Patron vs. Epic pool choice

I've played an ice blaster for a long, long time. But, I've finally figured out the mysteries of mids, and after more than a year of procrastination because I don't like learning curves, I've taken my hero to the redside. A vigilante at present, primarily for badge purposes, but will have to go full villain to get the rest of the badges.

While I'm there - I'd heard about shadow meld - but even more interesting is the idea of getting scorpion shield - as the first power to pick in the pool - as opposed to my blaster that has to use two power picks that very rarely come into my attack chain before I can get frozen armor.

Can someone make any recommendations for or against any patron power. As far as the blue side, I find the cold mastery to be better than the rest because of the heal - although force mastery catches my eye with both Temp Invulnerability and the Personal force field.

Thoughts? I can easily check the numbers - but I thought there might be something the numbers don't clearly reveal - like a not so obvious end drain, for example.

Blasters can't have Shadow Meld.

Patrons can be very dependent on your build. There are some builds I could not create without the use of Patron Powers.

The majority of people that go Red is for Scorpion Shield or to get some power sooner then later for example a Defender trying to get Power Sink via Mu Mastery instead of Electric Mastery.

If you had a build for example that could use any patron power pool or was that good that it did not matter what Patron or Epic you had then I might say Soul Mastery for Dark embrace that covers 4 resistance types and Oppressive Gloom because its good at controlling the numerous minions that get too close. But that is just an opinion.

As an example you mentioned cold mastery, I hate it because of the ice cube look it gives you. You spend the time to make up a costume or even 5 costumes for your toon and then have them covered up by these ice cubes all over your body. Even though Hoarfrost is nice I look for something else because of the Frozen armor look.

I don't think you can get a real good answer without a build.

I can vouch for mace mastery, and also the Fire and Force Mastery Epic Pools.

Mace is great for an up close and personal blaster. With it you can softcap your S/L defenses, along with weave and maneuvers.

  • My only complaint is that mace mastery currently is bugged, preventing you from editing your costumes while you have the pool

Fire mastery has some good resistances, with tough it's easily capp'd at 45% S/L. For a ranged player it's also good to have due to bonfire and char. Both are handy mitigation abilities. Rise of the Phoenix is fantastic for a blaster, especially if you faceplant often. It provides that rewarding "HAH!" when your body explodes and you emerge to crush the ones who wronged you.
  • It's also notable that bonfire can juggle (bounce in place) large enemies, like malta robots.

Force mastery is great for a blaster at any range. It has "Force of nature" which is a great godmode click that lasts 2 minutes. The targeted aoe power is good for flooring mobs, and personal force field provides that perfect "oh crap" button. It beyond softcaps your defenses making you nearly un-hittable in a common battle situation.

It all depends on your playstyle.

You do know the resist cap for Blasters is 75% right? Other than Force and Elec Mastery I don't think any other set can touch it.

Other than that all other points were pretty good, I'd have to say that Mace Patron is pretty top tier in my book for Blaster Epics, I mean, comes with a hold (Which is nice to stack on sets that have a hold), AoE damage, AoE immob, 3 Pets, and a high defense Shield, it's hard to turn any of those down, the only downside is the redraw, if you can get past that, it is a nice set to have.
