Quote:Well excuse me for being an old-school Giant Robot fan who grew up on this stuff!!I've always thought that Voltron looked way to bulky and rigid for a fighting robot (and I have the same opinion about the Power Rangers' various Megazords), so I have no objection to slimming it down and making it look more streamlined. Plus, there's also a Star Trek effect going on, where something that looked high-tech to its original audience looks like crap to newer audiences, thus requiring an update.
Though your Power Rangers comment isn't that far off from the mark. Cause shows like both Voltron Groups were basically animated versions of the 5-man team formula. And that's apart of the whole spiel of those kind of shows, in a way.
I'm not against some tweaking of the basic design, but what's shown in those concept pics is too much. Too bio-tech, not robotic, IMHO. And don't get me started on the Bay-formers either...
@Mr. DJ
Your right, it is concept art. Thing is though, your gonna have to figure most of the actual Lion/Voltron/Robeast stuff is gonna be full CGI. I would tend to think it won't be too much of a stretch to develop off of the art here.

Why is it that people can't go with what is iconic and make it work?
Gawd those look awful!
If that is the style intended, I'm gonna start having nightmares like the Tri-Star Godzilla did for me...
And what's the point of Setting Voltron on Earth? IIRC, the original Japanese series was. If the film is based on the changes made to create Voltron though, then no it shouldn't be done on earth.
Sheesh....

I had read through the article earlier in the day.
I tend to agree w/the rest in the thread that a 'more modern' take would of killed the movie to the fanbase. Watchmen needed to be kept 'period' for the overall tone and character backgrounds to work. I also feel Synder's take on the source material was very well done. Not prefect, but as good as can be expected.

The following is quoted from a post I made in the Announcement thread:
Quote:I feel bad that this is the first pack I will purposely pass on. As stated above, I do not feel the Party Pack is worth $8 US. Which is a shame really. I would like to purchase this pack, but I don't feel the value is there.I am also one of those "I will not purchase this pack because it is not worth the Value" naysayers. This isn't about the quality of the emotes, but the value perceived of the pack.
As I have stated in earlier posts, I wouldn't have a issue with buying a emote only booster/pack. My problem with this pack is I don't believe there are enough emotes in this pack to justify paying $8 US for it.
When the price point is $1 US/Emote, I find that a little too much. I have seen in other MMOs where the price point is about $0.50 US/Emote. This is a more reasonable price point, IMHO. If the price of the Party Pack had been adjusted to that price point (or about $4 US), I would of bought it no questions asked.
I will also chime in that the shear lack of OCR (or Marketing) response to the very negative feedback on this issue is just another sign of a distinct shift in the way the OCR team is dealing with the forum community as a whole. While there are moments where OCR has shined, the lack of reaction of OCR here is perhaps more damning than the CHVC reboot mess. At least there was some commentary and some consideration from OCR in the way CHVC was being handled.
One last thing, the commentary provided above in no means implies any ragequit or subscription canceling in the foreseeable future from me. I still enjoy playing CoX and do support the game as I can. I just find this particular product and the way the OCR has dealt with the feedback is the overall worst I have seen since NCSoft purchased the CoX IP. It was left me very disappointed and questionable as to purchasing any future booster/packs that are offered.
As also mentioned above, I am disappointed in the way OCR's lack of addressing the overwhelming negative feedback of this pack.

I'd go with Wedding Pack as well.
As others have chimed in, there's a lot of utility out of the more female-centric costume bits. The emotes are nice as well.
I just feel the Party Pack is overpriced for what is given.

Quote:(Re: the Abrams tank up there) Uh-oh, which one. If it's the Blastr site I can rip the jpg and post it instead. I use Firefox with a lot of blockers on it so I kinda coast along.
Never had any trouble with DeviantArt myself before.
I've had occasion w/DA that I've gotten a bit of Malware through banners on DA and not the specific artist's site.

Actually, for me, I've found these interpretations of the Princess interesting...

Quote:I hope you print this out and keep it up one one of your office's walls, David. But I'm not the only guy playing this game. I want each and every one of you to have an awesome experience on your own terms, so ultimately I'll cast my vote with everyone's interests in mind.
While improving the overall look of CoX is important, making sure everyone can have an enjoyable experience playing is just as important. I know this might be a rough balancing act for you, but ultimately we know you're trying to do what's best for the players and the game. Just try to keep what's quoted above in mind, and I think you'll do just fine.

Quote:Hey, folks. So I have two overarching philosophies when it comes to the Art Direction in COH: first, that we continue to improve the quality bar with every new initiative we undertake and second, that we not forget about the legacy art as this happens. But when it comes to legacy art, there are of course items in the Costume Creator that are starting to show their age. We could hypothetically remake these assets with crisper, more detailed textures and modern shaders and do our best to maintain the 'flavor' and 'feel' of the originals, with the goal of giving you the same stuff, only better.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But then there's a choice on how to deploy them, and that's where this very informal poll comes in: How would you, the players, want to approach this issue?
HYPOTHETICAL OPTION 1: Old assets would be removed from the Costume Creator menu and you'd have the newer, updated ones instead.
Pro: This raises the overall quality bar of the game by eliminating the oldest, least-attractive pieces; players look cooler; everything looks more consistent and modern. Less menu clutter.
Con: change is scary; perhaps some players will prefer the old pieces?
HYPOTHETICAL OPTION 2: We leave the old version alone and put the new version immediately below it in the Costume Creator.
Pro: Nothing is 'taken away.'
Con: Outmoded art remains, clashes progressively more with newer, modern assets. Menus swell with 2 options for each basic piece, making it harder to navigate.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So you can see where I stand on this.Personally, I'd like to see the game's art evolve, improve, and remain consistent, so I much prefer Option 1. But as always, I'd be interested to hear what you guys think about this. Do me a favor and please keep your posts short and to the point.
Possible grist for the mill:
--non-animated tails were left in Costume Creator when Animated Tails were added. Do any of you use the non-moving ones at this point?
First off, I haven't delved into the thread and read it. So any comments are going to be strictly based on David's OP quoted above.
In all honesty, I'd say Option 2.
I'm all for new stuff and updates to existing stuff (or putting back stuff taken out. Witch Bare on the Monstrous Legs for Females...). It should not come at a cost of what's in the CC right now though.
I actually like some of the current patterns and the like and they are useful on several of the characters I play. But if I tweak a costume and the legacy stuff is gone, I won't be able to tweak that costume ever again. Doesn't that sort of defeat the purpose of what the CC is there for?
While I understand it would prove more of a headache, systems wise, to add options and make the CC interface a little clunkier, I think the overall addition of options is a better way to go. Customization has always been a hallmark of this game. By going with Option 1, You'd be loosing some of that in an attempt to bring everything up to a improved graphical standard.
I also believe that the legacy stuff should be kept in for those who run on lower end systems. That way, those players have options that allow them playability, even though their characters may not look the best to those with better systems.
As to the animated tails question? I believe I have a couple of characters that use the static tails because it fits the character concept of the particular costume better than the animated.
Now I'll have fun reading though the thread...

Not too surprised there.

Now while I'm not the most technical person in the world, let's see if this helps...
While you claim your rig does fine for what gaming you do, the Celeron series of Intel CPUs are not intended for any kind of serious gaming. They just don't have the overall computational ability to handle most PC gaming.
From what you've described, it looks like the CPU (not the GPU) is getting overworked trying to handle Praetoria.
Having relooked at your listings, I wouldn't be surprised if your pushing your Motherboard as well. ECS boards aren't the best, IMHO.
Best thing I would suggest is to eventually go for a new CPU/MB/Memory package. Maybe upgrade your power supply as well. Your Vid card should be more than enough to last you for a few years.

Not really.
What the massively article was mentioning is because the Fitness Pool is becoming Inherent, typically players will see openings for three new powers in their builds (Swift/Hurdle, Health, Stamina).
Thank you for the time... -
Quote:For the most part, I kinda figured that (Respec to get Inherents) would be the case Castle. So just to be clear:Here's the only catch:
You'll have to respec to take advantage of it on existing characters.
Characters as they exist now, will only get the Inherent Fitness powers if they do not have any of them in their build. Conversely, if you don't you get them as Inherents and never get the option to select them as pool powers.
- If a Character Respecs after I19 goes live and has Fitness Pool Powers in the pre-Respec build, will the Fitness Pool Powers become Inherent Powers during the Respec?
- If a Character has multiple builds and each build has Fitness Pool Powers, each build will need to be Respeced to gain the Fitness Inherents per build?
- If an existing Character has never taken a second build, will the Fitness Inherents be available for that second build after I19 goes Live?
- Will the Fitness Pool Powers still be selectable to existing Characters that have Fitness Pool Powers in their build after I19 goes live?
I know the questions seem redundant. But for something like this, I think as much clarity is gonna be needed as possible.

O_I, please stop.
While your desire is somewhat reasonable, the way you've presented, and continue to present, your case isn't helping your cause any. If anything, your hurting your own cause by your attitude and lack of tact.
If you want support from the Community, try posting in a more respectful manner.

Oh here I was hopping if someone had a solution to this:
Quote:But then again, it looks like a problem on the server side, not mine.Wrong game version, run patcher and reconnect, server 1850.201007290124.21T2, client 1850.201007290124.28T4
Thank you for the time... -
From the looks of it, I think it's a problem on the server side.
I'm getting the same issue as well.
Thank you for the time... -
I think there's a problem...
Just patched today (09/03/10; approx. 4:30PM CST). Able to load client and login. Upon attempting to access either Training Room, I get this:
Quote:Wrong game version, run patcher and reconnect, server 1850.201007290124.21T2, client 1850.201007290124.28T4
Now I also tried to direct the patcher to run from the cohtest folder itself and got the same error.
Thank you for the time...
EDIT: As of 6:20 CST or so, Test is up and working as it should -
Woops...
Wrong patch notes.

For me, a Logitech Trackball Mouse and a ZBoard Merc Keyboard.
Scary thing is, I doubt I could ever go back to playing on a regular keyboard. I so enjoy the built in game pad of the Merc.

Quote:These comments, I think, are the best way to sum up the EW article's intent. It's all a matter of context.
Historical context and lasting impact are what matter...
It's hard to judge older programs and why there were as good as they were without having some understanding of when they were produced. Either the era was a more simpler in what audiences wanted or the programs resonated with a core audience of that time. Or, in Star Trek's case, it's the fan devotion that kept it going.

Quick answers are:
Shoulder Cape - Vet Reward
High Collar Cape - Magic Booster
These can be used at character Creation.
All other Cape tech unlocks after you run the Cape Mission after Level 20 (see specific contact Blue side or Red side).
