Since the last significant Base alteration. I'm beginning to wonder if there's a policy at Paragon Studios that requires all employees to adamntly refuse to work on Bases at all.

I don't even have a specific suggestion anymore. Just anything. Anything at all.

news from comic con suggests that they do have something planned for bases but its not gonna be in i21 (other than those comments they are always mentioning they cannot comment at this time)

i believe they do have stuff in the works, but we are unlikely to see it till i22 or later

From what I have gathered, I think they have been afraid of doing anything in fear of breaking the thousands of bases out there. I know they have looked at bases on a few occasions, but they got put on the back-burner due to the amount of work required just for art assets (and for fear of breaking everything).

The irony being that most of those bases that would be broken are taking advantage of the relaxing of restrictions which happened when the Devs said, "We're not going to get around to properly fixing bases any time soon; so here, go nuts with stacking and positioning."

And people did, and now the tide-you-over palliative is one more thing in the way, another strike against properly fixing bases.

I wonder how many of those people with fancy yet illegal bases would be willing to have them wiped and start over in return for an actual solution, or if the time for that has (long) passed.

I'd say it's more a strike against base raiding ever returning (on top of the general PVP problems.)

Get the bases wiped? Don't think, given base storage, that that'd go over well at all.

Simple solution to that is to make personal storage be independent of SGs and/or bases. Put a vault in some building in each zone, problem solved.

Not a problem here. It's not like I can't simply take the stuff I have stored in my base an email it to my other characters. SG storage doesn't come remotely close to what we can store on an account using alts as storage mules.

My only concern is that I hope the devs would consider compensating Super Leaders with pre-existing bases that get wiped so they don't have to start from scratch with the new system.

Personally I am hoping that, once Freedom goes live, there is a purchasable "Super Group Re-Name Token" good for one re-name of a SG. That would be just grand!

That aside, yes, I believe they painted themselves into a corner. To improve on a system like the base editor, I gotta something (if not everything) would have to be taken away in order to move forward. Here's hoping I'm wrong...

If it comes down to replacing the current base system with a new one the devs are in the unenviable position where no matter what they do some players will end up getting screwed.

There simply isn't any way that they can make sure everyone is notified and takes the time to get their bases in order for when the switch occurs. There will always be someone returning and pitching a fit because their base is gone with all it's stuff.

Heck, we're still seeing people return and getting upset because they got auto demoted from their SG leadership and the new SL kicked them for inactivity.

It's possible they could find a solution by grandfathering in the stacking and positioning of base pieces so existing bases can stay but have the benefit of the new features of the theoretical base system. The new system could simulate, replicate or improve on stacking and positioning to shape real rooms and platforms inside rooms and do so with a real UI on it, instead of precariously stacking blocks and hoping you aligned them perfectly and nothing gets stuck.

I'm hoping the new bases have multiple floors, even if it's just an upper level, main level and basement level.

Depends what your "actual solution" is for. If its for base raiding I suspect the number would be close to zero. If its for new base content like new beacons, Auction House interfaces, AE Interfaces, improved storage or any of the other much requested features I suspect the answer would be different.

Perhaps they could introduce a new Plot type and use that to control whether or not old rules or new rules were enforced.

However I only think they need to introduce "new rules" if they are attempting to re-introduce base raiding. So perhaps just a "Base Raiding" flag would be good enough.

Still, I am not getting excited. I've been away from the game for two years and everything seems different. Except bases

I gotta second this. "Fixing" and improving bases doesn't necessarily mean "let us base raid!"

It's one valid definition, sure, but just one of a few (many?)

Personally, I'd love to see a whole new "Lairs" system for base raiding, and fighting. Maybe something that'd let multiple supergroups share a 'lair' to defend. It could be more themed along current maps (caves, office buildings, basic lair or city designs) than the base system, which could then be taken in a totally different direction. Also, it could have bears and janitors.

In other words, I'd like to see the current system kept as-is, and something totally new done for base raiding and customizable map PVP/ PVE, assuming of course that ever becomes a priority.

And I think it's misleading to say they're adamant about not adding base content. It's more of a case of not enough time to do everything at once, and their priorities being on other equally valid ideas.

(Even though I'd love to see more focus put on base creation.)

Still hate the visit Winscott mission- make it dropable, have it give actual exp or remove it altogether. PS- Down knows who you are.

Personally, I think they should just admit it, that base raiding will never work the way they wanted it to, and give up on it. Then just give us the building blocks we need to finally do up our bases the way we want to.

Again, I go back to my anology of the RPG GM who put together a complex plot with intrigate clues and red herrings...and his players circumvent the entire plot, figure out the mystery and then go on to something else, leaving the poor GM to pout and moap about how "They didn't play it the way I wanted to play it."

The devs need to finally realize that there are things in this game that they thought we would use one way, yet have started using another way, and not try and force us back into playing the way they intended it to be played.
