I see nothing wrong with giant jugs. Just like real life, there are those who work in seedy joints with poles on the stage, and there are those who don't. The best part about CoH is the diversity and variety that is present. This applies to both player characters and signature characters. For every Swan in a skimpy outfit, there is a Valkyrie with a covered up costume.

That said, I don't really like that redesign either... I prefer the old "stripper" one better (see comments below)

Mine would go like this: However you want to characterize it – physical idealization or base objectification – it predates Liefeld’s birth by decades upon decades and seems to be pretty equal opportunity here in the 21st century. Certainly the physiques on the male characters are no more realistic and no less alluring (if that is your thing) than the female characters and I actually see it as far more liberated than the Silver Age where particular specialized attention was paid to just what the ladies could and could not show. Goose and gander, you know.

I don’t want to see every female in comics or this game to appear as an alluring sexpot but if some are, it feels pretty true to the escapism that these activities should be. It speaks to the genre and since Sister Psyche has been characterized as a little bit luscious in previous media, I’m in favor of that lusciousness being allowed to continue. And while this is undeniably an escapist activity that counts a diverse number of people with different sensibilities and values as members of the same community, shouldn’t that also be the case with the NPCs of the game world? Some folks are reticent about their bodies and some aren’t – having every mind you encounter be an open book for all of your prolonged life could very well affect your viewpoints on modesty. It might even make your breasts bigger. You know, because of science.
This, I agree with. Well spoken... at least better than I could say it. =)

And this as well. Swan doesn't need wings. The shawl is probably my favorite part of her design. I for one like Swan except for the see-thru-edness that is a problem with more than just her costume... fix the transparency that happens with all w/skin costumes and that will "fix" Swan IMO... although a higher rez model would be nice as well.

And as new options (like Ascension and Celestial Armor for example) continue to come online, it's increasingly doable. I'd use the highres wings instead, but otherwise, I dig what you've done here.

But if a character's core concept requires something we simply COULDN'T make in the CC, then yes--of course it should be built from scratch. As with everything, it's always a question of resources. Where is the team's time better spent: on a signature character or on a new costume set for you guys? In general, I think fans are happier when we go with the latter more often than not, but obviously we're still making plenty of from-scratch signatures too. It's just a matter of finding the perfect ratio.
    Resources? Make me stuff!

As we get more stuff, that allows the Signature Characters to get better stuff as well! That said, I think all signature characters need something to make them stand out as well... so a tiny bit of resources to give each SigChar a special something is fine. That said, people shouldn't be against signature characters updating their looks.... we have 5 costume slots... with potentially more to come.... what's to keep Ms. Liberty from her alternate costumes too? Not enough Halloween salvage?

OMG I soooooo like Bad Penny... SUCH a cool character concept!

If Positron actually looked like Picard in game, I'd have no problem with his helmetless look... unfortunately the in game model's... looks a bit less... um... Regal? Eloquent? Uber? Less Picardy?
  4. My Favorites Visually:
Numina - Beautiful character design (yay for contests!)... even moreso when she got "ghosted"
Mother Mayhem - Also very nicely designed. Lots of skin-windows... maybe that's what I like... or maybe long jackets...
Nightstar - and the Victoria Clockwork models. Armblades look mean and all the Praetorian Clockwork and the Warworks models are excellent models, and therefore Siege looks cool too =)
Bobcat - I actually *like* the simplicity of her model. That and the fact that she is lying there all slinky and relaxed. She does need new hair though...
Mirror Spirit - again with those long jackets...
Vandal - looks awesome and has that cool Megaman gun-arm
PPD Hardsuits and Powersuits - so good looking, especially compared to the poor Psi-Division's boring trenchcoats and the Awakened Division's bald heads.
Banished Pantheon - the Bosses... Floating masks and Totems are very neat... unlike the somewhat boring minions.
Emperor Cole - in his nice spiffy white suit.

    My Least Favorites:
Sister Psyche - Boooooooooring... for such an iconic character who looks soooo good in comics and other art, her model is terribly boring
Swan/Black Swan - Who I LOVE soooo much as a character (conceptually), yet is such a terrible waste in terms of her costume.
Synapse - I actually like his costume... but you know what bugs me? His pale sit on the couch pale vampirelike never get sun white bleached face... he stands in Skyway ALL DAY and can't get a little sun?
Positron's Head - I know... he's no longer living energy or whatever... but that head... the glare that comes off it when the sun is out is blinding!!

The 1 Person Who I LOVE more than anyone else in the game that needs a makeover because he is soooooooo awesome:
Blue Steel - he is the Chuck Norris of CoH. He can save the world 3 times, while helping lowbies train in King's Row. He doesn't answer to anyone, yet has the honor and respect of both heroes and the PPD. Can PWN anyone. Needs new pants (Pants->Camo, plz).... a Two-colored Flak Jacket... and the new(-ish) Official belt.

In the totally creep me out category:
Tarantula Mistresses, Tarantula Queens, and Regent Korol... ick!

    Oh, and...

If you simply like a character's story but DON'T like the visual, leave that out of this thread. It'll help me tally up the results of the visuals you actually like.
    Story in Visual Favorites:
Citadel/Siege - Robot dude jumping from body to body, therefore never dying... Awesome. (although in this case, you need to see his progression as well as the "current" body... in some ways that applies to Sister Psyche as well).

Blue Steel - Cop. Hero. Both. Dude with shield, kicking ***. Awesome. (still needs the minor costume updates as I mentioned above)

Numina - Ghost chick. Transparent and hovery... more ghosty than Ghost Widow.

Back Street Brawler - buff dude with uber gloves. That pretty much says it all.

Bobcat - Again, I love the simple costume... but the visual that makes her striking more than anything else is her "lying slinky/cat-like" pose... that tells more story than anything in the game.

Emperor Cole - He rules Praetoria. Literally. Majestic and appropriate for the ruler of a nation.

Tarantulas and Regent Korol - Still ick. But their striking visuals tell a LOT about how the characters... is power worth that?

Clockwork King - He always looked "comic-y" to me. And the brain in a jar look is very telling of his story. I love the visuals here when it comes to telling his story.

In the screen that comes up, you'll notice a place for Extra Command Line Parameters (Advanced):

Ta-da! Now the game will launch with the Golden GR Skin!
Ok, how about if I want to run CoH with 2 screen resolutions depending on if my laptop is connected to a monitor or not... do I have to go into the properties to change this every time? or is there a way to get 2 CoH entries in the "installed" column?

    Um... from what *I* understand...

VIP = Subscriber. You pay your $15/mo, you get to play everything.

Compare that to current system: same thing

Premium = former subscribers who want to just play for free. You get MM/Cont/etc. through paying a one time fee, OR if you have previously earned veteran rewards.

Compare that to current system: N/A. Right now if you are a former subscriber, you can't even log in... you may have bought the retail box, but you can't log in without a subscription... so CoH:Freedom... now gives you *some* of the game without a subscription...

I don't see that as a loss situation...

Combat stances have always been... Problematic, as ours are left-foot-forward, making a right-handed two-handed weapon a bit... Iffy to animate for. Furthermore, how would YOU envision your Titanic Weapon user standing in combat? Would he/she resemble one of the following:

    1. "Sword too heavy!" Character hunched over, sword resting on the ground beside, character lifting only one end by the hilt.

    2. "Sword on ma crotch!" Character holds sword with both hands extended down at arm's length, sword pointing up and forward.

    3. "I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK!" Sword resting on shoulder, reverse-side down, one hand on the hilt, the other hand at the side only grabbing the hilt when attacking.

    4. "I squat to parry!" Sword held horizontally at above head height as though to block with, both hands on the hilt, body crouching slightly, ready for action.

    5. "I am a boring person!" Regular left foot forward combat stance, sword held in one hand, swapping to two-handed grip only when attacking.

    ... (snip)

I'd be interested to hear where you guys stand on the above choices.
I only wish they *had* the option of Stances in the game... My "super strength" Titan Weapon would surely be the Lumberjack type... But I *looooove* the idea of the drag my weapon around little itty bitty character...

Oh and on a side note... Stance 2 should be the "I see your Schwartz is as big as mine" stance... =P
  11. Personally, I think they need to add a desperate girl, to go out with desperate guy, and when they get together, turndown girl can change her name to lonely turndown girl.
    :P
  12. I won't be rerolling any weapon characters... oddly enough, the one I may be rerolling most likely would be a SS Brute... To me swinging a telephone pole (please, please have a telephone pole) says "super strength" more to me than punching someone...

What would you all think of a scaling name release system?

    For instance:
[*]1 Year Inactive: Level 12[*]2 Years Inactive: Level 24[*]3 Years Inactive: Level 36[*]4 Years Inactive: Level 48 (or 50)

50s could remain untouchable, or they could be included. Nobody's coming back after four years inactive.

    So, what say the masses?

Amidst all this useless, non-productive bickering which seems to have degenerated into name calling and character bashing.... here lies a GREAT idea.... too bad no one will notice it among all the slander and midslinging.

Personally, this is something that the devs and devs alone can and will decide.... arguing here further is pointless. lets add suggestions... perhaps **civil* counterpoints... and let things work themselves out.
