Unable to play. NVidia EVGA Geforce GTX 550 Ti
[Guide] Asking for technical help on the forums
If you are running the EVGA Precision tool, try shutting it down before launching the game.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
Well, I don't run the Precision Tool.
Here's what I got from the Forum Output of CoH Helper...

This seems to be popping up with several people. Looking at the first page there are 3 people with the same problem. Well, 4 really because I have it too on one of my computers. It's about to be replaced (motherboard failing) so I'm not going to bother trying to fix it. I just wonder how many people that don't come to the forums are fighting this.

The Justiciars
Yeah, i think something is up with the game and NVidia since I believe the start of freedom. I was constantly getting random colored shapes popping up all over my screen making me play pretty much blind at some points. This was on my mac, but on the pc im fine. Same computer btw. Have windows vista installed on the mac via bootcamp.
The game has had problems in the past with the Wacom tablet drivers and I think it was stopping at either the logon screen or just before that screen loaded.
Unplug the tablet, uninstall the Wacom Tablet drivers and software, run HiJackThis again and look at the output to make sure the Tablet Service and software aren't loaded or running at all then try the game again.
Also, you have a huge amount of unnecessary programs running at Startup (the O4 entries in HJT). I'd recommend shutting the majority of them off to free up some of your memory. Most of them don't really need to be running at Startup anyway but should start that task if you launch the program they belong to.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
I have reduced the number of programs at Startup and removed the Wacom components. The tablet itself has been little more than a mousepad for almost a year, anyway.
Game's still not running, though.

There seems to be a problem with the Steam overlay, see the bottom of this thread.
If it isn't that there is always the uninstall/clean/install driver route. Possibly the change in nVidia architecture from the 9800GT to the GTX 550Ti is messing up.
But first have you tried launching the game in "safe mode". It's an option in the NCLauncher under preferences for the game, a check box. If that works then there is some graphics setting that freaks out the game.

I can honestly say that will not fix everyone. I have never used Steam, and the best I could get on loading in safe mode was about 95% of the load bar before CoH locked up. It was running a 8800GTS when the problems started for me after the last patch. That computer has been torn down for a ground up rebuild (waaaay overdue. socket 939 motherboard.) I do still have the hard drive just as it was so I can search to see if there was something installed on it. I just don't have enough of the old computer left to fire it up again.

I've said this in Jello Shooters, Hyper, but I could hump your leg now.
Shut down Steam.
That did it.
Tried in Safe mode first. Situation looked scary a couple times. Then... Bam. I'm in-game.
Thank you so much!

Yeah. Apparently last week's patch for Steam busted something BUT GOOD with CoH.
I don't use Steam, but I'd still report it to them so they know their software is breaking things.
On a bit of a side note, how is the game looking now that you solved the problem? I've been looking to upgrade to that card.
Stunrunner, I'm running the 560 Ti in my rig and I have to say things look awesome. If you're planning on buying it, grab it. You'll love it.
I have been unable to play for the past week because of a card upgrade.
I was previously using a 9800 GT with old drivers because the modern drivers would have the same results I am about to describe.
I am able to start the game. I can log in. I can select my server.
However, that is as far as I get. The game locks up before my character can render and I'm left with a blank character select screen.
I've been to the NVidia site, and after the Tier 1 technician ran me through the standard rigamarole of rolling back my drivers, I have been escalated to the next tier of support and haven't heard another word.
I like the game too much to give up on it. If anybody could give me some advice on what to do here, I'd be very appreciative.
