Bad Combo?
Mind control is one of the more controll-y sets.
I mean, you'll get a Mass Sleep pretty early on, and as long as you've slotted with Accuracy, it shouldn't be hard to keep 'em asleep or held.

Mind control is actually near the top for mitigating enemies. Especially solo, when your sleeps are much less likely to be broken prematurely. It uses a variety of different meta-controls (sleep, confuse, and fear) on top of a few regular hold powers. It also has the unique benefit (if you're good, or curse if you're not) of Telekinesis, which is amazingly potent power under Domination's influence, and a great tool (especially additive to other controls) when not.
One of the things I am doing with my Mind/Energy Dom is using the longer range of Mesmerize to help counteract the knockback. Definitely use it as an attack and not a hold, considering how often Sleep can be broken.
In every situation outside of AVs, I'll take Sleep over Immob, unless the Immob also happens to have -KB (not always the case), in which case it depends on the secondary.
Oh, and BTW many Dom secondaries are almost as weak at AoE as Energy. Considering that as secondaries go, Doms pretty much only get a cone and a 15ft PbAoE (the latter Energy does get), it's pretty apparent that the design of Doms relies largely on its primaries for any AoE it might put out. In general, only Fire/(Fire/Psi/Thorns) are considered AoE monsters, and only at relatively high levels or recharge rates.
Mind/Energy...is a very good combo now. Plus with powerboost + Domination + mass hypnosis you can sleep (keep slept) and entire room of AVS. I've done it and theres nothing like controlling aggro like that.
Plus energy has turned from the a "bottom of the barrel" secondary into probably the best secondary. You just can't go wrong here.

Gah....So I've been coming up with a build, trying to get perma-dom. I'm at like 66% recharge when I need 70%. On power push, I used a KB set because it gave 7.5% recharge, but I had to sacrifice some damage. Is it worth it?
I'd aim to get a little more than 70% recharge because chances are Domination will drop a lot. Why don't you post your build, it would be easier to help out.
I'll post my build in like an hour (I'm on a mac and the computer with mids and my build is being used at the moment.) Is it better to have mesmerize over levitate? I somewhat got levitate for concept, but i've been kind of using it to take the KB off of power push.
If I had to choose between the 2, I would take Mesmerize. Although, I have both on my Mind Dom.
This is the build I made so far. I don't mind switching levitate with mesmerize if that would help the build. I can't really afford purples, but i've noticed the confuse one isn't as expensive, so I [put that in. Critique away...

I was wondering how a mind/energy dominator is. I can tell it'll have awful AoE so it'd be a good choice to pair it with soul mastery. But is Mind control bad at locking things down? Would I really be much help at level 50 on say, a big SF? Thanks

Mind/Energy is a great combo. Mind Control is great at locking things down, and in fact is near or at the top for AoE Control overall. Power Boost from Energy further aids this by doubling your durations, which Mind benefits greatly from. On a big SF, such as the LRSF, Mind/Energy is one of the first combos people will go for due to Power Boosted Vengeance and Permadom-Mass Hypnosis. The latter allows you to permanently sleep all 8 Heroes in the final mission, so I'd argue that for big SFs, Mind/Energy is the combo to go for. Energy's AoE isn't actually all that bad if you take Soul Drain and Dark Obliteration, and its ST damage is fantastic since the buffs.
I should be ready to update my guide within a week or so, but since I'm moving soon, I'm experiencing delays.

I've also been really successful with my mind/energy (pseudo perma) dom on the ITF. When the fluffies start coming I have several dom + Powerboost mezzes that I can I use for big time crowd control. Sleep, confuse, and Fear all seem to work. Its very nice and a little frenetic. But Mind/Energy has always been a favorite choice for me..even more so now.

I just recently made a Mind/Energy to 40. I like Mind and I kinda like /Energy's Ranged attack chain but I don't like the combo much.
Well, I like Power Boost but I have no -kb in controls so the target will get pushed further and further unless I position myself more or hit them against the wall. It's a bit annoying I have to say. Power Push is a very strong knockback and it's even worse with Domination on. The Single-Target-ness in Energy fits well with Mind control as Sleep is a great way to start the battle.
I probably would enjoy Mind/Icy more I think.
Or, you can focus more with Bone Smasher and Total Focus. My Mind/Energy focuses more on Power Push, Blast and Burst.
What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.
