I don't think I play anything anymore which could have been created in i0.
My first main was AR/Dev lvl 50- booted off my playing server to have the space
My first 50 was a FA/FM tanker- booted
First 50 scrapper DM/Regen- booted
FA/EM lvl 50 tanker- booted
Invuln/BA lvl 44 tanker- booted
I do have a very old rad/rad defender who was created back in i2 who's been lingering in the 40s for ages. I keep thinking I'll get him to 50 eventually. Beyond that most of what I play consists of newer sets, and especially newer ATs since I quite like SoAs. -
This isn't really correct. We did an all melee Apex back in Beta and finished it without any real trouble. About the only real adaptation we did to make it run smoothly was equip everyone with envenomed daggers since we lacked a regen debuffer. It certainly wasn't the fastest run I've been on, but we did succeed and it wasn't unreasonably long.

At most I was only a very occasional PVPer(and most often a corpse). Since the changes I avoid PvP zones like the plague. I can barely bring myself to hunt down nukes or shivans (only very, very rarely, and I used to do it all the time). The fact that by zoning the game completely changes turns me off utterly.
It would be an act of mercy to just change the PvP zones into PvE zones and add some coop content to them or something. It's not like zone PvP happens at all anymore. No point in wasting the effort that created those zones. -

Quote:Don't be so judgmental either.
You spent a post justifying your liking the ability to yank control away from other players. Now you're back pedaling.
I'm waiting for the "And I almost never have objections"
But don't worry, I will be sure to not burden your TFs with my presence. You can TP your puppets around to your heart's content. -
I guess the fact that you lead every TF or team you're on speaks to something of this control freak nature. Glad I've seen your global to avoid you.
I'm sure that in your mind every move you make is beneficial to all team members. However, I'd just as soon control my own character. I'm not one of your bots. -
I will say that since it does bypass the prompt, I guarantee if I'm lead and someone does pull that on me, you're kicked. I don't care if it's the middle of combat or a TF. Punt it is.

Quote:Brutes are not well balanced for PvP. They never have been and given the dearth of interest in PvP from the devs and general playing community, they likely never will.Ok so your saying that if your playing a brute in pvp you can maintain its fury bar? if so please fill me in.
However, in PvE, which is where the balance of the game is derived, brutes and tankers do have a form of balance. Brutes do solid damage with a head of fury (which is very easy to maintain in PvE, especially with the recent changes). Tankers are appreciably more durable, but do less damage. That's just how balance works. Scrappers are less durable than both, and do a bit more damage than brutes.
Stalkers are the red haired stepchild(less durable than scrappers coupled with less damage), and are likely to remain out in the cold for the foreseeable future. -
Quote:They do have one significant advantage, the endurance cost is a whole lot lower on TT:A and TT:L. Otherwise they are the same.(TT:A and TT:L aren't much better than the Leadership versions admittedly but TT:M is quite a bit stronger)
It should also be noted that SoAs get to use very nice modifiers on the leadership pool powers also. Their maneuvers defense numbers match those of defenders, while the assault numbers are as good as controllers. On my crab spider I run both the TT versions and pool versions of maneuvers and assault.
Back to the OP:
As others have said, the real beauty in SoAs is flexibility. You have a lot of options in where your build can go on either SoA class.
On the Soldier side, you can pretty much can mix portions of:
stalker
tanker
blaster
mastermind
All with team support properties which are very powerful.
On the Widow side you mix:
Blaster
Scrapper
Stalker (though this angle is a bit weak since the hide is lacking)
Dominator
again with fairly strong team support abilities
You do have to make some choices which are exclusionary in each build which doesn't allow complete mixing and matching of all class type abilities, but the flexibility surpasses that of every other AT (IMO at least).
The one thing which the SoAs do which is truly unique is offer a character with fairly high ranged damage, and very solid status protection. While the sonic, force field, and traps sets do also do this, they are a bit lacking in their status protection (sleep hole). Also SoAs have a higher damage scalar than defenders or corrupters. -
Minor comments on the topic:
Did the incarnate arc on my Widow. For some reason Trapdoor never bifurcated, and he went down like wrapping paper on Dec 26. I didn't really have issues with any part of the arc. I believe I was set on +0/x3 w/bosses. This is a fairly mildly IOed out Widow (plenty of SOes on most attacks) and not even softcap with Mind Link (close though).
Actually made it through an Apex TF without dying once. The team managed to get Master Of, though I already had it. Time to completion was 45 minutes IIRC.
This wasn't an optimized team by any teams. Total buff/debuff component was my crab and a dark defender. We had 2 blasters, and the rest were tankers and scrappers. -
Guess I'm nitpicky, but the article talks about a kegerator, when all it is is a beer fridge. Bah.

Quote:It can easily be noted that the teams shown featured, respectively, 2 non buff/debuff classes for the Tin Mage, and 1 non buff/debuff class for the Apex.I'll just leave these here

No temps used.
Apex time is longer because 1 member was completely lagged out and another was unable to enter last mission.
I am curious what a FRAD team would do in this case. I suspect they might not be optimal for Apex since they are a bit positionally dependent. I can't really say though since I've never run on such a team.
But I know I have done an Apex in 39 minutes on a motley team, and even the all melee Apex team we ran during Beta didn't take all too long. -
I guess what I don't understand is how people who aren't bothered to optimized their character (you know, seek out power) are worked up about not having access to the incarnate stuff when it is all about seeking power? If you have a vision of your character being as powerful as they can be, but you aren't really willing to lift a finger to do it, I just don't get it.
I too dislike that the 'pull trapdoor' method was removed, but I can live with it. I can also see the logic of it.
I can't see the logic of someone who intentionally runs Captain Gimpy wanting to save the world by himself and being put off when he's too gimpy to do it.
I can see an argument for making solo incarnate content. That is fair and a good idea. However it should be hard stuff. It should be something which Captain Gimpy isn't going to cut it for.
If incarnate content were to be easy, then you really have something which blows holes in the internal logic of the storyline. -
Quote:I prefer sets which help both on offense and defense. Kinetics, admittedly is weaker on the defensive part, but it has an excellent AOE heal, a damage debuff, and is hard to beat on offense. They are two different types of beasts, Kinetics is a good offensive (buff) set, but provides little in the way of survivability compared to Empathy
Personally, I tend to prefer sets which debuff and buff. For example, I'd definitely take a cold over an emp. -
Quote:If the iPad were only an ebook reader, the price comparison might have a point. However it is not, so the comparison isn't valid. No flash, must have a web connected PC to even turn it on, proprietary as hell... it's a flashy paperweight. On top of that there are better Ebook readers on the market for 1/4 of the cost
I will certainly admit the iPad isn't a full fledged computer in a lot of ways, but it is far more than just a reader. -
I can't agree with that. While it is a good buff set, I think it lacks in the ability to provide its full spread to a whole team. I'd take kinetics over it simply because you can keep a whole team speed boosted and at the damage cap quite easily.
On a small team, though, empathy is pretty hard to beat. -
I took her out with my twinked crab spider without any significant issues. I did have to pop serum because she landed some hits, but she went down quickly enough. The recharge and defense debuffs were a bit rough, but she still didn't land enough damage to take me out even with my defense cut in half (or more). I did get my recharge debuffed by probably 150% though, which was something to see. That's with 40% recharge debuff resistance.

Quote:A while back I bought a DVD collection of all three of the movies. The third isn't really any worse than the second one.A fun movie then and now. Also minor trivia note: Rami wanted to make the Shadow but the rights were a bit tough to obtain, hence Darkman.
I saw Darkman 2:Return of Durant and I can see why it was straight to video but still fun. I have not seen Darkman 3 and not sure I want to.
What is interesting is that for 2 and 3 Liam is replaced by Arnold Vosloo, the actor who did Imhotep in the Mummy. -
Quote:It depends on what you intend to play. If you are playing old characters, that will be a function of level. One though I would recommend for any characters 35+ is to do the Midnighter arc so you can have Cimerora access.Where should i start back up at, like witch zone would be the best to get back in the swing of things again.
For new characters, the content in Praetoria is very good, so I'd stick to that. The old fashioned early level progression is rather dated.
You will probably want to do some research in IOs in ParagonWiki as they are a very important aspect of the game these days. They aren't necessary, but the level of power potential they represent is huge.
There's been a lot of new stuff since you've been gone, and it would take a stupidly long post to list it all. Better to just dive in an find it. -
And if the other driver was a child that could barely reach the peddles and didn't know how to drive? That's what we're talking about with game AIs after all. Unless the PCs in question are somehow unwilling to use their brains enough to out think a very mediocre AI, they have a colossal advantage. That has to be offset in some way. You might, for some odd reason, call it cheating, but it is standard in video games.

Quote:I've yet to see a gross misinterpretation pointed out. I believe I have only criticized the points you have made.It is still an insult as that is not what I've ever said. The fact that you grossly misinterpreted what I have stated, is frankly insulting.

Quote:The way your post reads is as a series of insults, in a very condescending manner.
Quote:The game demonstratively cheats. For instance, the Aspect of Rularuu shoots and debuffs through his "Only Affects Self" Personal Force Field, even though the developers could not repeat it at the time, I was able to record it actually happening. Likewise the developers are trying to make a hard challenge for the players, but in doing so they have given the NPCs and the encounters an advantage that players can't counter.
Quote:An example in the Tin Mage TF are the invisible and intangible mine layers that continue to lay proximity bombs away from the AV, even if the AV is held or controlled. The mine layers are supposed to represent the AV tossing mines around. If that were the case, then the mine layers need to stop throwing mines away from the Director and stop while he is incapable of launching any attack.
Quote:Having one set of rules for the NPCs and another for the players is cheating.
Quote:It isn't that you are disputing what I'm saying. It is HOW you are doing so. You are implying or stating things I've never said and attributing those statements to me. The fact that you can't see that you are launching personal attacks means that I have nothing further to say to you.
I've followed your complaints on these TFs and the incarnate arc since the beta, and it's been a consistent series of requests that the hard parts be made easy. You've stated again and again, that the new content is just too hard. Demonstrably it is not, as plenty of people are capable of doing the TFs and arc without trouble and without tuned builds. The game has introduced 'too hard' content before and it has been solved without it having to be nerfed on the developer end. Heck, the ITF's final fight was once deemed 'too hard' and people caterwauled about it. Nowadays people breeze right through that whole TF in no time. -
Personally I'd probably vote for 'quit to character select'.
