Been gone awhile and could use some catching up

I last actively played... um... a really long time ago. It would have been at least September of '09 and probably earlier. About the time i16 hit the servers, if I recall correctly.

I'm looking through the patch notes but there is a lot of stuff to work through. I picked up the GR pack. Anything else in the store I should get?

Could a kind soul(s) give be a brief rundown of the changes over the last year or so?

On a side note, the NC Soft account management screens seemed really wonky with IE8. Worked fine with Firefox 4. Anyone else with similar account management issues?

That's a tall order, best filled by consulting Paragon Wiki. Accept no substitutes.

Hm, okay, here:

Issue 17 gave us Ultra Mode (enhanced graphical upgrade), a revamped Positron TF (it's awesome now), new arcs in the 20 range using new mission technology (dopplegangers, mainly), craftable temporary powers, and the Silver Mantis SF was made available to all, not just supergroups with the expensive supercomputer.

Issue 18 (coinciding with the release of GR0, gave us the alignment system, whiuch includes with tip missions and side switching, the ability to set auras to "combat mode" (so you only see them when you attack), the merging of the auction houses, the old hero arcs about Praetorians were updated, the Cathedral of Pain returned, and some new critters in old villain groups (like the Girlfriend from Hell added to the Hellions).

Issue 19 introduced thew Incarnate system and two new TFs that start the Praetorian invasion of our world, all the monorails and ferries were merged, emergency ho9spitals were added to all zones, including trial and hazard zones, and the Fitness pool was made inherent to all characters at level 2.

That's all I can think of for now.

Ok, so like, an Agency called SAM was all like "yo my man, some dude's going around going "look at me, I'm you" so you have to go all OH NO YOU DIDN'T and then kill him".

A couple o' months later we got invaded by Marcus Cold, the King of Ice. Marcus Cold was all "MWA HA HA HA! YOUS ALL GUNNA DAH NOW" so his crack team of snowmen said "Yo Marcus Cold I'm really happy for you and Imma let you invade but I gotta go betray you." So, his snowmen rode their bikes from the North Pole to here, and then everyone was all "I like betraying people" and so they got the power to switch sides.

Another couple o' months later, Marcus Cold was all "KILL ALL PRIMALS!" so, we were all "MWA HA HA HA, FEAR ME FOR I HAVE THE POWER OF A WELL!" Marcus Cold's weakness is a well, considering it is the one place where his ice can not reach due to the shape. So, Marcus Cold melted. His neighbor's nephew's 3rd roomate's cousin's goldfish's former owner's best friend's wife, Lady Winter, brought back the Winter Event.

The End

This is where something more interesting than my global and this sentence would be.

Items and inf can now be e-mailed, just use your @globalname.

Heroes and villains can now trade. Markets are merged.

The last few enemies/glowies will now show up on the map (usually). Useful with kill-alls and such.

You can now have more active missions.

Conserve Power in Electric Armor is now Energize, is acts as a regeneration boost now.

Temperature Control in Fire armor now grants slow resistance.

Vigilance was buffed, if you like Defenders. It now increases damage on small teams/solo.

Did you get the Martial Arts Superbooster, aka the Natural Pack? Ninja Run alone is worth the price, and I like the costumes too.

*snip* Lots and lots of good info from everyone *snip*
I just had time to play for a little bit last night after the 1GB(!) of patches finished downloading but I noticed the monorails and some changes to the UI (helpful tips for newbie players, great idea!). Oh, and I retconned my low level stone tank who is now enjoying the benefits of Fitness without having to wait until L20 and paying for them! BONUS!

I can mail items and influence now? That last enemy or glowie is shown on the map? More active missions? Craftable temp powers? Fiends! What have you done with our Devs!?!?!

More like 40-50 I think? At any rate it gives a countdown so you shouldn't be blindsided.

It's 60 days, unless the mail server hiccups and chokes on it, so don't use the "gleemail" system as a storage device.

Teams are the number one killer of soloists.

Lately whenever the game shuts down for server maintenance there's a chance it also causes the mail server to rollback to a slightly older state, like a day or two earlier. It's caused many a valuable item to get eaten by grues, and also caused things that had already been claimed to show up once again. It may have been fixed by now, I haven't been keeping up. The second time I lost something from it i just stopped exiting the client with anything left in there.

I've been keeping a batch of tier3 insps in email. They come in handy when things get tough on a TF.
