Its funny how I really like the sets you dont like. Or that others dont like. I mean sure, I have Earth/Storm at 50 and Earth/Rad at 50, but I also have Earth/Empathy at 50 and Earth/FF at 50. I have Earth/Poison in the works.

My Earth/Empathy is a Roman who lost his love, went wandering the world looking for magic power to resurrect her, but got obsessed with a nomadic lifestyle and forgot his purpose. At some point, he learned his earth/empathy powers while training with Chinese doctors/mystics, and he even mastered the powers he wanted, but kept wandering. Eventually ended up as a town doctor in the old west (which is why I always keep crafted revolver powers on him) and now he is a superhero.

My Earth/FF guy is an a "belter" ... an asteroid miner with a suit with powers that would let him do asteroid survey stuff as well as protect him from exposure to space, vacuum, debris, etc. I wont go into his whole story because my thumbs are tired.
  2. Local,

I think Earth/Empathy is thematic. There are lots of associations one can make between life forces and the earth. Stonehenge, ley lines, channeling the life essence of the earth to heal those who depend on it, etc. tribal shamans, Chinese healers or earth dragons, druids, elemental spirits, etc .... all kinds of themes exist here.

  3. I use the following on 95% of my characters:

    Hasten/Super Speed
    Combat Jumping
    Boxing/Tough/Weave
    Maneuvers

This is because I am usually building for defense and global recharge, and those powers all do that directly and/or have set / IO oportunities for defense and recharge.

For characters that need to hover, I will take hover instead of maneuvers. For force field characters who want to stack dispersion with maneuvers, but who also need to fly, then combat jumping is usually replaced with hover.

I never ever take aid self. Ever.

What did they change? I find redside not only annoying, but hard. Well too hard for my carebear "I got mezzed" ragequit sensibilities. When I solo redside, I just streetsweep or do newspaper missions avoiding foe types that give me trouble.

But Praetoria? Forget about it. I dont even bother. Way too hard. I even had issues on some brutes and scrappers depending on type. If they made it to where Praetoria was the only place anyone could ever make a new character again, I would have to stop playing CoH.

So I am just curious about what massive, broad and deep sweeping nerfs were made to Praetotia. Because I will never go there again based on my last experiences there.

  5. All,

I am on a mobile device far from Mids, and I was just wondering if there are any primary attack sets that give defense when you attack. I dislike weapon sets, so katana, broadsword, and titan weapons are sets I want to avoid.

If there arent any, well, no biggie. I was just hoping I had overlooked one.

    Thanks,

    Lewis
  6. I have really enjoyed Poison on controllers. I especially like Fire/Poison. I also like Poison with sets that have a confuse. But I will admit that if I had less control, I imagine I would faceplant a fair amount.

  7. I have found Street Justice AoE to be a bit below average, even when positioning to use it correctly and using it with the combo system. In a way, I find the one Martial Arts AoE to be more satisfying than the two on STJ combined. Still, Street Justice looks cool.

I say go with whichever matches your concept more.

  8. Ice/dark corruptor. You can stack slow/resist debuff patches with her freezing rain. Your shadow fall and her steamy mist stack. You have healing and -regen and -tohitbuff. You will dramatically help the team survive. Also, youll have a blast set to zap stuff with, which is always fun.

  9. Scrapper - martial arts / super reflexes
Tanker - invuln / super strength
    Controller - earth / storm
    Defender - rad / rad
    Blaster - energy / energy
    Brute - claws / willpower
    Mastermind - thugs / traps
    Dominator - mind / psy
Stalker - street justice / ninja
    Corruptor - fire / dark

For masterminds, I picture lackeys and gadgets, so I couldnt pick demons, robots, or undead. For stalkers, nin/nin doesnt scream stalker, it screams ninja minions for a mastermind. To me the ultimate stalker is the classic superhero detective, or sock-em, dodge, fling a gadget. Hence the stj/nin choice. I have no comments about my other selections tho.
  10. I lost most of my enthusiasm when I got the top pet. Too bad. The set as a whole is genius. I wish I were one of the players who liked the wolf.

  11. I like to Faceroll with Control.

It sickens me the number of high level foes that resist controls. So I will enhance my controls on my controllers in the hopes that I may finally be able to do what I love most: fighting statues. It irritates me to have to double control or notice which unit type something is and remember that one dude resists holds but is easy to confuse, while the one next to him will ignore basically all my controls.

If none of the control options let me Faceroll with Control, then I will switch to a damage hybrid. Damage is the ultimate control, after all.

  12. I like science and magic most, with tech a close 3rd. Mutant is uncommon, and I almost never use natural. When I do use natural, its usually aliens whose race happens to have powers naturally.
  13. I just wish that for each pet, you could pick either the wolf model, the lion model, or the dire wolf model. Size based on tier. It would be kinda like how fire melee can pick between fire scimitars or the massive greater fire blade for each fire sword power.

That way, we would still be using their rig, but we could go with all lions, or all wolves, or whatever.

  14. I am new go stalkers, and my first is STJ/SR. I find them fun now, but only just barely strong enough to keep my interest. I am level 39. I feel if CU and/or AS were reduced any, it might not be worth playing. For me anyway. I just hope the devs, when 1 person is strong pro nerf and 10 more are mediocre "its fine" that the passion doesnt outweigh reason.

I should probably go play a "lesser" set or something, since to me STJ is adequate but not miraculous. To me.

  15. I played storm/psi to 50, and I loved it.

I thnk traps/psi would be quirky weird fun.

  16. I just hope staff melee wont have the "2 angry dogs in a steel barrel fighting over bacon" sound effects. I preferred the previous wet cardboard sound effects. At this point, I would prefer having Zwillinger shout the word "crack" into a mic and have the game play that over and over.

    Crossing fingers.

  17. I say, if you like the character and you like incarnate content, just go for it. Maybe youll work out some good incarnate strategy or synergy that others didnt, and if not, as long as you have fun, its all good.

  18. Fire Control.
    Storm Summoning.
    Earth Control.
    Super Reflexes.
    Super Strength.
    Force Fields.
  19. I am definitely shy about pvp IOs and purples. I will do Elec/Ice. Might as well try it. Still working on my STJ/SR, but after that, elec/ice.

    Lewis
  20. Thanks for the extra replies, I appreciate them!

    Lewis
  21. So one vote for "SR sucks" and one vote for "my Elec/Ice rocks" basically.

But if I am going to make 2 stalkers, which pair is the better pair?

    Thanks,

    Lewis
  22. So the consensus is to drop Havoc Punch?

    Thanks,

    Lewis
  23. Is it not good? Why is that? I have all the attacks on my Elec/SR scrapper who is level 50, but I have always just chained them all together without thinking about it.

    Whats the story?

    Thanks,

    Lewis
  24. All,

I am planning a couple of stalkers. I want to try Dual Blades and I want to try Electric Melee. As for the secondaries, I love Super Reflexes, but I want to try Ice Armor. I am wondering how would you pair these up, and why?

    DB/SR and Elec/Ice?
    DB/Ice and Elec/SR?

I was leaning to the second option, simply because I wanted more global recharge for Thunder Strike, but in a way, I think that the first option is a bit more thematic. Shadowy Stabber and Elemental Being.

Any suggestions in regard to synergy?

Also, I plan to skip Chilling Embrace because I dont want to juggle it with Placate, and unlike a lot of people, I actually use Placate often. I constantly placate a hard foe while I destroy other ones (once my first hidden attacks have landed). So, I want to skip CE entirely. Or is that a huge mistake?

    Thanks,

    Lewis
