I'm back with another idea! :P
ive been seeing alot of Elec builds over on the Dom forums so i thought...how about a Elec/Kin troller? sounds like a really good team combo...not so sure about solo though...any thoughts?
lastly...Elec/Fire Dom...what say you? -
Well...it seems im going to roll an Ice/Fire Dom after that!
but on the same token...i need to make a Plant/?...its the only primary i havent really dived into...so i think im going to go Plant/Kin/Fire as an alternate to my new Ice/Fire/Fire project! because also ive just...wanted...to have a Plant/Kin
Thank you once again Tex -
Thank you for that build Tex
personally i think you've nailed it...doesnt really need any tweaking apart from as you said...combat jumping.
how do you think ice/ competes with plant/ on a side note? i mean apart from less damage...the bonus seems to be a perma and portable confuse...*shrugs*
btw you dont have a plant/fire video do you? or anyone else for that matter? -
Just wanna say great Ice/Fire Dom Tex
never even thought about that combo before as Ice/ seems to get a bad wrap...but watching your vids has inspired me...AND it looks really fun to play too! least i hope so:P -
Wow! a lot of support for /Storm...i might have to really consider that now
i mean i have a Earth/Storm at 40 and just loved the lockdown...but he's in mothballs now so...:P
fire/storm and plant/storm sound great though! i cant seem to pull away from the idea of a plant/kin or plant/fire dom though...XD help. -
Quote:This is trueFire is a good control set, but to make best use if it, you have to go into melee. Since you want to stay out of melee, then Fire, Ice and Elec are probably not the best sets.
i guess i didn't clarify enough though. I don't exactly wan't to stay out of melee, i just didn't want a melee attack focused toon is all. It's like im not after a toon that is purely "ima cut your face off!" or "ima punch your head in!" which is why i outed the melee AT's. I don't mind at all the melee attacks (or melee playstyle) within the Dom sets or Controller sets or even the Blaster sets...hell...they add to the flavour of the AT. My current project is a DP/MM blaster which is all about being up close and personal so thats definitely not a problem
but sorry...just had to clarify:P
Of the ones you mentioned though, Plant/Kin has always interested me...seems a little bit more work since no damage aura...but has the added safety of SoC...Plant definitely a contender here. Plant/Fire anyone?
Fire/? Corruptor also sounds good too...i actually made a Fire/Dark a little while back...got to about 27 and then...just deleted him to make room for another idea i had:P might make him again and see what happens. Either that or Fire/Cold or Kin?
keep them coming guys...any great experience/love with a particular toon? -
Ok so...my altitus is playing up again, or moreso...im trying to find just a real fun toon to play through all the way to 50...and then really enjoy the incarnates with it. I thought i'd put this in the Controller forums because im looking for inspiration or experience other players have had that was really enjoyable or STILL is enjoyable to them.
The only catch though...it can't be a melee based toon...so scrapper, tanker, stalker, brute and Epic AT's are all out.
I'm looking for a ranged/control toon...that not only feels powerful...but IS powerful, specially at end game...also...team friendly because i love to team...but also able to solo farm...not brute or kin fast...but well...
from what ive been reading though as a side note...the plant/kin troller and plant/fire dom are a blast to play...i just dont know why yet:P
so please...any personal experience or input welcome

Here's my intended build for what its worth...since i dont like ice cosmetically i went with force mastery...but i'll prolly respec if i work out a build that works the way i want it too...atm the build below is 34.6% to ranged...as at least in my experience with this blaster...its the only damage that outright kills me. Now you might wonder "why not softcap it?" well...1. thats really hard for the powers i have and 2. its called a luck...not a big deal...especially since i would lessen the effectiveness of my attacks by doing so...and i'd rather have more recharge and close to softcapped defenses than softcapped defenses and no recharge...at least with this blasters playstyle:P
but i digress...enjoy and feel free to comment

leading the mob with HoB will wipe the minions in itself...and then BR will take the Lt's down a peg if not have them on deaths door...and then PSW will do the rest...so you'll just have the bosses to deal with...so cone away and use your singles target to bring them down...and if your recharge is good...more PSW ofcourse
-
Just a quick add on here...as im leveling one of these currently because ive heard good things about them. (and also witnessed with awe at what they're capable of)
is the main goal to achieve s/l cap or is the ranged cap instead also viable? it just seems you limit the damage potential of your attacks but trying to get to the s/l softcap...also too, WoC should cover anything within melee range right? provided good slotting for it ofcourse...
i mean to me...you wanna make the most out of HoB, BR, DP, PSW and WoC...all the while not gimping your other attacks. These are the tools you succeed with as this type of blaster...to me at least.
so is the ranged cap a viable and survivable way to go? -
*checks out Micro's guide* some very sound advice in there, thank you for that! im no stranger to /elec though as i made a DM/Elec scrapper reach mid 30's...just lost touch with him so i stopped playing...but im definitely willing to go the whole nine yards with this toon regardless of how hard it might be in the early levels
like Werner said...its about the destination rather than the journey...even though i wouldnt mind a decent journey too
thank you everybody with your input...its given me alot to think about...which is good...i need to hear these things. So in saying that and taking in what you guys have said...i'm going to narrow it down to Willpower, Electric Armour and Shield Defense.
Willpower for its wide variety of defense, resist, regen and recovery
Elec for its huge resists, end management and damage aura/end drainer
Shield Defense for well...its awesomeness? jka combination of defense and resists with an added AoE which BS lacks, also a damage buff aura.
so...decisions decisions...you know i could narrow it down to 2, and roll one of each and see? honestly if i can find a good concept i'd definitely try /SD again...but i think /Elec has so much potential...high resists across the board plus if built right...you add in capped S/L defense or even AoE, Ranged and let Parry handle your Melee Defense...i dont know about you guys but that sounds pretty awesome to me...thoughts? -
Having not rolled a melee toon in a while i thought i'd jump back into the fray with a new scrapper!
I have decided on BS for the primary as ive always wanted Disembowel and HS for a toon...and ofcourse to see what all the fuss is about:P
I tried pairing it with /SD a while back but never got him past the late teens...maybe the concept wasnt all there...but pre lvl 26 was a chore so i canned him before then.
So now im looking for advice on what works well with BS/...
out of the available secondaries i'm looking at WP, Invul, Elec, Regen. I would also consider SD but as a last resort as ive played alot of SD...its awesome i know...i love it...but i dont think i can handle this toon having a shield also...cosmetically ofcourse.
I'am slightly leaning towards /Elec because it seems different and rare, at least to couple it with BS. i would love to hear of anyone that has one of these and what their take is on it
apart from that...throw ideas at me guys...anything. pros and cons of the listed secondaries and how they might or might not work well with BS/
regards
Fox -
ok so how about now?
i went for max recharge and near softcapped defenses...but i figured that coupled with the Barrier destiny it wont be a problem...
tell me what you think guys!

ok so i tried Soul mastery just to see what it would look like...but im still far short of any soft capped defenses or +recovery...*sigh* im more than willing to throw Leviathan or Mace in there instead for those 3 powers from 41 too 47...
how do people juggle soft capped defense with crazy recharge??

oh nice! is it a click power? or constant buff?
i'll definitely look into the incarnates with this particular toon though...havent actually got the hang of all of it yet, as i did my 1st trial yesterday:P (been away from the game during the incarnate inclusions so...got some catching up to do) -
Quote:what barrier are you referring to Emberly? but i do agree...jumping into the middle of a pack and unleashing the mayhem without dying will be a huge advantage for me.Having barrier up often means my best tricks like running in and crapping out sleet+heatloss+ice storm+blizzard no longer result in my horrific demise.
so it seems its going to be a toss up between Leviathan and Mace mastery...unless i can get crazy recharge to use Soul and not gimp myself on defense:P -
Thanks for that Wanted
good to know im on the right train of thought about slotting...which means alot to think about:P
I know Soul Mastery wasn't necessary but i thought a little extra damage boost couldnt hurt...or is that overkill? but also too, if i were to choose Dark or Soul...is practically wasting 2 power picks to get to Soul Drain with Dark even worth it? even with its reduced recharge?
apart from those...i could stay thematic and go Leviathan...the shield and hibernate would work nicely...and having a pet every now and then wouldnt be so bad...right?:P -
Ok so i havent played since the incarnates were introduced...and now im back! and i feel its time to dust off some 50's and roll some new toons! that being said i thought i'd try my hand at a Corruptor since its one of the few AT's i havent really taken past level 10.
Now ive practically got all the powers that i plan on having for the build...the only problem is where to go from there and how to slot said powers. I'm given to understand that /Cold needs hefty amounts of +recharge so i guess that'll be a starting point. Also any kinda positional or typed defense would be an asset yes? so basically im just looking at any advice about the slotting of the powers that i have in order to achieve massive recharge and some decent defense. If there is anything else people would like to add feel free...the more advice the better to maximise this toons strengths.
Note: I'am undecided on the patron powers...is it worth switching it to dark and getting a reduced recharge time soul drain or not? im open to any kinda thoughts...

thanks in advance guys
Fox -
love it chaos
the perfect tweaking to suit the build and my play style.
I should have slotted my holds for damage all along...after all its what a splattroller does best right? -
Wow my proc placing is really fail isnt it?:P
I was throwing procs around to see what might fit...but i guess none of them do:P
but thats a downer that the AA proc is bugged...i was hoping for a little -tohit from Fissure would help with survivability...but unfortunately not. At least now thanks to you 2 i have a better understanding of where procs are best used.
so ive learned something here which is great, so i think i'll go tweak some more from what you guys said and see what I come up with.
once again thanks very much
Fox -
Thanks for that guys!
Local you made a great point about the Chance for Hold procs...i guess i was trying to get more "hold" outta them...but since thats not really the case i added the Ghost Widows Embrace damage proc instead...better?
Ketch, thanks for the advice on CC...i really had nowhere to go...but what you said seems sound enough to me. I wasnt really sure how slotting affects all the pseudo-pets CC throws out but now i have more of an idea so thank you
i decided to change ancillary's though...to make it easier to reach softcap s/l...this is what ive come up with...

help XD -
ok so never having had a Plant/ troller past lvl 8, but seeing what io'd out lvl 50 Plant/Kins' are capable of, i really want to make a go of making one of these myself...so...this is what ive come up with through extensive reading and lurking of the forums:P
1 concern though...ive just no idea how to slot Carrion Creepers...?? so any help there especially would be great.
this toon is meant to be a splattroller as thats my kinda playstyle for a controller...was the reason why my 1st controller was a fire/kin...i love being in the face of every conflict

so with that...my question is (apart from the above about CC):
how does plant/kin compare to a fire/kin? ie damage output, control, speed through mobs...
and aside from that i would love any advice/questions/queries on power choices...slotting etc...as im really ADD about it:P
Thanks in advance,
Fox -
May i throw MA/SD in the mix? the new improvements have made MA almost unrivalled in ST burst damage...at least according to my work in mids:P
the build i worked up admittedly has a 20% global damage buff...but even still...with an unsaturated AAO and no Focus Chi cycle ive got Storm Kick producing 248.38 damage. It only goes up from there...
dont forget...these are Mids numbers...in game might vary -
Quote:Well ive definitely preferred High ST numbers than spawn killers...ive never been one for making farmers...as long as the melee toons i make survive the mobs...and deals High ST damage along the way...im happyAnyways, EM is a single hard target take down expert. If that fits your play style it's a good set - smashing and energy damage are less commonly resisted than lethal. If you prefer to see entire spawns die horribly at once it's a terrible set.
I too have an /EM tanker...48 currently...and yeah, the build up cycle is beautiful...its kinda the reason why i made an EM tanker...for SOME WHAT NEAR scrapper level damage...and the survivability of well...a tank:P
so i think unless anyone has anything devastating to say about this EM/ELEC combo...? i might go and roll one! -
