Small Base Question - Setting up a personal base.

Being more of a follower than a leader - I've avoided: 1) setting up my own SG; and, 2) anything with base creation.

What I's like to do is this:

- set up an alt on my second account
- play my alt to lvl 10 - and then set up a SG
- add inactive characters and placeholder characters on both accounts) to the SG as needed
- build a small base to store enhancements (basically - my apartment).

Any thoughts on this? Is it feasible? How many alts do I need?

Any problems I'm not considering?

Swiss Rad - Lvl 50 Ill/Rad Controller
Belle de Jour - Lvl 50 Fire/Kin Controller
Honey Ryder - Lvl 50 Stone/Stone Tank
ThermoKing - Lvl 37 Gimped Fire/Ice Tank
... and many more ...

What happened to the nice stickied list of guides and such on this forum? It's gone from what I can tell.

To answer your question:

1.) You need 15 members in an SG to max out the "free" 300,000 prestige you get (20,000 per member for first 15).

2.) Once you start the SG, get all of those dummy alts into the SG and build your base.

3.) With 300k, you can easily have a base to store enhancements and whatnot. It is very feasible.

All true.

But you really only need roughly 8 members in the storage-closet SG. 160k prestige is enough for the smallest (1x2) workshop and an enhancement storage bin (holds 100). With 300k, you can have two enhancement storage bins in the 2x2 workshop.

The only thought I'd add, as a small and relatively inexperienced base builder myself, is if you want a vault in there it requires power (don't recall it needing control) which in turn requires at least the combo power and control unit. Skip the vault and you can build a base that has no power or control requirements and will work great as a "warehouse and apartment".

yes, it is very feasible. Started the SG on Portector as excatly this scenario (of course now we are much bigger ) But I also was able to do the same with a much smaller all alt SG on Victory. Use the combo power/control to start and you are good. You really will only need the combo room and a workshop to make this happen, but you may end up getting the base bug and need to have more! Have fun!

Thank you Capt for getting the thread re-stickied

A big thanks to Ex Libris for getting it re-stickied. I'd hate to see that nice thread purged after all those people did that work.

Of course, the Vault doesn't actually add any storage. It just gives you remote access to the storage space already assigned to your character which is already accessible at the Vault Storage locations (in various zones and Pocket D).

What I can say from experience is stick with it. I have been working on a solo base for over a year now. I can say that I almost did the cattle call for new members on a couple of occasions. But now it is up and going with access to almost all of the zones.
Good luck with it, and if you are wondering what a year of being a slave to CoH will get you, there is a link in the sig.

Once you get your starter base up an running try to form a coalition with another group. This way while you have limited facilities you cand use sections of their base to help you, such as teleporters and workshop. For months I used an established groups base for some functions until the huge prestige grant was given.

We did a similar thing. Instead of one big base with a lot of rent due, several of us made little rent-free bases and put them in a coalition. Each base had TP units to different places and their own storage bins to ensure the security. You could use any base's TPs, but could not touch their salvage/inspiration/enhancement storage.

For a solo base the oversight room's a nice deal. It's cheap, the power-control unit is cheap, and you can put a storage item (a bin or a salvage vault door) in it, and 1 workshop item. So, you could put an IO crafting table and a vault there, then tack on a 1x2 workshop and stick in an enhancement bin. (It's your walk-in closet!) The oversight room is 3x3, inefficient on a large base but a great amount of space to create a studio apartment. Just look at Djeannie's recent 1-room base representing a Carnival of Shadows tent!

Sometime last year, I actually had a list of 1-man-SG options. I think I even called the thread "1 man coalition". I'm pretty sure the thread has been eaten up by the forum monster, but I'll try to re-create it and post it in the Player Guides section.

No rent on the first plot (8x8).

Check out the guide in my sig for making the most out of that 8x8.

Ya, generally, a solo base won't have much need to grow beyond the first plot size... unless you get overly creative and want bigger/more rooms

In a solo sg, you really don't need more than one small tp room either. Once you get the beacons, you can change them out as you need them. It takes less than a minute to pop into edit, switch them, and then pop right back out. It doesn't cost any extra to switch them around and you don't have to come up with all of the energy and control needed to power a room full of them.

I run an 8x12 plot solo. 20,000 per month upkeep is very doable. I usually average 100k per month and that is playing semi-casually, with only about a third of my characters in that SG, the rest spread between villains and larger SGs with others. Of course, I never leave SG mode, as I make plenty enough influence to sustain myself through drops.

how does rent work? after you upgrade your plot, is it based on what plot you have or how much stuff you have or a combo of both? and how much rent does each plot cost each month is there a set amount for each one?

It's based on plot size.

I am a one person villain SG with all my alts in it. I have 15 alts in there so I'm at the max prestige I can get for members (starter prestige). If that is all you want, there really doesn't seem to be a need to upgrade your plot from the original 8x8, thus making rent a moot point.

I just earned enough prestige over the weekend to put in a control and energy room plus one each of the base control and energy pieces. Along with the starter combo set, this supplies more then enough energy and control to run my two transporters, my medbay my salvage storage and invention table. I've read and found it to be true that you really don't need more then 4 teleport beacons if you are a villain.

So yes it's very doable and I have to admit I've had loads of fun making my own private base. Now as I earn more prestige I can play around with the decor and really get it looking sweet.

How do you efffectively use it to Store Enhancements again?

It seems like I'd have to login 2 accounts and manually hand-off the Enhancements to an Alt in the second Group to store them there.

I know this had been discussed before, but I don't recall there being a good solution to this - when the trial account expires I can't really access the 2nd group - I still have an alt from my normal account in the group, but he's the only Character that I can really use the 2nd Base's Enhancement Storage for, correct?

Any person that can access the base via coalition or the team leader being in the group, can drop off storage there. Only a person in the group that has the appropriate permission can actually draw things from storage. You can use that person to mule the stuff back to the regular group and drop it off in those bins so your other characters/friends/sg mates can use it.
