No pets bots/therm

GhoulSlayer

I'm trying to work up a good no pets build for my second build. This is definitely a rough draft. I want to move around alot of these slots. This is mainly to show you guys which powers and enhancements I have in mind. If someone could take this build and optimize the slotting that would be helpful and very much appreciated. I'm a little flexible on the powers but I definitely don't want cauterize. I hate single target heals. Thanks.

Edit: As you can see from my slotting preferences I like to use procs.

Bluntly, I don't know where to begin on how horrid that build is...

I'm not saying this because there are no pets as you said it was a second build. I'm hoping your main set has its pets.

Your slotting seems like you're gunning for HP and regen, but w/ MMs having low hps that seems almost futile. You only gain 171.7 points of hp from all this, which isn't much when you have no mitigation. Some things are over slotted, some things are under slotted. Also purples are running extremely high on the market atm, assuming you can afford them. I personally wouldn't spend the money on this build, I'm curious to see your build w/ pets.

Hmmmm, didn't I say that this was a rough draft?

I worked on it a little to add some resistance and defense. I'm still not sure this is the build that I want but I think it's much better than the first one.

Well, to be honest a corruptor would have greater buffs and do more damage than the build you have. One problem with this build would be all the redraw animations that you will encounter.

For better mileage, I'd recommend deleting this one and rolling a Corruptor.

Your asking people to comment on a multi billion dollar build that is about as effective as a mid twenties corruptor with minimal SO slotting. If you want positive feedback, you gotta give people an idea of what you are trying to achieve.

If you REALLY want a petless MM, at least make it a DS so you have the whips. Though you will still probly get kicked from every team you try to join.

yeah... this pretty much sums up what I was going to say.

A mastermind doesn't have the hitpoints, damage, buffs, or debuffs of a corruptor. Going Petless is pretty much hoisting a flag with "Lord Recluse Rules!" printed on it and running through Atlas Park City Hall. There are dumber things you could do in the game, but not many.

I highlighted the central problem with your opening post. There is no such thing as a good no pets build. All MasterMind no-pets builds are junk.

I guarantee the OP only wants a petelss Bot because he wants an energy rifle power set and this is how he's gonna fulfill his concept.

And some of you may already be aware of what I think of concept builds.

This thread brings back memories of pethless Thugs who dreamed of their Gunkata blasters/corruptors...oops we have dual pistols now.

Coiincidence that people no longer ask for petless Thugs builds???

Your honor,

the prosecution rests.

Don't ask us to optimize a petless build. It's a waste of our time and yours.

Your main goal has to be to get some sort of defense cap. Either type or positional. Try if you can for either Ranged Positional or Smashing Lethal type.

Once you get that the rest does not matter. But look at the build after you have that cap and see if it is of any use to someone or yourself as a solo build.

I'm not too sharp on thermal atm without looking at the power set a bit in mids to get a feel for it.

Sadly Traps is pretty much the only set I can say clearly can be done petless because you have the ability to get to Defense cap AND you have a decent attack of Trip Mine which you could literally just cycle over and over again if your defense cap is high enough.

So you would have to be set up for Defense cap and good healing assuming thermal is built for that.

I'm confused by your choice to six-slot shields, as you'll probably be soloing on this build. Also, if you can afford Ragnaroks you have a lot of flexibility about what sets to choose, and you can definitely use the slots in your shields elsewhere. Three endurance reducers into assault can be replaced by one slot, and a single endurance reducer in a power that will burn more endurance (ie: an attack) will save you far more in endurance than the extra two endurance reducers in assault ever could. Put those two slots elsewhere.

FWIW, plainguy's advice about capping defense seems sound. And, it would be a good idea to six-slot your attacks using slots you would pull out of a variety of other powers, because your rifle will be your "lifeline" when petless.

Also great advice. I'll take both of these factors into consideration. Thank you.

Ummm, no. I just want a 2nd build to tool around with when I'm in need of a challenge but I want it to be as good as it can get. I really don't get why all the hate. You were the least hateful of the above posters but you have no idea what I'm thinking. All I asked for was a little advice and instead I get verbally *****.

After getting home I pulled up your build and was playing around with it. Here are some of the issues and some observations.

1. Simply do you really have that kind of infamy to be playing around with ? Or are you just putting together a build regardless of cost ? Some of those IO's are very expensive, even if your just placing a bid and waiting for that bid to come. Your talking around 200 million for some IOs you listed.

2. The use of inventions is to obtain something from the set bonuses. Yes Proc's can be nice in certain things. But not everything is worth slotting with Inventions. Some are better off being served by slotting with regular defense or heal IOs. Slotting Maneuvers with Defense buff sometimes is better then using some set like luck of the gambler.

In your build it seems you went for shiny. It looked shiny and expensive, so it must be good. Sadly its not always true. Personally I do not think Purples sets are worth much, unless you have everything else covered. So yes if a power is not being used to help you towards gaining the defense cap then it would be fine to slot it with some purple set for some higher recharge, hp, damage buff.

3. After looking over Thermal a bit I can say many of the powers are group friendly. But you might have issues getting a group because of the pet-less issue. So if you start taking away the powers for groups only. Your down to 3 powers from thermal and 3 from Robots. You would have to take sets like fitness, fighting, Speed, Leaping and leviathan Mastery. You should be able to cover Positional Range and Energy and Negative Defense Caps. AOE would be close behind. I can get you to Smashing Lethal Defense cap, which would probably be better since most mobs do that type of DPS. Just would be a bit more work and taking Mace Mastery for Scorpion shield.

The build would have to be worked to obtain Defense caps as Early as possible. Once you get that dying less will make it not much of a struggle. Otherwise if you go the route of DPS first, leveling will be painful.

4. End results - Personally I think Traps is the be all end all atm. Simply if you look at traps compared to Thermal. You can use EVERY Power in traps. Traps has protection, Healing, DPS, Debuffs, Minor hold ( Poison trap ). Where as you would have attacks like whirlwind, boxing, Kick and flurry.

I had my heart set on making a Demon summoning ( for the whip ) Traps toon. But my concept atm is not fleshing out with the look I want. Nutshell I can't get the right costume I would like. So I am considering Pet-less Robot Traps. But I will probably go the route of 50s full Robot Traps swap IOs from my Robot FF and use the 2nd build for a petless build.

So if you really have the game money to play around with I would MM / Traps. Once you hit defense cap and have trip mines it will pretty much all you will be doing anyways. Basically you will be walking up to a bunch of mobs and dropping a trip mine as they swing and miss.

Think about what your really looking to do and I am willing to help you out with some ideas and tweaking up the builds.

Thank you for being so helpful. The toon in question is already a lvl 50 and my main on virtue. I'm almost done slotting his first build and I thought going petless for the second build would be a fun experiment to try out. I don't have the infamy to create a 2nd build yet. I just wanted to get the slots set first. I plan to do his 2nd build the same way I'm doing his first build. First, I IO him then I add the set IOs 1 at a time. I have all the time in the world to do this and I don't care how long it takes. I just want the best possible build under the circumstances.

This is exactly what I wanted someone to do. Thank you so much. One question though, why did you take assault rather than tactics?

Posted

Assault adds damage. As long as you can hit stuff more to hit isn't helping you in any way.

Don't hate Cauterize for being single-target.

(Hate it for requiring the single target be someone other than yourself.)

Add me to the list of people confused at trying to optimize a petless build (completely conflicting goals?), but I certainly won't kick one from a team if they've got good buff/debuff mojo. Honestly, most PuGs, I wish I had a teammate with Melt Armor up every spawn rather than moar fugly demons.

That said, do make sure you're in touch with your inner defender, because buff/debuffs will be key to both teaming and soloing.

Have you thought about rolling /storm instead of /thermal? Since you're already treading into 50% annoys team, 50% surprisingly good support territory. I rolled a whip/stormy last month, good times, plays like a kinky version of my storm defender, though needs more slotting to reach the broken, er I mean, really good, debuff values I'm used to.

The OP mentioned he has a 50 thermal Robot. He is just looking for a 2nd petless build for it. I would guess being on Virtue where he is from it would be for Roleplay reasons.

Other then that some people do it because they can. Everyone is allowed to do what they wish with there account.

As long as people are polite and semi civil I see no reason why if you know not to help someone out. The OP was trying. It is obvious he / she is still learning about IOs and what they are there for. Hopefully the OP will see and learn something about how and why IOs where placed and maybe one day pass along some insight and knowledge to another player.

I am sure the Devs didn't expect to see what they do today with the AE farms. I am pretty sure that was the last thing they expected or wanted
