Quote:With Torrent, sort of. It's more like they're getting knocked back at sharp angles to the ground, so they bounce off in a way that's less obvious. With Explosive Blast, I'm not sure, having never used the power, but I doubt it. If the KB emanates from the Point of Origin, the origin being the mob being targetted, it will always scatter mobs unless the mob itself is above or below the others. If you can keep hovering over the group, then they both do KD instead of KB AFAIK.
As a Mind/Energy, I'm liking the new AoE attack chain we've got in Terrify > ETorrent > ExBlast. I already had Terrify HO'd out for damage/mez, this just makes it more effective. -
Quote:I actually noticed the new APPs when I respecced for Inherent Fitness. Energy Transfer is the FIRST power!? O_o Oh I've been wanting Energt Transfer, Torrent, and Explosive Blast for I can't even tell you how long. This is the greatest thing ever.If no one has mentioned it Doms get APPs now. All I can say is Ice Mastery.... Ice Mastery Everywhere....
oh and welcome back
WHY CAN'T I COLOR ANY OF THEM!? ; ;
Also, my main is on Infinity, and he's got IOs now. Is there any way I could transfer him to Pinn? Hate to miss out on HTTT, but I'd REALLY hate to start the same guy over when I love his concept so much. It wasn't so painful back when the only thing my Pinnacle dom didn't have was levels. Now he's missing HOs, IOs, badges, temp powers, unlockable costume pieces and levels. -

You took Energy Torrent with no slots? =/
Get rid of Whirling Hands and give its slots to Energy Torrent. You'll thank me later.
Quote:Drop dimension shift, pick up Power Push.I really am having problems finding room on this build to get Power Push. I need the melee attacks, obviously, because I do lean on them, especially Energy transfer. i may need to drop invisibility. I have stealth in fly, and its ghetto, but does okay.
If you're leaning on Energy Transfer, you might also want to include it in the build. >.> -
Quote:The recharge on those powers is so quick that you see almost no benefit from adding more than one recharge slot at the expense of a duration slot unless you're stacking for AVs, but if you're stacking for AVs, it provides LESS benefit unless you land it IMMEDIATELY once it recharges, every time. That'll never happen in a real fight, you'll be too busy as it is. Trust me. I'd slot 2acc/3duration/1recharge, or 2/3/1. 2/2/2 is better for long-recharging AoE controls like Total Domination.Solid build. A few questionable power choices, but I can see them working for a theme not my own. Slotting is what needs the most help.
06: Confuse => Accuracy, Accuracy, Confuse, Confuse, Recharge
12: Dominate => Accuracy, Accuracy, Hold, Hold, EnduranceDiscount
These are your two Bread & Butter powers. Six Slot them. 2Acc, 2Rech, 2Mezz
Quote:08: Air Superiority => EnduranceDiscount: Replace with Hover. You already have plenty of powers to keep you busy/safe. You won't be using Air Sup much. Most likely neither hover, but when the time comes you need some air combat, you'll appreciate Hover.
Quote:16: Grant Invisibility => EnduranceDiscount: Keep in mind that you cannot do anything while invisible. If you want some stealth combat capacity, replace Grant Invisibility with Stealth. If you just want to help the team ninja missions, this works.
Quote:20: Whirling Hands => Accuracy, Accuracy, Stunned, Stunned: This power is generally laughed at. Most people don't like it, but feel free to give it a spin and form your own opinion of it.
Quote:32: Mass Confusion => Accuracy, Accuracy, Accuracy, Confuse, Confuse, Recharge: This is your happy happy fun times power. Its confusion duration is already pretty long, so maybe replace a Confuse with a Recharge.
Quote:35: Sniper Blast => Accuracy, Damage, Damage, Damage, Damage, Recharge. Too much damage. Slot only 3 SOs of anything, after that you get hit by diminishing returns. The 4th SO contributes very little.
If you're going to give Sniper Blast 6 slots, you should look into putting at least 5 Sting of the Manticore IOs into it for the global recharge bonus.
Also take into account that Sniper Blast is a very cumbersome power to be using during combat: you can't move an INCH at any time, the charge up is very long, and if you're attacked at any time, it uses up the endurance and fails to go off. If you're giving it 6 slots and no IOs, slot an Interrupt Reduction in there, so it goes 1Acc/3Dam/1Int/1End.
Quote:38: Power Burst => Accuracy, Accuracy, Accuracy, Damage, Damage, Recharge: Too much accuracy, to little damage.
Quote:On that note, you got a few powers with 4 of the same.
When slotting attacks, ideally aim at 2acc,3dam,1rech or end, OR 1acc, 3dam, 1rech,1end.
You might want to fit in Hasten somewhere. Mind has gobs of control and Hasten make them come back faster.
Also, snipes are a lot less useful than one might think, specially with a click heavt set like Mind/Eng. Move a slot elsewhere. -
Summon Tarantula needs 6 slots, at least 2 of them should be common Recharge IOs. With only 4 slots, you've given it a little bit of everything, but not enough of anything. Move some slots around or ditch the power for something that can be slotted more lightly. If it's not at least Acc/Dmg/Dmg/Dmg/Rech/Rech, you'll use it so little that you'll probably forget you even have it.
Mesmerize is really really good with just 1 slot. 6 slotting it is waaaay overkill unless you want to socket some IOs for set bonuses into it. Mesmerize lasts 45 seconds unslotted and it has a longer-than-normal range. I've never had the need for more than just a single accuracy common IO except for cases of set bonuses for permadom, and if you're planning that far ahead, Mids' can do that. -
538 days logged out. Man, where does the time go? This old vet needs to be brought up to speed. I was here for the Dom Revamp, liked it very much. After that, everything kind of gets hazy. So much to take in...
So tell me, guys, what's been up? -
/Energy goes well with sets that can benefit from Power Boost, sets with a lot of hard, targeted AoE mezzes that could use a duration boost (Mind/ and Fire/ are good examples). Earth/, like Ice/, has a lot of controls that don't benefit from Power Boost, but more than that, Earth/ just has so much control that Power Boost is barely needed for the powers it helps with. It boosts Stalagmites and Salt Crystals, but that's about it.
A better set to pair with Earth/ would be /Fire. Fire Assault is big on the damage, and Earth Control is big on control. Energy does have good damage, but it's all single-target, and it is rather slow. Energy has a lot of tools to help with locking things and knocking things down, but Earth has so much control, a lot of which negates knockback, that it doesn't synergize as well as it could.
Fire/, on the other hand, is good with /Energy because it has powers like Flashfire and Cinders, both of which are just okay on their own, but are fantastic with Power Boost. Cinders in particular is actually worth taking with Power Boost in your pocket, and Flashfire becomes a respectable every-fight power. Fire Control is a much better match than Earth Control, because Fire is light on control, and Energy makes up for this in spades.
All that said, though, you really can't go wrong with Earth/ and /Energy. They're solid sets, they're just not optimal matches. Fire/Energy is a much better matchup. -

Wow are you kidding me? I'm seeing tons of */nrg posts suddenly, I just reactivated and it looks like the new FOTM, I'm going to feel awkward playing my ice/energy that I've had since when CoV first came out.
[/ QUOTE ]
It'll probably feel about as awkward as me playing my Mind/Energy that I've had since CoV came out. And by awkward I mean freaking awesome. -

I was wondering how a mind/energy dominator is. I can tell it'll have awful AoE so it'd be a good choice to pair it with soul mastery. But is Mind control bad at locking things down? Would I really be much help at level 50 on say, a big SF? Thanks
[/ QUOTE ]
Mind/Energy is a great combo. Mind Control is great at locking things down, and in fact is near or at the top for AoE Control overall. Power Boost from Energy further aids this by doubling your durations, which Mind benefits greatly from. On a big SF, such as the LRSF, Mind/Energy is one of the first combos people will go for due to Power Boosted Vengeance and Permadom-Mass Hypnosis. The latter allows you to permanently sleep all 8 Heroes in the final mission, so I'd argue that for big SFs, Mind/Energy is the combo to go for. Energy's AoE isn't actually all that bad if you take Soul Drain and Dark Obliteration, and its ST damage is fantastic since the buffs.
I should be ready to update my guide within a week or so, but since I'm moving soon, I'm experiencing delays. -
Grav and lots of AoE control in the same sentence? Well, I guess that's why you're here, lol.
If you want lots of AoE Control, I'd have to recommend Earth. For the Secondary, I'd say Psi and Fire are both good bets. -

Pretty sure Avatar is an American cartoon. It does look like Anime, though, I'll give you that. -
Maelstrom is still the most badass [censored] I've ever seen in come out of the CoH universe.

Thorn Caster with the Crystal Staff have a 20% damage debuff.
Agony Mages have Siphon power with another 20% damage debuff.
Death Mages have Twilight Grasp with a 10% damage debuff.
Arachnos has fairly widespread Psi resistance among the Fortunatas, Wolf Spiders, Bane Spiders, Drones, Arachnobots, Tarantulas, and Crab Spiders but not the Mu.

<shrug> maybe that was it. I've never had any of that have a noticeable effect on any other character, but it's possible.

We probably just didn't notice before because the damage was so low. -

The tier 1's still aren't worth slotting
[/ QUOTE ]
Absolute bunk. Slot and use your tier 1 blast. Anyone who says it's not worth using has poor math skills.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, my math skills are fine. :P It's just that I have better dps chains on my characters.

[/ QUOTE ]
The reason you slot up the tier 1 is so you can use it as a useful filler attack on things with low HP. Without slots, you end up wasting a lot of end if you come against a low HP mob.
It's not always about the DPA. Your overall DPS gets cut short if you run out of end, and that's why you slot up Power Bolt: less overkill. -
If this is true, wow. I think I might have noticed something similar the other day, when my powers were doing less than I remember, then suddenly that same power, out of what I thought was nowhere, did the higher amount that I was expecting.
We need to verify this! -

Ice/Ice is horrendously End intensive in the low levels. Arctic Air and ISC are the main culprits, so if your friend watches his usage of those powers he should do better. AA in particular can usually be put off until after stamina, as long as you spam the heck out of Shiver.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, Ice/Ice was end heavy BEFORE the revamp. It's excessively so now IMHO. various Icey doms gave feedback during testing about how end hungry their various builds were. I wish I could find the posts as I believe some already had stamina and were still feeling the crunch.
On the other hand certain /thorny and /Energy doms have made out quite well. Your friend my try a reroll with one of those secondary's to see if that makes a diff. I really hope the dev team takes a look at Icey assualt, it needs rebalanced in terms of end costs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Read the part where we say Icy's end costs haven't been touched in the revamp except for Ice Sword Circle. -

In short, I was doing it wrong and I had to learn to play.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's usually the case around here, actually. No shame in that. Glad you were man enough to say it. -
I figured it out on my own. Can't be that hard.
-
[ QUOTE ]
Being that both may be available options to the player, regardless of 'side'; how do you believe the new Dom will stack up against the Controller?
Which will be your preference when the opportunity arises?
[/ QUOTE ]
I'll be playing a Dom, of course. I'd like to play WITH Controllers. I've done it before and the buffs are nice; they will be even nicer with the base damage increases we got.
Which will I pick for a team? Controllers, since I'll be a Dom and I like buffs and variety. I do agree with EvilRyu on the notion that we'll be looked at as equals when GR comes out, but I'm positive it wouldn't have been the extinction of Doms had we not gotten the buffs, though, since there's always a few sympathizers and non-picky leaders, plus there would still be Permadoms. -
It's usable. With Soul Drain it's pretty good. The range buff is really what makes it work now.

Just wanted to be sure. I'm not going to try and change who you are, people have to want to change.
Regardless of your years of experience I'm willing to bet thousands of years of experience trumps it.
Interesting stuff, I like learning more about the regulars in this game.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, seeing as you're going back to the "people have to want to change" well, I don't mind asking how many times did I have to explain to you that the Elusivity implementation differed from my openly published original suggestion? By my count it was three. It has nothing but the math I would expect a junior high school student to be able to do in two minutes as a homework assignment. So I think you are not a good judge of what is easy or hard.
And when you find the person with thousands of years of experience explaining things to the City of Heroes playerbase on these forums, tell him happy birthday for me and I'll be more than happy to defer to his collected wisdom. Until then mine still trumps yours, takes the trick, makes the contract, and completes the grand slam.

[ QUOTE ]
I don't feel like creating a new thread but would I gimp myself much by skipping both Bone Smasher and Total Focus? Hear me out.
I am trying Mind Control for the first time. Mind has a lot of useful powers and it is all ranged.
I looked at the numbers and /Energy's ranged dps is quite impressive. I mean Power Bolt, Push, Blast and Burst is a very solid attack chain. I don't know if I have much time using melee attacks to be honest. Mind control doesn't have -kb so my target after Power Push is always so far away unless I push him to a corner/wall.
Have any of you tried /Energy without melee? Or maybe just skipping Total Focus? I am not a huge fan of 3s attack. I feel 70% of the time it's either overkill or wasted. Another thing is other ATs use Total Focus for mag 4 stun as well but I already have hold. What do you think?
[/ QUOTE ]
In I15, I could see all-ranged working just fine actually. You do less damage, but it's hardly weak damage. I disagree that Total Focus or Bone Smasher are overkill; on team settings, use them on Bosses/LTs. Solo, they're great. TF is only overkill solo if you use it on minions with under 50% health left.
PS, Power Push still allows a melee attack to go off after you use it, if you queue it up right away. Total Focus is also mag 3 stun for all ATs now. -
No Power Push or Power Blast, but Whirling Hands and Total Domination?
BALL LIGHTNING!?
Hope you plan on not having an attack chain at all.
-Take AT LEAST Power Push; with the I15 buffs it is the mainstay of /nrg's arsenal.
-You can put your Travel Power off until the early 20s if you want thanks to Mayhem Temp Travel.
-Don't take Whirling Hands unless you go /Ghost Widow. You need Soul Drain to make it worth having.
-Do not take Ball Lightning. It is the most disappointing power I've ever used. Even Whirling Hands is impressive comparatively.
-Total Domination is a decent power, but you need 6 slots for it and Power Boost. You took power boost, but you haven't shown us your slots yet.
-I personally don't like Telekinesis since it's not useful in PvP anymore. It's too hard to use effectively, drains your end really fast (an even bigger problem in I15), and it has a target cap of 5. -

Yeah, I expected the knockback chance and accuracy bonus to get adjusted during Beta. I still expect them to get adjusted sometime in the future.
[/ QUOTE ]
The most I expect to happen to it is for it to get the acc bonus removed. I don't expect the KB to go down much, if at all.
