In the course of *a year*, you'll get 12 x 400 = 4,800 PP, which is more than enough to buy three Boosters worth of stuff. That's 3 Boosters for free.

VIPs get more under FREEDOM than before.
This is exactly the kind of logic that I was initially complaining about. It assumes that whatever examples are being used, in this case boosters, are the only thing to consider. Boosters never contained entire powersets, which are now costing money to play even for VIPs. Powersets that came with expansions previously, also came with new areas, missions, costumes, systems, and game time.

What was all of GR? 30? 40 bucks? How much will just the three new powersets cost?

I'm not saying that Freedom is bad, and I am still subscribed and all. But I'm dubious that the arguments seem to be so aggressive that they come across more as shouting down the dissidents and building straw men than anything else.

Still, I'm looking forward to Tuesday.
  2. One thing that bugs me is seeing people say that if VIPs just wait two months, then the 800 point "premium" power sets are free. But that is only true if you don't want ANYTHING else at all from the store. And I think it is safe to say that almost every costume piece or perk is going to cost points to buy. And that too will be said to be fine, because VIPs will have 400 points a month to play with, so given enough patience, everything will be free.

But it really seems like not much will be free. IMO.
  3. I'm thinking of making an Ice/Time. How does that stand up vs a Fire/Time? I've never played an Ice corr, how is the endurance compared to Fire? I have too many Fire corrs, but I rarely play them.

It's even worse if, like me, you can justify pretty much all of your level 50 characters having that kind of power. Someone (I think it's the TechBot) had someone else's quote in his sig, to the effect of "Incarnates are farming for threads" or something to that effect, and it's true, more or less. When you design a system specifically intended to be a grind, people WILL burn out, simple as that.

I said it a long time ago that "end game" can never be good, because it has to be either very slow, very difficult or very boring. Ours ended up being all three.

That alone makes it the best Issue within the last year, at least from my perspective
Good god, this. And it isn't even farming I can do when I'm super bored. It is farming I have to do with 40 other douchebags.
  5. Praetoria's first impression was great, but the more I played there, the less I liked it. The worst thing for was the zone layout. There is no reason to make me ninja run for 2 minutes to get from the auction house to the crafting tables.

I can burn out on alts in Praetoria before lvl 10, because everything from going to the market to crafting to defeating a mob feels like it is taking me forever. Add to that the fact that they designed maps that don't look much better but lag so much worse than the older game and it feels close to drudgery.

Seriously, i tend to ignore or largely discount 90% or so of anything she posts that isn't just rewording of official announcements.

A few interesting things at PAX, but i wasn't expecting all that many new reveals this close to i21 release. Most of the near term, almost ready for primetime new stuff has already been revealed to the playerbase.
Since she is one of two posters I have gone out of my way to put on ignore, it is always disheartening when quotes of smilies fill the threads.

Everything will still be 'free' to VIPs but if you want everything now you will need to pay extra. IMO.
I don't know how this could be a serious point, but I am always surprised by posters.

I'm not going to call that stupid, but that makes no sense. Not only are you not giving anything away because you are still charging for it at 400-800, your point seems to be that you don't want to get too much value for money.

This game will drive me away by overcharging me. My subscription and the price of one or two boosters a year is the maximum I am prepared to drop. People crow that we will be losing nothing by staying VIPs, but I expect more than just access to servers and the odd story arc for my sub fee.

VIPs should get a lot. I have my doubts that they will.
  8. I agree with whoever called Pratorea a slog. I only solo, and while I can do it, I get tired of it sooooo much faster. Add to that the fact that Pratorea lags a lot more than the older zones for me and the terrible, terrible layout of the maps (really? I have to ninja run for 2 minutes between the market and the crafting table?) makes me not want to go back very often.

After a couple missions in Pratoria, I want to do something else.
  9. Nope. If no one complains then improvements won't be made. Especially considering this is about real world money. They are not here to be our friends, they are here to do their jobs. And their jobs is to get as much money from us as possible.

It isn't hard for me not to read the threads that don't interest me.
  10. there is still no option for the female boots in "tucked in" menu. This would be nice if it was fixed.

    Lfg

You know, the lfg worked really well for me the first couple weeks it was out. The trials were a pain, but I would click it wait 5 or 10 minutes and boom.

I took the wasting my life aspect out of teaming, which is what I hate the most about it.

No offense, but I just don't like hanging out with people in the game. Their banter is not clever for the most part, and number of teams I have been on that spent as much time playing as they did sitting around waiting for something I could count on my one hand.

I get bored of this game 10 times faster when I'm on a team that when I am solo. So the idea of the LFG is great. But it looks like the players have devoted themselves to "working around" it working.

So they wouldn't let us pay for it outright because it would defeat the very purpose it was designed for. If we can simply lay down 10 bucks and be done with it.

    So...

What if they did release an Incarnate booster that inlcuded the armor and aura's but charged $60.00 for it?
That way they wouldn't be giving it away, most people would look at that price and laugh before running a few more trials, but it would give the option for those diehards that really want the stuff without the hassle or simply don't have a 50.
    More money is more money.

Would those in this thread that want a booster be for it if the price was something astronomical? Because that's what they're wanting it to represent both in look and time spent in game.

    Just a thought.
Once we start to break it down in these terms, it makes playing the game at all sound like either a waste of money or a waste of time.

The only reason to pay for something you could spend time slowly accumulating is because value your time more than your money. If you are not having fun and are paying for the privilege, you should stop paying and play something else.

IF that is the case. For me, this might be the case. I'll see, but this debate has brought this into perspective a little bit. I've gone from liking this game out of habit because I like to play it, and breaking my play time in half from what I like to play to trying to get on an iTrial to stand around and hope not to get kicked or not to crash because I want to progress my favorite character.

I'm not threatening to quit, no one would miss me. But the more I think about it, the less I'm stoked I just bought that booster pack.
  13. Given the option, I would rather pay a couple bucks if I wanted it, than have to grind the same tedious 2 or 3 missions for months.

But I don't like grinding or teaming, so maybe they don't want my kind around here.

I dunno, maybe make sure you answer to the question is something you won't forget? Unless I'm mistaken, they give you multiple options for what your question is. I'm sure at least one of those questions would have an answer that won't change and will be memorable.
They actually asked my birthday. It wasn't even a proper security question.

The funny thing is that since I often feel like certain companies (like this one) don't need to know my personal information (more than simply getting paid for their services) years ago I just gave a dummy birthdate.

They did resolve this overnight though, so it wasn't as much of a hassle as it could have been.
  15. Hey, chalk up another irritated customer.

It would be less irritating if it wasn't mostly for show. Like the "do not pirate" screens that appears exclusively on the movies I own.

The only determined person this is going to stop from getting into my account is me.
  16. I wouldn't consider myself an expert but I play my crab way more than any other character and apart from the delightful incarnate content, I exclusively solo.

I know there are a couple different directions to take a crab, but I find that my pets do a lot to make me very survivable. They contribute a surprising amount of dps and serve and helpful distractions that keep everyone in a mob from swamping me.

I do know that if I do go down, I usually go down hard and fast. But I don't go down often.

I actually logged. Since at that point that last thing I wanted to do was spend time with more of these people. Life is too short and too full to waste time, and I had already done that once that day.

Personally, I don't care so much about the team lock feature that is being crowed for. I enjoy this game a lot more when I play solo. But if I am "required" to team with the calm, astute, delightful people in this thread in order to progress my character, I would prefer to do it as simply as possible.

The LFG tool seems like an attempt on the devs to offer such of thing. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe they intended exactly this thread.
  18. I was on one BAF a couple days ago where the "league leader" kicked two full teams worth of people because he just wanted to play with his friends.

That was after waiting around the LFG turned on for 20 minutes and then zoning and then waiting through that endless BAF cutscene. Then watching name after name get kicked until finally, poof.

Let me tell you, that was so much fun. Slogging through the system to get kicked for no reason. Makes me love this community, it does.
  19. Well, the birthers had to turn their attention somewhere...
  20. I will also say that while I'm slowly making process on the one 50 that I'm running incarnate stuff on, I've burned out on this game more in the last week than I have in the last 3 years.

These two trials are already repetitive and this new salvage is more baffling than I can actually believe. I like sitting there trying to figure out which of these rare components I might need in 6 months when I might get to slot a rare into something. But there are something like 40 absurd and arbitrarily named items that I may or may not be able to use, and 5 choices to choose from, none of which are clearly useful to me.

Will someone's advice be to stop playing the game? Yes. I would prefer an option that is still fun though.
  21. I don't know, I can't speak for every player or even two players.

But I just spent a couple hours on the two trials, neither completed, sometimes failed and often it told me I had quit, and it was probably the least fun I've had playing COH in the couple years I've been here.

Mind you, no hyperbole, just the least amount of fun. I'll see how I feel after doing this a couple months.

I died at least 3 times running underneath patches the other day. At least once jumping into one I couldn't see. So yeah, both maneuvers will kill you pretty quick.
  23. Today I ran my first Cuda and the MM had to be convinced to use the temp power. There must have been at least a 20 minute debate about whether all the temp powers were passive after pointlessly beating on Reichsman for god know how long, despite going over that we needed to use temp powers at the beginning of the mission.

We finished in 2 and a half hours.
