Energy/Devices Blaster build help?

I absolutely love my Energy/Devices Blaster. I haven't yet played a more survivable Blaster, but I'm hoping for even more.

So what is it I'm after? What a lot of sensible level 50 Blasters want: Softcapped Ranged Defense! My only problem is that I'm incredibly lazy. For the folks that like putting this sort of thing together, would you help a guy out?

Bonus points for leaving out Power Push, Time Bomb, and Hasten. More bonus points for including Recall Friend, Flight, and the Force Mastery APP (all for thematic purposes). Feel free to ignore these challenges, as it does make this begger a chooser. Besides, what are alternate builds for?

For those that want to be helpful, but don't want to create a build, maybe just point me in the direction of some IO sets I should pay close attention to? Any constructive input is appreciated!

All requests made with two minor caveats:
You have to be hovering OR cloaking device not be surpressed.
If you want to try to make up that slight difference, put another Explosive Strike in Trip Mine. Also, if you're a big fan of Explosive Blast you could swap Trip Mine for that. I wouldn't though.

Secondly, Numina's is in there and that sucker's expensive. Expensive enough that I usually don't use it for this purpose.

I like these sets so much though I had to try this:

Awesome timing, as I'm just preparing to use my free respec on my level 24 energy/devices blaster. I'm still not quite sure how some of these things go together. I'm used to /traps and traps/, and /devices is just different enough to confuse me.

I am highly tempted by cloaking device, just because I find positioning pretty significant for some of my attacks. Not sure about the rest of the lowbie stuff. Smoke Grenade looks like it might be useful, but I'm not sure how I'd use it.

There are clearly way more powers here than I have slots, at 24.

Some questions for the crowd:

One of the guides listed at the top of the forum says Power Push is awesome because it's useful for control. Other people seem to think it's pretty bad. Similarly, some people seem to love explosive blast, some seem to hate it. What's the story?

From the secondary, I'm normally a huge caltrops fan, but I'm wondering whether they might be less effective with all my knockback. I'm also quite fond of targeting drone, as it seems to really noticably improve my accuracy (in the sense of "chance of hitting things", not the in-game statistic "Accuracy") back at the low levels where I haven't got everything full of set bonuses. Here's an attempted modified build. Caltrops is in there because I love it so much, and because I think it's awesome when people charge up to me running in slow motion. I've added some knockback protection, which may be totally wasted. I also added stealth because total invisibility (including cloaking device) sounds handy, and Recall Friend (because it's useful sometimes, and I like to have a handy power). I've omitted the fighting pool, and I recognize that I may want to rethink that when I make 50.

Old time Energy/Devices player here with some thoughts...

From the Energy Primary:

There are 3 powers that will be your source of mitigation in the form of KB.

Power Push - 100% 13.3 Magnitude ST KB power
Energy Torrent - % chance of KB (cone shaped AoE)
Explosive Blast - % chance of KB (radial AoE)

Nova also does 100% KB but it's more of an opener.

From the Devices Secondary:

I've used every single power and had each of them in one form or another. For me the core of powers:

Web Grenade / Caltrops / TDrone / Tripmine. I also used Smoke Grenade when it was uber. I also had TP Foe in my arsenal as well. Basically I'd plant my tripmines throw down the trops and TP Foe peeps into it - and by peeps I mean basically everything possible. I used to do the same thing in pvp zones and the arena (way way way long ago)

For difficult and trouble some boss class mobs I'd usually plant a mine field and pull them into it and then juggle them using power push. Or I'd set up a minefield behing them and power push him / her into it.

This is a build I would probably do for something in today's CoH based on your needs (no hasten / Force Mastery)

As far as having 100% stealth - just get a stealth IO and stick it in hover or fly.

Again your particular playstyle will impact what choices you will make.

Level 48 Magic Blaster
Primary Power Set: Energy Blast
Secondary Power Set: Devices
Power Pool: Fitness
Power Pool: Flight
Power Pool: Teleportation
Ancillary Pool: Force Mastery

Hero Profile:
Level 1: Power Bolt -- Empty(A)
Level 1: Web Grenade -- Empty(A)
Level 2: Power Blast -- Empty(A)
Level 4: Caltrops -- Empty(A)
Level 6: Power Burst -- Empty(A)
Level 8: Swift -- Empty(A)

Now you may like Energy Torrent and hate Explosive Blast or hate Nova - again it's totally up to you - what I would do is recommend when you level copy yourself to test server so you can see how it is in game. I would probably skip Nova as without Buildup and only using Aim you'll only take out maybe even level to +1 con.

For IOs - just 6 slot Thunderstrike in your 3 blasts which will give you about 7.5 to ranged then look at other sets that offer ranged DEF. Good hunting

Power Push IS useful for control. That's all though. It's nice because it will knock back most bosses, whereas something like Taser will have to be stacked to stop a boss. I found Power Push to be a waste as a Blaster because if you're going at someone ST, between your three main STs they will spend most of their time flying anyway.

Explosive Blast just isn't as good as Energy Torrent. It's not even close. If you had to pick one, it has to be Torrent. So much. The only "problem" with Blast is that between ET and EB you can really scatter whole groups, especially if you do EB secondly. That will everyone elses' AoEs less effective. If you know how to play KB and walls (and you can sneak with your stealthing to get positioned every time) it's pretty good.

Caltrops will still have a lot of uses. Like, when running away or herding you could cover a door way with them. You could throw them at the feet of a squishie support toon who doesn't have KB to keep them alive. Etc, etc.
In that case, take Targeting Drone and respec out of it later.

Umm... That's exactly what he has in his build. It's in hover.

Many enemies see through Stealth. If you want to toe bomb them (sneak up and Trip Mine) or be able to ninja on past them... you will need Smoke Grenade.
