    Rad/Psy Defender

Defender debuffs are no longer unresisted, and global resistance means Psi is "just another blast set" (basically its only advantage is the increased range). That and DR means your debuffs have less effect on targets before you even factor in the target's debuff resistance, so it's not uncommon to see people hitting you reliably through Radiation Infection even when it's well-slotted. Your Rad toggles will drop every time you get mezzed, which means every 15 seconds or so you're going to need to spend 3-5 seconds waiting for them to recharge and re-activate them on your target, which is a lot of time to spend doing almost nothing offensively.

Rad is still decent in large-team matches because mez doesn't come into play as often (the odds you're going to be mezzed during the two-or-three second window when you're debuffing a target aren't that high) and -resistance is still somewhat useful, but for small-team and dueling it's really not that great.

    EM/Elec Broot

    1. Protip: building for +dam on a Brute is next to useless. They have a low damage modifier, DR eats damage bonuses pretty badly, and even though Fury is quite sad in PvP it still contributes a little (especially with the fix for Fury generation on player targets).

    2. He said his build lacked punch. I told him that was because of his powersets, not because of how he built it. EM's one of the worst possible primaries for Brutes (post-Energy Transfer nerf but especially post-I13) and Elec Armor is merely passable unless you're fighting Therms or Energy Blasters (lol), where it's pretty nice.

    3. I know full well how to build for +dam on a Brute (or anything else, for that matter). It's really not hard - grab some Makos and ToD for melee sets, Devas for ranged, I could go on - but in doing so you're either going to have to skimp in areas that actually matter (HP, recharge, acc, even KB protection in the case of /Elec) or make a really really expensive build, to which there is no point.

    4. Stop pretending that no one here wants to give build help. Like my earlier post said, the answer you get won't always be the one you want, but that's reality. I'm more than happy to pass out builds, but when the OP himself says the build is lacking punch, and I notice the powersets he's using, I'm going to save him some headaches and likely wasted inf by being upfront and not sugarcoating.

I did read. I also noticed that you said your build lacked kick, which unfortunately isn't going to be solved by throwing any amount of inf at the problem. EM is a subpar melee set on anything other than Stalkers (and not even then, really), and Elec used to be okay but now it's only really good if you duel lots of Therms.

You wanted build help, you got it. Sorry it wasn't the answer you were looking for.

WAIT AND SEE HOW IT PLAYS OUT
There were some people who got together a few nights during closed beta to test the drop rate of the shards in PvP, and (surprise!) no one got any.
  5. The in-game text interchanges ED (enhancement diversification) and DR (diminishing returns). What that means is a portion of the bonus ignores ED, though the final total will still be subject to the same DR curve. You might do a little more damage than someone without that alpha ability, but especially in light of DR there are better things to slot.
  6. Doesn't matter which folder you install to. As far as multi-core CPUs go, you can use the "-renderthread 1" flag on the CoH shortcut, though you don't really gain much from doing so.
  7. I think I accidentally paid something like 15 million for an Inanimate Carbon Rod a few nights ago, but since I was just burning inf trying to get myself under the cap so I could claim an email I don't think I'll miss it much.

Yet it's a large team melee AT-only league. I'm seeing a bit of a disconnect here.
  9. For the first year and a half or so of playing (I'd be due up for my 42 month badge next month) it was because the game was still new to me - things I hadn't done, powersets I hadn't played, so on. The next two years were mostly because of the people, but now that most of those are gone...

  11. If you are going to take powers as set bonus mules, there are far better powers to waste picks on than Choking Cloud and EM Pulse.

The /screenshot command works the same on Macs as it does on a standard Windows PC, which means it saves it to the same directory (install directory/screenshots). However, on a Mac that directory is buried inside the City of Heroes application itself, so it takes a bit of digging to get to the screenshots:

    * Right-click "City of Heroes" app and select "show package contents"
    * In the windows that opens, navigate to "Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/coh" and look for the "screenshots" folder. If you'd like, you can create an alias (shortcut) to this folder and save it someplace convenient to make accessing your screenshots easier in the future.

This is generally a better alternative than using the in-game screenshot command (just a few quick keypresses and you get an image file on your desktop immediately), though there's no way to take a screenshot without the UI unless you close all your windows first, and the in-game screenshot tool will automatically tag your image with all the characters in the screenshot, the zone it was taken in, and even the date and time it was taken.
  13. I've disliked G4 ever since they destroyed TechTV. Charter stopped carrying them in our area several years ago and I didn't miss it, to be honest.
  14. This is quite possibly the most random thread I've read in the last few days. Congratulations, OP!

  16. If I understand your setup correctly, you've got a wireless connection from your router to the laptop, and a wired connection from your laptop to the desktop. In that case, yes, the connection will still be secured since the only points the data's being transmitted wirelessly (i.e. the only places where data might be intercepted) is between the laptop and the router which I assume has the appropriate security settings.

EDIT: Also I see CO is going free-to-play. Guess this means we can have mediocre PvP for free instead of $15 a month.

    3) Any room or chances for a "new to PvP" night?
    4) What is a good starting PvP AT/power set

I'll try to make it to kickball to see what it's all about.
    1) Generally level 50
    2) Yes, and the gap between PvE and PvP builds has only widened due to power effects being different between the two
    3) Especially in a kickball, any skill level is okay. Just expect to die quite a bit, but look to it as a learning experience.
    4) Depends what role you like, though you might already have a character that could do okay if you were willing to make a second build for PvP

EDIT: Won't be able to make the KB on Saturday as I'll be out of town.
