So, I've got 30 A-Merits now...
The entire point of rMerits and aMerits, in my opinion, is to get you something without having to depend on the market for it. That is, really, the entire point.
If you want to do the market proper, take 30 rolls and put the stuff up on the market instead. Also, it'd be really interesting to post here what you got on those 30 rolls, and how much it all sold for. Please?
P.S. Doesn't the 3% Def PvP IO cost 35 aMerits?

I know I could roll them all and go with what comes up. Granted, as long as the 150 rolls average 20 million in worth I'd make 3 billion from it. Of course, that's ignoring crafting fees. Or, I can sell the PVP IO and possibly make even more without waiting 30 days just to roll all my merits. But how long is the usual wait when going through the market? Because, you know, I want to have my cake and eat it, too.
P.S. I thought I saw it listed as 30 merits, but I could be wrong. But what's 5 more merits at this point?

The 3% defense unique is, indeed, 30 merits.
I disagree that random rolls is clearly "doing the market proper". Merits of either sort aren't just for getting things without using the market. You can already do that if you're willing to put your fate in the hands of the RNG. The point of merits is to get things with a high degree of determinism. What you get is a function of what you want to achieve. If you want a huge gob of money than selling a 3% defense PvPO is vastly more deterministic than rolling 150 random rolls. (You would need to average 23.333M inf per item on the market to get 3.5B for those rolls, btw.)

I'd say it really depends on your needs. If your pretty well off and have a build in mind that uses it, keep it. Another one is only 30 merits away. On the other hand, if your inf reserves are low then the sale of the +3 could fund an entire fairly pimped out build or even 2 if your frugal. Personally, I've gotten 2 from merits and kept them both, I can make inf in other ways when I need it. I'm half way to another one and I'll be keeping that one too.
P.S. The +3%def PvP IO is 30 merits
Hmm, so does anyone have experience with purchasing said IO on the market? Any idea on average wait times when placing a 2 Billion bid?
(I'm at work, so I can't view market history at the moment to get a decent idea)

I put in a bid at 2 bill for it one week ago and I haven't gotten it yet. That's the only data point I've got for you.
As far as we know the system is not FIFO, so it's impossible to say when a bid will be resolved. If I knew for a fact that every existing bid was for the exact same amount then I might be able to work it out, but given that there are an unknown number of bids for other amounts, there's no way to know.

Edit: At the time, one sold, on estimated average, probably about every two days. I haven't looked at it since.

Besides spending on random rolls or spending on a single PVP IO, the other option is to buy recipes you can resell at a good price. If you're willing to be patient, you could probably make far more than 3 billion selling 30 low-supply recipes.

Sounds like most bids take quite some time to ever go through. Last time I looked, I remember seeing plenty of bids with zero for sale, and history records of 2 billion straight across the board. And that was looking at different times. Granted, some bids could be below the inf cap, but I don't see it affecting the waiting period very much.
I'm weighing the benefits of the PVP IO in my build (it won't be a soft-cap build) and I'm starting to think the 3% won't be missed. Maybe I'll just sell it then.

Not sure what prices are doing on these, but I've A-merited 3 of these, slotted 1, sold 2 for 4BN each, bought one off market for 2BN.
It's true. This game is NOT rocket surgery. - BillZBubba
well I would say sell it.....but.
if you buy a bunch of LoTG recharge procs, that sell for 180mil per recipe....craft them, sell them for more....
which only cost 2 A-merits, wouldn't you end up with more money than you would get from spending them all on the 3% defense proc and selling that?
I dunno....I would sell it, but that's just me...and I have no A-merits ;_;

It works out about the same, if you find someone offering 3 bil.

Yeah, if you can get 3 billion for the PvP IO then that's a lot less time and work than any other method, and it's very hard to get that much or more than that via any other method.

...and I'm not sure which way I should go on this. Should I buy the PVP +3% Def IO and use it for myself, or should I purchase it, sell it for 3-3.5 billion off market and place a bid on the market and wait forever to see it go through?
