Thanks for the advice shinobi, the only reason i took challenge was to keep av's in my rains, and it has helped tremendously on both solo tfs and tfs without player with taunt, i'm curious how you managed to solo the itf without it, it's always part of my regular attack chain versus avs and gms because it always occured to me that the few seconds i lose by casting it more than make up for themselves by keeping the enemy in my patch.
I'll rework the build later today and will surely incorporate some of your advice, the artic fog slotting, and working with agility, tough i'm pretty sure I wont be able to stand losing spring attack, i've had it since the day it came out and really love the power, tough with the new build i will have an extra aoe in the form of soul drain :/. Also, thanks for the info on the ATO, hadn't really read much about em, but it is indeed much better to swap it to blaze, and for the benumb slotted, i already altered that on live but forgot to edit it on here.

So, i've played around with your suggestions, and decided to skip spring attack as you suggested, managed to reach all my objectives while still holding on to challenge. I'm pretty proud of that build, but am still interested to see if anyone has some more comments, or if anyone can tell me a decent strategy to keep avs inside the rain patches without a form of taunt.

Since my problems are deffo of a min/max nature with my edited fire cold build i decided to post it here,
At the moment i have this build on live, it's basicly unstoppable already, i've soloed nearly every av, gm and even did a solo Moitf, anyway, this is the build:

-I've got to sacrifice a travel power ( is travelling with ninja run and speed /other temps doable?)
-I need to sacrifice one of the ice shields (both this and the option before is to make room for another kinetic combat set)
-drop permahasten by using agility instead of spiritual as alpha, and then getting the obliteration set on spring attack
Now, none of these options really appeal to me ( i guess the travel power sacrifice might be most bearable). That's why i came to the forums for help/advice, does anyone see any other options or better ways to make this build work the way i want it? The budget for this is unlimited, there are enhancement boosters for every io, and every alpha choice is viable (i do not want to pick barrier as destiny for the 5% defence tough, rebirth is a lifesaver). Any help would be much appreciated -
I am pretty obsessed with hitting the magic 45% defence softcap on nearly all my toons, and i also wanted it on this fire^3 dom, he's got permadom, permahasten and softcapped smash/lethal defence, but i'm wondering if this time i may have sacrificed to much for it. this is the build i am talking about:

-How is the endusage on this build,i never was to good at attackchain calculations, but the numbers i came up with weren't to good, altough i'd like someone to reexamine that, both in general team situations ( opening witht he aoes and finishing up, with some time between spawns) and more farmlike situations (pumping the aoes)
- Is the fire epic really worth it? i was doubting quite a while to try epic, softcapping would be a breeze and i'd have double rains, but on a longer rech and without the massive dambuff coming from embrace of fire.
- I see many builds with 32.5 % defence, softcapping with one purple, but how viable is a build like that in stuff like soloing tfs? As said all my chars are softcapped for at least smash/lethal, and it would be nice if this dom could do at least the same as my fire/cold, soloing the itf.
-Is permadom without hasten very handy? At the moment this build is some 3 secs off

I was just wondering some things about this build:
-Is thunderstrike as good as it seems on paper or is the longish activation time on it a real handicap in the game?
-Will this build also give me good protection or will i feel the difference in being mezzed or vs certain common enemygroups?
-Will i miss flares? my single attack chain now is flares-fire blast-blaze but i cant often fire it off more than twice, i could always substitute it with fire ball for 1 run of ball-blast-blaze-blast-ball-blaze-blast when facing tough single targets, but will it be good enough?
-Are there any big flaws in my second build that i might have missed?
-If you'd have to pick a build to use, which one would you pick?

I've been thinking of making a new scrapper and chose a kat/ela. I'm having some trouble making a build for him, i want him to be very good allround pve, and inf is not a problem. I got his hasten perma pretty easily and i'm softcapped to melee with one DA, but can i get more out of this char? Also, i'm wondering which alpha to pick, i dont really need recharge i think, endurance is fine too, and i've ,ever really felt the need for extra accuracy, i could pick musculature but might there be a better choice for reasons i'm overlooking? Here's my build, if anyone sees some major flaws, please also point them out to me.

Some of the guys on these boards gave me the idea to start a fire/cold corr, and now, a couple of months later, he solo'd the itf
7 deaths, but that was mostly due to recklessness and the need to figure out how to deal with the autohit nictus. I completed it in 2h10, but that's because i crashed after almost getting the first nictus down, I'm pretty sure that if i don't crash i can get it down till around 1h30. I took down most of the enemy mobs in both mish 1 and 2 ( except ambushes in 2), and worked through general mobs on mish 3 to.

Personally, i wouldn't slot sleet for slow, you already have decnt slow and good knockdown in it, and can couple that with the slow in ice storm, and the def debuff isnt to handy either, tough that's discussable. That said, i would drop 1 enhancement from sleet(slow or def debuff), and replace the other with either another recharge io or a damage io (if you want a high damage io, you could pick the purple damage io, that one's a couple of % higher than a normal damage io)
If you then would put the slot you removed from sleet in artic fog, you are effectivly softcapped, then you can use barrier more as a panic button, as which i find it handier.
You might also want to notice there are a couple of capped bonusses in your build, so it might be handy to remove those, since you're getting nothing of those anyway.
Otherwise it seems a pretty good build tough -
I have a fire/cold corr build that's pretty awesome, i tried to rework it to a ice/cold build and it worked out pretty well. This was done rather quick tough, so there's probably several little things that could be changed as you prefer, but this build now has def softcap to ranged, smash, lethal and energy, has perma hasten with a margin from the tier 3 alpha spiritual onwards, and has decent regen( not so high, so i reccommend taking the heal from the destiny incarnate slot). This build has near perma heatloss so i didn't really build for +recovery, i don't know how it would work with ice/ but i dont have issues with fire as a primary. I did swap around some of your skills tough ( namely the APP), and when i use this build i tend to constantly use hover, which has decent speed. Also, sorry for any mistakes in my english.

Thanks for the replies, i think i will indeed go with mace mastery, it will probably be more effective in the long run
But that said, The last defence-based toons i've played always had some form of healing or regen, is the softcap enough to survive long enough untill the enemies drop down? I know i have extra migation with knockdown in both sleet and fireball, but do youguys think i could use aidself in there to somewhere? Or would the rebirth (the heal and +regen one, not sure if it's named rebirth) incarnate skill be enough to save my *** when it's needed? -

I am planning to make a fire/cold and while designing his build i have started to doubt on ancillary power pools.
If i would go for mace mastery im softcapped for defence for smash, lethal, energy and ranged, and have room for snow storm.
If i would go for power mastery on the other hand, i could get the hugely tempting powerbuild up and have one more spot for either the res shield, the *godmode* or snow storm, while still maintaining the softcap for ranged defence.
I'm wondering what would be most effective in general gameplay( tfs etc, but also with the possibility of me taking the alpha's), and if the answer would be power mastery what of the three skills i should take for the last slot? Both builds otherwise have almost the same build, and both have perma hasten ( with the incarnate slot).

With the aoe buff coming out, i finally decided to roll a /col domination character, something i've always wanted to but i didn't want to buff ( i once had a kin and i still have nightmares of people asking for sb, but once every 4 minutes isnt as bad with the ice shields)
I made a perma pa/heat loss build with softcap for smash, lethal and ranged, but i have some doubts about some effects from the powers.
-Is spectral terror skippable? Atm i took recall friend in my build instead of it ( i'm gonna be on tf's with this char mostly), i tought it might not be to effective between the combo of sleet ( once every 14 seconds) and ice storm ( once every 30 or so seconds). I was thinking of taking flash instead tough.
-How does the reactive proc from interface work with phantom army? Does it get a chance every attack or once every 10 seconds? (and chance for buildup is fixed for phantom army? 'caus ei remember alot of talk about this some time ago)
-Does a phantom attack continously? I mean, does he hit a attack every 2 seconds or so or does he only fire of an attack every 5 or so seconds?
-What is the actual damage of a phantom army guy in the game? At lv 50 and slotted for example, how big a chunk of hp does one attack of him take/how many hits to kill a minion/lt
-I know that phantom army is seen as best for single targets, but how do they fare against a bit bigger groups? Say solo against about 10 enemies: will it take ages or will they be able to take them down relativly quickly?
-This is the first ever build i took hover on, what speeds do i need to aim at for it to be good to keep toggled on between groups of enemies? (according to mids i have 31.7 mph atm)
-How much accuracy does benumb need? In the build i made i slotted it with 1 accuracy ( and 1 rech) and i have 59% global accuracy bonus, is that enough to hit the tougher targets reliably?
-And lastly, how usefull is the phantasm in battle? is he very knockback happy or can he more or less control it? ( this is my initial reason to take hover to, if he uses the knockback to much i could always hover overhead of the enemies to reduce the spreadout effect)

The build above was completely made with the tought in mind of how this character plays, with this blaster i can take the attacks long enough to kill everything, i often even tank with this blaster. Hail of bullets is ready every mob, unless the team is very fast, this means that between hail of bullets and one cycle of my aoes ( usually i dont even use psychic scream, but just fire off bullet rain and psw) nothing under a boss is still standing, at that point the only thing you need to kill the boss is high single target damage ( executioner's shot is a big part in this).
You have a point that executioner's shot can overkill, but if you learn when to use it, and what to target with it, the overkill hardly ever happens anymore. It can also oneshot a minion, which can be extremely handy ( sappers, cimeroran surgeons). The range shouldn't be a problem tough, 'cause when you play a dp/mm blaster and you aren't in melee range you generally aren't as effective as you could be (psw, drain psyche, HoB). Perhaps that pistols is indeed better from a pure dps stance of view, or as an avkiller, but the fact that this char can solo a pylon with his singletarget damage (no insp, no incarnate pets) is good enough for me.
Yes, i have 13 slotted attacks of which 5 are set mules which aren't used (i needed the kinetic combat to softcap my smash/lethal). A smash/lethal softcap for a blaster like this is extremely powerfull, so i gladly offered slots for that. Of the remaining 8 attacks there are only 2 that don't get used to often, but they are part of a psi attack chain which proves very usefull in certain tfs ( cimeroran eb's, marauder in lambda). I don't see how i can reach the softcap for defence and still be able to handle almost every situation the game throws at me without most of the attacks that are in the build now. -
If you don't mind a bit long activation times and redraw then dp/mm is a beast. I have one at lv 50 and it's one of the strongest characters i've ever seen.
A dp/mm is meant for melee, take every (pb)aoe you can get and never look back, you'll get used to redraw soon enough. It can also be handy to have a mm attack chain and a dp attack chain, so that when you use a mental attack you can fire off a couple of more good skills instead of immediatly having to switch back to dp for doing damage.
Your power choice looks pretty good, don't drop executioner's shot as the poster above me suggests tough, it's gonna be one of your best attacks for your single target ranged chain ( i use dual wield-exec-dual wield-piercing-dual wield)
This is my build, it has cast me about 8 bil inf, but you can reach the s/l def softcap for around a bil already. The build has softcapped smash/lethal and perma hasten, you do need at least one target in drain psyche tough, otherwise you cant keep up your end for a long fight.

I'm making a mind/thorns dom and looking at permadom ( and even a little more) lvs of recharge. On my current build i have 133.8% recharge, 25% smash/lethal/energy defence and 15ish ranged defence. Got one powerpick and a couple of slots left. I was wondering: when you reach the permadom lv 3 , why throw hasten out? Hasten for me will be perma with 5 secs to spare and only one extra slot used.In the end, it still reduces the rech on skills like mass hypnosis by 2 secs or so, so why leave out hasten when it's so easily perma'd?

Thanks for the reply already but i'm gonna change my question a little. I've found a brute on another server thats's lv 35 now ( almost the same as my fire/sd), but hes a fire/inv. What would be most suited for general gameplay? I don't intend to pvp, just mainly do tf's and solo missions or hunt for badges.

I've returned to the game after about 4 months of rest. I decided to start a brute again, fm/sd. I also started making a build for him but i've been having alot of trouble with that. I don't have an unlimited amount of money but i've still made a build without budget limit because i intend it to be a longterm project. I certainly want the softcap on all three positional defences. Next to that i want good aoe's and st damage and decent recharge. I don't want hasten if it's not perma, i've got a ss/sd brute and i just hate the hasten+rage crashes. This is what i've come up with so far but i don't know how effective it will be, can anyone take a look at it?

I'd like to make a new character and since im normally into brutes i think the smashy earth assault set is just right for me. I don't know what to pair it with tough, is mind/earth any good? also, would mind earth be a combo worth it to make permadom? And hows mud pots in the game? seems bad on paper, and what attacks are skippable in earth assault ( or the suggested primary).

Hello everyone, i'm thinking of making a assault rifle/rad corr. When i wanted to make the build on mids i noticed some stuff i'd like to ask.
Does the defence shield from the poatron powers accept resistance sets? ( mids sais it gives toxic res but cant be slotted for it)
Is the combo of recall friend- fallout-mutation good ingame or just on paper?
Is there an aoe i could skip from the primary ( I have a rather big shortage of power picks when making this guys build)
I'm going to solo and team, can i skip burst or slug or do i need them both?(talking about lv 50, not about leveling up)
I'm aiming this to be a very expensive build, hasten and am perma, after the recharge i can't seem to fit in softcapped defence, what defence should i be aiming for?

Looks like a good build to me. A few minor changes i would make is to change one of the endmods in stamina into the performance shifter proc. You could also take an accuracy from slash or strike to get another obliteration for the recharge. Personally i think it's a shame to slot followup with gaussians but the set bonuses are good, but if you're going for increased surviveability anyway you could aswell drop assault and take tactics instead, toss around a few slots and slot tactics with gaussians and followup with a (rechbased) meleeset

I made a claws/inv build for my new brute, i have+72.5% global recharge, wich leaves my hasten at 138 seconds. With hasten running dull pain has 112 seconds recharge and without hasten running dull pain has 143 s recharge, if i complete this build in the agme, will my dull pain be permanent or will there be certain gaps in hasten crashes?

Ok so I startd boh mind/ice and mind/thorns and played them upto lv 15ish. I've searched the boards and haven't found a single thread about mind/thorns. Is it something to really shy away from? ( if it's because of the redraw i don't mind really)

Thanks for all the replies. I've well considered all fo the secondaries now and the ones im doubting between are earth ice ( or maybe psi). So my final question would be wich of these two ( or three) secondaries would be most usefull for a mind dominator? mainly in the endgame and on teams.
