"Gunmages" DP/MM Build....

"Gunmage" is supposed to be an epic DP/MM farmer...and Im sure he is....posted his build and mids here:

http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=268020

The build cost about 25 billion. I was really interested in it, so I worked hard for a long time and copied it.

What a major disappointment. I dont last 60 seconds in an S/L farm. Im sure there is nothing wrong with the build. So my question is, if there are any other DP/MM farmers here...

What is your attack chain?

What are the tips that make this work?

Are you running the farm solo ?

Are you using inspirations?

Remember, if you're the only one on the map and you're killing enemies by the dozen, inspirations will drop very quickly. You can also setup macros and hotkeys to convert inspirations for you if you don't have quick mouse skills.

I've ran a few low defense AoE-oriented blasters through (whatever) farms by spamming inspirations this way. About the only problem I've ran into is the lack of an aggro aura, so enemies run away a lot.

I've ran solo and also using venge. I go through purple inspies quickly when not using venge.

I've gotten a little better but still die several times on a small map. I know incarnate abilities (barrier maybe?) would make a difference but at the price of this build I was hoping it wouldnt take that....and the original design didnt call for any.

Ive now created a second build so I can run regular content, because the expensive build was so specific...I couldnt even solo level 50 content, and just got plain whacked in sLam's.

Paid dearly for getting fascinated with possibilities!

Did you by chance read my post's in that thread ?

http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...7&postcount=21

The player in question might have been using a specific farm as another poster did mention hover and limited range attacks. But regardless you MUST have another dead player with you at all times for vengeance bait. Its pretty much vengeance and DP the group for the regeneration and recovery bonus and fire off your AOE attacks. Rinse and repeat. Of course having 2 others for bait might be better as hopefully you will have one dead at any time. Having to use Vengeance when the player isn't dead can be an issue. Or create some sort of sword AE ambush farm.

That is the problem with these one trick ponies.

This is why you need to learn the game mechanics so you can understand what your getting into. Otherwise someone says its good and everyone just follows blindly..

Yes, plainguy, I actually did read your post, but didnt put it together that that was YOU. Thats a great post.

Yes, this was a case of following blindly, something I havent done in 7 years of this game, and Im not sure why I did it now except that I was curious. To see an actual blaster / farmer seems very awesome.

All this talk about farming, I want to say this....I have not been into that aspect of the game in my 7 years, until recently. I do have a TW/FA brute that is a very successful farmer; "Gunmages" build...at least with ME running it...doesnt come close to my brute...not close at all. So the question becomes...whats the point? The point for me was, I thought this build would totally rock, maybe have some incredible DPS because it IS a blaster, but its much harder work and so dependant on , well, venge for one thing.

But I enjoy the second build I made yesterday, fully IO'd but at a fraction of the cost. I may try "Gunmages" build in a farm again when its fully incarnated.

Using a build that doesn't suit your playstyle = total trainwreck.

Gunamges build works because...gunmage uses it.

Hey dude you made lemonade out of lemons and you have a a good attitude about it which makes you 1000x better man about it.
You get a thumbs up from me.

That build actually isn't great for s/l farming in my opinion because it relies on Vengeance. You can build a perma Drain Psyche blaster with softcapped s/l defense and high resists and use it for solo ticket farming. I would actually recommend Archery over DP too. Here's a build I threw together a while ago. Drain Psyche is half a second from perma but I doubt that's going to make a difference, and I'm pretty sure it would have overlap with Ageless.

Edit: Also, considering the (granted s/l specific) survivability of this build, it has the benefit of only needing to use red inspirations, so damage can be capped as long as the bodies keep dropping.

I am new to the DP/MM/Ice blaster and I can solo a +2/+8 without vengeance. My attack chain is Concentration + Drain Psyche + Hail of Bullets + Psychic Shockwave +
Psychic Scream + Empty Clips + Bullet Rain. The reason I do Bullet Rain last is because it does do a KB and will spread out the mob, but once they stand back up they come right back to me.

I am an old school farmer from back in the day and I am still used to adjusting myself to the angle where I can hit the most enemies by my cone attacks while in a group. I also have a macro that will automatically combine three insp to an insp I need for the mission. I also buy the med pack recipes so I will always have a heal handy.
