Quote:Maybe true- but kind of an odd way to defend wanting to time off work for a video game event.Agreed. Too many people nowadays lack any discernible trace of a "work ethic".
Quote:And to anyone saying 'well you can just get xp faster in AE' - maybe some of us would rather enjoy the game content instead of just farming our way to 50.
Devs, a lot of this would be avoided if you gave us, say, maybe a month's notice that 2XP is coming instead of 2 weeks.
And for those of you who think you're being clever by saying 'oh yeah, I'm SO SURE they moved it just to ruin your weekend!' - we KNOW that isn't the case. But thanks for the smarm. We're upset that some poor planning went into scheduling the event. Or, sorry, did I miss the notice that no negative feedback is allowed?
1) If you'd rather enjoy the game instead of just rushing through it, would double exp matter either way?
2) This announcement is them being forced to cancel it at the last minute. How does it matter how long previous to that that they announced it.
3) Oh, sorry, sarcasm fail. I didn't see anyone say you aren't allowed to post negative feedback. Of course, if something's posted on a public forum, people have a right to disagree with it publicly.
Oh guess what? Your post is public, too. Sooo, yeah, if you defend your right to post negative feedback, you're defending their right to disagree with you. -
Quote:I gotta second this. "Fixing" and improving bases doesn't necessarily mean "let us base raid!"Depends what your "actual solution" is for. If its for base raiding I suspect the number would be close to zero. If its for new base content like new beacons, Auction House interfaces, AE Interfaces, improved storage or any of the other much requested features I suspect the answer would be different.
It's one valid definition, sure, but just one of a few (many?)
Personally, I'd love to see a whole new "Lairs" system for base raiding, and fighting. Maybe something that'd let multiple supergroups share a 'lair' to defend. It could be more themed along current maps (caves, office buildings, basic lair or city designs) than the base system, which could then be taken in a totally different direction. Also, it could have bears and janitors.
In other words, I'd like to see the current system kept as-is, and something totally new done for base raiding and customizable map PVP/ PVE, assuming of course that ever becomes a priority.
And I think it's misleading to say they're adamant about not adding base content. It's more of a case of not enough time to do everything at once, and their priorities being on other equally valid ideas.
(Even though I'd love to see more focus put on base creation.) -
Quote:That task force requires eight to start. Maybe you could get Ghost Falcon to quadruple box and fill.
My first reaction to this is "Maybe je's got other non Dev friends to bring for it. That or je's plotting to bring you and 3 other forum'ers." That or Ritki monkeys.
This sounds cool, I'll have to try to be on test to watch it all unfold.

The most logical (and not coincidentally, only) thing I could think of (well other than my more logical conclusion) is that it's the player who dies, and a randomly picked PC will be permanently deleted.
Absolutely no controversy or possibility of complaints there right? No sir, ma'am.
Maybe not.
I mean.. unless we get a new PC introduced dramatically at the beginning of the TF for the sole purpose of dying at the end.
But if a death's guaranteed in the thing, how can you get the "Master of" badge for it?
Also, how soon can we start blaming the death on Emperor Cole? -
Quote:If that was the case, why wouldn't they simply be waiting until a month or less before Freedom launches before they talked about it?To me this Double Xp sounds like damage control on the part of NCsoft. When they announced Freedom, I'm only assuming they saw a large amount of subscriptions (including my 2 subs) get cancelled. With my main account's sub lapsing in a couple days, it looks to me like they're trying to keep as many active subs as possible until the F2P launch. To what end? I'm not sure. I'll be back when it's free. Cheers
And if they were doing that, the only result would be more cancellations right as Freedom launches, which would constantly be pointed to as "proof" free to pay was a mistake by the detractors. (And do you think keeping active subscriptions after Freedom is suddenly going to be less of a priority?)
This- and the "why didn't you tell us even sooner?"- seems to happen every time Double EXP is announced. "They're obviously trying to cover up / make up for a decision I didn't personally care for, rather than simply reversing the decision." Implying that they're only doing Double exp an an "apology" to the player and those who agree with his specific complaints.
This time, it's the announcement of Freedom, but I've seen it blamed on PVP revamps and "Going Rogue supposedly not going over" before, as well.
I'm guessing the next Double EXP, people will claim the "real reason" they're doing it is to "apologize" for not putting enough time into a new Halloween event.

Quote:Betting if this is implemented, at very best, you'd bet a 1 in X chance of getting them on mission complete.. And to be honest, I have a feeling X would be 25 to 50.. or higher..It's probably already been suggested somewhere, but how about some sort of Incarnate Day Job similar to Vanguard Recruit? I don't know where the log-off point would be, but the benefit would be that anyone who had unclocked their Alpha Slot would earn a single Incarnate Shard, or Incarnate Thread, or whatever upon completing any mission. Earning a random Incarnate Component would probably be considered too generous.
Even earning a shard or thread would be a small boon to those who prefer to run solo, but still want to follow the Incarnate path.
Even if it's for the 'lowest' tier Incarnate thing possible. -
Quote:So you're saying they all had an evil hive mind and Cole was doing us a favor by destroying them? Hmm.. that's an interesting theory which you've obviously come up with, GG. That's the only way to explain why they all refused to leave..Tens of thousands wouldn't refuse to leave when they saw Devouring Earth monsters rampaging throguh the plave
Although, Tyrant does have a record of this kind of behavior, with letting the DE destroy Rome, Italy while he just stood and watched
And 2.. What, you've never heard the expression "When in Rome?" :P -
Quote:Er.. they refused to leave! That's probably it.. you know how people are when you ask them to move..Couldn't Tyrant and Anti-matter have come up with a plan that didn't involve the deaths of thousands of citizens? Like, say, using people with superpowers to evacuate the people?

Quote:Wasn't this addressed by simply decreeing players would always have the ability to opt out, though? Now that you can save preferences, it's a simple matter of opting out of the ads and saving. To me real world advertisements should not have a place in a game. It breaks immersion to those that are immersion type players. Also some players play games to get away from real life.
Personally? I liked them. Barely noticed them, but when I did, it made the game feel more immersive, which made the experience more fun to me. Usually.

Quote:The name thing DOES benefit from a smaller access of pools, I would think. Obviously, if you want a generic name, free players not having the option to take it means there are less people who can get the generic name before you do.We don't need a new server. We have too many as it is.
.............
Now, obviously, this isn't the only thing people can use it for. It's a new server, so some names may (probably won't, but may) be available there when they're taken everywhere else.
"Generic," in this case, being used for any name which someone has already thought of before you. Which seems like a harsh but fair way to describe it to me.

I just assumed it was sarcasm, personally. Especially with his forum avatar. Go figure.

Quote:Ohhh, so I'm not the only one who thinks we're converting to a 9.99 a minute dial up only 1-900 number?!Since he included the phrase, "when I transition to VIP," it is quite obvious they intend to raise the subscription fee the month before Freedom launches...
I am?
Oh, nevermind.. they don't want a mature / AO rating.. :P -
Quote:I know this's a little later on, but since they added "leagues" for a more "unlimited" number of players- and since the feature isn't talked about or expanded anymore, I'm guessing dev lack of interest in the issue is more likely to be the reason we never get it, which is a shame, since there's some pretty cool ideas on this thread.I think the fact that people would automatically equate Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne to these Day Jobs is the very reason we DON'T have them in this game. This game already struggles with not allowing too many things which would make it far too easy to make clones of big name superheroes owned by other companies. City of Heroes was even sued by Marvel some years ago over related issues such as this.
Thanks to IP infringement concerns things that are too comic book "ironic" will probably never happen here. *shrugs*
Then again.. a new zone or two would mean the possibility of another day job or two, right?!

Quote:They understand that there will be limitations to a Premium subscription--but not getting to play a Controller in seven years was not on the original CoH box.
They're confused and concerned, and asking questions. The very least we can do is be respectful of their questions. You're bringing the community down, man.
Why do people keep repeating this like it's a fact? The boxes said, "Subscription required" right?
That means, "If you quit after seven years, you won't be able to play. At all."
That means you wouldn't be able to play a controller you controlled seven years (or twenty or any number of years) after you stopped subscribing.
To me, that's the annoying part; it implies you were somehow promised if the game added a free to play subscription seven years later, you'd get full and equal access to all of the AT's you'd unlocked.
Which you still do.. as long as you keep up your subscription (like before). You just have other options now, the worst of which are partial access.
Of course, the previous Dev and community rep posts, seem to have ruled this a moot point, stating someone that's been around 7 years is pretty much guaranteed to have already unlocked the AT's. -
Quote:A really weird scenario entered my mind.Ok, still some confusion, I'll try and clear up some questions:
Currently, in this scenario you will be able to reassign your slots, but ONLY on the same server you assigned them to when you were Premium.
*A free player starts playing and, through sheer lack of will, ends up buying 34 slots on a single slot 'cause they just happen to have an inexplicable love for Virtue.. (I guess this could apply to other servers, too.)
* They then decide they want to upgrade the game to Pro.. er.. to VIP so they can tell the world how much they love this free to play game. And never once complain about any changes made to the game. (I did say this was a hypothetical situation right?)
Normally, that would give them access to ten extra slots on that server, right? But that'd put them past thirty six, meaning they wouldn't actually see an increase on that one, single server at all?
Or would they get a 'spillover' set of tokens in order to use on other servers?
Or do their server slots translate back into points somehow?
Unless I'm totally misunderstanding something.. I mean, I haven't figured out why someone would do that, but it should be theoretically possible right? -
-
Quote:My guess has always been it's the fact with COV you didn't 'get' any server tokens at all. Rather, you got four new slots *per server* which were automatically unlocked. For US players, that's a total of 32 extra character slots total. Just like how COH gave you the first eight slots. While I get the fact that having purchased Going Rogue would allow 2 additional character slots for Premium, what about other items that have added slots? IE COV at launch added 4 slots to the then current 8 character per server limit. granted that was to all servers. Just to refresh those that may be scratching their head, COH had 8 character slots till COV launched. A "Perk" to purchasing COV and adding it to a COH account was the 4 additional character slots. Besides the addition of Villains, Bases, PVP Zones and so on.
I may be splitting hairs but I think its a valid question.
Going Rogue, however, gave you two actual server tokens, which you could use on any server... I'm guessing they see COV's extra slots as being more akin to the original eight you got.
So I dunno, I guess you could think of it as getting one slot unlock key for COH and one for COV? -
Quote:Waiit a minute, something's suspicious. They don't take cash payments and I'm pretty sure their coffers are kept private! :PWell, well, such a hullabaloo I've not seen since ED en masse ragequits and forum rantages...
But I couldn't care less.
What I want to know, is, will I finally get what I've wanted for this game since day One of Beta? Here's my list:
Light Blaster Powerset ala Legacy Chain, et al
Laser, pulsar, disruptor firearm Powerset
Magic graphics for current powers (examples provided on request)
Water Blaster Powerset
Underwater Zone, aka Atlantis
Outerspace, durn it! (including Moonbase)
Elemental effects on melee weapons
Emanation Point customization (where's my fiery eyeblast!)
... short list. ... new ways of developing the game... any of this now feasible? ... craziness ... new system ... my cash flowing.
On a slightly more serious note, I decided not long before Going Rogue was set to come out, after we knew most of it, that I was going to predict the coming storm would be the basis for the next expansion pack, and it'd be the perfect place to include the underwater and/ or space zones. The other ideas of yours (the ones I quoted) would fit in perfectly with it.
In light of Positron's recent comment, I'm thinking more future space base and '20's Paragon City, actually.
That said, I have a weird feeling none of them are happening anytime soon. I do like the idea of being able to select more ways of 'firing' a blast type power at someone.

Quote:"umm" <--- Really annoying. Almost obnoxiously so. Are you trying to meditate online, or just trying to be condescending?Umm not exactly, you're subscribing to the game. Unless you are one of the people who hasn't logged on in years, I don't want *your* names.
2) Why is this problem being treated as serious? Add a 2 to the end of the name you want; problem closed. It's done in comicbooks all the time. The third Robin isn't suddenly considered "The first Robin" because the other two guys haven't used the name in a while.
You talk about "classic" super hero names, but that's exactly the naming scheme actual comicbooks tend to use when they do databases of heroes. If they're the second hero to use the name, a 2 or II is tacked onto their name in the listing. I've yet to see why that would work here; if people refer to you as Dave 34, just explain to them "It's just Dave." Or I guess if you want to be rude, tell 'em, "Ummmmm it's Dave, you twit!"
It seems much simpler to tack on an optional number than to add global names to the end of your name.
That's the solution I'd rather see; when you register a name that's already "taken," offer an "official" number marker. If the name's been taken twice, it'd offer a (III) behind the name (Or your global name, so you can choose.) Show the thing in parenthesis and make it slightly off color to make it obvious it isn't a part of the official name.
Yes, you'd still have to deal with the fact that people will realize that you weren't the first person on the game to think of the name. But let's be honest - you actually weren't.
