The name the guy was allowed to retain is that of a well known Greek God.
You can keep a copyrighted name until you are caught by a GM or reported by a jerk (er i mean fellow player). Sorry to hear about all your nerfed names - I really do hate that - but maybe try adding some flavour to them. Instead of just "Sentinel" - maybe "Dark Sentinel" or "Red Sentinel" or "Happy Lucky Sentinel 97"

My names are awesome and they seem to be at least original enough that I've never had a problem with anyone "getting it first".

10 minutes later, a toon named Generic ### ### #### starts yelling at me that i should get lost because i got his toon Gen'd, his second in a few days. Again, a whole altercation followed, and he said he was going to report me for harassment. Only thing i said: : "Good luck."

Now, obviously if he has two toons that got Gen'd in a few days, this player has no imagination. His reaction, albeit a little, just a little, understanding, was directed at the wrong person. I never reported him prior, or even after the incident, all i did was laugh.

Would it be a smart policy to not only protect the game, but also the players from these type of people that could potentially hurt the game, but also drive people away because of the repeat offender's attitude because he get's angry about the fact his toons get Gen'd.
One way i see is a simple ban for a period after your 3rd Generic in a set amount of time.

Now i hear people say: "hey, i have been playing 7 years, and i had 3 toons Gen'd in that period, i should not get banned!" And i agree.
But i do not agree with the fact that people get to oust their frustrations after a 2nd Gen'd toon in less than 1 week, and this has to stop.

People should get banned for being a repeat offender in a short amount of time. These people will add nothing new to the table, and will only cause harm to the game in the long run, and the player base.
As i stated, i got his full wrath, because he thought i got two of his toons Gen'd. If he went off on a newer player, that new player might just quit the game in order to not deal with these types of people, where as i merely laughed in his face because i knew i did nothing wrong.

Anyone who has any suggestions or feedback regarding this?
Ok... first of all when did it become a prerequisite to be creative to play a game? Most of us are here because we like the superheroes we grew up with and want to be just like them. I had Wolverine and Batman in mind when I created my first toon. We pay our $15/month and want to punch stuff. Nuff Said.

As for protecting the game from lawsuits by reporting on your neighbour..... you're only fooling yourself. The lawsuit is settled and NCsoft takes reasonable steps to avoid infringing on registered trademarks. Again, nuff said.

As an aside to naming regulations - yes, I had a name gen'd and got very angry. It had nothing to do with a copywrite violation, it involved someone reporting me because they didn't like my name. I sat an read the user agreement (it's since been updated) and found that pretty much every name in the game can be gen'd because NCsoft has so thoroughly covered their *****. It said specifically amoung other things that you could not use body parts in your name. Obviously they didn't want certain parts used, BUT by the wording, "Eagle Eye" and "Fist of Fury" are forbidden. You going to report those too?

Finally, I think everyone has missed that your global @dark energon, is a reference to power cubes in the Transformer universe.

    Go report yourself dude.

Ah, I never answered your original question. No I am not sick and tired of the lack of imagination in others. I like my toons and don't really care about yours. Generally, I find the people that complain about names and costumes, have pretty crappy ones themselves.

    Identical experience here......

    /rad superteam
mowing missions at +4 by level 10....
and yeah.... it got boring and we all quit around level 40

that was before incarnates.... but I imagine itrials would be a joke with such a team

Turn monitor off and go to bed for the night.

I hit hit [rest] then pop 10 break frees and walk into fire like in the east end of st martial. Then go to sleep and wake up with the damage badge.

Perhaps thats one some people didnt know - that you can walk around in rest with breakfrees
  7. Some of you have a lot of power trays open - are you familiar with the magic of "popmenus"?

  8. I'm having the same problem. Pre-i21.5 i could run 5 accounts on my desktop and another 5 on my laptop. Post i21.5 running 2 instances cause lag and freezing on both.

    quad-core/8gig ram/2gig nvidia
    quad-core/6gig ram/ati 4250

    Both running minimum graphics.

They still use the same amount of ram (1.5gig 1st instance, .5gig for each thereafter). I did not notice the cpu usage before.... but now its definately showing 100% on both with even 1 instance of the game running.

Perhaps related to itrials? I seem to remember shortly after incarnates were first introduced a huge decrease in performance that was remedied fairly quickly. Seems there was some kind of "extra processes" in itrials which they removed. Can't find the link at the moment.....
  9. Hell yeah I use global channels! Don't know what I did without them!

Whenever I have a chance I push the global channels on n00bs. Someone did the same for me once.

I play on all servers so it is difficult to get by on only 15 channels, so generally I pick the most populated and/or active ones. I also keep all of them running in one window so I can see whats going on and can server hop at any time if I see something fun going on. It does get hectic during peak hours!

Because I server hop so much (and have too many toons to remember their names and what server they are on) - I colour the channel(s) of the server I am currently playing on red (though not as red as the admin text).

Therefore, if I see something red, I can run and do it. If its not red, I switch.

    Fool-proof?

    Almost.....

I understand that books and comics don't necesarily translate well to the big screen and require "tweeking", but they aren't just changing a fundemental part of the lore: they're really screwing up the title too. Why even have turtles? Make them cute puppies or happy pandas. Or even go with these.....

    • do you really need to run at that resolution? have you tried lowering it to accomodate the game? have you tried adjusting the window scale under menu - options - windows - user interface - window scale. this adjusts all the windows. there is a slash command to adjust individual windows but it fails me at the moment
    • personally i like that the game doesnt "hold your hand" and walk you through every little detail on how to meet which contact, etc. i like that you have to figure things out, do some research, or ask help from friends. also i don't think it would be feasible for the game to inform you of everything with all of the wide and varied content.
    • rogues are much more than tourists! you can do any heroside content, even form task forces and participate in heroside hami raids - errr - okay with a few exceptions. you cannot join a heroside cathedral of pain, DFB, and DIB. and or course hero oro arcs..... i'm sure someone will correct me if there are others.
    • here is a list of all the ways to get your own oro portal http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Entruste...e_Secret_Badge
welcome to city of heroes, hope you enjoy your stay
  11. For me its the character slots. I'm not particularly enamored with incarnates tbh, but I do have a lot of toons. More than 100 level 50's that I wouldn't have access to.

When freebies/preemies whine about not getting everything for free I want to smack them. There is so much content available for free that I often have to remind myself why I pay.

Honestly, if I started playing City Of Heroes today, I would have 50 free accounts with the 2 free toons on each.
  12. Got it. I did restart... twice.... turns out 3rd time was the charm. thx
  13. I often copy (ctrl+c) and paste (ctrl+v) in game. And all was fine until this morning. Now when I highlight text and try to copy - the ctrl key seems to not be recognized and i close the chatbox as if i had just hit the "c" button on its own.

Copying and pasting works fine outside of the game, but only pasting works in game.

I have cleared my binds and set keymapping to defaults, but can't seem to copy text from in game.

    Anyone know what I'm missing?

Its hard to go wrong with a mastermind. They are tough and versatile with even the most minimal slotting. Your pets are your damage and defense, while your secondary can provide heals, shields, buffs, and debuffs. I like all masterminds and have my favorites, but perhaps if you are new to them a demon/therm might be a good starter.

Demons have a bit of everything, ranged, melee, buff, heal - and the thermal secondary is also a kind of complimentry jack of all trades with heals, buffs, debuffs. You can find many good posts here on the forums and externally throughout the net on masterminds and in depth controls of them if you choose to make binds, macros, and popups to command them.

One important thing you should know especially for team playing however is controlling your pets to not aggro everything (team-mates tend to not like that). One useful bind/macro is for "bodyguard mode" /macro BG petcomall def fol

This commands your pets to defend you and follow. By doing so your inherant ability of supremacy allows your pets to share any damage inflicted upon you. They also dont aggro everything, only attacking those who attack first.

There are too many nuances and strategies to go into, just thought this would be a helpful starter. Have fun!
  15. It does sound like the motherboard, but could possibly be the power supply (even though it shows power to the motherboard). Do you have another you could pop in to try?
  16. my 2 inf.

They said something to the effect that game changes from the SSA won't be implemented until i23 because the SSA will still be in play when i22 hits...
So.. i'm putting i22 sometime between the end of the spring event, but before SSA1 part7. First 2 weeks of March is likely.

I'm actually more excited about who will die part 7!

I'm going to ASSUME that its all part of the Freedom project. With the influx of new cash from the F2P model (irony?) we are getting more stuff, content, costumes, and yes - support. Before Freedom I would have to wait hours for a petition and often gave up and logged. Now if I have a concern I am assisted within minutes. So from where I'm sitting they are doing good.

It's too bad you are not happy with your experience, but you still must give them an "A" for effort. Keep providing feedback to them to let them know what you think they are doing wrong, and how they can make it better.

For those that didnt want a GM to show up.... don't petition! Its pretty much as easy as that...... there are other ways to make complaints besides the ever handy "petition".

Also by now everyone should be familiar with /gignore and /ignore.

Its just a game - ignore the ever present idiots and move on.

If you're not having fun then the haters have won!
  18. I look forward to each of the SSA's. It reminds me of the days when I would purchase comics off the shelf. Even knowing that States was going to die I looked forward to part 5 and more - enjoyed it. I looked forward to part 6 and was not disapointed. Sista P died too? omg! Now, I can't wait another month for part 7!

My biggest complaint is probably that Yin's costume is kind of lame

    Otherwise - keep 'em coming!

    Try turning off ultra-mode?

I know ultra-mode is so pretty, but personally I can do without it so that hasten and ss arent so annoying.

    TechSpider/Kinetic Kitten
Hell yeah! Hey its been a while!

Satanized is one of my many current masterminds and I remember mmroject - the all mastermind ice mistral we did way back when. (I think that was the first SF i ever did too).

I am always interested in doing all mastermind events, and have even hosted a couple myself. Someone started a channel "masterminds" that i thought might be good for arranging events, but have yet to see a mod. Perhaps a new global channel would be useful where we could get all mastermindy together?

So the answer is yes.... I would be interested in completing the mmproject or even just running all the redside content over again

    @torment and agony
  21. I too am looking for anything mastermind!

I am currently in a all mastermind VG on victory (contact @pimpstress bambi) and am interested in contacting an all mastermind SG i heard about on Exalted.

If there are all mastermind groups on any active server I am interested in joining! Please contact me if you have such a group - my global is the same as my forum name.

There is a "Masterminds" global channel I joined (700+ members) unfortunatly I have yet to see more than 10 people online at any given time or a mod. Perhaps this channel or a new one could be used for masterminds to form teams on the various servers?
  22. Thanks to all those who participated in Mastermind Monday over the past few weeks!

I had a lot of fun and will continue to form all Mastermind teams in the future.....

    however....

for the forseeable future I will not be hosting regularly scheduled Mastermind monday events.

Any insight? If there's a method to the madness, I'd like to know what it is.

    Hey Ukase!

    1. Skipping the outer perimeter and turrets have been done for some time on other servers, this may only be relatively new to Liberty. Also ignoring the acids and having everyone get grenades and wait for marauder where he spawns. Widely known as a slam (speed lamda).

    2. Why? For reward/time ratio of course. Previously we all needed iXP. Now with many/most of our toons at +3 we just want the end rewards. A "regular lam" takes around 25mins... while the speed lam takes less than 12. (i timed it for fun). Plus at less than 1/2 the time - we can do it on 2x as many toons

If I don't need the ixp - i ONLY run slams.
