That should get you started My main is an Electric/Electric/Mace build. You really dont need the Mu set if you wish to build a "sapper" but you do need Short Circuit and Power Sink. You may be able to get some ideas from my build just substitute Short Circuit for an attack

Sets: Electric/Electric/Mace
Server: Champion
Pros: 45% Defense to S/L, 33% to Energy
Playstyle: Melee/Close Range Specialist
Player notes: I'm very pleased with his Defensive capablity - I rarely get hit or mezzed and I'm in melee range a vast majority of the time. I bought some Kinetic Combat sets way way long ago so in terms of cost it wasnt too bad. -
I've talked to quite a few peeps on Champion regarding their Blaster builds and what they did with them. I'm curious to see what other forum posters went for.
So I thought I'd start a thread where we could see share ideas, offer suggestions and ask questions. -
Quote:I can make suggestions but it's kinda important to know your playstyle. It appears to me that you're a hover blaster in which case I'd take Buckshot over M30 since it's KB is directional vs radial. Thanks MegaMan but I would still slot fitness if I got it as an inherent so the only difference would be that I'd have the stealth, grant invis and invis in there with LotG 7.5s in them.
Is my build so different from the norm that no one can suggest any improvements?
I dont get the 5 slotting with ToDs - I reckon it's just for the Damage buff? Personally I'd six slot those sets (taking the slots from Body Armor) with Makos to get some DEF to Ranged.
I'd also pull the steadfast KB IO out and stick in a Steadfast RES/DEF IO. In this game DEF > RES and since you're a hover blaster you just do a flip when you get KB'd.
I'd also pull the slot out Sniper Rifle (the HO) and stick it in Burst and six slot Burst with Thunderstrike.
I'd also slot Stamina with one level 50 IO END MOD, one level 50 Performance Shifter END MOD and one level whatever Performance Shifter proc.
Below is build you can check out I took CFR at 41 and Body Armor at 49. CFR is 4 slotted with Basilisk's Gaze which adds another 7.5% recharge
You also have 21% buff to Damage before Assault is on AND 20% DEF to RANGED which means you get mezzed less.
How important is DEF? My main blaster is currently sitting at 45% DEF to S/L and about 33% to Energy. I rarely get hit or mezzed and I live in melee range (He's electric/electric/mace)
Now the suggestions I made involve at least two respecs - to get out the IO sets and will involve some marketing (which shouldnt be a problem if you have a purple set)

When you say good recharge like how much do you want exactly? Do you play in melee range or are you more of ranged blaster? You may not have mids but you can list the powers that you have and we can put together slotting and a build based on what you have - what pool powers you have etc.
-
Quote:Depends on the goal. I would either go full set of Thunderstrike or Devastation or frankenslot between the two sets. If I 3 slot it I fill the other two slots with devastation (or 3 slots if my blaster/defender/corruptor is Electric - 3rd with the hold proc)I have been researching "ranged damage" sets for my level 39 Fire/Fire blaster. Almost every guide or build I come across has 1 or 2 of each of these sets included. I am currently pretty well frankenslotted to maximize my combat stats, but I'm entertaining the idea of going for some 5 or 6 enhancement set bonuses on the 4 "ranged damage" abilities (flares, fire blast, blaze, blazing bolt). I have enough recipes and most of the ingredients for two full sets of Devastation. I generally only group with this character and I almost never do blapping as I prefer to stay at range, even if it's short range. Thunderstrike's advantage is the 6th bonus which gives you the big ranged defense & energy/neg energy bonus. Devastation seems to be good for health, damage and a good psionic/holds defense bonus.
My pools are Fighting (for the defense) Fitness (obvious) Medicine (for the heals) and Concealment (for tactical positioning and "Oh $hit" moments)
For I-19 I am going to replace the Fitness pool (inherent) with Leadership for the good grouping oriented bonuses.
For travel I use Ninja Run (but I love Super Jump!!!)
Please discuss the pros and cons of these two sets and give me your advice. I have played around with Mids but I'm looking for some quick, to the point advice really.
Thanks!
Lightning bolt: 3 Thunderstrikes (A/D,A/D/R,A/D/E) + Devastation: (A/D/E/R , A/D/R , Hold Proc) -
Thanks for the guide and build suggestions - my Storm/Sonic just hit 41 and I've recently IO'd her to about 22% Ranged Defense and am currently working on more sets (my main is an Electric / Electric/Mace Blaster who's got 45% Defense to S/L
) I'm curious what your thoughts are now that GR is out.
-
Would it be better cap for S/L (well get close to it) or try to cap for Ranged? I've yet to rebuild my Electric/Electric Blaster and am teetering (still) on which direction to go for. I've made builds in Mids that are very close to the S/L cap but it requires alot of veteran respecs (to get out unused sets) / alignment missions and tons of influence (though I do have some Kinetic Combat sets that I'm gonna pull from a soon to be deleted toon).
-
I'd skip Timebomb it's very situational (when you get to that level try it out on Test server). I'd also take Mace Mastery for the scorpion shield - FFG + Scorpion Shield even w/ SOs and you should be in the thirties range to S/L. Traps is one the few sets that I would say Hasten is must have (IMO) to get out moar Mortar/PGT/Seeker

Quote:Actually I did an experiment on my Ice Tank where I respec'd out of Fitness trading those powers for Boxing Tough / Weave and relying on EA and Physical Perfection and she could handle +4/8 (normally she's on +2/4). I was shocked and amazed but the endurance management is a bit much. So I know exactly what I'll be respecing into come i19. My SS/Electric brute does not have fitness either and took the fighting pool and it makes a difference in terms of both survivability and sense of fullfillment. She relies on Power sink / physical perfection / superior conditioning for Endurance management.Maybe it's nothing more than the difference of being able to run at +2/x8 and +4/x8.
I got hooked on tough and weave because my main is SR. Before IOs, tough gave me extra s/l dam-res to take the edge off when I was getting hit. Weave added more defense which is necessary for SR's survival. Now with IOs, tough is the only spot to place the Steadfast +Def unique and weave is a fine set mule as well as the help it gives getting to the softcap.
I won't be taking tough and weave on my new fire/fire tank, but his entire concept is based on dying a lot and dishing out ridiculous damage when he's not eating dirt.
Together, tough and weave add mitigation. Mitigation allows you to handle more incoming damage and stay upright. This allows for faster leveling, faster farming, and the ability to stand up to harder targets.
In my head, skipping the fighting pool is the same as running without stamina. Sure, you can do it, but you'll be better off with it. -
Quote:What they could do is use the animation from Energy Transfer and put ET back the way it wasI know you don't know but, i have been doing and still do martial arts for 32 years.
A double strike from horse stance?
Yeah, why not instead a Superman punch? That would be much more interesting.
I've played both an EM and DM stalker and while I dislike animation for EM it doesnt bother me on DM because of the skull (the skull rawks).
Doesnt MA have the same animation too? -
Quote:can someone give me the 411 on which powers to take in which order so it will not suck ? plz and thank you
By "EA" you mean "ELA" for Electric Armor? EA is most oftenly used for Energy Aura. As for build suggestions that totally depends - do you have ninja run ? (for me this often negates the need for a travel power so that I can grab the pre-reqs in Fitness and stamina by 20) - If you're gonna be teaming with buffers alot you may not need Static Shield till later. -
Aye, although it's months away that's what made my decision easier to try it out on live servers rather than test. However for anyone else I'd strongly recommend trying it on Test first, while I am comfortable with PSink / Superior Conditioning and Physical perfection for endurance management ymmv.
-
With access to Energy Mastery I decided to respec my level 50 SS/ELA brute removing Fitness and taking up the Fighting pool (for boxing / tough / weave). Thus far I am liking the results and with both Superior Conditioning and Physical Perfection and of course a well timed Power Sink I'm not missing Fitness. Not only do I feel sturdier thanks to both Tough and Weave, but I'm (more importantly) enjoying playing her. Unfortunately I don't have access to a planner right now but with IOs and CJ and Weave I've go somewhere in the ballpark of 17 % to 18 % defense to S/L on top of my resists. That's nowhere near the soft cap but it is noticable I'm curious if any other ELA brute owners have done the same and how has their experience been whether positive or negative.

Two good guides under the blaster section would be Mystic Amethyst and Pulsewaves although some stuff wont be applicable. You'll also want to consider going to the Defender's section and check out the guides there.
-
Quote:I cant picture AR without Flamethrower or Ignite. Ignite + EFence would be good stuff - I've got both an AR/ICE and Electric/Electric Blaster so I'm familiar with both sets. Put a build up from Mid's planner - that way it'll be easier to make suggestions. Based on your concept however I see the potential for Beanbag / Shocking Grasp / Lightning Clap as a form of soft control.I have recently returned to the game after a 12 month hiaitus. My latest toon is a level 13 AR/Elec blaster, something of a concept character: spy with a silenced rifle plus electrical gadgets for non-lethal takedowns. The combination seems amusing so far, but without any great synergies between the two powersets.
Any thoughts on how to develop this combo in the mid levels? In order to keep to the stealthy concept, I'd like to avoid using the fire-based attacks if possible.
Cheers,
Sibilant -
Quote:Web grenade is good stuff - as are all the other immobs. I have EFence slotted with a Gravitational Proc IOIn case you dont know; blasters can use thier first two powers from thier primary, and 1st power from thier secondary when slept/held/mez'd.
So it really pays to have effective and slotted attacks for those powers (aside from some secondarys - looking at web grenade) -
Quote:Actually I learned how to tank from the Ring on a Tanker Tuesday. Now granted I'll never be as good as the Ring, Myr, Dinah, Kiloton, Hard Target, Ace, Bert the Viking, U-mann or several of the other good seasoned tanks on Champion it was certainly worth it - often the team leads will answer questions, give build advice, show tricks (facing the team so they dont get AoE damage), etc. It was definitely a good learning experience. What's there to enlighten, you teamed with some novice Tankers.
You can have the same situation with bad Controllers, or bad Defenders, or bad Brutes over eager to hold fury at the expense of team wipes, etc, etc.
My advice if you want to experience seasoned Tank vets and an overall fun time, come to the next Tanker Tuesday (now on it's 72nd consecutive month) on Champion, 1st Tuesday of Sept, 8pmCDT/9pmEDT @ the Kings Row IP gate.
--countdown till JB enters this post.. -
Old time Energy/Devices player here with some thoughts...
From the Energy Primary:
There are 3 powers that will be your source of mitigation in the form of KB.
Power Push - 100% 13.3 Magnitude ST KB power
Energy Torrent - % chance of KB (cone shaped AoE)
Explosive Blast - % chance of KB (radial AoE)
Nova also does 100% KB but it's more of an opener.
From the Devices Secondary:
I've used every single power and had each of them in one form or another. For me the core of powers:
Web Grenade / Caltrops / TDrone / Tripmine. I also used Smoke Grenade when it was uber. I also had TP Foe in my arsenal as well. Basically I'd plant my tripmines throw down the trops and TP Foe peeps into it - and by peeps I mean basically everything possible. I used to do the same thing in pvp zones and the arena (way way way long ago)
For difficult and trouble some boss class mobs I'd usually plant a mine field and pull them into it and then juggle them using power push. Or I'd set up a minefield behing them and power push him / her into it.
This is a build I would probably do for something in today's CoH based on your needs (no hasten / Force Mastery)
As far as having 100% stealth - just get a stealth IO and stick it in hover or fly.
Again your particular playstyle will impact what choices you will make.

Level 48 Magic Blaster

Level 4: Ninja Run
Now you may like Energy Torrent and hate Explosive Blast or hate Nova - again it's totally up to you - what I would do is recommend when you level copy yourself to test server so you can see how it is in game. I would probably skip Nova as without Buildup and only using Aim you'll only take out maybe even level to +1 con.
For IOs - just 6 slot Thunderstrike in your 3 blasts which will give you about 7.5 to ranged then look at other sets that offer ranged DEF. Good hunting -

Tanker Tuesday was started by the Ring (one of the commanders of the Watchguard at the time and also one of the MEGAFORCE leaders) who wanted to promote Tankery fun and expand the player knowledge base on Tanks in general. I dont think he ever knew how big it would become or how well it would be received on Champion.
I cant speak for the Ring but I know several Champion players who have attended or help host or just stood there flinging snowballs at Jet-Set (me lol). I am most certainly humbled and honored this event is still the haps here on Champ.
I cant name names (but you know who you arebut for all those who have helped Tanker Tuesday in any manner I humbly thank you for your support.
PS Ace - the plaque looks hella kewl and thanks for the kind words! -
