  1. I was surprised when I rolled up a stone/fire tank last year and got the name Stone Burn. I thought for sure something that simple would be taken.
  2. Charging for farm runs used to be much more common than it is now. My wife and I used to run the liberate TV farm all the time with my brute and her corruptor and we would charge people to join. It was different back then though.

Doorsitting lowbies could get a LOT more xp, since we would get bridges for them.
This was under the old difficulty system, so if you wanted to run the map solo set for x8, you had to find padders to start the mission.
Unlike when running AE, having extra people on a normal farm actually does cut into the profits the farmer is making, since most of the money in farming is in purples, and more people on the team dilutes the chance of getting one.

Or the more reasonable route.. Allowing all four of the Alpha slot abilities to be active simultaneously? All four Tier 4 slots going in-tandem, with no need to switch them out
I weep at the thought of not only how overpowered this would be, but also how ridiculously difficult it would be to actually get.

I was indeed doing both of these things. Thanks guys. Fixing them brings the DPS down to about 202 and makes Follow up/focus/slash/strike slightly better than Follow up/focus/slash/fire blast. This is still not counting the two chance for buildup procs or the achilles' heel since I'm not quite sure how to factor those into the calculations.

Here's the claws/regen build I'm considering. I'm coming up with a total of 312.1 DPS running a chain of follow up/focus/slash/fire blast. This includes double-stacked follow up and the damage boost from Musculature core paragon. It does not include the two chance for build up procs or the achilles' heel proc.

    Regen questions

Here's the BS/Regen build I'm considering. I'm coming up with 143.2 DPS running a chain of Parry/Hack/Headsplitter/Hack/Disembowel. Quite probably there's a better chain I could run, but I haven't done a ton of tinkering yet on finding the best attack chain. I'm not sure if incarnate stuff is showing up in posted builds or not, but it uses Spiritual Core Paragon.

Yes, in the most basic sense, DPS is damage of the chain over Arcanatime of the chain, but I think you're calculating something wrong, at least on Claws, and possibly on both.
It's certainly possible that I'm calculating something wrong, or that I've got some setting wrong in Mid's so the numbers I'm getting aren't valid. 260 did seem a bit high, but I couldn't figure out anything that I did wrong. I'll post both the BS/Regen and Claws/Regen builds that I'm considering after this post. Maybe someone can tell me what I did wrong.

Thanks for the rest of the advice though.

Total damage of the chain divided by the arcanatime. Is there another way to do it?

Very few players care if you can do 260 damage per second against a pylon or a hardened target such as an Archvillain.
I'm one of those few players. I enjoy soloing AVs and pylons and the like, so if I can make a new character that can do it, I'll be happy. It's not THE deciding factor in what I decide to play, but it's one of them.

As to which build you ultimately take? Well, that's up to you. Broadsword and Claws are completely different play experiences.
Thank you for not actually answering my question.

Anyone actually have some helpful advice?

    Regen questions

I've never played a regen scrapper past about level 10 and I think it's time I finally try to. I'm considering running either BS/Regen or Claws/Regen. Either one will get a fairly high-end build. The BS/Regen build I'm considering has perma-hasten and can softcap melee with one application of parry. It's got some decent burst damage, but the DPS comes in at a fairly anemic 143.

The claws build has slightly less recharge with hasten being about 5 seconds off permanent, and is nowhere near the softcap for any type or position. The damage, however, is amazing, with almost 260 DPS, not counting the two chance for buildup procs and the achilles heel proc in his chain.

My question is, if I go with the claws/regen build, how squishy am I going to be, both while leveling and at the end game? I don't have to be tanker tough, but I don't want to feel like I'm playing a blaster either.

    Thoughts?

    Countdown Timer

I tried to go convert merits into a hero merit this morning, and wasn't able to because of the 20 hour timer on it. I'd like to see that done away with, but I've resigned myself to the fact that it's not going to happen, so as long as we're stuck with it (and other things that are locked out by real-life timers, such as TF rewards, tips, etc.) could we get a countdown that tells us how long it will be before we can do whatever it is again?

For example, instead of just the red message saying "You can only do this once every 20 hours" for converting merits to hero merits, have it say "You can do this again in 2 hours, 4 minutes, and 12 seconds." It would be useful since on some characters I have a few hundred merits I want to convert, and I don't always remember how long it's been since I last did it, and it's kind of a pain to have to keep checking.
  11. Depends on how much money you have. For me, yes, it's worth it. Then again, I've spent close to a billion inf. on nearly every character I have. I've got 3 who cost much more than that.
  12. It's certainly a great power, and definitely one of, if not THE best, pool powers available. I wouldn't call it a 'must have' power though. This game doesn't really have 'must have' powers. Stamina was as close as they came, but even that you could get along without if you needed to.

That being said though, nearly all of my characters have hasten. Partly because it's awesome, and partly because superspeed is my favorite travel power. Since I'm not a 60-month vet yet, I've got to take something to unlock superspeed, and it sure ain't going to be flurry.
  13. Personally, I'd much rather do speed runs of most of the weekly strike targets.

Of the TFs offered so far, I've done every one of them at least 30 times in the past. Most of them I did 5-10 additional times while they were the WST. The point being that they're not new and interesting any more. Sure, they're fun or I wouldn't do them, but part of the fun for me at least is in doing speed runs and seeing how fast we can pull them off.

However, if I'm leading a team, I always make it clear to everyone involved before we start that we'll be doing a speed run so there's no confusion. I also ask if everyone is familiar with the speed running tactics for that particular TF.

And if I'm not leading, I make sure to ask the leader if we're doing a speedrun before I join.

This tends to get rid of most of the problems, though I still run into some, like the guy last week who agreed to join a speed LGTF and told me he knew what to do, but continued to fight the mobs killing infernia and glacia even after repeated requests to let them die.

One other thing that might be causing you problems is if you're in praetoria, the enemies there tend to have more defense than low-level enemies in Paragon or the Rogue Isles do.

    Build Critique

I decided my next character is going to be a BS/Regen scrapper, two sets I've never played before. It's going to be a heavily IO'd build. My goals were softcapping melee defense with one application of parry, perma-hasten, and as much regen and accuracy as I could cram in. Below is my build. Any thoughts or suggestions on improving it?

    Does it count...

I need to try going back and redoing some of the AVs that I couldn't do before I got my alpha slot.

I need to try 3 at once too for that matter.
  17. I just had my first of these the other day. I paid 250 million inf for a piece of rare salvage.

I've bought a few on the market and the wait times seem to vary quite a bit. Some I've gotten as quickly as two weeks and others have taken more than a month.
  19. I like most of them, but which is my favorite depends on what character I'm on, and what the team needs most. There's a few that I'm not too fond of though. Trick arrow, because it is just meh. Cold domination, because while it's awesome, I don't like the ice-cube shields covering up my costume. Any of my softcapped characters find bubblers useless.

Depends on how you're judging it. I built a high-end build with purples about 2.5 years ago that cost me about 1.8 billion. Now it would cost 5 or 6 billion. That's certainly inflation, but it's not 4,000% like you're talking about.
  22. You'll probably get more/better advice posting on this in the specific AT forums.
  23. Absolutely not. Veteran rewards should not contribute to a haves vs. have-nots feeling in the game between veterans and new players. It's a line that's already been crossed a couple times in my opinion, and this would be a worse idea than any of them.

    What was your...

I didn't spend much time at all marketeering on 2xp weekend. I bought a bunch of purples the week before and listed them Friday evening though. It ended up netting me about 2 billion in profit, even after my 250 million influence 'oopsie' on a piece of rare salvage.

    Shard drop rates

I'm with Lothic on this one. I think there's got to be some kind of bug affecting you. I got my rare slot on friday, and got 6 shards on the ITF that I ran sunday.

The drop rate on shards isn't all that high, but I generally average 4-6 of them per TF that I run. The chances of you not getting a single one on 8 TFs and 5 other missions is ridiculously low. It's hard to believe that the RNG just hates you that much.
