    Oh, cool. Thanks.
I'll look for a way to fit the extra KB in.

I'd also want more kb protection. I usually build to 12 pts to keep me safe from Nemesis staffs, but 8 pts would keep you safe from an exploding ACU (4 pts won't) which you could easily get with a BotZ in SJ.
Will do, thanks. I've read in many places that you should either use 4 pts or 12 pts of KB protection, and that 8 wasn't worthwhile... but the exploding ACU thing definitely seems worth it.
  3. So I am scratching my head. I am sitting at just shy of 41% s/l defense and just north of 32.5% e/ne defense. I've got 45% global recharge and recovery looks like it'll be happy enough. But I feel like I am missing something. Would any of you kind Tankers take a look at my build and let me know if it has any glaring flaws? I'd really, really like to keep Fireball and avoid purple sets... but that's my only stipulation.

    Thanks in advance

  4. My experience with Time Manipulation is that it's a very "Tanky" set all its own. With Farsight, Time's Juncture and Distortion Field you're pretty damn tough. I'm not even level 50 yet (level 42) and I find myself taking the alpha when our Tank doesn't know what to do (in one particular situation he didn't have mez protection and we were fighting Rikti). The slow factor from Cryo rounds will only make you tougher. I use Psychic Blast on my Time 'fender and -recharge stacks beautifully with Distortion Field. I wish it was a complete -movement, but oh well.
  5. Aight thanks Defender people. I take the build is relatively solid barring your suggestions. I'll move some slots around to see what I can come up with

Okay, I was thinking about that actually. I asked a few people in game if the Lockdown proc worked well and I got a lot of derps and confusion as to what I was asking. I also considered damage procs in Juncture, is that worth it at all? I really don't -need- the small amount of defense I'm getting from the set.
  7. So, I absolutely LOVE Time. I almost feel like a Tanker sometimes (for me, that's a good thing). My Time Defender is currently level 24, so I am beginning to think about IOing. I came up with a build that has great numbers... but I'm a little afraid that I am butchering some of her powers. I am not too familiar with the support sets... so some help would be appreciated.

    Sooooo, if y'all wouldn't mind... please take a look at the build I came up with and let me know if it has any unthinkable slotting mistakes. Seems a little too good. I have softcapped S/L/E/NE and very close to softcapped F/C and Psi (they ARE softcapped with Agility Core). I also managed perma Hasten/Chrono Shift;

(I don't want to buy purples, please don't suggest them... though I could swing the Defender AT enhancement set)

Either, really. So long as it can farm fairly quickly while still being a Tank. This is why I am leaning at Fiery Aura, as it opens possibilities with AE farming as well as normal content.
  9. As a Tank. I want a combination that makes me tough as all hell and able to dish out some pretty good damage and maybe even be able to farm. I realize I wouldn't be as fast or hard-hitting as a Brute, but hey... what can you do? Let's pretend I have infinite funds, what combo should I use?

My first thought was Fiery Aura for the primary. I've heard very good things about the durability of a softcapped FA, and Burn, Blazing Aura and Fiery Embrace is a DPS orgasm with almost any secondary.

My real question is... what should I use for a secondary? I like the idea of Titan Weapons for its AoE smashiness. The taunt animation is cool, too. But endurance... eww.. I do NOT want to use Super Strength. I have a SS/FA Brute already.

    Suggestions, Tanker-people?
  10. The entire Mastermind AT.

They're great, super powerful when done properly. I like that. A lot. But... the pet sets never match my concept quite right as I can't customize my pets. I'd settle for at least summoning thugs that look the same each time. That and the support secondary makes me feel like I'm taking a backseat to WATCH my own powerset win for me. Yeah, I know there are three attacks built into the primary but I can't handle the anemic damage. I like hitting things and I like hitting them hard. Back to ANY OTHER archetype I go!

    ....Except maybe Defenders...
    >.<
  11. With my preference for melee ATs, I hugely appreciate buffs and debuffs. But I also like people who can support themselves as I don't like worrying about their squishiness getting all over my shoes.

But outside of powers, I'm quite happy with anyone who knows what their character is doing and doesn't make me wonder things like 'why did that Controller just use Fulcrum Shift on one enemy?' or 'why does that Brute not have mez protection?'

Oh, and people that can actually carry on a conversation. It feels like a chore teaming with people that won't speak or at least react in some way, shape or form to what I say.
  12. I'd take a few powers from each set to match the concept of my main perfectly

    AT: Tanker
    Inherent: Fury

    Primary Set: Lightning Sword
Like Broadsword but while using electric/lightning attacks with your free hand! No redraw, please!
    Hack
    Lightning Bolt
    Slice
    Ball Lightning
    Parry
    Whirling Sword
    Disembowel
    Lightning Rod
    Head Splitter

    Secondary Set: Electric Shield
Shield Defense mixed with Electric Armor. There's no need to go into details, but it'd be awesome with it's softcapped positionals and good resistances =P
  13. This is it. Be gentle, I'm new to Blasters =]

  14. The build workshop isn't the most reliable forum so I'm going to post my build both here and there. I am new to Blasters, relatively speaking, and this is the first combo that really grabbed me. She's nearing 50 and I was planning out her final build and came up with the following.

It's got about 42% defense to ranged and a bonus 45% to energy and 30% to s/l all while maintaining a cool 68% bonus to global recharge. I tried moving around slots to hit the softcap on ranged but it's giving me a major headache. SO if anyone can see any better way to achieve that softcap that would be fantastic. OR if I have missed any big points in either set I'd like to know. I am new to Blasters, so please be gentle

  15. Broadsword might share all the lame animations of the other weapons sets (Katana, why do YOU get to be pretty!?), but Parry is truly incredible. It recharges lightning fast and adds 15% defense to melee AND lethal. You can slot up the defense bonus to around 22-23%, meaning you're softcapped from nothing in just two applications. Parry, out of the box, allows you to stack two of it. Just gotta make sure it hits. It's a little bit redundant on Shield, however, as you will probably end up softcapping your defenses anyway. Still, it's super useful in the early levels and pretty good when all those Cims are hacking and slashing their way through your DDR. Not to mention the lethal defense component has a good shot at blocking out other attacks if your Ranged and AoE aren't as high as you'd like.
  16. I might be a little late to this subject... I JUST realized you could do this until 50. It's funny that they Devs are attacking AE left and right but DfB is okay because it's their content. Both AE and DfB create the same type of "babies" unaware of what their powers do and how their character meshes with others.

    Brute as a Tank?

I'll add onto these guys. Regeneration can tank just fine in most situations. However, other sets can do it much better. WP, Invuln, Elec, Fire... any set really is going to be inherently tougher thanks to their resistances/defenses which IO's and buffs will only further. That said... regen can do it, but you'll be more or less put shame by other sets. If you're okay with that, go for it! I think it would be pretty satisfying to out-Tank some of the bulkier sets on the virtue of knowing what you're doing and how to build a character

People don't talk much about the sword sets for Brutes. Not sure why, they're just as viable on a Brute as they are on a Scrapper. I took a Broadsword/Electric Armor Brute from 1 to 50 and enjoyed it a lot. It's awesome. You won't be dealing quite as much damage as your Scrapper variants, especially if your Scrapper has a ton of recharge. However, you will be sturdy as hell. Parry/Divine Avalanche work even better on a Brute as they have more HP and can hold aggro better. If you're going to make a sword Brute, I recommend making them a more tank-oriented. Of course... you can have the best of both worlds if you slot for a bunch of recharge

Just for a point of reference, I was able to solo Chimera fairly quickly. This is the only AV I've bothered to try on my own (I happened to have the mission). So if there's a damage difference, it's not huge.
  19. Edit: I just noticed your specification about other defenses. I don't think you really need them, the vast majority of powers in the game have a smashing or lethal component to them. Most of the "pure" attacks are Psi, which are rare-ish anyway. I think you'd end up being tougher if you simply slotted for more S/L defense than a trivial amount of other defenses.

You're using some interesting sets. Why would you go for Touch of Death when you could place another Kinetic Combat? And why Scirocco's Dervish when you could have another set of Obliteration? Here is my build for Broadsword/Electric Armor, it has the following stats:

32.5% S/L defense (softcap on a purple, lethal on a Parry)

96.25% global recharge BEFORE Hasten. With a Spiritual Alpha (t3 or higher) Hasten is nicely perma. This also renders Energize fairly close to perma (about 3 seconds off).

You can adopt this into your build fairly easily. And if you want more than 32.5% defense, you can sacrifice a little recharge to nab so more defense (slot Brawl or Boxing/Kick for Kinetic Combat). Anyways, here it is:

  20. If you don't like clickiness then Willpower is your best bet. There are... no clicks save for the rez and t9. Invuln is awesome too but you gotta either build for psi defense or try and avoid it.

I'll second Elec... even though it is kinda clicky. You get decent resistance to everything and amazing resistance to energy plus you can always build for s/l or positional defense. You'll have no endurance troubles with Power Sink, but that requires clicking. Energize is amazing, too... but its clickiness depends on how you use it. You could put it on auto for the buffs if you aim to make it perma, or use it as a heal. Your choice.
  21. Broadsword and Katana are both great for tanking simply because of Parry or Divine Avalanche. That said, choosing a defense based secondary is a little redundant. Willpower is fantastic. I used a BS/WP Scrapper haphazardly IO'd and put many Tankers to shame. I imagine the Brute would only make you that much tougher and you get acceptable aggro control. I am also a fan of Electric Armor; it's got an awesome self heal, layered durability and synergizes amazingly well with Parry. Any secondary you choose with a sword primary is gonna be tough.
  22. It shouldn't be all that different. Despite Broadsword's inclination towards single target damage, it actually has a fair few AoEs (since Head Splitter takes PBAoE IOs). If you picked up both single ST punches and Air Super (or even slot Brawl) you could sneak the Kinetic Combats in there. Just an idea.
  23. This is it. I am actually really happy with this build, but I would like to know if there is anything I am overlooking. For those who don't actually want to download the build, I have it worked out like this:

32.5% S/L defense. Softcaps on one purple. Lethal softcaps on one Parry.

31.9% Melee defense. This wasn't intended, but it sure works out nicely. Softcaps melee on a single Parry! Would it be worth it to get the extra 0.6% to softcap on a purple? I wouldn't think so... but you never know.

96.25% Recharge. Spiritual Alpha (currently have t3) makes Hasten comfortably permanent and Energize is only a few seconds away from permanent.

Note: I took Arctic Mastery because I was too lazy to switch over to RedSide to nab Patron Powers. Are any PPPs worth the trek? I don't use really use Arctic, it's just getting me an extra 13.75% recharge. I -could- stand to lose that if there's something over there that would drastically increase my performance.

Another note: Fly is concept, don't touch it. Think I fit it in there nicely though =]

  24. I'm not too sure about what to do with Electric Melee, but I have a Broadsword/Electric Armor Brute that I am very happy with. It's a more balanced build; I've got 32.5% s/l defense to softcap on one purple (and 30+ melee so I can softcap that on one Parry) while getting 96.25% recharge before Hasten. With t3 Spiritual Alpha Hasten is permanent and Energize is only a few seconds short. The build was definitely created with BS's Parry in mind, however I think it could be tweaked to fit Elec Melee. There are no purples, I don't have the patience to get them or save for them.

  25. Thanks for the advice, guys. Very helpful. And thanks for being relatively gentle, I obviously don't have much idea what I'm doing. I got a little excited when I realized how easy it was to softcap, hehe.

What I've gathered is that I can pretty much just build for recharge and recovery and be okay. I have already experienced what Arctic Air and Time's Juncture do together... wow. Can't imagine what adding Ice Slick will be like. I can see that softcapping is excessive. Does anyone have a rough estimate of how much recharge I should go for? I imagine perma-Hasten would be a good starting place. And what about recovery? Numbers anyone?

Also, which Alpha power should I consider? I'm used to Brutes where its pretty much Spiritual or Cardiac. But Musculature and Nerve actually sound useful on a Controller (maybe not so much on Musculature give Ice/Time has very little damage in the first place). Ideas?

    Thanks again
