Quote:"Zen and Nao"?I had "One with the Nao" come to mind, but that could easily be describing the act of running to the market and spending whatever it takes to buy what you want right then.
Perhaps "Feeding the Nao" or something to that effect.
As to the question of the thread, may I suggest "Bucket Dropping". As in, the crafting costs are a drop in the bucket compared to the item's true sales potential. Ex, "I bucket dropped a handful of __________s the other day and used the profits to completely outfit my entire server with SOs."
Alternate terms may include "Bucket Crafting," "Bucketeering," or simply "Bucketing". -
They'll build a thousand new robots a day, but they won't chip in 30 bucks for some lawn chairs? I'm telling you, guys, the Archons hate bases!

This is yet another hidden branch of Vanguard, a fundraising division that they call The Wallet. It consists largely of interdimensional telemarketing campaigns. And bingo.

I love a good Giant Monster fight, so I'm all for this
For the names, I'd suggest "Stone Slinger" for Hero/Vigilante, and "Goliath" for Villain/Rogue. You know, as in David vs Goliath. Seems appropriate.
If there were a power associated with it, just to keep it interesting, I'd say make it only effective against Monsters and Giant Monsters. That way it's really desirable to those who fight them a lot anyway, and still just decorative to those who don't. (Maybe a click or toggle so it's not constantly using up server speed to calculate zero boosts.) Something like a modest defense increase from learning how to dodge huge enemies, or a boost to non-damage effects like debuffs and mezzes from developing more effective combat tactics against them. Plus this would be really attractive for anyone fighting Monsters in preparation for a Hami raid, so that's a little bump in the willingness of people to join GM teams.
As for introducing new GMs, well... they recently added a boatload of new exploration badges, and the requirements for getting SG teleport beacons didn't change. So this would just be for the list of GMs that existed at its creation. Unless of course they made it "defeat X number of Giant Monsters", regardless of which ones. -
Quote:Alphabet is the reason for that. B / C / E / I / Sa / SpWish they would re-order those tabs. There's no reason the invention salvage tab (that is probably the most frequently used type of salvage, and contains the stuff you'd actually want to delete separated from what you don't) should have to be arrowed over to while tabs that are no longer in regular use (base and component) get placed right next to "all" (arrowing over based on minimum window width).
I'd love to be able to organize the tabs in whatever order I prefer. Or at least merge Base and Component to the same tab, and Special and Event to a shared tab as well. -
Lately whenever the game shuts down for server maintenance there's a chance it also causes the mail server to rollback to a slightly older state, like a day or two earlier. It's caused many a valuable item to get eaten by grues, and also caused things that had already been claimed to show up once again. It may have been fixed by now, I haven't been keeping up. The second time I lost something from it i just stopped exiting the client with anything left in there.

Quote:Huh, okay then. Good to know for the future! Thank youThat doesn't work the way you think it does. She is a downgraded AV, and has the "Purple Triangle of Doom" protections, which includes about 84% resistance to toHit debuffs. She basically laughs off the -toHit of Dark Melee.
I've validated her resistances with the Analyzer Mk III temp power, so I'm not assuming this.
The only thing that was meaningfully working there was the purple inspirations (and DP+IH, which I used on my runs with Regens as well). -
Quote:Except a Lieutenant spawns behind you long before you reach that pointTo see this in action, try and take out a single invading Rikti Minion solo on a level 5 character. It is an uphill battle from the start, and you are most likely to end up with no endurance and an enemy with about half of their HP left.
Also, it isn't only about how the numbers scale. Someone brought up a good point in another thread about encountering Zeus Titans in tip missions when you're level 20. Those are bosses meant for level 40+ characters; they have a lot more powers to fight with. Attacks that a level 20 has insufficient defense against, and defenses that a level 20 can't really penetrate yet. The numbers for those powers might be scaled down, but the fact remains that characters at lower levels aren't properly equipped to stand up against higher level powers, period.
As to the OP's point, I agree that it's pretty careless to leave things lying around that can endanger other players. (I feel the same way about ambushes that trigger on mission exits.) It *really* bothered me during last year's event, but this year I'm leaning more towards "they're big and bright white, you can see them a mile away". Because unfortunately with most annoying behavior in games, you can't really stop the inconsiderate people without also penalizing the ones who were playing considerately.
I usually clean up my messes anyway, grey or not. Although if the zone seems mostly empty I'll leave ones that spawn in out-of-the-way corners, where players not participating in the event don't typically reach. Or if they're on a roof. I figure any character that manages to aggro something on a rooftop obviously (A) can handle themselves just fine, or (B) needs to learn a lesson anyway. -
Dark Melee gives out -ToHit debuffs like candy at Halloween. She can debuff your Defense all she likes, even on autohit, but if her own ToHit is in the toilet she still won't land very many attacks. I took down the ice queen on my DM/Regen scrapper in about 2 minutes, and I only needed 3 purples. One at the start to go with Dull Pain and Instant Healing, and the other two (probably an overreaction) when her hits finally started to hurt.

Quote:Sure, but the citizens *need* that. Every day of their lives is a treacherous nightmare and they don't know if they're gonna survive it. They're constantly getting mugged, kidnapped, experimented on, having their souls sucked out, being mutated, and getting possessed by demons. They clearly can't look after themselves; half the time these poor people can't even figure out how to operate a flight of stairs. They need a grand, iconic symbol that they can point to and say "We have protectors too."You know, I actually like Atlas Park better that way. I've always had a problem with this huge central plaza in front of city hall, because all it does is it makes it feel fake, forced and needlessly grandstanding. We don't just have a city hall building, we have a city hall COMPLEX. It feels more like what you'd see in front of the king's palance in a Fantasy game.
Having City Hall be just one more building along a busy street seems a lot more natural to me.
...
What? I play on Virtue. I'm used to rationalizing things in-character. -
I'm mostly a street sweeper these days. I took Trip from mid 20s on up to 50 almost without touching a mission. And it's the older story arcs that did that to me. Two and three zone transfers, five minutes travel, just to talk to someone. And by the time anyone allows you to call them on the phone, you're finished their arc and will never speak to them again. It might be a little faster now with the merged transport lines but no less irritating.
Well there's also the fact that I hate messy maps. Like CoT caves, and those split-level offices that bend in around on themselves like an MC Escher painting... -
Can't hurt to bring along an Envenomed Dagger too. It's one of the craftable temp powers: -250% regen debuff, 80' range, 30 charges. When I did the arc (solo on a DM Regen Scrapper) it let me outright ignore his clones. Just keep chucking it at him whenever his green bar isn't dropping fast enough. I did the arc before the patch though, so I don't know if he's gotten stronger since.

Quote:Don't get me wrong, I'm all for adding in new badges. I just think that power-granting ones should be available to those who don't want to switch at any point, 'cause there are plenty of people who don't. But now, a little something extra for the grey-siders on top of what villains or heroes get... that's coolWell you don't need to completely switch from Villain to Hero JUST to get a badge.. I have most of my villains in Rogue status and a lot of heroes in Vigilante status. You can go to both sides, battle any and all GMs, participate in any TF or SF and still maintain your alliance to either Statesman or Lord Recluse. And of course once you have all the badges you want you can always switch back AND there is a badge for doing that too :-D
Quote:I think about the ONLY badge(s) unavailable to a Rogue are one exploration badge in Atlas Park (its located at the entrance to Recluse Victory and when you click the elevator it tells you.. Heroes Only!) and of course the Accolade for getting all the Atlas park Exploration badges because of that ONE badge in Atlas. -
Oh and another great part of the train merge... it's never been easier for a low-level hero to turn in event salvage! I don't know what it's like in the Isles, but blue-side this is a nice little bonus as well. You should have seen the wacky quest I sent those whippersnappers on: TP beacons, train stopovers, and a short breathless jog past +15 level Outcasts. Just because I didn't feel like waiting 20 levels for a 2nd costume. *Sigh...*
It was a fun day when I figured out how to do it though. -
Quote:I like it! I'd call the hero version "Stone Slinger" and the villain version "Goliath". And I'd wear them with prideI have suggested this before in passing but this seems like the perfect time to bring it up again.. How about a badge, an accolade, for defeating all of the Giant Monsters. My previous suggestion was only to include the COH ones but now that anyone can crosss over lets make it more interesting
Except the part about requiring a character to switch sides. There could always be a third, non-power accolade for getting both red and blue versions, but I don't think anything with a stat boost as its reward should require you to switch sides.
If the accolade gave a power boost, I'd suggest that it apply exclusively when fighting Monsters and Giant Monsters. Thematically speaking, fighting them isn't the same as fighting things that are close to your own size. It requires different tactics. (Not that I'd mind GM hunting teams forming more often, by people looking for the accolade. I love me a good monster mash)

Quote:Some people don't use an actual word for their password, they use a string of numbers and letters. It's a MUCH stronger password than anything resembling an actual word, but it can be difficult to remember and type correctly.I don't see the big deal with this. I still have to wait 30 seconds to log off and its not like it took me that long to type in my password.
Also, a lot of people use copy-paste to enter their passwords, and taking screenshots erases whatever else was in the clipboard. If you play fullscreen or on a less-than-high-end computer, it can take a while to switch over to whatever file you keep your password in, if it's manageable at all.
Maybe not issues everyone faces, but severely annoying to those who do. -
Now that sounds like a fun Ouro mission or Coming Storm TF. You travel back in time to the day when the Alpha and Omega teams began their attack, and the city still looked like it did at launch. Mysterious invaders have aimed a surgical strike directly at the heart of the devastated city while its heroes and villains are distracted with the Rikti. They too can travel in time, and ruthlessly chose the point when the city was at its weakest.
-
I'm thinking it's not that simple. Alpha abilities have two parts to them. The part that's not affected by ED should act the same way as a global bonus, since those ignore ED as well. However the part that is affected by ED is different. It has to apply itself to every power, but also factor in how much of a boost each power has from its own enhancements.
Which isn't to say that the Mids team can't do it, 'cause they're very good. It'll just take them a little longer.
-
Quote:Welcome back to the city! Also, when I last played (before you had to pick the fitness pool powers) it was useless to put more than 4 enhancements on Stamina and Health, is this still the case?
I can get a hero planning program and try and recreate my main as it is now and show you guys if that would help?
Someone just needs to tell me what the best program for that is nowadays.
Thanks
I won't pretend to be an expert on powers or builds, but the program you're looking for is called Mids' Hero Designer. Look for it at cohplanner.com.
Personally I never put more than 2 slots in Health or Stamina, unless I'm adding certain procs. I find the extra little bit you can squeeze out from a 3rd or 4th slot aren't as much of a benefit as using them to boost another power. But hey if it works for you, go for it! -
Quote:Well if I'm understanding that right, then...
Huh. Y'know, maybe there's just some conversations I should stay out of
Thanks for the info anyway! But I'm gonna think on that one a bit more before I pretend to have a grasp on it again. -

Great points all. For example, I completely agree on making use of the alternate means. I have learned enough about the markets in the last few months to be able to bring in substantial inf when I need it, but I spent a long time relying almost solely on what came from defeats. So I tend to be in the same boat as the alt-heavy players you mentioned. Trip herself maintains around 200-300mil on average, while a wide selection of other characters just take life as it comes. And that suits me fine. There are plenty of options for getting things I want, no complaints here.
I'm not going to stand here and insist that everything I said was absolutely true, especially when I was pretty much just paraphrasing what I had read on the subject over in the Market section. What I said earlier is my understanding of why inf sinks are considered important. But I know I'm more than capable of being wrong
If my reasoning is off though, then Wendy's question stands: Why do some people feel it's so important that we remove influence from the game?
