... Kings Row had.... well NOTHING in it? Only contacts. No stores, no helicopter, no market, no AE...
...there were no capes, because we didn't "have the tech working JUST right yet"?
...the Paragon Dance Party was hidden, and only certain people knew where to find it? Not surprisingly, it was almost always empty....
....there were no villains except the NPCs?
...you could go into Peregrine Island and NOT see a ton of very short "texting" messages float across your screen from people that were doing the same thing over and over?
....learning "window hopping" to get to the only places where CoT would spawn... at night on King's Row rooftops?
....Hami-Os were the coolest, rarest, and most powerful things around, and you were awed every time you saw one?
...the only "stuff" that you got you either earned yourself, or you traded directly with another character for?
...Outbreak had a final police officer instead of Coyote, and there was no Flower Knight?
...trading large amounts of influence was a pain in the butt, but it wasn't too bad, because it didn't happen often?
...City of Blasters allowed us all to hover WAY out of the range of enemies and destroy them with no retaliation?
...Wolf herding and dumpster nuking?
...NPC bugs that made them keep running up and jumping off of that same Kings Row "basement door" over and over again?
What are your memories, of the "good old days" when things were simpler? -
Welcome back, now we need to get you a new avatar, that one is nice and all, but it simply won't do. CoH is all about uniqueness!
Someone needs to volunteer, as I already did the last one. -

Oh one of those guide writers...

TheMightyStorm didn't "write guides" TheMightyStorm plucked words out of the wilds of the English language, smashed them into submission, and taught them how to play RIDE OF THE VALKYRIES with their TONSILS! -

To the idea. No. Why?
Because City of Heroes is advertised and has as the heart and soul of the game the idea that Paragon City is.... "where YOU can be, a Hero!" This suggests a classless society, where anyone, ANYONE can come out of nowhere and do heroic things, no matter who you are.
As soon as you start making statues or plaques or whatever for this hero or that hero, you immediately create a class system, where some are "more heroic" or "more important" than others.
Here I am, logging into the game where "*I* am a Hero!" and what do I see in front of me? A statue or a plaque to another player or group of players. Kinda makes me feel like a jerkwad in tights.... especially cause I'm new and they have years ahead of me in "cred".
No, this game works just fine as it is right now, where the ONLY "extra special" heroes are NPCs. Don't place some players above others, ever, or else you'll find a whole lot of people going away.
This works in a fantasy or sci-fi MMO because you're just one of a dozen or more elves or mercaneries that look almost identical apart from the armor you're wearing, but in THIS game, it's all about making the player, YOU, feel special and unique and individual. That's why we have so many options to customize our characters, both in power and in look... to make US feel special and unique.
As soon as another player is raised above the rest, you're no longer a special and unique hero, you're just another grunt running around in tights. -

Okay, I'll concede that but raise you that you're doing it to your melee teammates.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't do that to my melee partners. I don't knock back anything I can't kill unless I think they're going to die. If you knock back your melee ally's target, UR DOING IT RONG!
I even say as much in my guide. I'm sorry that you've teamed with so many that are apparently horrible at using knockback Turbo. It must have left a bad taste in your mouth. -
[ QUOTE ]
However it's worse than fear since it requires you to chase down foes after its use making it consisting outrange your short to mid range attacks.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wow, you never really HAVE used knockback on anything but a melee toon, have you? I've NEVER been unable to finish a mob because they were knocked "too far back", my powers could ALWAYS reach, all of them. If your experiences have been somehow to the contrary, then UR DOIN IT RONG!
The comment about it being more like Fear is accurate, however. -

FF has damage mitigation powers too, but are largely situational
[/ QUOTE ]
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight.... sure. -
[ QUOTE ]
I only tossed in Cold's debuffs since FF doesn't have any
[/ QUOTE ]
I consider knockback to be a debuff. Let me rephrase that, I consider knockback to be a 4-6 second HOLD, as the enemies can't attack. -
I'm disappointed! I came in here expecting an enchilada! Now I leave even more hungry than I was before!
Anyways...
*skims over wall of text*
Wow.... maybe I should rename my Force Fielder's Bible into a Force Fielder's Pamphlet? It pales in comparison to the bloviation in this guide! Bravo, Lumi, bravo! -
[ QUOTE ]
Next we have defenders. For a lazy primary there is simply nothing that compares to Force Fields. Every 4 minutes you have to refresh bubbles on the team and then go back to reading your novel. Electrical Blast wins out for defenders with the same slacker powers and approach as for the lazy Blaster. (Short Circuit is one of the greatest powers in the game even if you are not looking to play the low intensity way.)
[/ QUOTE ]
As a 5 year FF/Elec Defender, I have only one thing to say about this....
...you're right on.
I admit it! Many, many play sessions before I switched from Freedumb to Protector, involved me casting the bubbles, putting Short Circuit on auto, and then turning on my TV to Adult Swim.
Good Times.
EDIT: Thanks to whoever bumped this, or I might not have ever seen it. -
While I DO love this server about a thousand times better than Freedumb, I do miss the constant teaming aspect. So I created an SG to try to resolve this.
Anyone that loves to team can join the..... Teamsters!
Yes, I thought it was a silly pun. Here are the "rules"
<ul type="square">[*]Any Member can invite anyone else to become a Member![*]You start as a Member, then when teaming with a Captain (third rank) or higher for more than an hour, you can get promoted to Teamster (second rank). Why do you want to be a Teamster? Because all Members can do is chat in Coalition and invite other people. Teamsters can also take from the SG base's storage. (Once we get a base...)[*]We encourage teaming, the bigger the team the better! When you see another Teamster online, send them a message![*]There is no rule 4[*]Captain and higher status can be achieved by being a frequent chatter on Jello Shooters! We gotta know you peoples![/list]Anyone that wants in, just message me @Westley, or ask in the Jello Shooters channel when I'm online. Once I get a few people invited, it will mostly run itself. Once I have someone interested in making a base, I'll promote them to the right level. I have no interest in base design or management. -

The forums are acting kind of goofy right now. He might want to try again tomorrow after about noon.

The purpose of my guide wasn't to say that everyone should take every power, it was to prove and to show that there are no "useless" powers in the set. Every power has many uses, and every power has many places where they would be useful. However, not every person will use every power or find every power useful to THEM.
As an example, I usually respec OUT of Force Bolt once I can get Repulsion Field, and treat myself AS the Force Bolt and at the same time use the RF as my own personal Defense shield. Many other people instead never pick up RF and use Force Bolt exclusively. Different strokes for different folks.
Finally, If you have one "SO" worth of Endurance Reduction in every power, that can certainly compensate for not having Stamina. -
No thank you, my time is more valuable to me than the little bit of influence I would save using this method.
I have a simpler method: If it's a common IO recipe or enhancement that drops, I sell it to the vendor. Everything else goes on the Market. Works for me. -
Brilliant as usualy Jock. Maybe also a subtle hint for me that it's time for me to go take a nap, heh. I'm sure that wasn't your intention though.
EDIT: First after Jock! -
Is it just me, or does this one seem just as long as the "double sized" issue from last time?

5. It STILL sounds a lot like a thinly-veiled level cap increase demand.
[/ QUOTE ]
Different game != level cap increase. I do NOT want a level cap increase. I like CoH exactly as it is now. I'm suggesting a "sequel" game that would pick up where the first game left off.
Your other points (1 and 3) are valid, however. -
[ QUOTE ]
level cap increase does nothing. Why not just make a brand new game and involve everyone as opposed to the few who have a 50.
[/ QUOTE ]
Apparently you didn't read the whole thread, that's exactly what I'm suggesting, NOT a level cap increase. I did offer that people be allowed to "make 50s" from the start. Therefore anyone could join in.
