Quote:I understand the concept of double-stacking the power in game, but I wasn't aware there was a way to do that in Mids'. [Poke, poke, poke around in the software...]Not looking at the build at the moment, but Werner's probably got DA double-stacked.
Ah! I see now. Wow, Mids really is pretty awesome. Ok, so that explains that. But now I'm still puzzled. Looking closely at the details of DA for his build and mine, the Info tab shows that DA gives me 20% defense, but gives Werner 22.79%. How is that? According to the Enhance tab, my slotting boosts the defense on DA by 33.3%, while his is only 15.94%. His version also does more damage, but the damage is enhanced less.
I thought it might be an Incarnate thing at first, but we both have that turned off. But we both have a chance of causing fire damage with DA, which must come from the reactive interface. And I think he is assuming higher tier Incarnate abilities than I am, so maybe that explains it. Except that the Incarnate toggle is off. So I'm still confused. -
Thanks Elegost, for putting all of those builds into one place. I've been comparing them to my current build (well, not quite current, I'm still gathering up hero merits for the PvP IO's). The main differences I see between those three and mine are in resistance. I skipped resilience and didn't slot tough. I guess I could drop flashing steel or superspeed to get resilience, and put the flashing steel slots into tough.
I'm not sure it's worth it, though. This character is all about speed. I like having the extra attack to help me fight when I'm slowed, and superspeed is still a lot faster than ninja run. Does the extra resistance make a big difference in practice?
One odd thing I noticed. On my build, if I toggle off Divine Avalanche in mids, my defense numbers go down exactly 20%. In 2/3 of the builds in Elegost's post (a couple of pages back) toggling off DA drops defense by around 20-25%, depending I think on the slotting of DA. But when I toggle off DA in the final Werner BBQ build, defense for lethal and melee drops by 40 points. And I don't see anything in his slotting of DA to explain that. What am I missing?
Oh, and here's my build, if anyone wants to critique it or offer other suggestions:

I checked caps lock , and it wasn't the num pad. So I did the next logical thing: I turned my computer off and back on again. Now it works just fine! Ah, technology. Can't live with it, can't afford to smash it with a hammer and replace it every time it annoys me.
/shrug. Guess all is well now. Thanks. -
-
EDIT: Now it's working again. Like magic! Yay.
I was playing CoH yesterday and everything was fine, except for my monitor. It has been falling apart for weeks now, and this morning it was clearly on its last legs. So I ran out and bought a new monitor. It's widescreen (which isn't a perfect fit for my desk, but apparently that's all you can easily buy these days). I plug in the new monitor, fire it up, and everything is fine. I launch CoH to make sure it looks good... and I can't log in.
The Launcher seems to work, I get to the login screen. My username is already there, as usual. I put in the password, and I get an odd error message: "You must fill out the account and password fields to log in to your account." I tried a few more times, with no change. I put in the wrong password on purpose, and it gave me a different, more reasonable error: "The account name or password that you have entered is incorrect."
I tried messing around a little. As long as the first character I type is the first character in my password, then I get that first error message no matter what else I type after that. If the first character is not correct, then I get the second error message.
Under no circumstances can I log in.
Any ideas? I can't imagine a new monitor could cause something like this, but nothing else has changed on my end. -
Quote:Yes, I hate discovering on a high level character that I never got around to unlocking the Midnighter stuff and now I have to go back and do that before I can run an ITF. I don't mind the story arc, but I don't necessarily want to do it on every single character, and it gets easier and easier to skip the more new stuff is added.I'd like to see all the stupid access stuff (vanguard intro for merit drops, cimerora, ouroboros so we have it automatically, tailor missions) go into a little bundle like that as well, to get rid of it.
Actually, it would be even better if you just automatically unlocked it for all characters once they reach level 35. -
Personally I don't care if some incarnate powers are locked behind emp merits. That seems pretty reasonable, really. You need incarnate rewards to get incarnate powers. It's a lot more reasonable than having silly little emotes/costume change emotes/costume bits locked that way. We'll still be able to unlock the slots and put something good in them without needing 15 emp merits.
I mean, personally, I'll never unlock them. I don't earn emp merits quickly enough. I don't think I'll live long enough to have 15 to spare.
It's the idea of losing the emp merit reward on some of the trials that bothers me. Those trials haven't gotten any faster or easier lately. Why take away the reward?
(It's a rhetorical question. I'm pretty sure the answer is because we run them too quickly and too easily, so people are earning emp merits faster than the devs intended. Solution: cut the rate of earning. Also, add something to spend them on, like unlockable incarnate powers. I don't think we'll persuade the devs not to make these changes unless we provide other means of solving the problem.) -
Quote:Well, I find it pretty easy to ignore fools. A lot of other people seem to be driven mad by the idea that someone somewhere on the internet is wrong about something.Does anyone ever suffer fools gladly? I mean I'm sure there must be people out there who actually enjoy the suffering they experience due to fools, but they have to be an almost insignificant minority.
I was here before I9 and I'm here now, and all the time in between. I haven't noticed a change in the overall community. Most people are nice and helpful, or at least most of the posts I bother to read. A lot of threads fall into a morass of misery after a few pages and I generally don't bother to read those after that point. There are certainly some unpleasant individuals, but there always have been.
Personally I find the worst community in the broadcast chats in game. Lots of people there with the unfortunate combination of being terribly ignorant about the game, and yet very assertive and bossy about making everyone else play in accordance with their misunderstandings.
Somehow though I rarely run into those people in actual teams. Also, that only seems to be a problem in the public channels like help and broadcast. In the global channels where I participate, mostly on Champion server, things are much better. -
Thank you everyone. I thought there might be a glowie somewhere, so I went and checked everywhere but I guess I missed it. Thanks!

Don't read if you don't want to see spoilers...
A few missions in, I was told to go look around in a store without drawing suspicion. So I nosed around near an interesting hallway, but the guards told me I couldn't enter. So I didn't. Then I went up stairs, and some other guards allowed me to go talk to their boss. I had a choice of asking him nicely or getting forceful. Not wanting to arouse suspicion, I asked nicely. I got no answers. So I went back downstairs, turned on my stealth powers, and tried to sneak past the guards. They spotted me, and they all pulled out their guns. I dashed past and explored a bit, but didn't find anything. So I wiped the floor with the guards, but that didn't accomplish anything. And now I'm stuck. The mission hasn't failed, but it doesn't look like it's possible to succeed now either. I can't think of another time in this game when I've had a mission get stuck like this that wasn't a bug.
So is this a bug? Or am I missing a glowie? Or am I screwed? -
I think the way it works for character unlocks is that you get a bunch of unlock tokens and you have to go through and click on every character and unlock them. Pretty silly, but I believe that is the case.

Quote:Grecian stuff exists, but isn't sold in the store. There could be more and better sexy lingerie options. Wedding pack really doesn't cut it, IMO. The wedding outfits aren't bad, but the fact that entire stores the size of warehouses are packed with wedding dresses suggests that a few more options would not be unwelcome.problem is, GG, what could we really make for a Valentine's day costume series that isn't already covered?
Sexy lingerie? Wedding pack does it, along with a few other packs and costume options.
Roman/Grecian stuff? Already have it.
Wedding outfits? See the wedding pack again.
Formal wear? Got that in various forms.
So what could we get for a Valentine's day themed bundle?
Aura: little hearts floating around the character, like you always see in cartoons.
Costume change emote: A chippendale style tearing off of the outer layer of clothes.
Temp power: bow with heart tipped arrows which cause a placate or confuse affect.
A pet cupid who follows you around shooting such arrows, so your enemies temporarily fall in love with you.
More and better heart patterns on clothing
Etc. -
Piranha don't have eyestalks. Would be nice if those were moved off to some head detail section or something. But otherwise it all looks cool, and the brain in a jar is pretty amazing. Just knowing that we can have a see-through space where our head is supposed to be gives me hope of having a real skeleton set some day, where you can see right through the ribs.
But doggone it I just got my monthly stipend and I was hoping to save it up for the next powerset! But how can I not buy a brain in a jar? I have never in my life turned down the opportunity to buy a brain in a jar and I'm not going start now! -
Yeah, I just double checked. Bid has been there since March, at the latest. Still out.
EDIT: both bids, actually: one on the recipe, one on the enhancement. Level 50, because they're more common. -
Quote:I was wondering about that. I don't think anything has ever had a maximum number of characters less than 8. I wonder if they meant to say "4 or more characters", which would be more in line with most task forces. Capping a team at four players is weird. The Halloween event page says the new event is for "up to four characters".
Does this mean we can solo it if we want?
By the way, totally off topic, but can someone remind me what those energy wings are? I remember reading about them before, but I can't remember anything about them. -
Quote:Because they want something to do for the next six days, before the rewards reset?Look for Arc 1 to be massively farmed then. Ghosting all three missions in about 10 minutes? Why would anyone out for AM rewards play anything else?
I don't think the devs are worried about people farming the arc. At least, I can't imagine why they would care. I mean, it's not like they've never released something that people have farmed before. There's always something that certain people will play over and over and over and over and over and over until their eyes bleed. Why would the devs care exactly which thing it is that's being farmed, as long as the rewards are within a range they're comfortable with? Which they are. But they wouldn't be if you could get an AM every single time. So you can't.
I think Obitus has the right of it. The point of selling the arcs for $5 isn't to make $5 over and over. The point is to increase the perceived value of the subscription and lure people into becoming VIP players. -
The video interview GG mentioned is specifically about the story arc. Maybe that is what you had in mind? It was mentioned in this post:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...31#post3929131
And the actual video is here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYnhk...=youtu.be&hd=1
That's not the story arc, but it is about the story arc. They don't reveal anything though. -
Quote:Yeah, I can't believe people don't see this. You thought the devs would let us get 7 hero merits in one day, in just an hour or two, every week? I admit I was hoping they would, but I never thought it likely. The devs aren't just thinking about today or this month, they plan things many months and even years in advance. In a couple of years, if the arcs didn't share a timer, you'd be able to grab dozens of hero merits with minimal effort every week. Apparently that's just not something they plan to allow, and I can't blame them.If they are going to be releasing a new storyarc every month for the forseeable future, and they are all going to be easily soloable in 30 minutes or so, putting them all on the same cooldown is the only way to prevent a massive deflation in value of Hero Merits.
They have the first-time-freebie so that people who come in late and play through all the storyarcs in a row are not penalized compared to people who play the arcs once as they come out.
The SSAs make a lot more sense if you think of them more as a VIP perk than as something the Devs expect Premiums to buy on a regular basis. -
Quote:Off market I've never seen one sell below 2.5 billion. In market I've had a bid in at 2 billion for months and never bought one. I wonder if that bid is still outstanding? I'll have to log that character in and check. Haven't done that lately.Yes, on the market you can get them for 1.5-2.0B with patience. I have known people to successfully sell them for as much as 3.4B off market. While the asking price here is a bit above the normal off-market price, I have seen them go for this price within the last 4 weeks via global channels. Good luck on selling.

Interesting. I never saw it go over ten seconds, so I assumed it was 0-10 with an average of 5 seconds. I ran to the door first, and then started turning my toggles on, so I could go out as soon as it unlocked, even if I wasn't all the way toggled up. For the Underground at least there was no risk of stepping right into danger. I can see how 20 seconds could be twice as annoying as ten seconds, though personally that still isn't annoying enough to notice.
-
Tried it last night but failed. We were steamrolling everything until the Avatar. I was confused almost permanently, and overall we just weren't doing enough damage or living long enough. Sometimes it felt like half the league was running back from the hospital at any given moment.
I know we didn't use pets because we were afraid they would hit us. Anyone with clarion was using it, I think. Maybe we were too spread out for it to be very effective. I was trying to pay attention to those huge messages on the screen, but I think the devs have a wider monitor than I do. I don't think the first and last words were even on my screen, and the second and next-to-last words were covered by the chat box and the map. All I could see were things like "seeds! Back a" and then I'd start running, just in case.
For me the worst part of the whole trial was when I disconnected about 2/3 of the way through and I could not for the life of me find a way back to the team. They were in the middle of what sounded like a very exciting fight, so no one could spare a moment to TP me for what felt like a very long time. (Note: I'm not complaining about them, they were a great bunch. I just hated being sidelined during a fight like that.) -
It never crossed my mind to complain about the doors. It's a delay of, what, ten seconds? The first time I even noticed it was during a recent underground, when I was very grateful that I had other players to follow back into the action. I know there's a teleporter right there, but I still got lost sometimes, and I wasn't the only one.

I keep meaning to post here, just to give my two cents. First, I think this is a fantastically detailed and well-written guide. I've always been impressed by the quality of information that TopDoc shares with us, but this really blew me away. So simple, but so thorough, even I could follow it! I've never done any farming before, I mean not for more than a couple of missions in a row followed by a year long break from farming. It bores me to tears. This was actually fun.
Second, I just wanted to let you know that I did indeed make a cat girl. Cheercat, over on the German server. A science student who decided to inject herself with DNA from her school mascot, a panther. I figured since I would only be playing solo, I might as well play on a foreign server where I had plenty of character slots. Somehow it didn't sink in that everything would be all foreign and stuff. Actually, once I thought about it, I was surprised by how much of the text was still in English. It must be tough to play if you don't speak any English at all.
Let me see, I started a few weeks before the last 2xp weekend. I've gotten to level 40 or so. That may sound slow to you, but it's lightning fast to me. It usually takes me about a year of steady play to reach level 50. I normally only play for a few hours a week. The CEBR thing was so quick and easy and fun, I could jump in and run one mission in just a few minutes, and then log out again. That made it easy to play more than I normally do and level faster.
I should probably apologize for the dev's nerf. It's all my fault. Every time I try to jump on some kind of gravy train, they always hit the brakes. I started playing a regen when they were gods. As I leveled up, the dev's nerfed each power just before I could get it. Seems to happen to me every time. That what comes from being so casual I guess. I hear about some new trick with IO's or the AE or whatever, and it's gone in the next patch. So sorry about that guys, for bringing my bad luck into your lovely leveling frenzy.
By the way, I've made about 400 million inf so far. I sold a lot of salvage at first. More recipes lately, especially gold ones so I don't have to do as much crafting. Bronze rolls are so cheap there's a lot of clutter. -
Quote:Before anyone gets too snarky, this is just a simple misunderstanding. When you said training enhancements, I'm pretty sure you meant common IO's. The ones with boring names like Invention: Accuracy, as opposed to all the other IO's with exciting names like Kinetic Combat and Snarl of the Wombat.I was saying IO's in general as an example. And if you could please read what i said let them make Training enhancements through the invention system. Slotting was not specified in this topic...skimming does not always help. Not saying you did but with your response it seems like it.
Training Origin enhancements predated Invention Origin enhancements by nine issues. They are the first tier in the Training Origin, Dual Origin, Single Origin chain. No crafting, no inventing, just buy them or get them as drops and slot them.
Free/Premium players get TOs, DOs, and SOs.
If you're suggesting that free/premium players be allowed to get common IOs, I don't think that's entirely unreasonable, but you might need to give them access to the auction house as well. It can be very frustrating trying to get all of the right salvage and recipes from drops alone. I think that's a little more than the devs are prepared to give away for free.
EDIT: And TonyV is right on both points. The word is moot, and he is being pedantic. The thing about mistakes like that is that a lot of people won't know you made a mistake, but the people most likely to catch the error and think less of you as a result are people that you probably care about, like teachers, bosses, and the cute girl with glasses and a dog-eared copy of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy who smiled at you in the coffee shop.

Quote:You see the problem here? When you sell stuff cheap, it's to help crafters get cheap salvage. (Although if there are 10,000 for sale for under 500 inf each, I don't think the problem you're trying to solve actually exists, but whatever.)When I dump "junk" salvage for less than 100 inf, it is so that people can get the salvage they need without paying through the nose for stuff they need for crafting.
I know that I'm taking an Inf hit (I don't really care because if I'm in a hurry I'll delete it anyway), but when someone comes along and artificially raises the cost by doing what the original poster does, it annoys me.
The thing is, when I sell stuff cheap, it's to help low level characters make some money by vendoring trash. It's exactly the same reason why I put aluminum cans next to trash cans. If someone is so desperate for money that they'll pick through the trash and haul it to a recycler/vendor, then I say good luck and God bless.
If someone actually bought that junk and crafted stuff with it, I wouldn't really mind, but that's not what I had in mind when I listed it.
On the other hand, I do have one character where I'm trying to get lots of badges. On that character, I list stuff cheap because I want the next sales badge. I don't care who buys it or why as long as it sells quickly because I have a lot more stuff to sell and not enough slots on the market.
So the problem is that Spacenut can't tell WHY people listed things for the price they did. He can't even tell who listed it. He doesn't know if he's buying it from people who want a badge and he's doing them a favor, or if he's buying it from someone who wanted to help crafters and he's annoying them. Some of both are out there and he can't pick and choose when buying.
And you don't know who bought it or why. So you can assume that he bought it and vendored it, and you can be annoyed, or you can assume that some poor lowbie crafter bought it and crafted with it and be happy. But you'll never know which it was.
The bottom line, as far as I'm concerned, is that if you sell something for 100 inf and someone buys it for 100 inf, then you don't get to complain, period.
