Quote:No, because that would be cruel to Vista. ;-)Wait, waitwaitwait WAIT...
Are you saying this new one is worse than Vista? D= Because that's a whole new level of evil...
EDIT: Let me put it this way, would you want to play CoX on a Windows Phone?
Note: When I first bought this Vista release laptop I Upgraded to XP. ^.^ -
I'm wondering if this hasn't caused many of the odd problems that have been posted over the past month or so?

Quote:Well that's great to hear. Windows loves to get screwy now and then after so much use between cleanings. *goes to check own settings*Yes, that is the card I have. I uninstalled and reinstalled and it appears to work now. But for some reason in Device Manager under Sound, I have 8 "NVIDIA High Difinition Audio" devices. Not sure what the differences between any of them are except there are 2 each that say location 0-3.

Quote:Meh, I intentionally park a toon of that level range in that spot for that reason!Yet another trip to the wasteland that is Port Oakes (seriously, Atlas Park is far more connected than PO) prompted me to think "What could be done to make paying the base upkeep better?"

I'm pretty sure that a key reason for the change in how/where rent is paid should be to allow the Preems/Freebs help out!

Go play with the nearest Windows Phone and you'll get a GOOD idea as to how much "fun" Windows 8 interaction will be....and then remember that you'll have to do that with a Mouse and Keyboard!!!

Quote:Don't worry, my parents too stock in correction ribbon Just for me! ;-)I don't claim to be an expert, but wouldn't using a typewriter barrage the screen with the metal ink-covered arms every time you tried to type something? I admit it's been a very long time since I used a typewriter (freaking school science project requiring everything in type at a time when my actual printer had just corked it)

Quote:Eh, I was probably going cross-eyed from reading through the forums? IDK, I thought I'd reread it enough to make sure you hadn't already said it before I posted. oh well. :-pDid you read the first part of my post before editing it? I'll highlight the relevant part in green for you.
So what in my post (without creative editing to make it seem otherwise) made you think I was implying that prestige a character earned was transferable from one SG to another? I believe what I was pretty clear that characters don't take prestige with them from one SG to another. -
Ok, so we're talking about THIS card right? Are you using the SLI functionality of the card? If you are then I have no idea how to test for anything related to that. Any chance we can get a screenshot of what's listed under your sound devices in Windows Device Manager? What about your Sound Control Panel options, what sound device is listed as your default playback device? Mine has the choice between Speakers and SPDIF (the HDMI). For some reason I've noticed that my system makes me change these manually now when switching to HDMI.
In the meantime, you could try fully uninstalling your nvidia HD Audio drivers using what's referenced here. Then delete all of the sound devices that are listed in Device Manager. Reboot, let windows load drivers on its own. If it can't reinstall all the drivers, then manually install them again using your installation CD. Cross a few fingers, test, and let us know! -
Quote:This is very true (IE: I forgot about it) and you also have to keep in mind what the motherboard is capable of as well.You might want to check out the max addressible memory for the CPU as well
I think the 3rd generation I7s can still only support 32Gb if you want higher than that you will be looking at Xeons or multiprocessor MBs.
others are lower
e.g. for an I7 860 its 16Gb

Quote:Well I gave you teh registry version of the custom properties so you don't need both. Go ahead and clear that out of the advanced settings and try again. That should do anything different, but still. Looking at it I'm kinda wondering if you somehow have a Windows UI customizer running or something. Something seems to be affecting the per-app window frame because that should be loading full screen nomatter what. IE: your desktop will look like the whole thing just got blown up larger just prior to fully loading. Until you quit the game at which point it will return to normal. For the rest of the testing you may wanna stick to running on one monitor until we've got it running.Or No I don't. It's doing it again!!!

This is my desktop with both monitors.
On the left is my 15" Dell monitor. It is set at maximum settings of 1480 x 900
On the right, with all the icons and the COHLauncer is my LCD TV. It is set at 1680 X 900. Not the size of the icons here.

This is my two monitors with COH running. Note the size of the icons now.
Also, note that I can not get into the game. I have -fullscreen -screen 800 600 in the advanced properties. In the regedit, fullscreen is 1, x is 800 and y is 600
I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the game. Anything else?
I forget if we've had you try it yet, but try this:
Press Windows Key + R;
Type msconfig;
Under the Services Tab make sure that Hide Microsoft Services is checked;
Click Disable All and uncheck Load Startup Items;
Under the Startup Tab Click Disable All;
Click Apply and any Ok buttons after that. You will be asked to reboot;
On next boot, it will complain that you are running gimped and you can clear out the window. At any point in time you can always run msconfig and select Normal Startup to restore things back to before and get rid of that message.
Short of going into Windows Safe Mode, this should help rule out anything running in the background. -
Quote:I thought it was an i3? I'm not sure this game will run on any Tablet based system honestly. Atleast not in anything beyond Safe Mode. If it gets that far then the monster processing power being used will likely drain that battery quick and make it extremely hot to hold.Depends on which new MS tablet you mean. The One running Windows RT (ARM based) - no. The one with the Intel Core i5 in it (Surface Pro,) possibly, not sure of the specs. I wouldn't expect it to be stellar though. They don't give the amount of system memory (just storage,) initial units appear to be wifi only, and 10" screen... eh.

I forget the name of it, but I think it's called 'Reveal'. That power is your friend in such cases.

Any chance we can get a screeny?
Also, If you're comfortable with the registry made simple:
Make sure the launcher/game is/are closed.
Hit the Windows key + R
Type: regedit
Hit Enter
Hit Control + F
Type: Cryptic
Click the word COH
It should popup the settings for CoH. On the right side of the window, scroll down and find the words screenX_pos and screenY_pos. Double click each of the words and change the value to the number 0. Double click screenX, change the value to 1280, double click screenY, and change it to 800. Lastly, double click fullscreen and change it to 1. This should fix any window position offset if my understanding of the terms is correct.
Close the registry and see what happens. -

This....would solve many problems for new players. As would a general revamp of the SG and Base systems.

A lyrical Interlude
Voltaire: What?
Lassy: Timmy's in the well!
Voltaire: Timmy fell in the well?
Lassy: He's Dead!
Voltaire: What's that? He's dead? Well that sucks...
Lassy: You can have his CDs.
Voltaire: What's that? I should break into his house and help myself to his CD collection? That doesn't seem right. (the line that brought this up)
Lassy: He's cool with that. He had a GF.
Voltaire: Oh his GF's probably really lonely right now? I don't think he'd approve of that.
Lassy: Nah, it's cool.
Voltaire: Oh he wouldn't mind, ok. -
Since nobody's mentioned it quite this way...(and hopefully I'm remembering things close enough to right)
The Game started as City of Heroes with a required sub of upto $15/mo.
Issue 6 (I'm pretty sure) introduced the Villians side of the game, but you had to purchase the upgrade/addon content. It was probably something like $20 at the time, but it was a one time thing.
A few other content addons worked like that until Going Rogue (which you still had to purchase) at which point all previous content was unlocked, but again, still the same sub.
And then Freedum...
*submits to the twins for content authorization* -
Time...not really
Money...eh, I'm sure I could have spent the $15/mo on something that would make the body feel better -
huh, maybe you should disable the onboard audio in the BIOS then. It's possible that there's a conflict somewhere. It honesly sounds more like a driver/config issue or possible corruption, but that's not a strong suit of mine quite yet.

another reason I go for Pro/Ultimate whenever I can. I'd rather have the higher ceiling than to worry about memory limitations beyond what the Motherboard can handle.
