Ice/Cold slotting help!

Ok so i havent played since the incarnates were introduced...and now im back! and i feel its time to dust off some 50's and roll some new toons! that being said i thought i'd try my hand at a Corruptor since its one of the few AT's i havent really taken past level 10.

Now ive practically got all the powers that i plan on having for the build...the only problem is where to go from there and how to slot said powers. I'm given to understand that /Cold needs hefty amounts of +recharge so i guess that'll be a starting point. Also any kinda positional or typed defense would be an asset yes? so basically im just looking at any advice about the slotting of the powers that i have in order to achieve massive recharge and some decent defense. If there is anything else people would like to add feel free...the more advice the better to maximise this toons strengths.

Note: I'am undecided on the patron powers...is it worth switching it to dark and getting a reduced recharge time soul drain or not? im open to any kinda thoughts...

There are a lot of ways to build a /Cold Corr. Like you said, the starting, and most important step is lots of recharge. Because of Heatloss, you can cut around quite a few edges with Recovery. Try not to make it to where you're TOTALLY dependant on Heatloss. But you can still cut recovery a little slack.
As for defence, there are many ways to do it, and all of them work. You can go for S/L defence, or you can go for S/L/E defence (well, both ways you're gonna end up with sizeable Energy Defence due to the fact that the Corrs' only defence shield has all 3), or you can full ranged defence. While Soul Mastery is usually good, it's not necessary on an Ice/ corr, plus Dark Mastery has a much better recharge on Soul Drain. My Advice, though, is to actually go for an epic that won't force you into Melee at all like Soul Drain would.

Thanks for that Wanted
good to know im on the right train of thought about slotting...which means alot to think about:P
I know Soul Mastery wasn't necessary but i thought a little extra damage boost couldnt hurt...or is that overkill? but also too, if i were to choose Dark or Soul...is practically wasting 2 power picks to get to Soul Drain with Dark even worth it? even with its reduced recharge?
apart from those...i could stay thematic and go Leviathan...the shield and hibernate would work nicely...and having a pet every now and then wouldnt be so bad...right?:P

Ice and Cold powers looks to be the one you should take. You could skip armors and/or Frostwork if you arent a teamplayer but they both are amazing buffs (Frostwork is generally very underrated).

I would really go for Mace Mastery on patron simply because with /Cold Sorpion Shield pretty much caps you for S/L/E with SOs. Than either Web Envelope for cheap'ish 5slots purples or Web Cocoon for 4x Basiliks Gaze. Since Web Envelope is pretty counter productive with Sleet I like the later better. Freeze Ray + Cocoon will also hold bosses very fast.

Disruptor (pet) let you slot for x4 Expedient Reiforcement and is pretty much perma with a descent build.

I haven't built for any defense at all and I wonder sometimes what I am missing. I went leviathan because I love the shark hold. I have hibernate for post-stunt survival and plenty of end and recharge from my slotting. I die often enough to keep me learning and when I do die it's because I tried something awesome. Having barrier up often means my best tricks like running in and crapping out sleet+heatloss+ice storm+blizzard no longer result in my horrific demise.

what barrier are you referring to Emberly? but i do agree...jumping into the middle of a pack and unleashing the mayhem without dying will be a huge advantage for me.
so it seems its going to be a toss up between Leviathan and Mace mastery...unless i can get crazy recharge to use Soul and not gimp myself on defense:P

Barrier meaning the Barrier destiny incarnate slot. Good hunk of +def and +resist for enough time to wreck some stuff real good.

oh nice! is it a click power? or constant buff?
i'll definitely look into the incarnates with this particular toon though...havent actually got the hang of all of it yet, as i did my 1st trial yesterday:P (been away from the game during the incarnate inclusions so...got some catching up to do)

ok so i tried Soul mastery just to see what it would look like...but im still far short of any soft capped defenses or +recovery...*sigh* im more than willing to throw Leviathan or Mace in there instead for those 3 powers from 41 too 47...

how do people juggle soft capped defense with crazy recharge??

I have a fire/cold corr build that's pretty awesome, i tried to rework it to a ice/cold build and it worked out pretty well. This was done rather quick tough, so there's probably several little things that could be changed as you prefer, but this build now has def softcap to ranged, smash, lethal and energy, has perma hasten with a margin from the tier 3 alpha spiritual onwards, and has decent regen( not so high, so i reccommend taking the heal from the destiny incarnate slot). This build has near perma heatloss so i didn't really build for +recovery, i don't know how it would work with ice/ but i dont have issues with fire as a primary. I did swap around some of your skills tough ( namely the APP), and when i use this build i tend to constantly use hover, which has decent speed. Also, sorry for any mistakes in my english.

Personally, i wouldn't slot sleet for slow, you already have decnt slow and good knockdown in it, and can couple that with the slow in ice storm, and the def debuff isnt to handy either, tough that's discussable. That said, i would drop 1 enhancement from sleet(slow or def debuff), and replace the other with either another recharge io or a damage io (if you want a high damage io, you could pick the purple damage io, that one's a couple of % higher than a normal damage io)

If you then would put the slot you removed from sleet in artic fog, you are effectivly softcapped, then you can use barrier more as a panic button, as which i find it handier.

You might also want to notice there are a couple of capped bonusses in your build, so it might be handy to remove those, since you're getting nothing of those anyway.

Otherwise it seems a pretty good build tough

I wouldn't necessarily drop any slots, from sleet, but I would get the recharge higher. Recharge is a lot more important that slow or defense debuff in Sleet because the power will stack with itself, and is bugged so that you won't get the full effect. (Read my guide under Freezing Rain for details. Sleet is exactly the same as Freezing Rain for Corruptors, so the debuff numbers in the guide will be different, but otherwise, everything is the same). There is no purple damage proc that can be slotted in sleet (Ragnarok is a knockdown, not a damage proc, and is useless), again I would refer you to the guide in my sig for guidance on choosing procs. But I wouldn't start proccing out Freezing Rain until you had at least 2 IO's worth of recharge.

You could also consider pulling a defense/endurance slot from one of the ice shields to put in artic fog to achieve this, since with buffs becoming AoE in i20.5, endurance should be much less of a problem.

I would also probably try to get some knockback protection in there. I would definitely put a Blessing of the Zephyr, KB protection in Superspeed and might even consider pulling another slot from one of the shields for a second KB proc in Arctic Fog.

One final thought. Although it doesn't matter that much with heatloss, with 2 slots invested in Stamina/Health, optimal slotting for endurance recovery would be The Numina and Miracle unique and health, a perfomance shifter endurance, and +end in Stamina. But with heat loss that's sort of irrelevant, and you can stay with the cheaper sets. Alternatively, you could also choose to steal lots from here to stick other places. Just 2 slots in stamina, and the Miracle in Health.
