Quote:And next time try not to derail a thread. You made your point well enough with the first few posts, there's no need to expound it further. You're only acting as a detriment to those who would like to discuss the lore and are as entitled to their enjoyment as you.Next time, make sure you folks use a spoiler warning and a non-spoiler title.
Quote:And if they can create universes... They are like gods. Aside from Black Swan, no other character does this.
Also what about all the reflections? And what is the good guy doing in the Shard? Faathim the Kind.
As for the reflections, they are presumably remnants of 1960's Paragon City, when Rularuu first invaded (and attempted to absorb and add Primal Earth to his own strenght?). In Sara Moore's TF, you learn that there have been people living in the Shard for generations, longer than that time frame should have allowed. I assume part of Paragon became a part of Rularuu and the Shard.
Quote:So, like others, I'd like to get back on topic, because this information really interests me (the Shard, not the threadjacking).
Did the Midnighters really create the Shadow Shard as a Prison Dimension, or is that misinformation of some kind?
Anyone offhand recall which story deals with the Dream Doctor (I think that's his name) and whether that tackles the topic?
Just what role the Midnighter's played in Rularuu's imprisonment is unclear. -
It sure as hell is.
Quote:Conversations evolve, when a subject starts it often ends up raising other issues, and some of those issue are often ones that can only come up in existing threads.
When you're having a conversation with your friends, do you shout them down any time the subject strays, with a cry of "No, we weren't talking about that, try and stay on topic guys!"?
Quote:And on that, where exactly does "thread jacking" begin, who makes the first "inconsiderate" comment? You've clearly just made a post that has as much relation to the original topic as the discussion on spoilers. Does that make you a "thread jacker"? Or does that title fall to me for responding to you? Or are two posts okay, but further ones are wrong?
If the original subject is interesting enough, then it will likely continue along side the "jacking" and if it doesn't then everything there was to say on it has likely been said.
If you two are so keen on the original subject, why don't you make some posts about it, rather than complaining no-one else is? Or have you exhausted your opinions on that subject already? -
I keep coming back hoping someone is actually going to discuss the Shadow Shard. If this spoiler issue is so important then start a new thread for crying out loud.

Quote:The Dream Doctor, one of the founding members of the Midnight Squad, noted Rularuu as his counterpart. But what that means exactly is a mystery.Wasn't Rularuu one of the Midnighters to begin with? I vaguely remember reading that some where.
Quote:Speaking purely for myself, these tidbits stick with me. I may not remember the precise information, but I will remember that the Shadow Shard is not natural, but was artificially made, and when the plot point comes up, I won't be as impressed.
---
As for the Shadow Shard being made by the Midnight Squad, this dates back to I12 when the Midnight Club was first introduced. The actual club zone has a scavenger hunt of sorts in it, where you click on various items and they give you background lore, some of it from the Dream Doctor, himself. That the Shadow Shard was created to trap Rularuu is mentioned there for the first time.
Personally, I feel that imagining the Shard as a physical or even metaphysical location within which a god is kept is disappointing. I've always wished they would have gone bigger and made the entire place the physical manifestation of the mind of an elder god. That's actually where "spoilers" come into play. One random Shard mission on the villain side of things makes an offhand comment that "as if you're inside the mind of a god." I don't remember which mission it was, I don't recall what it was referring to or how it was worded, but this idea has stuck in my head since then, and it has informed my mind's eye view of what the Shard is. -
Quote:My understanding is that the Shard is a part of Rularuu and his prison. Similarly, Nightstar draws her power from an entire dimension known as the Black Shroud. So it's not unprecedented. Now, I'm not sure if the lore regarding the Midnight Squad's involvement in Rularuu's imprisonment predates the Midnighter Club and universities being added, but I'm certain if was well before Maria Jenkins' arc was revamped.Doing the updated Hero's Hero arc from Maria Jenkins and in one part she says and I quote:
Was this a retcon or was it always like this?
Other dimensions are funny things. -
When you defeat civilians it drops your public opinion drops. If that reaches 0 the trial fails. There are, of course, other things in the trial that raise and lower it as well.

Quote:There's also a big difference between "This power is broken/useless..." and "This power does not function on par with similar powers".In any case, there's still a big difference between "I've never learned how to use this power well" and "This power is broken/useless/doesn't do what I want/makes me cry".
First, let's begin with the reduced area. With a 15 foot radius, Wormhole can only cover and area of 706.5 square feet.; similar powers (Flash Fire and Stalagmites) have a 25 foot radius or an area of effect of 1962.5 square feet. That's well over two and a half times the area. As a result Wormhole is more difficult to target and less likely to pick up stragglers near the edges of a mob.
Next is the problematic activation time, a full 3 seconds, compared to Stalagmites and Flashfire at 2.1 and 2.37 seconds respectively. But that alone is not the problem. The actual stun does not occur until 2.7 seconds after you begin animating the power, allowing for a good deal of return fire unless you've broken LoS. Stalagmites and Flashfire do not have this delay.
Then we come to the knockback... which is unpredictable. If a teammate has tagged the mob with an immobilize (for most sets) they'll be protected from the knockback in Wormhole. That means some will simply plop out while others are still vulnerable to being flung a good distance. Or mobs like Nemesis, in which only a select few have knockback resistance.
These are problems that are not present in similar powers. Does that mean Wormhole is useless? No, in fact, it's a staple power of Gravity. However, it doesn't function nearly as well as its kin and that fact, along with poor power order, makes Gravity as a whole suffer in terms of control. -
Quote:Well, one of the problems that I think people have with it is that success can be easily impeded by just one or two people. It becomes quite frustrating when you know what your job is and you're doing it quite well to have but your efforts are undermined by someone that simply hasn't paid attention to instructions. It will take time for some to catch on to what needs to be done. Unfortunately, the first taste is often the only taste many will take if it sours them to the experience. Why is it every time the devs introduce a TF or trial that requires a bit more coordination and thought than hitting 1234-1234-1234 people start ******** about it?
If you got a frothy or elitist league leader the problem lies with them not with the trial. There really isn't anything in this game, aside from Master runs (and even then) that needs that much of a flawless execution for it to succeed. No reason to get so worked up about it. Yes sometimes trials fail. That happens when stuff is new and people are unfamilliar with it.
MoM might have just supplanted Keyes as my favorite trial, TPN completes the top 3.
Good job devs. Keep them coming. -
Are you looking at the ingame info? What you're seeing is the base recharge of Domination. If you are looking at the ingame information, that information does not reflection the recharge time with global bonuses. Even a single 6.25% recharge bonus will shave a few seconds off of Domination's recharge.
-
I'd give my nod to Plant. Seeds of Confusion comes in earlier than other every spawn AoE controls with a shorter base recharge (only 60 seconds vs. 90 seconds for most sets). It also has a satisfying amount of damage due to Creepers and the extra damage in Roots. It can easily be paired with most any secondary though I would favor something that can multiply damage via -defense and -resist.
-
It's not so much craving the limelight as it is craving something to do... other than toss another Judgement on the fire. Sometimes a long drawn out fight you scarcely survive is more fun than steamrolling a hoard of enemies.
-
Quote:Yep. The corset from the steampunk pack was adjusted because of how badly it was clipping with some coats.Serious question, no snark intended whatsoever: have the devs ever fixed a clipping issue? Have they ever gone back over a costume part or set other than to fix the most egregious errors and bugs? I would like to think they do, but I can't recall a specific instance.

Quote:Just an FYI for anyone that gets their hopes up looking at it.Well, at least that wouldn't be an issue on a /Psi dominator eh? No Power Boost for it not to work with anyhow.
(It is super lame how trivial the psi resist is though, it could at least have been worth a damn in it's own right. 10-15% even.)
True. It is the same amount of defense as Weave. I suppose it's more accurate to say I'm not impressed with Psi Mastery for doms. World of Confusion is junk and the mez protection is kind of redundant. I'm not much of a fan of resistance armors either, but to each their own there. -
Titan Weapons: we could definitely use a tree, of some sort.
Also here's a fun hammer (and I can't wait to watch this). -
/signed.
We had a trial that was hang up for a while because a non-VIP joined the league then wouldn't speak up or quit the league. We eventually had to kick anyone that didn't have a level shift to figure out who it was. -
-
It is a poor design. Even without the mez resistance, you'd need about 20 doms or trollers capable of breaking PTOD levels of magnitude in order stack 1000 magnitude on a target. That's a pretty unlikely case unless a league decides to pursue that goal at the detriment of having a more balanced crew. Surely, there's some middle ground but they shot for an easy solution in just ruling out mezzes.

Quote:What? Because you don't have an AoE immobilize to spam during the BAF?With the exception of the Incarnate trials, which invalidate Mind control completely, you are going to be hoverblasting your way through mission after mission in relative safety fairly early on in your career.
My own experience with a mind/nrg dom has been quite different in the iTrials. Aggro free controls help shake pursuers in Lambda. With Mass Hypnosis and Total Dom and a bit of defense, I've even soloed containers and crates with just a few scratches. In Keyes, Mass Confusion is an excellent way to gain access to guarded terminals. (Confuse the entire mob and they no longer count as present.) And your controls are as valid in the UG as much as any other control sets. So aside from the BAF, Mind's controls are just as useful in the other trials. -
Saw this over on Kotaku... how very relevant. -
Quote:Link Minds is kind of meh in my book. Having a little bit of psi resist tacked on (and unenhanceable) means power boost won't work with it. That really spoiled my hopes for it.Heh, yeah. I have been considering making a something/psi/psi Dominator just for how much perma-dom, perma drain psyche, and perma link minds would lead to a trail of (high survivability) destruction and awesomeness... I just lack the motivation to make or play a dominator.
-
-
Quote:First, let's dismiss this notion that the discussion is limited to permadoms. While permadom highlights some of the disparities, the problem exists outside of realm of permadom. Two control sets that begin with a similar baseline of performance, one with a frequent Domination boosted control and one without, are going to have a performance disparity.So...
When discussing permadom'd dominators...
... who don't use Earthquake...
... who need mag 6 AOE control every spawn but clearly not to lock down multiple bosses, since elec can do that without domination...
... who are also being directly compared to other dominators...
Yeah, filing this under non-issue.
Secondly, it's not a matter of needing a mag 6 AoE control every spawn that is the issue. It's the fact that for some sets this is a possibility and for others a pipe dream. For instance, I have a perma-Earth/Fire/Ice which I frequently run through the Lambda trial. I don't need Earthquake, though I frequently use it for an extra degree of safety, because the 25 seconds it takes for Stalagmites to recharge is enough to mez the mob, destroy the crate or container, and move to the next mob. An Electric dom is going to require more tools and time to drain the mobs to reach that same level of mitigation, and be at considerably more risk in the process.
But this goes back to the question I asked in my original post:
Quote:If it's possible what other powers could benefit from this? Should it be limited to only mezzes (holds, confuses, etc.) or should other controls such as Ice Slick and Earthquake also be given a variant with additional/stronger effects? -
Earth? No. It benefits from Domination with its spawn to spawn control, and fortunately has enough other control to layer if that happens to be down. Electric? It's a good control set, but it performs pretty much the same as it does for a controller. But these two do provide a good example of the difference. Both are good control sets, but as a Dominator set Earth fairs much better.
