Quote:... I thought you WERE the Powers that Be...Weren't you a Wizard in EQ? I remember you from Graffe's Wizards forums, in any case.
People saying, "This choice should be something in the options menu" I neither agree nor disagree on this. That's for the UI team to decide, not me. In any case, that particular task is not one that I can undertake, so telling me doesn't really help beyond my passing it along to the powers that be.
actually, in all seriousness, given that I don't want the entire dev team to plan revenge on me, is there any way that we can talk to somebody on the UI team directly?
Or, maybe I should phrase it this way:
Is there a better way for us to tell the UI team what changes would be appreciated within the structure of the game. -
Quote:gonna be more difficult than that.I believe you're going to need to set CoH and all it's shortcuts to run as Administrator. You can do this by opening the properties of the item and checking that option on the compatibility tab. Alternatively, you can download the intaller from the CoH site and install via the web. That will get you a fully patched version and it should set all permissions and whatnot as required for it to run.
NT5 and NT6 do not share the same user permission's layout- NT5 stores it's information in C:\documents and settings\(user name)
- NT6 stores it's information in C:\users
Unfortunately Earth Fury: what I suspect is happening is this. When you were on NT5 you installed the game as an Administrator account there.
Now that you are under NT6, your default account is not granted administrator rights. NT6 can read the install data and know that the original files you copied over came from an account with Admin rights: which is why it asked you for the administrator login.
Unfortantly: to solve this issue, it's going to be a bit complex.
You'll need to completely delete the existing- C:\Program files\ location install
- C:/Documents and Settings/(Username)/Local Settings/Application Data/NCSoft folder
- C:/Users/(username)/AppData/Local/NCSoft
After getting rid of these traces you should be able to reinstall City of Heroes using the installer located within: https://secure.ncsoft.com/cgi-bin/accountManagement.pl -

Quote:... The ATi Xpress 200 is based on the Radeon x300 series.Well, don't give up hope yet Mayhem. I was able to get an ATI Xpress 200 on board video running with COH last night, with Win 7 Ult (64).
That's part of the DX9 series of cards that ATi retired in 2009.
I'm actually amazed that you got the the 9-3 Vista driver to install and run under Win7's DX11 platform. Most of the time the Dx11 platform updates cause problems with DX9 cards. Makes me think you are pressing a software rendering mode rather than a hardware accelerated mode.
Bzzt.Quote:It took a lot of searching for the right Driver, but I got it working. I'm almost positive your card came out later than the Onboard one I have did.
The Mobility 7800 was a "workstation" version of the 7500.
The Radeon 7500 launched in 2001 / 2002
The x300 launched in 2004, as well as the Xpress 200.
You didn't read anything else I wrote did you.Quote:Mind you, You might have to turn everything waaay down, But at least you can get on.

Based off a DX7 chipset. Retired in 2006. Was not supported to begin with.

let me make this a little bit more clearer.
I've got a Radeon 7500 AIW
City. Of. Heroes. Is. Not. Compatible. With. The. Original. Radeon. Cards.
This probably includes all variations of the original Radeon series, which includes the 7800.
I can't say that the 7800 won't work at all because:- A: I don't actually have one
- B: it wasn't ever supported in the original ATi consumer driver release to begin with
- C: it has it's own driver update schedule as part of the FireGL line, so while ATi might have canned the non-commercial chip, the laptop vendor would have been free to continue producing their own updates, and the FireGL team could have also written further updates. Granted, no further updates EXIST... but still.
- D: it was never supported in the unified Catalyst / FireGL driver releases.

Base Raiding never took off to begin with in it's original form. Very few supergroups could afford the prestige loss in allowing their bases to be trashed in a full on raid, and yes, that was the original design where an opponent destroying an object like a teleporter or a salvage rack would mean the complete and utter loss of that object, as well as anything that object contained.
One of the developers, I believe, Castle, mentioned base raiding might make a return, but it's probably going to be in a drastically different form than was originally remembered. Keep in mind that the point of base raiding was to obtain Items Of Power held by opposing Supergroups. With the demise of the Cathedral of Pain trial, and the removal of Items of Power from the game, the original reasons for base raiding have largely dissapeared. Even if CoP were to be re-introduced, it would likely be as an Ouroborus accessed trial, similar to how the old Positron Task Force is currently still exposed to the game.
The common theory on Base Raiding, as it stands, is that Base Raiding will return as a Non-PvP extension of Mission Architecture. Supposedly, the rumor states that you'll be able to import your SG base as an A.E. map: thus giving players the abilities to see how well their tower-defense setups work, as well as answering the calls for map customization in A.E. -

no: http://zerias.blogspot.com/2010/05/d...elee-tank.html
EM as a set is fine.
Comboed with Willpower... not so much depending on what you want to do.
If you are trying to team tank: Willpower's already light on taunt aura, and you really need a couple of AOE's to make up for the lack of native ability to build aggro and keep fury fueled. Energy Melee is, I think I'm right in saying off the top of my head, the only power set with a single AOE power. You'll need to work the taunt to hold aggro.
If you are trying to solo / off tank / scrap: It's probably a fairly decent combo. Willpower gives you massive surivability, and you can make most Elite Bosses whimper in pain from EM.
Also: don't forget to work your HP cap. It's the same as a tank, and you get massive regen from it. -
Quote:The Engine Does Not Work Like That<--Not getting it.
Why not just open character costume creation for each variation of thug? Their animation stays same, they do the same thing, they just LOOK different.
That's what they did for Weapons customization. You might be swinging a Mace, but it looks like a shovel, etc.
First, that is not what they did with Weapons Customization.
Second: The lack of coloring on Mastermind's was actually demonstrated I want to say at Hero Con. One of the developers showed off coloring Mastermind's using the same coloring scheme exposed to the rest of the available power custimizations. The MasterMind pets took on the same two toned appearence as color shifted Phantom Army / Phantasm.
The basic problem is that Mastermind's use the same Costume Overlay tech that is found in sets like Stone Armor's Granite, and the Kheldian Dwarf / Nova forms.
The developers can basically set a static costume mesh and gemoetry in place of an in-game avatar, and swap that mesh and geometry out at will. Exposing the costume-overlay tech to the end user to be customizable requires a large amount of engine code work, as well as the already mentioned massive changes to the User Interface to expose each potential costume overlay separately. -
okay. Slow down the reclaiming then. You probably are catching system lag then.

are you trying to transfer from Hero to Villains, or from Villains to Heros?
Only Heros can claim items from Heroes.
Only Villains can claim items from Villains. -
Quote:Modded drivers wouldn't work.Another thing to try, if you have the inclination, is to use modded drivers and see if that helps.
I've done this using LaptopVideo2Go.com for my older Dell D800 lappy and it at least gets me into the game. Other issues prevent anything worthwhile being done unless I run with all settings at lowest range, but that's caused by the laptop's other hardware.
Your laptop may find itself in the same situation after all, but you won't know if you don't try, right?
HardwareHeaven.com does the same thing for ATI cards.
I'm not going to propose the OmegaDrivers since they don't allow the use of recent drivers modded for older cards. The 7000 series cards were dropped from the Catalyst 6.6 drivers and up.
A: this card was never actually supported in the pre-Catalyst release. Back then ATi had seperate drivers for FireGL and Radeon cards.
B: this card was never actually supported by the game: The graphics engine introduced in I17 knocked out support for older graphics chips. The game is making calls that are expected in levels of OpenGL that the original Radeon series isn't capable of making, nor was there ever a software driver written to handle non-gpu calls (as there is with the Intel cards with similar levels of support). -

Quote:yeah... this pretty much sums up what I was going to say.Your asking people to comment on a multi billion dollar build that is about as effective as a mid twenties corruptor with minimal SO slotting. If you want positive feedback, you gotta give people an idea of what you are trying to achieve.
If you REALLY want a petless MM, at least make it a DS so you have the whips. Though you will still probly get kicked from every team you try to join.
A mastermind doesn't have the hitpoints, damage, buffs, or debuffs of a corruptor. Going Petless is pretty much hoisting a flag with "Lord Recluse Rules!" printed on it and running through Atlas Park City Hall. There are dumber things you could do in the game, but not many.
I highlighted the central problem with your opening post. There is no such thing as a good no pets build. All MasterMind no-pets builds are junk.Quote:I'm trying to work up a good no pets build for my second build. -
Quote:In regards to Sony:I would venture a guess and say 'then the entire industry is wrong along with him/her'. That is, unless you think there's a magic release that Mythic can produce that would automagically make DAoC as popular (or more popular) than it was say, 6 years or so ago (or rather, just prior to Trials of Atlantis). I'm sure SOE would pay you big dollars if you could tell them of something they could do to give their flaccid flagship a rebirth of sorts.
QUIT TRYING TO COPY WOW
And don't get me started on SWG or Planetside. -
... I hearby request that Castle resume tinkering with Hoverboards.
-
that pretty much describes the PvP zones on all servers...

Quote:We could probably sell the devs on hoverboards.Still not sure whether this is the thread to put it into, but I won't rest until I can drive motorcycles for superspeed and hoverboards for flight!
Also, being able to shoot sonic attacks out of a guitar.
But you don't want me to pull out the massive repost torpedoing Vehicles.
Guitar's are not likely either. The Devs have taken a hardline against joke weapons in the past. -
Quote:Um. Right, Right Completely..Well, that doesn't sound like WAI.
I certainly can't run Shader Quality High, but I can turn on most of the UM options on low/medium. So if I want to run ANY UM features, I *have* to run Shader Quality High? Not right. Not right at all.
Ultra Mode requires the OpenGL 3.0 shaders, which are "High" quality. -

... next time... just read the instructions in this thread: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=219502
We don't need the flood of useless information. CPUZ and GPUZ give us 99% of the information we need.
Anyway's, this stongly sounds like you've unseated something in your computer. Make sure are cards are plugged in all the way, and all connectors are firmly fastened. -
Quote:Those pictures are not official. They are fan made renders. So they've released pictures of the new costumes for the Cap and Thor:

I really miss cap's mask winglets. He looks a bit like a bullethead without them. >.< (To me, anyway.)

Sam: as Blaster Manip sets produce higher levels they are more about GETTING OUT OF MELEE RANGE and away from foes.
Energy Manip, for example, gets- Stun: stuns enemies
- Power Boost: ups damage / effects
- Boost Range: attack from a further distance
- Total Focus: Second stun: get away from melee
Electric Manip gets:- Lightning Clap: knockback and stun
- Thunderstrike: Knockback and Stun
- Power Sink: recover endurance / survival
- Shocking Grasp: Hold / debuff
Fire Manip gets:- Consume: End recovery / survival
- Burn: Massive Fear
- Hot Feet: Slow + Fear
Ice Manip gets:- Ice Patch: knockdown / debuff
- Shiver: slow debuff
- Freezing Touch: Slow / Hold
- Frozen Aura: Sleep
Mental Manip gets:- Drain Psyche: Debuff / Survival
- World Of Confusion: Confusion
- Scare: fear
- Pyschic Shockwave: Stun
Even Devices largely fits this theme of using status effects to get away from the fight.- Cloaking Device: it's a stealth
- Trip Mine: Knockback / Keep away
- Time Bomb: Knockback / get away
Yes. The damage aura's that do nothing else need to be revisited, but because of the cottage rule, likely nothing will be done with them. Just an easy power to skip.
In the same way, Device's Tier 9 doesn't quite fit the form, mostly due to the less than aggressive behavior of pets in the game. Still, gun drone will help take down a hord of enemies that are summoned over traps and into a caltrops field.
What actually amazes me is how few players actually grasp the higher level mechanics of the blaster's set, that it's about getting away from the melee fight and back into blasting range. -
possible interpretation. Hadn't thought of it that way.
-
Quote:ID is a much better example of this.Speed Boost kills Kinetics for me. I have no no desire to reapply a buff to 7 people every 90 seconds but it's such a strong buff that if I skipped it (or took it and didn't use it) I'd feel like I was shorting my teammates
I've lost count of kins that don't take one of the best temp buffs in the game because it's got such a short timer. -
*calls up Barney and asks for tips on building a Sackthingy Tracker, then calls up Willie and gets advice on how to best knock Sackthingy's out, then calls up Cinnamon and gets advice on how to best apply makeup to Sackthingys, then calls up Rollin Hand and gets instructions on how to dress up and impersonate Sackthingy's*
... the problem is... if I call Dan for advice on how to implement the plan, the target will likely end up dead. If I call Jim for advice, the sackthingy will be placed in the hands of the local laws enforcements.

lmao
