funny thing too, a choice between fighting warrior bosses or freaks, id always go for freaks. warrior bosses do obscene damage.

Quote:agreed entirely, and i can be snarky, so i always apologise when i dissappoint my legions of fansYou were not the person to whom I was responding, but nonetheless some actual polite, calmly-stated conversation is always welcome.
I am waiting with interest to see what happens with Going Rogue. I have very high expectations and will they be borne out? We shall see.... but it is time for some content, and quite a bit of it, with teeth. Make me proud, devs -
I DO have to address this though. color customization(and animation customization, people keep ignoring this, and it is quite a big thing really, something the new kid cant do to the level coh can) are more to me than just aesthetic options. They are a sign to me that the game that is admittedly aged at this point still has the capacity to grow significantly and that the developers have the resources and skill to cause that growth. To me thats a great deal bigger than letting rian finally punch, and giving violet better looking thorns. If anything the willingness to invest the resources shows quite the opposite of a dying game, if the game were dying, they would just focus on tossing us more low hanging fruit each issue to keep us placated, a game that is sticking around for a while is one that reinvests in growth, so i am afraid that you and i make a significantly different read on the issue.

Quote:well, i will sadly have to dissapoint you on the snark, as im feeling quite chipper today, but do you consider going rogue an issue? If so, then i would be forced to assume that our next "issue" will be where a lot of the mission creation resources seem to have been focused, and I am expecting quite a lot , both in terms of missions and costumes, at least in line with cov. If its is less than i will outcomplain pretty much anyone, but i suspect i wont be.Me, I'm a tough audience and I'm letting this issue pass with little comment, but if we do not see significant content in the next issue or two, and by that I mean content with actual meat on its bones for those among us with higher standards [do pardon the pun].... that won't be looking good for the longevity of the game.

EH, i am always hesitant to tell people that they are using something wrong if it isn't outright harming me. I joke a lot about the colors i use on my characters, and have made some outlandish ones, no question, but in general i try to keep things coherent, but that is my enjoyment, you know. If someone wants to make all their controls bright because they love bright colors, its really not my place to say wether or not they have justified it enough. people wear skintight spandex and yet are invulnerable, and their bio never explains why the bullets dont tear them to ribbons, They pick swords that dont really make sense with the timeframes of their costumes(a knight with a riktisaber, for instance) I mean if something were to be so egregiously bad that it offended my eyes, id politely leave, because I would acknowledge that the issue lies with my aesthetic sensibilities, and its best to find more agreeable compatriots. PC Has increased the game tenfold in my eyes, and i want to see people using it to the fullest of their expression.

When i can find them, the experience is singularly enjoyable. Luckily they actually broadcast for teams, so its easier to find and mentor them. Just be aware not to push them too hard, they want to have fun, not take a calc course, go over the fun stuff and drop hints here and there, but no standing for 30 mins while you explain io set bonuses. Luckily coh is fairly simple, and the basics convey quickly

Quote:yeah, thats why i added the not sure why now bit...and don't call me shirlyBut surely under the old system they would have lost more powers but were happy to team, how odd.
sometimes you just get a crop of twits, i have been fortunate in this regard(or possibly the twit in question, though not in this way.) but pk may have just had a bad run of teammates.
like i said, i love exemping my 50's though. that many slots running really low content where the difficulty is set for someone with basic slots=steamrolling. -
hmm, while i love pugging at any level, particularly with new players, i can see a reson for the access to powers thing. they are used to a playstyle with certain powers (stamina comes to mind instantly) and dont want to go back. Now with endreds thats not an issue with me, plus at lower levels the extra slots tend to allow me to go through the enemies like a wood-chipper through chipmunks, but i noticed some of people wont slot them post stamina. as for why now, no idea, bad luck on your part?

Well after gr, i am kind of hoping we start seeing some wok on the coming storm and pvp revamp that was begun a while ago. GR has likely used a lot of resources, and it will be interesting to see how they get reallocated post launch.

Quote:not at all, blended fighting styles have been asked for since one of the heroes introduced in the korean coh launch used a pistol and katana together. plus, due to the popularity of movies like the matirx and equilibrium, the martial artist who uses firearms and unarmed strikes together is one in the public mind, and lets not even get into anime gun/fighters. the general suggestion is usually taking some martial arts and some utility powers and making a secondary for blasters, expect to see more of that when dual pistols come with going rogue. There is also a smaller group who want a martial arts/gun mix for a dom assault set for natural doms. frankly im all for martial arts for anything(because it ups the chance of babs making more anims for itSo, my idea isn't far fetched? I was afraid for a second there. I just think it would make the game look better with some other proliferations. My custom critters don't look bad when I give them katana MA. Or pistols MA.
) so yeah, sure, tanks and brutes too.

Quote:I have got to say, I agree that the issue definitely is a draw to older players, but i find some of your conclusions odd, or at least born of strange expectations. This issue addressed something we have been asking for since issue 1, and was at one time suggested would be in issue 3, so as a longtime player, yeah, i can understand where you are going with that, but im not sure what you expected would bring in new players that was overlooked. A new player would have quite a lot of existing content to go through, and outside of the low level hero stuff, most of it is quite good. If anything repetitious content is more the complaint of long time players who complain that the game is repetitive, and im not sure how tossing a few new arcs out there is going to solve that.I16 was an issue made to appeal to existing players not to leave, but not really to attract new players. This is simply because the proportion of players who quit CoH/V because they couldn't be the Emerald Crystal is exceedingly low, while those who quit for reasons of repetitious content is quite high. Watching Dark_Respite's I16 video confirmed this to me - a lot of features only matter to existing players, where it is new players that CoH/V needs.
It's an issue that took a lot of work to get done, but as a customer I reserve the right to be completely unimpressed by the end result.
You do recall that after issue 10 came out, and that was one of the better story moving issues released, there were complaints that people had gone through all the content in a night, and now there was nothing to do. the fact that mmos cannot crank out distinct content as fast as players can consume it is just a fact of life. ma was an attempt at fixing that, and as someone who just plays the ones that look like they have good stories, it was mostly successful. Yes some people exploited the skewable rewards and steps were and continue to be implemented to curb that, but if you arent looking very hard to be offended or to pretend to be oppressed, there is good, clever content on there. but that is all secondary to the other reason people who say the game is repetitive leave, and thats because there are only so many ways to work with the existing tools to make missions, ma has helped show that, and while some clever sorts have found ways of doing clever things with it, there are a limited number of ways to tell a story and set quest objectives, coh is far from alone in this regard, it is kind of the curse of the mmo industry, but for some the instancing makes it feel more apparent..and im not sure something ever can fix that, its either a like it or dont thing, what did you expect them to add that would address that?
In my view i16 showed something very important, that the game which was regarded by many within the community and outside of it as aging and stuck in its limitations had the resources to go in, fix up the code and improve to the point that it took a competing game's(or as some wags had taken to calling it, coh2...feh) bullet point of customizable powers and did a better version of it (more color options, changeable melee animations, colors tied to costumes).
for me, and hopefully for interested onlookers that showed that coh is still a growing and vibrant franchise that has the resources to make fundamental changes to its structure to accommodate the playerbase, rather than a game content to rest on its hardcore base and slowly slide into oblivion while newer games steal its thunder. My admittedly silly analogy is that coh is now the 40 year old cougar that hit the gym and looks better in tight jeans and a low-cut shirt than its 18 year old college girl competitor, and thats what it needs to be. -
had limited time, but since power customization, and more importantly animation customization, was number 1 on my wanted list, i think we know where i'm going to stand here. I did get to pull on some guys for badges, the cascade of badges is nice, I am glad they lowered the disparity between the hero slayer badge and the hero equivalent, and the illusionist badge now taking the other summons will speed things along nicely, i did not enjoy getting that badge the old way, but the archmagus accolade was too thematically important, glad nobody will go through that again. I am thrilled that my main brute who is a lightning secondary can now have a self heal, didnt want to sacrifice powers to get aid self. I was happy that they added that new dark cone attack for the scrapper epic set, it looked a bit more "dragony" than dark blast, and worked well with rian(was kind of hoping maybe pyre mastery would have fire breath, but no biggie there) so that respec got called upon. Honestly, on this pass, the new martial arts anims didnt particularly thrill me, they were the street fighting animations, and im fine with that, because that did address a need players felt. hopefully the next pass is not far off and adds more of a chinese kung-fu feel, or get me some more crisp kick animations for a Korean martial arts feel, but since the tech is in place, i feel far better.
Overall, while i do hope we start seeing some more story content soon, this was a very important issue for me, maybe the most. it significantly changed a number of my characters for the better, both in their thematic feel and their actual gameplay, so i do feel invigorated, moreso than i have for a very long time. And it proved that a 5 year old game still has the development team skill and willingness to expand in meaningful ways in the face of fresh competition, in many ways surpassing them in the area of power customization. In my opinion, this was exactly what this game needed at this time. now bring on going rogue i guess. I am hoping that that is where all the story and costume work has been going and that it will kick me on my butt again. -
my name here is based on my first character made in coh, and still the most "me" of my characters rian frostdrake. The first name, which many people mistake for rain is actually an alternate spelling of my first name, Ryan, that a friend of mine from high school had for a first name. as for the last name my first main online character was a HUcast on phantasy star online named frostwolf. basically he was a big, honkin robot(blue, of course) who hit hard and could absorb punishment, since then, i used the name for several online characters in different games.. since rian was a dragon, i decided to alter it slightly to call him a drake(in the D&D terms, a small dragon, not a male duck
) and poof, there it is.

that is unfortunate, i hope for his and 8's quick recovery.
EDIT and dark too, didnt see that. -
Quote:as someone who wouldnt mind making a stoner but hated granite covering up my character, i'd be down for it.For those of you with Stone Armor characters, how attached are you to the current appearance of "Granite Armor"? There are a number of issues with Granite Armor that could be elegantly solved by changing the VFX of the power into something more akin to the other armor toggles in the set. IE, your player model and costume wouldn't go away, there would just be a new set of 'Granite' armor pieces overlaid.
I haven't made any decision to do this, it's just one of the options for dealing with the multiple issues we have with Granite Armor and I wanted to get a sense of how many of you guys wouldn't be able to adapt to a change like this.
Before anyone asks, no...we couldn't have it both ways. -
well, lets put it this way. the initial power customization pass was done on the prims and secondaries. hopefully if time and engine permit, babs may be able to add superficial changes to the existing travel powers so that we can have a few more thematic options. I wouldnt hold my breath, but i wouldnt say it was impossible either.

thats a bit extreme, outside of some the comics states is rarely protrayed as a tyrant(and a great deal of the comics portrayal may be linked to personal hang ups of the authors. small wonder that hickman's smoke and mirrors story was so popular with the fans, it wasn't written by a brooding adolescent with authority issues), and recluse is more of a violent social darwinist free for all where he can barely keep his subordinates from killing one another to the point of exhausting his troops. really, its only personal freedom for the strongest few, everyone else is boned, and in the case of weston phipps, any hope is actively suppressed.
-
as an aside, did you play a dominator or a stalker? you will notice both play differently. stalkers do more damage now with their secondaries, though they no longer do extra damage in domintion(still get the end bar fillup and extra magnitude) and stalkers are jsut plain better now. if you played either of them, expect a treat.

where? where?
anyhow, yes, invasion code for those events should definitely be the standard. i agree entirely with it, more events would , in my opinion, make the game feel more "heroic" and redside should have targets of opportunity that would also be raid-coded. -
I'd finally be able to finish oblivion, mayeb finally get dosbox up and runing and try arena and daggerfall, bethesda gave them both away for their tes anniversaries, and i have them on my hd, but havent gotten around to it. Most likely i'd play champions. maybe id finally finish Aquaria(2d indie metroid/ecco hybrid, AMAZING game), its an amazing game and have been kind of slacking on finishing it.

it takes more to break-in some pairs of pants, ya know?
alternate joke: having barely survived her ordeal, Wonder girl decided she must warn the scientists of the dangers inherent in their jeans-splicing experiments.
alternate corny joke: Wow, she really beat the pants off that hellion.
alternate me-being-a-dork joke:sister sledge, no!!!! we were family!!! -
