  1. Oh, on topic: I'm pretty sure all of the devs have "NCSoft_" in their names, so there's no actual mistaking you for an actual employee of Paragon Studios. I think the chance you'll be generic'd or something is quite remote.

Hah! That was you? We teamed together on a DFB on Champ, along with "Staph Infection." Funny stuff.

I don't recall "two free power sets per year" either. I suspect that someone is misremembering.

My feeling is we weren't promised all free power sets for VIPs, and I assume that there was something announced to that effect. However, VIPs *do* get free points each month. So if you are clever, you save those points and always have about 800 points (only two months worth) on hand, so you can just buy any new power sets with your free points.

This is a good point and it's definitely my impression that we are getting new power sets much faster now. Extra gaming dollars mean extra development and goodies. There's ain't no other way.

    How is Staff?

Mine's straight and about six feet long.
  5. Dunno, if you left the computer on, maybe it messed up when you weren't watching?

I'd just start the game. You can go to the character creator, tutorial and AP/Mercy, so that will get you started, and the game should continue to download in the background.
  6. I need just the Avatar Assassin for UGT, but I'll show up with bubbles and Radial Clarion for everybody.

  8. My CoH system is a mid-range laptop. It runs fine. I don't have realistic access to the high end graphic settings (I can play on the highest settings, but the frame rates are really low). For mid settings it works great. And the laptop is more convenient in that I can take it places easily if I need to, and I can put it away in a desk drawer too, to reclaim space on desk too.

That's not what happened to me when my subscription briefly lapsed a couple of months ago. All my characters stayed locked, including the first 12, and I had to manually unlock them all.

Personally I found it a pita, but as the OP said, at least you get the unlocks, so with a bit of effort you can fix it.

I've posted this idea before, but the above quotes mirror what I think is needed to get a red-side zone revamp. If a red-side zone gets a revamp, give heroes access to it. They'll get permission from Lowbow or Vanguard, and they can go to the zone that was revamped.

I'm not sure how this affects the viability of the whole morality system. Since alignment merits are pretty sweet, I don't think it does. Just make sure that Heroes in Rogues Isles can't use the ferry/black helicopter/tunnel and I think that will be enough to differentiate a Hero in Rogues Isles from a Vigilante. The Heroes will basically be one zone at a time.

Anyway, I'd love to see new TFs and new red side content in general. I'd love to see some serious zone revamps. But I think to get that Heroes will have to be given access to the content, straight up. It's the only way.
  11. I never considered sending a trouble ticket to have the day for the points moved. I'll have to consider that, thanks for pointing it out.
  12. Oddly similar here. My billing date is around the 8th, and I'm getting my points around the 28th as well. I get my reward token closer to the middle of the month (15th or so).

Hmm, both of our tokens are about a week after our billing date, and both of our points are on the 28th. Coincidence?

    Concept Build?

Hmm, this is a bit of a tangent, but for a while now I've been wondering what will happen to CoH when it is finally put out to pasture by NC Soft. My personal plan involves having the dev's last act basically be to beef up the Mission Architect as much as possible, and let the players create their own content. (Which should be fun in its own right.)

But these "concept" builds might be another way to extend a aging MMORPG. There's another superhero MMORPG that lets you build a much more "custom" character so that you could truly express your individual ideas.

I'm not after tank mages here (play a VEAT ), but something that really allows a lot more options. Like what if my concept is a vigilante with a gun who also has dual pistols for back up and knows martial arts? I think that's impossible right now. But it shouldn't be impossible to do, and doesn't have to be unbalancing if the values on damage and defense are within reason.

I think I'll add that to my personal wish list. Improved Mission Architect plus custom characters.
  14. Points at this point are pretty much at random, although mine have been showing at the end of a monthly billing cycle, actually after the Reward Token.
  15. Isn't there an option for "earn XP while exmplared?" Is is checked for you or not?
  16. Another thing that is somewhat new is that you can add yourself to the LFG and still do instance missions at the same time. So I would do that. Add yourself to the LFG looking for "Any Trial". If a trial kicks off, you'll likely be added too it. (Trials may be locked or full, in which case you won't be able to join.) You can still do your solo routine, but you'll be able to join a trial if one forms up.

Just please press the green Ready button ASAP. No one likes That Guy who takes forever to ready up.

Also, join your server's global channels. If anything does form up in the off hours, it will likely be advertised there.

  18. Stuff that will almost certainly happen:

o New zone, Night Ward, is a spooky magic version of First Ward.

o Hybrid, a new incarnate slot, is opened up. Six down, four to go.

o New iTrial is the only way to earn Hybrid iXP. It's not too hard though.

o New Task Force in Independence Port.

    ... I'm sure there's more I'm missing.

This. For about the price of just the alignment system, you can get all of Going Rogue, plus a month of VIP and the 400 Paragon point stipend that comes with it.

I think Amazon still has boxes of Going Rogue. Just don't get a "used" one that's been "played once," those have the serial code used and they won't do you any good.

This is certainly true. I don't like to get into "X is better than Y" because that argument is subjective. But NW are fun, and their single target damage is certainly darn good. It's more about what you like to play. But NW have the crit from hide mechanic, which is fun, great team buffs and their ST damage does not suck.

Is that "better?" Maybe, or not depending on the player. I just say NW are worthy in their own right.

This is a good point. Solo, I play my Fort a lot like I play my controller. Control first, damage second. It's ungodly safe, and that's on top of my very high defenses. Confuse does not break Mask Presence, so you can easily confuse a spawn of 3 or 4 before becoming visible to attack.

On a team, you're more of a buffer plus damage. And you have some AoE control for emergencies. I try to hit as much of the team as possible with Mind Link (without the "group hug") and then toss AoEs at the spawn.

Ah, well my estimate of Night Widow damage was based on a performance comparison thread in the Scrapper forums from about a year ago which mentioned that Night Widows could achieve higher DPS than a Claws/SR along with better defenses and strong team buffs.

This may be true, but I expect it's not out of the box for a NW. Probably a fairly high end build. It's fair to bring up, but it might be misleading to tell folks NW are higher DPS than Scrappers, because until you get all the buffs you won't be (I assume).

I have a level 50+3 Fort with perma-Hasten and perma Mind Link, and I'd hesitate to compare a Fort to a Dom. The Fort AoE controls are on very long timers (5 minutes, base, I believe) and even with perma-Hasten those AoE controls take like 1 minute 30 seconds to recharge. (I'm going from memory here, not looking at Mids or the character).

The way I use my Fort is more like a blaster. I go for damage. I can control in a pinch, but so can a Psi blaster (their control powers are almost identical to the Forts). So I go for the blaster comparison. It's not 100% accurate, but it does I think communicate the role of the Fort well.

And from what i've read well built Night Widows are more like Claws/SR Scrappers with even more damage and good team buffs.
Again, my level 50 NW probably doesn't do as much damage as a scrapper. I'd have to double check, but I think base damage is less, and the crits are only from hide, and the crits add 50% damage, not 100% like a scrapper. NW are fun but they're not quite as versatile as Forts imo.

BTW, I have four SoA for role-play purposes mostly, but if you don't want to level that many, you can just use the second build to get the other half. Get a Fort, and 2nd build as a Night Widow. Ditto with Crab/Bane. If you like one much better, then you can respec both builds to be the same.
  23. It's been a while since I've played my SoA, but generally Crabs are seen as tough, good AoE damage and good debuffs, whereas Banes are more like a stalker lite. Both have good to excellent team buffs, and they can doubled up Leadership which is seen as a big boost to teams.

Both have the option of making a "Huntsman", where you keep the gun attacks from the pre-24 levels. I can't give you specifics on DPS but a lot of folks prefer this approach. It's like a 3-in-1 AT. Plus, with 2nd builds, you can have both a Bane and a Crab.

The other SoAs are Fortunatas and Night Widows. NW are like claws/SR scrappers, with less damage but again good team buffs. Forts are Psi blasters with less damage and better personal defense. Both have good team buffs. Both can double up on Leadership like all SoA. Once Mind Link is perma (fairly easy on NW and only somewhat harder on Forts) their team buffs are also pretty much over the top.
  24. Beta just started last week. We have, by my guess, another 6-7 weeks left before Issue 23 goes live. That's plenty of time to release Staff Fighting still.

Obviously they can. The question is: which zone update/content release would you like to give up so that they can have Issue 24: Fixed Ouroboros? It's all time and money, and no one has unlimited amounts of either.

And assuming that you would rather have a modestly changed Ouroboros with almost no new functionality except for a few rogue corner-cases, do you really think even 10% of the player base would agree with you? I'd guess it's about 5% or less who would actually want to give up a content release just so Rogues can access GC and DA?

In all honesty, I think just adding a quick rift or gate in the existing villain Ouro for Rogues to access GC and DA would be the quickest and easiest, but then I don't know that for a fact either. *shrug*
