I heard rumors of this, is it true? I wanna customize my Thugs so bad

I don't really see how..

My pet peeve is people who refuse to acknowledge it when I tell them my character has unlimited power. If I rp attack them they are of course disintegrated beyond the ability of any hospital or magic to restore. Yet despite this they refuse to delete their characters and still keep playing them as if nothing happened. ~Mandu, 07-16-2010

As well as "we want to do it, though".

Lets see shall we?

Basic models, Tier 1 pet
- Basic Model plus upgrade 1
- Basic Model plus upgrade 2
- Basic Model plus upgrades 1 and 2

Basic models, Tier 2 pet
- Basic Model, plus upgrade 1
- Basic Model, plus upgrade 2
- Basic Model, plus upgrade 1 and 2

Basic model, Tier 3 pet
- Basic Model, plus upgrade 1
- Basic Model, plus upgrade 2
- Basic Model, plus upgrade 1 and 2

Thats 9 just for each set as they are now.

Now, what level of customisation do they do? Do they make more Options for the sets? So for Robots you could have Standard, Steampunk, Retro-tech, Arcane and Bio-tech? That would be 36 new alterations, all of them set models.

Or would they give us per critter customisation? That would be triple, maybe quadruple the work.

So, yes, its a lot of work. Do we want it? Yes. Do the Devs want to give us it? By all accounts, yes. Will it happen? We dont know. Its as simple as that.

Don't forget Thugs and Mercenaries, which have an alternate model for their 3rd T1 pet.

Also: Demon Summoning can customize the colors of their Hellfire T1 and T2 pets. The Fire and Cold T1s and the Fire T2 can't be customized, and the T3 can't be customized.

Hence why on Tier 1 and 2 I said models, not model

<--Not getting it.

Why not just open character costume creation for each variation of thug? Their animation stays same, they do the same thing, they just LOOK different.

That's what they did for Weapons customization. You might be swinging a Mace, but it looks like a shovel, etc.

It's not that simple. Before weapons customization, the game just told players 'Ashtoreth is a War Mace Tanker'. Now, the game has to tell everyone around you 'Ashtoreth is a War Mace Tanker who is using a bat'.

Similarly, Mastermind pets send data saying 'I'm model #1682'. Making them fully customizable would require sending the same amount of data as a real player. And that's just scratching the surface of what's required for pet customization.

Also Standard Code Rant applies. A lot of things that are easy to describe but a lot harder to do in practice. Additionally some things that are easy to implement when you first write a program are a lot harder to implement later on if you didn't put the basic framework in place initially (the issues with HOs are a good example of that).

Of course you don't, because you don't know all the stuff it entails. I'm to the point where I assume "it's harder than it seems" unless I KNOW better.

Dec out.

I agreed. However I think they are probably working on it as we speak.

If you are going to assume anything (and one pretty much has to about a lot of things) than this is probably one of the safer ones to come by.

The Engine Does Not Work Like That

First, that is not what they did with Weapons Customization.

Second: The lack of coloring on Mastermind's was actually demonstrated I want to say at Hero Con. One of the developers showed off coloring Mastermind's using the same coloring scheme exposed to the rest of the available power custimizations. The MasterMind pets took on the same two toned appearence as color shifted Phantom Army / Phantasm.

The basic problem is that Mastermind's use the same Costume Overlay tech that is found in sets like Stone Armor's Granite, and the Kheldian Dwarf / Nova forms.

The developers can basically set a static costume mesh and gemoetry in place of an in-game avatar, and swap that mesh and geometry out at will. Exposing the costume-overlay tech to the end user to be customizable requires a large amount of engine code work, as well as the already mentioned massive changes to the User Interface to expose each potential costume overlay separately.
