Quote:I get about 8% hidden from Talos Wentworths. I have been meaning to sample the AP or SC WW to see if its different. People who want to be be as recluse as possible would use the KR WW. I suppose I could hang out in Oroboros and sample there too.I feel that Billz has a high number as well, but I don't flip out about it. (How many of the people in the game have multiple 50's, compared to the forum population?)
Seeing who is hidden or not is boring as heck. If people want to be hidden they will be hidden. -
I've seen just about everything while pugging.
Petless MMs, "healer" stalker, "healer" brute. scraptrollers (trollers who use melee attacks from pools), trollers who skip the single target hold, 'fraidy Tanks, Empahty Tanks, Blasters with Provoke and "Brawlman" 6 slotted brawl on auto.
Not meaning to "nitpick" but if I saw a brute with provoke vs taunt I would probably ask them why provoke instead of taunt. Most brutes are pretty tight on pools so I would be curious as to why. -
Market Merger probably reduced that number for me somewhat, but I still plan to move some to blueside.
-
I have some things.
1. A better player search interface. Just being able to search by who isn't in a team would be really helpful when trying to find someone. A team looking for more would be nice too.
2. Increase maximums on number of people in global channels
3. shutting down of powers in Wentworths/Black Market or at least have one where that is the case. Sometimes I wonder if people turn on as much as possible to be annoying.
4. Each Wentworths/BM should have crafting tables and a vault nearby. -
I don't think you would be kicked but I would certainly wonder why it was skipped.
From the soloing standpoint, I don't care what people do with their builds. If I was building a team, then I do care.
There was another post about VEATs skipping leadership too. I note that someone skipped those and mind link. Those players I put at the bottom of the list of who I recruit.
Mind Link isn't asked for because there are some rude players who throw a fit if you ask. Just like the "SB plz!" people can get rude remarks if they ask too much (even when they have been boosted 100% of the time).
I know if someone asks me to SB them when they are already buffed they certainly get a response.
Good players don't need to be prodded or told what to do. If you didn't take Mind Link, I know already because I clicked info on your character. Just like if you did take ML and not use/share it.
Sometimes I send a tell asking why a player skipped something. I get all sorts of responses from "I had no idea! TY for help." to profanity laced replys just for asking a simple question. These days I look at vet badges and anyone over 12 months is "veteran" enough to know better.
As also pointed out, the game itself is really easy and generally speaking the only thing that can slow a team down is team griefing power use. (like D-shift) With the levels of IO set bonuses many characters can solo at x8 and don't need a team at all.
Quote:Much like with my Bane, i got to poking my Widow and after tweaking her build i noticed i don't really need Mind Link, as found my defenses to be capped (melee, ranged, aoe) without it, thus rendering it kinda useless.
Now, i'm fully aware how awesome the power is, but the fact is i don't need it and would like to pick up another power instead of it, something that'd fit the concept of Night Widow better, something i'd get more mileage out of, if you will.
But my dilemma is that how.. upset would potential teammates be, should i join a team (i usually form my own teams, but there are times someone manages to send me an invite before i can form anything) and not have the power?
Should i be expecting a /kick (extreme cases) or would anyone even notice that i lacked the power? -
Usually its "taunt" that brutes sometimes take not "provoke". Its fairly rare but all of my brutes take it to get more aggro to build up fury in teams. Mostly an issue since IOs allows brutes to solo missions at x8, so many drop taunt as unnecessary since they don't need a team. It allows further pushing of power choices like taking tough and weave a couple of levels earlier.
I see the "lack" of guideance also when I run in pug teams as well. I think some of that comes from the fact that the "best" teams I am on there is no need to communicate at all.Veteran players check out teammates via info and note what powersets people have. Don't need to be prodded for buffs. tactics, taunts and heals.
When I am on teams where someone does try to give guideance, they got lots of rants back. Then you get players who get guideance who choose not to even try it. Then when you look, you find out its a 60+ month vet who should know better. So I am not surprised people don't say anything.
When I run teams I don't say much. Good teams and players don't really need it. If we fight something other than the easy stuff (Warriors, Council, Freaks) I ask if people know how to fight stuff. Tsoo, CoT, Rikti, Malta, Knives and bank/mayhem I just skip. Other stuff like Sky Raiders, Vahz, Carnival require some but not overwheming tactics. Yet, I see many bad tanks, brutes, scrappers and whoever else wants to open up fights who constantly let the sky raider engineer get off the Force Field generator. I have yet to see any time my "guideance" has ever corrected this other than me just taking over and "correcting" the problem with sky raider engineers.
I certainly understand. It really depends on the players, if I am on a team I am invited to, I just go in and do my role. I do what the team leader says to do as long as its not stupid and a waste of time. (Like single pull warriors with a defense capped team or fight Longbow with diff set +4 or fight +2 or higher mobs like Tsoo or CoT <insert other hard mobs here>)
Quote:I wanted to throw this post out for those playing the Trial and or new subs players in grouping tactics. I feel it is necessary to get the word out on how often I see dumb mistakes caused by "not knowing" better. I blame this on the lack of guidance by most team leaders assuming people know how things roll or lack of basic guidance out there in general.
Much of this I would list as common sense things one would know from MMO gaming experience but I will cover some of it.
Grouping and what you should be aware of.
1. DO NOT pull till the team is loaded , buffed, pets out, and leader says let's go.
2. IF your team has a brute, Abuse him. Let him Go first...Don't pull mr corrupter of squishyness. To only take a alpha attack in the face and cause team wide panic. Especially if you have the only healing ability.
A> IF team lacks a brute, use the next best thing being soldier and or pets..work your way down the squishy man list.
Leaders please communicate better.
Establish your leadership by putting forth the game plan. Who Pulls ...when to engage...when to rest....evaluate your party as they fight to determine if it's too easy...if they struggle..dont ninja Up the difficulty. It's not about XP per kill its about XP per hour ...anyone who has played grind xp games like lineage 2 , ffxi online, and other grind outs...knows this is a better way to judge xp gain.
Brutes...Let it be known you have provoke. that makes a world of difference. The fact you can herd the mobs on you means AOE can let loose. This in turn makes it most easy for the uneasy feeling player to feel confident running in to heal you or aoe will not result in an army putting their guns on them.
So far these are what I have noticed since I have returned to the game. People seem unorganized and or timid ...at the same time hesitant ..
Establish who leads
Establish who pulls
This can in turn make a odd team build become a fun time with little down time...and fun for everyone.
Non important gibberish:
I was prompted to post this from the many horrible experiences yesterday. Now I have had some bad groups but this was the worst "day" so far. One after another a non communicative leader, a goof off one that didn't even "lead", or simply baffoonery behavior by team mates that made us eat debt.
I decided to test my theory out and lead by the way I am suggesting. My team did well. We had good leveling and a fun time. there was no chaos in my team. The main reason was I established leadership by communicating and acting as a GUIDE vs a tyrant or ignorant baffoon with my team.
Im done...to you veterans sorry if this was not a very informative thread for you...I know you all know what you are doing. I am not trying to insult your intellect here =). This thread is for the new and or clueless newbie.
If you have tips on party builds and leading do add... -

I think some of the problem is that "pugging" in general is often a less than pleasureable experience.
Sure I get good teams but I get more bad teams. On TFs bad teams are rare. Mainly because TFs are being run by "Veteran players" with 50s who want merits so diff is set to +0. Most of the TFs are against some of the weakest mobs around. (Positron TF at level 15 being one of the hardest due to Ruin Mages and Vahz zombies) I've even seen people who run Positron lower so that Madness Mages spawn because they are so much easier.
So why join a pug when I can join a TF and get a guaranteed 10 missions and lots of merits and team with good players?
I should run some personal statistics on pugs. How long does it take to get a tell or invite with lft flag on. Then quality of the team, basically, was it a good team, an acceptable team or a bad team.
Some of the numbers might be embarassing. My Dominator on Freedom has not had a tell or invite for 10 hours and the stalker is pushing 18 hours.
Then I should try not setting LFT but send out lft broadcasts and see. If I was a gambling man, I would wager broadcasts get teams faster.
I think there is another reason for a hiding. Even I hid back in the days of "soft PL begging". Where you had someone who was 3-5 levels below you wanting to join your team. Then, they refused to sk or if they did sk, it was to the lowest level person possible. Then there were the anchor sk tells. So the moment you ding 41 you got tons of tells asking you to anchor. Then it became level 46. Then before the changes to difficulty slider for numbers, I would only get "filler" tells but no teaming tells.
Quote:Yes Quinch I have to admit, the flip-side of this request is that those who DO take the time/trouble to set their Flag actually ACT as if they really ARE LFT (by responding to my polite Invite within, oh...I dunno...10 minutes of me sending it?).
I'm reluctant to criticize anyone who's actually bothering to use the Flags at all, but there's nothing more frustrating than getting all excited when you see 3 needed, level-appropriate ATs all Flagged as LFT at the top of the list, and NOT getting a response from ANY OF THEM after an Invite Tell (happened this weekend!).
*shakes head sadly* Really, then, it's just about the whole LF-Search-team formation thing needing a minor overhaul. I think it's pretty powerful and pretty useful as-is, but some tweaking and polishing would really make it shine. -
If people don't know how your powerset works that isn't your problem. Cast vengeance on their dead body then pass them a wakie.
*If its a player with 6 months or less on vet badges I'll send them a tell about how traps works. If its a 36+ month vet, sorry that's just ignorance on their part.*
When teaming, its a good idea to info what powersets people have.
Quote:I tried to make a traps defender, and I sucked at it. I'd just keep plugging away, but there were other issues (including a serious clipping problem on his costume when running which was driving me nuts), and he was only level 8, so I deleted and figured I would at some point give it another try.
But this leads me to a question: How is a traps defender supposed to work? In a lot of groups I've been in, there's been a serious difficulty in not having any healing to speak of, and I'm not sure Triage Beacon does much healing -- I don't have exact numbers to hand, but it didn't seem like it was doing much. I suppose the force field drone is a pretty core power, but this gets me to my general question:
How is a traps/ defender expected to handle stuff, either soloing or in groups? What's the solution to "health bar has gone red", or do you just try to keep that from happening? My intuitive read is that, compared to sets that have at least some heals, traps ought to be pretty weak, or ought to have some huge advantages to make up for the lack... But I'm told it's a really strong set.
So what's the trick?
(Edit to clarify: Interestingly, /devices is my joy, and the two blasters I'm still playing are both /devices, because OMG SO MUCH FUN.) -
Just set diff to +4 x8 and stick to easy stuff like Knives of Artemis, Malta, Soldiers of Rularuu and Lanaruu.
Then when GR comes out change sides and solo LRSF. -
Quote:All I can say is this, if it did KD I would take it no questions asked. As KB? No thanks, add it to the list of auto skip powers. At least its better than Hand Clap and Lightning Clap.A kheldian is also not simply a kheldian, trying to play a warshade like a peacebringer and vice-versa will result in just as many attacks of 'wrong' as trying to play them like any other AT.
Doubtful.
It's very much like the dominator revamp a while back, many that knew how to use them and would put the effort in didn't see why they should be fundamentally changed to be easier for the average player to use. The discussion on that got so heated that the devs left the thread and presented the community with a fait accompli.
The majority of players don't like KB and don't want to have to learn to use their main damage powers as knockback control powers that do damage; this makes the few people that either actually like the effect - or just like the feeling of superiority they gain from being intelligent enough to 'do it right' - to be very vocal and defensive about the possibility of changing it to something more user friendly.but that's not saying much.

Your right, I didn't do the search correctly.
A person is still publically visible. So I tried hanging out in wentworths and verfiying if a person is hidden or not hidden.
So far its hovering around 9% hidden. No its not a good number (due to small sample size) but its much better than 26 out of 30
I should try AP WW and see if the number is different.
Quote:I think you must have done something wrong, misclicked something, etc. FYI, when people are hidden, they do NOT show up for a /whoall command. There are degrees of hide, but I would think most people use hide the same way I do - I just type /hideall to make it fast and simple. If you use /hideall, you will not show up on /whoall. -
All the talk about hidden vs unhidden got my curiosity.
So late last night on virtue I did my own not representive not enough real data test of player population. So did a search in Talos Island and found 4 people in zone but /whoall showed 30!
Again, means nothing but it was an eye opener. -
My own experience with Sonic.
It does a good job and really boosts teams. The problem is people start to play dumb once they realize they can just go nuts soloing whole spawns with the extra resistance. So you have a team where everyone is soloing and not teaming.
End cost on Disruption field is a bit excessive. Otherwise the problem isn't the set its the team. -
Quote:End was a big problem until stamina. Animation times on spines seem painfully long. The AoE goodness of the set.I was doing a little studying of the pwersets and it appears to be a real strong set.
Wondered if anyone had experience of it?
Take Energize at 22 and slot it up ASAP. -
The game would be utterly dull and boring if I soloed all time. When I play with different players I see different and new things. (Of course, many of those things can be really silly). I do some teaming with some friends I made in game as well.
Amusingly, I get more tells to join teams when I am soloing a Scrapper or Brute and want to solo. I get very few tells when I am soloing a Character who prefers to team and have the LFT flag on: Defender, Controller, Corruptor, Blaster, Tanker, Mastermind, Dominator, VEAT or HEAT.
Now my stalker gets no tells at all even with LFT flag on. So these days when I do feel like soloing I play my stalker.Who will probably have to solo to 50 even if I want to team.
So yes, I have been tempted to hide whlie playing my scrappers or brutes. -

I thought there was a bigger buff for stalkers that got scaled back some. If I recall correctly demoralize was much better than what we got on live.
When the devs look over the TF/SF complete numbers and decide stalkers are being left out.

Kin Defender + Fulcrum Shift = way more than a Blaster.
Kin Corruptor + Fulcrum Shift + Scourage = OMG! Even more than a Blaster!
Quote:Well, im going to do what I do best, and point out the Obvious for this question.
Blasters get Aim+BU, unless they went with Devices, then they just get Aim.Also dont forget if you fire off a couple attacks on a Blaster you get a damage bonus anyhow, so that adds even more.
However, if you go on the basis that most take a Secondary that provides a BU on there blaster builds. The answer is simple.Blasters get 500 Damage base for Blizzard with a Additional 165% Damage bonus from Dual Build ups.Making it over 1300 before 3 SOs are added for a additional 500 points making it around 1800.
Corruptors get Scourge.Double Damage, as well as Aim that grants 45%ish damage boost. Its a little bit more difficult to gauge in common math the formula for a Corruptor, but it wont do as much as a Blaster will with Blizzard. Not to mention any additional damage from there Secondary that drops Damage Resistance or allows a Self buff.
Finally, the Defender. They get the standard 500 from the base Damage, then 50% from there Aim.They however dont get a Build Up, or a Scourge. There additional Damage is based on there Primary, is it grants a buff or Debuff. They get the weakest Increase from all the Blizzard carrying Plague dogs of CoX, but its still enough to raise an eyebrow when you see it go off.
A Blaster should pretty much destroy anything it hits with a Ice Storm and Blizzard Combo. Then followed by a properly built Corr, then a Defender set up to Obliterate anything in its path with the before mentioned Combo its self.
What I wrote made sense, but if it didnt to you, then my apologize.
In Lamens Terms, They left the damage base the same for Blizzard due to the rather sizable diffrence in additional Damage the ATs that have them possess.
Simple and you dont need Mid's to tell you this. -
On the detailed info screen.
Blaster Blizzard shows 500.49 damage at level 50
Defender Blizzard shows 500.49 damage at level 50
Corruptor Blizzard shows 500.49 damage at level 50
All have 6m recharge. So are blasters getting shorted here or is there a "copy and paste" mistake on the power info screen? -

Better to release something that works correctly later than to release something now and having to make "changes" later.
Thank You Positron! -
Quote:I certainly agree that single server is in general a better model. It has some drawbacks too. Most Eve-O players know about how bad the lag in Jita is. Its pretty bad to go to any of the market hubs on the weekends. Then you have the systems where mission "farmers" cause immense lag in such as Motsu, Dodixie and Sivala.Eve Online did it right. Single Server for every one that plays the game. This gives you the best sense of cohesion and community. It also solves a number of problems inherent in MMO's. For examtople playing with your friends is easier if theirs only one server its. Its also better for the devs so they can do big events. Unfortunately at this point all our servers are too well-established to effect a server merge, people would scream bloody murder.
Also asking for a general consensus on a forum for voicing your personal opinion is.... a bit redundant.
What would happen if CoX were to go single server? Well AP, Cap, Grandville and PI would be worse lag fests with even more broadcasts of AE and Farm spam.
I don't know about single server for CoX but we probably should cut things down to 4 (US) and 1 (EU). Oh yeah, those 5 servers should be accessable to both US and EU players. I see no reason to keep the players divided. -
What Mike said. Fixed recipe price at WW/BM so I don't have to keep deleting those darn things.
(or lower the drop rate to about 1/4 what it currently is)
Quote:I use temp powers extensively (both Grenades, Kinetic Dampener, Med packs, Recovery Serums and Envenomed Daggers), but I support the OP's idea.
I also find it annoying to have to open up my full recipe tray and delete a few hand grenades or sluggers or whatever every couple of missions.
Despite the high drop rate, the crafting annoyance barrier has been enough to deter most players from using them, judging by the high supply and low prices on both BM and WW.
They do clog up recipe slots unnecessarily, just like TO's and SO's used to do when they still dropped at the high levels.
The clean solution is to make them fixed price items on the market. This way they're still available for the same price and inconvenience for thsoe of us who use them (they still need crafting and salvage purchases) and they don't take up recipe slots.
Making them fixed price also removes influence from the total player pool more efficiently than market fees do as they shift between players.
No one loses anything (no-one's making serious money from selling or vending these), and it removes an irritation.
