern world where heroism is gauche, passion for a cause is passe, and apathy is ubiquitous.

In Paragon City... there are heroes, and I get to be one. I don't have to play it cool when I see something I don't like. I can jump in and make a difference. All of my 54 characters when playing and moving through the city and see some Hellion or Outcast jackwagon stealing some poor woman's purse will stop and pulverize the slackwit and send him to the Zig's infirmary with a love note attached, even if I'm a high-tier incarnate.

Why? Because I'm a hero in Paragon City.

I have an 8 year old little girl. This summer I signed her up with a freebie account, edited her chat channels (for the sake of her mental virginity), and commenced to play with her with my wife. Because she wants to be a hero, too. (She burst into tears when I gave her the news.)

Inside every person, there is a seed of nobility. We all long to be better than we are, in a world where people act out of altruism, rather than selfishness; a world where self-sacrifice is noble, not gullible.

Paragon City was that world for me for 8 years. If it is within my power, it will stay that way. If it is not within my power, I pray to God that He change it to be so.

So yes. I will try to be a hero one more time. @TonyV, consider me in your Supergroup for this fight. I will rise to the occasion. Tell me what I can do, for I am a Hero on the inside, and I will not stand idly by.

Hami Raid

All,

As an 8 year veteran, I've been with City of Heroes since just before Issue 1. I didn't pick it up at launch because I wanted to see it first.

I'm as sad as any of you are at the passing of our online home in Paragon City. I will always consider myself a citizen there.

So on that note, I want to set the WABAC machine to a time when Hami-raids were the big deal. Let's get together and on the Day The Servers Die, at High Noon Pacific time start killing the Hamidon.

When they pull the plug, let's all be able to say "I was there, doing what heroes do best, fighting the ultimate evil when they told me I couldn't be Super in Paragon any more."

Whattaya say gang?!?!? Who's WITH ME!?!?
4. *shudders* *holds churning stomach*

I come from old school as well. I still remember how TERRIBLE the original Hollows was. People would actually create characters called "Taxi-Bots" that would teleport people around that zone out of sheer compassion on the Liberty server. I had a high level FF teleporter that would offer free rides for an hour every Saturday, just because of how horrible that zone was.

9 out of 10 players would die multiple times on their way to the first door mission because the zone started at level 6ish, and the first door mission came at level 7 and was invariably in the middle of Grape 14's. Trolls and Pumicites and Pain, oh my!

I had several friends nearly quit the game because of the Horror of the Hollows.

You'd hit level 5-6 *DING!* great! I have access to a new pool power... nah, I need 1 more attack to round out my cycle... Oh, hello new contact...
What? What's that?
You won't talk to me until I go talk to this David Wincott? Okay... <chugging off to Hollows>
Hmm... this is neat, large police presence here... Hey! Look at all the people here at the entrance!
Lemme talk to David.
Okay, I clicked on him, skim-read his spiel.
Hey, I have a new mission objective... lemme try that.
Ow, that hurt, but I made it.
What's next?
Ow! That hurt MORE... but I'm game... I'll try this door mission, that will be better, no mobs of 7-12 badguys to beat me up!
<Death>

Wow! I die instantly before I get to the door. Why are all these guys purple and there are always 10 of them and they all have super speed and holds and hit me instantly every time with every shot?????

This game stinks! I quit!

... the Ballad of the Hollows.
The stupid thing, that still makes me nauseous is the fact that you as a "new player" didn't know that the mission from Wincott was optional!!! It LOOKED like it was the next line in the story arc.
People who didn't know any better would never realize that Kings Row was a much less frustrating alternative!

... I still get headaches thinking about it.
I do have nostalgia for some things in the game... Kraken hunting in Perez, the old sewer trials, crazy fun of your first task force, some of the upper teen, lower 20s story arcs... were AND ARE amazing.

... just not *gulp* the Hollows.

5. Yeah, well, MY dad can beat up YOUR dad!
6. I am a 7 year vet and a VIP player. I have purchased this game multiple times with pre-orders of Villains and Going Rogue. I've purchased most of the purchaseables in the game.

...

I will not buy a "grab bag" despite my ability to do so with my monthly points. This is insulting, and basically tells me that the crew assigned to create new content has now "jumped the shark."

Now available for purchase at the Paragon Super Store: Shark Jumps, for the low cost of your integrity + all available cash with in 10'.

/Meh.
7. Bump. Still looking for an answer.
8. I had that problem too. Put in a ROOM that would accept 2 generator types.

Know what the problem was?

The BASE PLOT. You have to change the base plot type to a SECURE plot type to support multiple generators. When you go into the base, click on "Upgrade Base Plot." You'll notice 2 tabs down at the bottom, one being a Secure plot. The standard base types only supported 1 power generator in my experience. Secure supports 2.

Hope this helps!
9. Here's a brain scratcher... I was monkeying around in the Character Creator the other day and connected a few dots and decided to ask about it.

Around about issue 17, the music in the Character Creator turned off. Then later, it came back. I thought something of it for a while, was puzzled, but decided to let it go.

Yesterday I got to thinking about it again and decided to ask "Whatever happened to the old villain music during character creation?"

It was a different piece than plays now, which is merely the main title music. The old one was significantly more dramatic, if quite a bit more intrusive. Yet, despite the intrusive nature of it, I *LIKED* it. It was good, powerful and VERY fitting.

Yes I know, dead horse to ask for it back, but I would kind of like to find out what the track was and hear it again somehow. I miss it.

Any ideas gang?

GM Issues?

Yeah, Japanese culture... what can ya say but o.O and LOL?
11. SunderX

GM Issues?

Yes, that's Midori Days. Sadly, that's the ONLY good action in the whole set. His "Demon Hand" that would let him hit like that got transformed and inhabited by a teen age girl. Silly Japanese romantic hijinx ensues....
But the punch is GOOD.
That's what I always imagined Super Strength to be like. I keep praying that someday the CoH/V/GR devs will upgrade the engine to make combat more dynamic and punching through walls, swatting foes with light posts, and slamming evil robots through the pavement into the sewers will be part of the game someday.

Maybe... who knows?
12. SunderX

GM Issues?

PM sent. Thank you very much Master-Blade.

GM Issues?

Sadly, it is a Senior GM. :-/

GM Issues?

All,

I've been playing this game for over 6 years now. I've had a great time and have nothing but good things to say about the game.

However, more than once now, I've had an issue where I've had to send a petition that has been routed to a particular GM. Whenever I've gotten to this GM, I've had issues with him that I will NOT go into here.

Does anyone know if there is someone I can contact requesting help with a specific GM in that I have issues when he works my tickets? Is there a place or a format for this kind of stuff?

I am NOT getting into details. This is private business, but I was hoping someone might be able to point out where I go in the fine print to find a person to PM, an email address to write to, or a phone number to call.

Thanks in advance.
15. Ah, never mind... on deeper investigation, something HAS changed. Trip Mine USED to take Targeted AoE damage sets... now it takes AoE... but only PBAoE.... so my set that I am CURRENTLY using in there won't fit any more...

The problem is that there is too much blood in my alcohol system. :P

Chalk this one up to "Derp!" folks... heh heh!
16. Invulnerability gives superior resistance to Smashing and Lethal, the most common damage types. It also offers a power called Invincibility which is a signature of the set. It buffs your defense for each foe in melee range, as well as taunting. In addition, for each foe in melee range, it buffs your accuracy.

Over all Invuln is a well rounded set, but somewhat weaker against some of the off damage types. It offers good resistances and a fairly high amount of defense. It's not a toggle-heavy set so it's also relatively endurance friendly.

Willpower is fairly unlike Invuln. Will excels at damage recovery, not mitigation. While it has some mitigatory powers, the main thing is that it allows one to recover well and keep on fighting. For long duration combats, Will is among the best in the game. Not only does it have good healing abilities, it also has powers that buff your endurance recovery. This makes it an exceptional counterpart to endurance heavy sets, like Broadsword, Axe, or Stone Melee.

One of the signature powers of this set is one called Rise to the Challenge. It provides a heal bonus for each foe in melee range, causing your regeneration rate to increase. It also has a taunt aura that works by debuffing the to-hit of those in range. With the debuff to hit and the buff to heal, it makes the set fairly "tanky," though perhaps not as much as some of the other sets out there. However, it doesn't need as much "you can't hurt me" as the theme of the set is "damage recovery."

Both are excellent sets and both are fun to play. Hopefully this gives you some ideas for the feel.
17. When I respec my Bots/Traps MM, Trip mine isn't accepting ANY sets.
18. Okay, I19, great, happy, excited... and so on. I've been working my way through all *koff* of my alts and get to one of my faves, saving the best for last. A level 50 Bots/Traps MM.

So I type /respec and go through the agonizing choices of where to slot this, how to steal from that, et cetera. And get through all my set IO's down to a few left when I notice something...

Trip Mine (which I use RELIGIOUSLY) doesn't take set IO's any more? Since when? Why? What the hell?

Can anyone either a) explain this, b) point me to a thread that explains this, or c) tell me that it's a bug and will be fixed within a matter of minutes (honestly? )

Thanks all.
19. @LaughingDan,

I'm not really looking for something for "kick/punch crap out of baddies" in a DPS sort of way. My mains are all scrappers and tankers. ;-)

What I'm looking for is a "non-super" blaster secondary that is an alternative to Devices. (I refuse to open the can of worms that is "What's up with Devices?")

A nerf of MA for blaster secondary would be totally fine. I just think that there are plenty of blastery types in comic book canon that shoot a mean weapon, then punch the snot out of anyone who gets that close.

And sorry, I have a hard time justifying using pistols when I can make a sword of ice out of thin air, encase my hands in raw energy, or summon rings of fire around my foes. LOL

Just think we should have a "non-super" secondary for those of us who want to play characters that can shoot a pistol, but wouldn't have a clue how to build an anti-gravity laser guidance system.
20. Hey gang. Forum lurker here. However, after due consideration, I think it should be mentioned (probably for the umpteenth time) that Blasters are begging for a knock off of the Martial Arts scrapper set as a blaster secondary. Some decent punches, good kicks, a stun or 3, a chance for knockdown or disorient on some attacks, and build up would be all it needed to make a viable set that would go well with the "non-super" powers, like Archery, Dual Pistols, or Assault Rifle.

Thoughts? Feedback? Constructive criticism?

I thought it would work well if for Damage Mitigation most of the attacks had a chance for knockdown or disorient, as well as the animations for something like that would be very nice to go with some of the really sweet power sets that are coming into the game.

Thanks in advance.

The longest TF hero-side?

Somebody's never tried the Dr. Quarterfield TF.

[/ QUOTE ]Wups! I stand corrected, yes, you are right. LOL I keep forgetting that one, because I've only gotten to run it ONCE. Granted, we did it in just about 6 hours...
22. Speaking as a resident hero player who has several characters with the TF Commander Accolade (and am working on that on ALL 34 alts)...

1) Positron's TF. Synapse's TF. Both have issues.
a) Positron's missions are mostly in Skyway.
b) Synapse's missions are mostly in Steel Canyon.
c) Positron is in Steel Canyon.
d) Synapse is in Skyway.
e) Positron's TF is designed for level 10-16 characters, BEFORE they have the option of travel powers.

Therefore one of these following would be good:
.) Swap Positron and Synapse's hangouts. Posi would be in Skyway, Synapse would be in Steel.
.) Swap the zones where the missions spawn.
.) Give temporary travel powers to all members of either TF that last until the TF is completed.

2) Positron's TF is the longest and hardest of all the Hero side TFs.
a) This is wrong because this is many people's first experience with a TF
b) If they have a bad, frustrating experience, the developers really cool stories that they worked so hard on will be completely ignored, until IF and/or WHEN the players get to 50, are bored, then simply do the missions just to get them over with and get the accolade.

C'mon guys, face it. The first mission in Posi is HARD. Imagine you're level 12, and someone says to you "Hey wanna join the Posi TF?"
You respond "What's a TF?"
Most likely response is "Really cool buncha missions where you get mondo XP, but it takes a while, like a bunch of hours. Cool?"
Not knowing what you're getting into, you accept, hang around for 10-30 minutes while the team assembles (assuming that you're not Joe Impatient). Boring!
Then you go into the first mission and are looking at Level 16 Abominations.
The first group wipes your team.
You laugh it off, wups, drew too much aggro, and try again
Wipe.
Wipe.
3 of 8 quit.
...
Tell me why you'd find this enjoyable again?

Then, if you get lucky enough to get through this monster, huge, as-bad-as-any-defeat-all mission, 1-2 hours later, that's just the FIRST MISSION.

As we all know the most dangerous and annoying villains at low level are Vahzilok. What's the second? Oh, yeah, Circle of Thorns. All those to-hit debuffs of the ghosts just suck because you only have DO's, *IF THAT*.
Oh, and since Stamina is only available at level 20, fighting wave after wave of Clockwork really SUCKS.

It's not that the TF is a bad one. The story is good, the enemies are cool. It's just that you're facing enemies that have things that are *Unable to be Countered by Players YET!!!*.

So there needs to be some kind of ability to down the difficulty or get temp powers or inspirations that boost your ability to survive against the enemies you're going to be facing.

I love the Posi TF... with people who are on their 3rd alt, and/or have a 50 already and know how the mechanics of the game work. Or with 3-4 people on Ventrillo and the right team makeup. More than 4 people sucks because of the spawn size, the number of bosses you face, et cetera.

Could there possibly be a difficulty slider available for ONLY Positron and Synapse TF's that allows you to set the difficulty to 1 or 2 levels BELOW heroic?

I have no idea what would work, just wanted to point out some of the issues I see, and see if we could brainstorm on a way to make players first and second (Hero side) TF's better.

It's really hard to get a new player to join up when you tell them "Hey wanna join this really cool team? You get a badge and great experience, but you're going to be locked in for 6+ hours, will die a lot, and probably not get to finish for the reward at the end. Doesn't that sound great???"

Any ideas on how to make that better?

Thanks in advance...

Oh, and HexGirl is Sexy!
23. Cricket, you ROCK!

I had struggled to work out a good attack sequence to keep up with the other scrappers, and now I'm there! WOOT! YEAH! <cheers>

Now, when can I get my claws scrapper off my alt server and onto my main server?

I'll wait patiently... but at the rate we're going, said scrapper will be 50 before the change.
24. Well, with Perma-hasten in the mix (for example for a Claws/SR scrapper going for Perma-Elude) or Quickness, the recharge reductions are NOT necessary.

I'd be curious to see what the calculations are for Follow-Up when slotted with 2 Acc, 2 To-Hit-Buff, and 2 Damage.

I bet it would come out quite well.

Does Gnarly's SoD 3.0 make the chorded movements work?
