QoL Suggestion - Pay Base Upkeep at all trainers.

Yet another trip to the wasteland that is Port Oakes (seriously, Atlas Park is far more connected than PO) prompted me to think "What could be done to make paying the base upkeep better?"

My favored solution is to allow all trainers to accept base upkeep payments, like they allow costume changes.

Pros:

  • Many convenient locations.
  • Lets everyone, including Premiums pay base upkeep (though SG Registrar would still be needed to start a group).
  • Minimal Interface time.
  • No need to place/move registrars all over the place.

Cons:
  • Probable coding time needed... maybe.
  • Base upkeep formula still favors paying only when the power goes off in a base.
  • Not an automatic payment system.
  • Lets Premiums pay base upkeep. While I don't have an issue with this, the Business department might.

Comments or suggestions for this quality of life suggestion (yes, it isn't strictly needed, but it would improve what we have currently).

the CoV location is such a bother I just run an alt I don't play over to the registrar, log him out & log him back in when rent is due.

Wow. The fact that I think this is a great idea as opposed to a horrible waste of a character slot (I'm a major altoholic) only reinforces how badly we need this change.

It's one of the reasons I make it a point to log off at the black market. Getting the black market teleporter - pop over to Oakes, pay off, go.

Honestly, THIS makes more sense to have a trainer (arbiters = the "impartial, attacking them is an instant death sentence, considered just under Recluse" in lore folks, or the known superheroes heroside - so they should be able to be trusted with your *rent*) do as opposed to, oh, *being a tailor.* Why this wasn't added then, I don't know.

Unsurprisingly pretty much all my characters have not only the market porter but the accelerated version.

My beef isn't so much with Port Oakes, it's that we're supposed to pay it in a weird, non-obvious place that I forget the location of about five minutes after leaving the building.

In Paragon, it's in City Hall, this bustling, fun, obvious place I don't mind visiting.

In the Rogue Isles, it's in this grubby office on an empty side street with nothing interesting for miles.

IRL, I can pay my rent and electric bill online. In CoX, I can't even drop a check in the mail?

:P

ive never had a problem going to PO, i just use the base transporter and then pop out right in front of the building, then ouro or mish tp off to what i was gonna do

i like the suggestion but am fairly impartial to it happening as the current system is not really an inconvenience since it takes less than 5 minutes out of my playtime

That is also part of the problem. Atlas Park is a major hub zone. Port Oakes isn't, and it isn't even the start zone. About the only thing to recommend Port Oakes is that it is a level 10-15 zone so putting the SG Registrar is somewhat more level appropriate as compared with Atlas Park.

Hmmm, I wonder if creating a slash command (/payrent) might be a way to achieve this?

Talking this over with a friend, his idea was to pay the rent at the SG Enrance Portal (Cannot Enter Your Base. Upkeep Of xxxx Is Due. Pay Upkeep Now? Y/N). No side trip at all, just pay it on your way in the door. Not sure about the coding demands of this, but it would be a neat and simple solution.

OK, assuming that the toon you're on has permission to pay the rent, but that's really neither here nor there.

Great idea, makes MUCH MORE sense than using Trainers as Tailors. . .

Put an SG registrar in the little room with the science/whatever quartermasters in Aeon City, right off of where the SG base and ouro drop you off. Hurray!

Meh, I intentionally park a toon of that level range in that spot for that reason!

and

I'm pretty sure that a key reason for the change in how/where rent is paid should be to allow the Preems/Freebs help out!

I still think base 'rent' as a whole (Rent what? It's MY damn base. You want to charge a Villain RENT? There's a word for that; suicide.) is really bloody stupid, but oh well. Since I doubt it'll go away anytime soon, this gets my /signed for being a good idea.

A few weeks ago I made a suggestion which was to allow the option to enroll in auto payments. Heck they can even charge a "convenience" fee. Anyways it didn't seem to be popular...

I must have missed that, since I would have /signed that shoop-de-woop in a second
