Quote:Hey dude you made lemonade out of lemons and you have a a good attitude about it which makes you 1000x better man about it.Yes, plainguy, I actually did read your post, but didnt put it together that that was YOU. Thats a great post.
Yes, this was a case of following blindly, something I havent done in 7 years of this game, and Im not sure why I did it now except that I was curious. To see an actual blaster / farmer seems very awesome.
All this talk about farming, I want to say this....I have not been into that aspect of the game in my 7 years, until recently. I do have a TW/FA brute that is a very successful farmer; "Gunmages" build...at least with ME running it...doesnt come close to my brute...not close at all. So the question becomes...whats the point? The point for me was, I thought this build would totally rock, maybe have some incredible DPS because it IS a blaster, but its much harder work and so dependant on , well, venge for one thing.
But I enjoy the second build I made yesterday, fully IO'd but at a fraction of the cost. I may try "Gunmages" build in a farm again when its fully incarnated.
You get a thumbs up from me. -
Did you by chance read my post's in that thread ?
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...7&postcount=21
The player in question might have been using a specific farm as another poster did mention hover and limited range attacks. But regardless you MUST have another dead player with you at all times for vengeance bait. Its pretty much vengeance and DP the group for the regeneration and recovery bonus and fire off your AOE attacks. Rinse and repeat. Of course having 2 others for bait might be better as hopefully you will have one dead at any time. Having to use Vengeance when the player isn't dead can be an issue. Or create some sort of sword AE ambush farm.
That is the problem with these one trick ponies.
This is why you need to learn the game mechanics so you can understand what your getting into. Otherwise someone says its good and everyone just follows blindly.. -
The only thing I could think of also was get range capped and use provoke and add in the pet unique IOs. My only issues is with Maneuvers and the Unique IOs your talking 14% Defense and 20% resistance. I do not know if your pets come with some inherit numbers like Demons do, I don't think so though.
I did a quick run at it just trying to get range cap. This is what I came up with. You will need Cardiac Incarnate and even with that I think you will have issues. I think you might have to lower your range defenses to the mid 30s and rely on purple inspirations to get you Range cap.
My thoughts are drop poison trap in front of you, Eat a purple, Provoke mobs, Use the life drain to heal yourself of incoming damage. Then when mobs come in hover out of melee range spraying your cones and healing the pets as needed. Oppressive Gloom does have a range, though short and it will help with the soft crowd control. Though of course that is a toss up. You might want to go Smash Lethal with Scorpion Shield and pick up the AOE mace hold as well. Swap out Hover for Combat Jump, less endurance and a bit more mobility running around.
OKAY SCRAP ALL THAT STUFF
I decided to show you how my mind works when I am posting and thinking about this stuff. You start thinking about one idea. You make the build and then you see how crappy it ends up being. Then another idea pops into your head and you go another direction. This is what all this build making is about. Not just sticking with one idea, but instead moving around ideas and compromising to make a build.
You cannot, cannot, cannot make a build based on theme or concept in this game unless you just happen to want to be a Archer that shoots trick arrows or a knight with a sword and shield. Other then that type of stuff your gonna have to mix and match powers even if they do look odd. And I will admit that having a undead mastermind firing off a web hold from a mace is bit off kilt. What I am hoping is one day they will make alternate looks for all these powers that will allow for players to keep within their themes or concepts. But for now to make a kick *** toon this is what we are stuck with.
Nonetheless once I mentioned Scorpion Shield I came across with another idea. I think its decent. I think it needs a bit more tweaking, but this is my idea for you.
What this build offers you is, almost all your defenses are in the 30s which is not bad. This means that one or two purple inspiration will cap you out completely across the board.
The one issue again was endurance. I started respecing many of the powers that I could with set bonuses that would offer you some endurance. The next thing I noticed was if you just toggled off Tough it gave you some better numbers endurance wise. You loose some resistance but its up to you what you think is important.
As for now what I would do is redo my build and look to see what powers you could get at your level or up coming levels that would help you get your defense numbers. At level 30 you don't need defense cap. The game is just set up that way. You could have defenses in the 20s and still feel like your capped at those levels.
I would then consider slotting some lower end IOs to get those numbers.
With more tweaking I will probably try something like this out myself. I was also thinking Teleport or maybe spring attack to start the fight.

I will preface this post with the comment I am not attacking you..
Supermax with all politeness and respect your post pretty much reflects the same amount of interest you had with this build since 2005.
Your first post give no idea of what your build is but you talk about incarnates asking what might be good. The only thing we know is your gonna use SOs and maybe HOs.
When your told a build might be helpful. So you post a semi complete build and you just seem a bit too lazy to list the last 3 power in your Mids build so you type out what they are instead.
Then someone says your build is borked so instead of reposting what the build should be you sort of continue on about the incarnate stuff and describing when the endurance issues are.
Look this isn't work and it shouldn't be work. But if your gonna take the time to post and ask for help you honestly need to make a good faith effort to do your part.
But at the end of the day if you really don't know then just go Cardiac its the best thing for endurance issue builds. Yes other Alpha incarnates will afford you better things in certain areas, but if you have no endurance it really is a moot point.
And since its obvious you not familiar yourself on how to determine this we are sort of at a stand still.
What I can tell you the standard for minimal endurance recovery is usually 2 to 1. Basically when your subtracting endurance use from endurance recovery, you should have 2 points left over. Anything else will cause you issues. I had a blaster with 1.86 and I needed Cardiac. I even pick up Musculature later thinking it might be just as good but I get extra dps and it just was not, so I went back to Cardiac.
Other then that post a real build and lets see what can be done to fix your issues. Because next week someone will come asking the same question. At least we have something to point them at. -
Quote:LOL I see what you did...I agreed they have some laziness at times when it come to new contend.
Like for example Cimerona Zone.
They creat the Mignigth Club And Cimerona zone Only to host ONE!!1 Task Force!
What a waste of a zone.
But your comparing a enter ZONE to 1 single model.
Your analogy is off and does not equate.
Your trying to equate a zone full of new and unique npc to the game. Also at that time the ITF was also a very difficult trial when it came out lasting 2 hours or more, I recall people bragging when they broke the 1 hour 30 minute mark. But your comparing that to a wolf model being possibly ( its not live yet ) used in 2 different power sets in 2 different ATs.
If anything your comment proves my point even more.
And before anyone says it I had the same issues with Traps.
@Gayla,
I hear ya.. If they are that BUSY then why waste the time making any new model. We can run around with this idea all day.
My only issue with this is Wolf or Dire Wolf does fit Beast Mastery. But for Dark Control it could have been anything. It could have been the Dark Servant pet.
Again I will admit we are debating to debate and nothing is live yet.. -
I will agree I find it a bit odd, even a bit thematically off when this Incarnate judgement power does so much more then this so called Nuke but the weaker Nuke is the power that drains you.
Yes we can pretend that the power is being drain from someplace else when you use your Judgement, but it still coming from your endurance nonetheless.
Unfortunately this is moment where they put the horse before the cart. When the Nuke was out they never thought of Incarnates. They just didn't think that far ahead. And thought they made some good updates and fixes, they really didn't take the bull by the horns when looking to update certain power sets or Archtypes. It feels almost as if they just couldn't or didn't know how until new people came in and started getting a grasp of the game engine when others have left. So by the time these new devs are up to speed they are trying to catch up with stuff that are several years old issue wise. So some stuff just gets left behind because they just can't cover it all.
You can clearly see from the new power sets compared to the old power sets how well developed the new sets are and how much more modifications are available for these new sets.
I think an excellent example is Kheldian and VEATs. The SOA alone has 3 leveling modes in which all 3 are excellent and have some massive capabilities for leveling and end game scenarios. Where as Khelds just had so many issues on how IOs worked or should say didn't work in different forms.
Today with the advent of the market if possible I see no reason why they could not just add alternate power choices for these Nukes in question. This way both sides of the fence are satisfied. Increase the DPS for Nukes that crash you and make a crashless nuke choice for those that do not to crash their endurance bar.
Personally the cost of dying after using a Nuke, ressing back up assuming you have a personal ress or inspiratoin, turning on all your toggles again and eating 1 blue and 1 green inspiration to get back in the game lowers my overall dps compared to the other blaster that does less dps over all but keep on pumping while I am trying to recover. Again this is assuming you can get back up. If you need to wait or run back from the hospital your dps is really going down the tubes compared to that other blaster.
I can't describe how many times over the 6 years I have seen specifically Energy Blasters run into a group fire off Nova Blast just to have 2 or 3 mobs still alive to face plant the offending blaster.
But honestly I think the market is the answer to this issue and it keeps the peace on both sides of this fence. -
I could type out a long winded story about respecing or creating new a build. But I think anyone who has more then 2 toons and / or has done a few respecs of their toons knows what I am about to discuss.
There just has to be a better way when a player has 20+ toons to look through all this stuff to see if you have the IOs and salvage you need.
When you come to think about it, the initial creation or the respec of a build should not be the game. It should not waste hours of your time looking through toons and moving stuff around. The game should be about playing and not house keeping.
Now I will say Mia culpa for my part in all of this. But without a doubt the devs also have a hand in this mess as well.
Again the build or respec should not feel like the chore it does now.
With the intro of the market I can honestly say I would pay to have the ability to organize and access my IOs and salvage across my all my toons either per server or per side. Just anything would be better then what is in place now. -
I would like a swamp rat and 3 legged possum for a shoulder pet or on a leash that I can drag around.

Quote:Why not pick up barrier and just cap them out ?I was thinking of shooting for one of the healing pets to heal spiderlings... good idea? If so, which do you all recommend? There's so many that it's hard to boil it down to just one without prior experience.
edit: in particular, I was wondering if the pets w/ an AoE heal used it well or not.
Not knowing your build or your game play setting it would be sort of hard to give you a real answer.
Whats your build ?
What difficult level do you normally play on solo ?
Are your pets Perma ?
What other Incarnates do you have atm ?
What are you Defenses like ?
As an example I have a huntsman which is range capped. I have the 2 pet sets which are perma and I have barrier which might be redundant for me but it does cap me out and maxes out my resistances as well. I am fighting Malta on a 4/8 with Barrier and my pets. That being said I went with the Spider incarnate and bane for theme / looks.
If I was not perma pets I would have went with a heal and some sort of flying buffing or healing pet. But not for my pets, I could careless about them. I want to survive. -
Quote:You think in 4 years they could have thought up 2 different models ? I mean really ? It's Dark Control they could have added any model of any creature. They could have added in a Natterling or Bull Natterling and colored him black with red crystals. Or used one of the new models from Dark Astoria zone. For real!!!!
They made a set that we ask for 4 year or more and you are already complaining because another set have a singel copy power??
Sorry to me it just smells of laziness. -

Quote:Who in the world wipes at ITF or has issue with any of the respec waves now a days. Especially the respec waves that are so far apart from each other. I just did a respec today ( its the weekly ) 6 players where in SOs. The waves were so far apart we started pulling the mobs from the hallway into the reactor just to do something.Originally Posted by BenchpresserAs for the changes? Yes- my first thoughts were as Hawk pointed out, denial of doorways etc. To use my previous example, an ITF. The First mission, the ambushes at the Oracle come primarily from one direction.. they can now be stopped to allow the team to try and complete the mission without getting wiped. Same goes for the Clyclops/Minotaur ambushes in the 2nd mission. Anothere idea I had was the Hero Respecs.. Dropping DS Right AT the reactor for the last few waves...
I get what your trying to say but I think your reaching to make a point on how good this is.
Again I never wished for a phase shift power ever in this game and I have pugged in this game for 6 years. I know and understand I do not have to pick the power or the set. I am just commenting nonetheless.
Its a change but its not better, just less sucky.. -
LOL this is what kills me with them. The lack of imagination. They get an idea and they want to run it into the ground ASAP. I can only imagine that they will be the same model just different colors.
-
I went with a Range Cap Hover Blaster build for you, just to give you an idea in either direction. The last power is your choice. You could go Scorpion shield and then eat 2 purples and fight in melee range. Or go with a resistance shield.

Hes probably a young fella that just doesn't know better
-
Quote:I get what your saying but unless it is written in the players bio you don't get that idea by looking at the toon itself. Not necessarily.
You could be your basic mercenary/military type.
Or you could be.....
.....a mutant with the ability to create a tiny pocket dimension to store your equipment in. When it's out of ammo you put it back and pull out a different one.
.....a mage who has an enchanted assault rifle.
.....a being created entirely of nanomachines who can create extensions of their body in any form they desire (who happens to choose as assault rifle)
etc.
Just because you use an assault rifle doesn't mean your origin is set in stone anymore than it does for any other set.
I have a AR Traps toon with a bio related to be experimented on by Neutron in Pretoria. His costumes are related to different versions of him leveling up and during different times in his so called life.
A player looked at my costume and said "Cool 5th Column steam punk" without reading the bio. Then after reading the bio he thought he should tell me I should switch up the story to fit the costume.
Though on the other hand AR does have access to that carnival of light gun with the magic crystal on it. If they could change the effects coming out of the gun it would fit a bit more though with the magic idea.
If they alternate effects for Traps lets say that were arcane. Example would be Acid Mortar in the guise of Improved Snow Crystal
Link: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/File:Imp...ow_crystal.jpg
That would be cool and add to what your discussing about magic weapons. -
Don't go ranged defense because many of Ice powers are PBAOE. Your best bet is to go S/L Defense cap via Scorpion Shield.
This is a QUICK BUILD I tossed together to give you an idea.
It doesn't break any rules though it could be slightly expensive. You can probably obtain S/L another way, but I went easiest way without purples.

Quote:Are you running the farm solo ?"Gunmage" is supposed to be an epic DP/MM farmer...and Im sure he is....posted his build and mids here:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=268020
The build cost about 25 billion. I was really interested in it, so I worked hard for a long time and copied it.
What a major disappointment. I dont last 60 seconds in an S/L farm. Im sure there is nothing wrong with the build. So my question is, if there are any other DP/MM farmers here...
What is your attack chain?
What are the tips that make this work? -
First off, sorry about the confusion with Typed and Positional. I meant to say Positional is what you want.
Here is a build I drummed up. It might not be the best, to be honest I'm a bit under the weather and its shortening my attention span so I not on point atm.
Now you have 2 choices with this build. You could go as its posted and then pick up Agility incarnate to boost up your melee defense your short on.
-OR-
Six slot your Tier 2 with Sovereign Right and move the Sovereign Right Proc from Hell on Earth over to another slot in oppressive Gloom for more endurance then pick up Musculature Alpha.
As much as I like the extra resistance numbers and heals I would probably go with the 2nd choice because of Musculature for the extra dps.

Regarding your defense questions.
Positional Defense beats out Typed Defense so if your capped in Ranged, AOE and Melee its a moot point what your numbers are in energy or S / L.
You would rather be capped for Typed because Typed Defense is like one stop shopping. It protects you regardless of the incoming damage that is coming in against you.
As I mentioned previously, I think you can be defense capped and still double slot for resistance and heal on your Tier 2 pet for optimal resistance and heal numbers.
The whole scam behind a Traps mastermind is creating enough aggro to have the bad guys look at you while your pets kick their butts.
Oppressive Gloom is just great at stunning all the regular mobs. Getting the hit point damage is not an issue because it is divided among your pets and your regeneration will more then cover these issues. With all your pets out and running into a group of mobs with O.G. running your getting 1 point of damage per tick. As a comparison I have a semi petless mastermind DS Traps as well with only 1 pet and I have Oppressive Gloom running on him with zero issues. Which is defense capped and can handle 4/8 setting ( with incarnate assistance ), 2x8 without incarnates.
So you need to decide if you want to be a tankermind or some different personal build. Either choice is okay, but if your not defense capped and use provoke it can spell instant death for you. I tried my Robot FF Mastermind leveling up before I was capped and it was harsh sometimes when I forgot to eat some purples before using the power.
Again for all the powers in this game when your looking to min and max with any AT you are really relegated to particular powers and must haves.
Personally I think you need Hasten. Traps is very recharge friendly and having out double triage and Acid Mortar is very helpful and actually noticeable.
When I look at the build in mids I can comment a bit more.
If your looking for concept builds then disregard anything I'm saying. I'm looking to max out your toon to handle 4x8. If your just looking to roll on a 0/1 setting or 1/1 then you don't need anything or IOs, SOs are fine. I ran my DS Traps in SOs during incarnate trials with no issues because there are enough incarnate people to cover up my short comings. -
The one big problem I do see with all these Alternate animation ideas is this game engine I guess. What I am trying to get across with this comment is basically another MMO which will not be mentioned seems to say hey we are putting in retro space costumes, here are some images and then 1 week later they are in. Where as here they show you some concepts of costumes they want to put in on the market but it takes MONTHS to see it go live. Similarly this other game tosses out weapon packs like they are going out of style. Here you have to beg to get Gun Drone to be summoned while in the air and are still waiting around for things players have been asking cosmetically for years..
I don't honestly know if it is the game engine but I would like to believe it is and not the devs. -
I hate reading threads like this.
When I came back I had my base filled with salvage but from old storage bins which held much more. I spent one night just converting them. I spent HOURS just converting.
Then I read this and want to kick myself in the head now. If I sold this stuff for half the price of 100 million I would have probably had billions, upon billions.
This is my luck. I'm the guy who picks up a lottery ticket just before or after the winning ticket is sold. -
Just make alternate animations for things.
Have powers originate from a wand ( black wand ) or Staff. The have different wands and staves players can get.
Of course this all seems something that could be added to the market.
For powers like Devices and traps make arcane type devices. Instead of Trip mine you have Arcane Glyph of exploding. Yet again not that far fetched since they have Arcane and Tech devices for Bases. -
Quote:I'm a bit confused with this. Dimension Shift currently is a 30 second duration and the intent is to make a 20 second toggle giving the player a bit more control over the duration.Hey all,
Dimension Shift:- This power is now a Targeted AoE toggle. It will phase and immobilize everything within its sphere of influence, and can be sustained for up to 20 seconds. Enemies who move into the radius after the effect has begun become immobilized and phased. If the power is toggled off before its maximum duration, affected targets become un-phased shortly thereafter, allowing players to functionally control the duration of the phasing.
The problem as I see it is not the duration. It's the fact that you have phased mobs in a game that just sadly does not need phased mobs.
I might understand the use of the phasing in a SF like Barracuda at the end when you get wave after wave of 5th Column that some teams can't handle. But beyond that I just don't see someone having to phase mobs for 20 seconds in a group setting. Again its a great "Oh this don't look good" let me hit D.S., but on a regular game play I think this power will be of very limited use like Force Bubble.
Again I just don't know, I' m not feeling this. I just never thought to myself man I wish someone would phase shift these mobs. AOE HOLD yes.. Phase shift no..
I think this is just a band aid to a bigger problem. I believe the Devs have to realize that this game today is beyond phase shift. You have placed in too many powers that can kill mobs way to fast that you would need to consider or worry about phase shifting mobs. I honestly cannot think of a SF or TF at level 50 that less then 4 players is NOT incarnate shifted and has a Judgement power. Level 1 to 49 a team might and I mean, barely might need phase shifting powers. But being on the low end of the gaming totem pole and being a PuG player for 6 years, I just never had an issue on a PuG that I thought Dimension Shift would have helped fix.
I would rather see some sort of Telekinesis type hold / slow that cost more endurance for each mobs that comes into the field. Have something that is so massive but its the only thing the player could do if he wanted. Something that other players would go holy cow he can hold 30 mobs but cannot fight without killing his endurance.
Description: Player can manipulate the gravitational field around an enemy causing him to be attracted to the earth itself. Those not held will be slowed to a crawl with a chance to be held. Those slowed get debuffed. -
Blasters can't have Shadow Meld.
Patrons can be very dependent on your build. There are some builds I could not create without the use of Patron Powers.
The majority of people that go Red is for Scorpion Shield or to get some power sooner then later for example a Defender trying to get Power Sink via Mu Mastery instead of Electric Mastery.
If you had a build for example that could use any patron power pool or was that good that it did not matter what Patron or Epic you had then I might say Soul Mastery for Dark embrace that covers 4 resistance types and Oppressive Gloom because its good at controlling the numerous minions that get too close. But that is just an opinion.
As an example you mentioned cold mastery, I hate it because of the ice cube look it gives you. You spend the time to make up a costume or even 5 costumes for your toon and then have them covered up by these ice cubes all over your body. Even though Hoarfrost is nice I look for something else because of the Frozen armor look.
I don't think you can get a real good answer without a build.
