A couple thoughts I have are:
* Swap Build Up at level 30 for Hasten. Mainly because it allows Consume and Healing Flames be up more often in big fights. If you could drop one of the attacks (Energy Punch?), bring Fire Shield forward and take Hasten earlier it means you could have it slotted sooner which may be better.
* Swap the Damage IO with an Endurance Reduction IO in Blazing Aura - but this all depends on what your Endurance management is like.
Edit - another thing to think about if you do burn through endurnace quickly is getting the Numina Unique (which starts at lvl 30 and can be bought with Merits) and slot that in Health which will give you a Regen and Recovery boost. -
Quote:Im going to throw a vote in for Electric/Fire mainly because of the sentence "I mostly like to shoot stuff and not worry about the consequences to much"I mostly like to shoot stuff and not worry about the consequences too much. What I am looking for is another Blaster build idea. I like having some complexity for sure. All the positioning, control, utility made me much happier than having nothing but attacks would. Anyone have a fun idea for my style?
Electric/Fire is the most suicidal blaster Ive tried. By level 10 you have 4 AoEs (3 of which are PBAoE) - its very much kill or be killed!
It probably does lack some of the utility you enjoy although it does get one immobilise, one hold and Hot Feet as a mitigation tool. You can also dip into the APPs for a bit of extra utility. -
Quite a few of toons have connections. And they are all horribly intertwined, they just kind of evolved as I was coming up with concepts.
Black Karhu and Tired Angel are best friends. Dr Hooked is Black Karhu's arch-nemesis.
Atomic Daemon and Atomic Hell are clones of Black Karhu created by Dr Hooked. Ghost Fiend and Dr Hooked have been known to work together.
Black Karhu recruited Shadow Mercury (before he became a bit unhinged) into the SG GGRRR.
Shadow Mercury, followed by Black Karhu, trained Mind's Arrow. SM then went onto mentor Shining Darkness.
Mind's Arrow then trained Pyschic Whisper.
Apocalyptic Jester and Sir Tristan know all of the above through the SG GGRRR. Apocalyptic Jester's sister is Halloween CarnEvil. Chiller Insect knows them all to from working in GGRRR and has a daughter called Shar'Lan Ze.
Dark Polar Karhu, Karhu Varjo and Karhu Junior are from alternative dimensions and know Black Karhu through the course of their adventures. Karhu Junior's best friends are Angel's Ghost and Kitten is High. Veiled Moon is an operative from the same dimension as Dark Polar Karhu and is hunting him due his betrayal of his dimension.
Shazoo is Black Karhu's cousin. Baby Bam is Shazoo's sidekick and Bane Wolf's girlfriend. Bane Wolf and Ghost Fiend arch nemesises.
Tristar Phoenix's (a PB) origin is intertwined with Black Karhu and is married to the WS Omega Sentry.
Charlie Bright and Greg Wise are partners. Captain J. Fist used to be Greg Wise's commanding officer.
Rendraka, The Devil Divine, Jade Dragon Disciple and Golden Tech Knight work together as a small group investigating magical disturbances.
Techno Sage Mai and Techno Sage X'Tar are married and are hunting Techno Sage Zeebad.
Mai Ishtar and X'Tar Ishtar are borther and sister (oddly Techno Sage X'Tar and X'Tar Ishtar aren't related!).
There is a version of Black Karhu called Karhu of Light which haven't met yet.
There are alternative dimensional versions of Tired Angel called Tired Angel (same name, different server, baddy), Hell's Angel Uriel, Tortured Angel, Cold-Tech Angel and Tired-Angel. -
I use the random costume generator button when I get stuck like that. I don't actually use exactly what they give me but sometimes get some inspiration from the combinations/colours used which then allows me to build a toon cossie I like.

Quote:I think Cimerora also has difficulties because you are required to have finished the Midnighter Arc before you can get there.RWZ does.
Cimerora I can see why they don't add it in, as it has a specific background to it. It is also located in the last level locked place in the game. Wether I agree with that or not makes no odds; thats the way it is.
As for Fire Base Zulu (and the other Shadow Shard places) Ive always wondered why there isn't a TP to there. Would make things a little easier. -

I generally go for a mixture of the BM/WW teleport power and the Base prestige bonus power at first.
I will sometimes go for Pocket D or the Arena for the +recovery or +endurance powers.
On one of my toons I generally stay in the Vanguard base for the bonus merits
Apart from that I just log out where ever is the nearest place is. -
Now only if I was snowed in at home and all I could do was play CoX!
Damn Central London smog making it warmer and melting the snow -
Quote:Its amazing the stuff you can find on Wiki when you're board at work! In fact I was reading that article again just a few mins before I read this thread!Wow, he even got wiki-fied XD
Thanks for the info, TA =]
Hey, we both have the same Forum name initials...>_> *shrug*
Hmmmmm, I think the world may implode.... or maybe not! -
I kind of like the idea because the named bosses at the end of a mission are the same or do sometimes actually feel weaker than the standard ones. And that doesn't make sense in my head!
My only concern is that there are a lot of named bosses out there (just checked Freakshow in paragon wiki who have about 70!!) so it means potentially having a lot more EBs out there. Maybe there could be something between Boss and Elite Boss could be created for them.
Just my thought. -
Quote:http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki//jrangerHere we go, I show my actual ignorance...
Who was JRanger?
Quote:/jranger is a meme meaning no. JRanger was a poster on the Official Forums who would reply to ideas on the Suggestions and Ideas forum with long, descriptive posts listing the reason or reasons he disagreed with the original suggestion. When these descriptive posts went either ignored or disparaged by multiple suggestion-makers, he finally started responding to ideas he disagreed with by only stating "no" without further explanation.
Eventually, instead of saying "no", users started replying to posts by simply saying "/jranger" instead (the first instance being Memphis_Bill 9/21/07, since purged). Both actions were ultimately made actionable and "bannable" by Ex Libris[1]. Although it ultimately led to JRanger being banned from the Official Forums, the usage still sees some use on the PWNZ forums and at least once by Back Alley Brawler (since purged) after this rule was placed. -
Quote:It was the thought Oil Slick/Glue Arrow/Ignite/Flamethrower combo that made me roll a AR/TA corruptor. Im used to the redraw of TA from my Mind/TA controller - I just found if I can group the TA attacks together as much as possible then its not so much of an issue. Im going to try and apply the same to the AR/TA.JAM
Oh and oil slick/ignite is a pretty elite synergy. lots of prep work with a glue arrow, sonic, acid, + maybe a freeze/emp to hold the boss type, but the damage of a double ignite patch is friggin epic.
Mines only level 4 so still got a way to go until the magic combo -
Quote:Sorry bad choice of words on my part - I was trying to lump the APPs and PPPs into one. They are ancillary, not epic. Anyway, why is it "having" to do an "extra" arc? I thought more content was a good thing. They give some decent merits, too!
The advantage would be to take the patron arc, get the merits and respec, then switch back to hero side so you get "the good powers".
And I do like the Patron Arcs, don't get me wrong, I guess the point I was trying to make was that if you dinged level 41 hero side you wouldn't have had to worry if you have done the arc before they can choose the power.
I guess in my head I saw it as the other way around - switch to blue side at 40, ding 41 and get the APPs, switch back to red and do the arcs at your pace to get the merits and respec and respec into the PPP if you wanted.
Anyway I think both things will happen and it all depends how the APPs/PPPs will work in GR. -
Although I have some specific characters which I know will go Rogue/Vigilante I am very tempted to make all my toons go the middle of the road simply because I enjoy both the content of CoH and CoV equally so having characters that can do both would be brilliant.
It would mean I could play the toon I want to play (I suffer from a bad case of altism) and not have to worry about not playing with online friends because they are on the opposite side to me.
And for me I don't get the Red vs Blue AT comparison (athough I know there are similarities) because to me they all play differently and feel different.
* I prefer Tanks over Brutes, Scrappers, Stalkers because of they're higer levels of protection.
* Yet I prefer Brutes over Scrappers because of the addrenaline rush of Fury
* I prefer Defenders over Corruptors because the focus is on buff/debuffs
* Yet I prefer Corruptors over Blasters because they have a greater diversity of powers
* I enjoy the methodical nature of Controllers but also enjoy the aggressive style of Dominators and also enjoy the diversity their powersets provide
* I haven't found anything that plays like a Mastermind!
* And I haven't been able to get into Kheldians and Stalkers
Edit:
I guess the flipside could also be asked, how many villains will switch sides at that point just to be able to get an EPP without having to do an extra arc. -
Quote:* All missions in all Task Forces, Strike Forces, Trials and Story Arcs are now flagged 'Defeat All'* In response to player complaints that there has been a depressing lack of new content lately, Issue 17 will see the new Deluxe Edition of the Positron Task Force. This edition will include 6 further missions, the introduction of Sappers into lower level play, the new Unresistable Knockdown Ruin Mage and a reduction of Merits in the final reward. The new badge text for the TF will read "Maybe this will teach you ba***rds not to complain!"

For me its a mix of arcs which are good game play wise and which are good story wise. They incude:
5-15: Hollows arcs (Wincott, Flux, Julius, Talshak) - mixture of good game play and a good story
10+: Montague Castanella (Midnighter Club entry arc) - good story, although gets a bit drawn out towards the end
15-19: Vahzilok Plague (Olivia Chung, Dr. Ann-Marie Engles, Pavel Garnier, Juliana Nehring) - you get to face off with a title bad guy in this
15-24: Faultline (Temblor, Yin, Delilah, Agent G) - great story and great game play
20-25: Mercedes Sheldon (2 arcs from inside Midnighter Club) - great game play
20-24: Wheel of Destruction (Dr. Cheng, Oliver Haak, Piper Irving, Josef Keller, Andrea Mitchell, or Cain Royce) - I just found this fun
25-29: Scroll of Tielekku (Miriam Bloechl or Laura Brunetti) - the same with this one
25-35: Croatoa and Striga Arcs - these are ok, although they get a bit drawn out after a while
35+: Rikti War Zone (Laventera, Drummer, Gaussian, Dark Watcher) - great stories and game play
35-39: Terra Conspiracy (Ginger Yates), Revenant Hero Project (Gordon Stacey), Organ Grinders (Steve Sheridan) - a bit 'grindy' in places but some good stories
40-44: The Evil Countess Crey (Janet Kellum), The Praetorian War (Tina Macintyre), Devision: Line (Angus McQueen), Stolen Power (Daedalus) - some good stories and game play
45-50: Future Threat (Daedalus), A Hero's Hero (Maria Jenkins), To Save a Thousand Worlds (Unai Keman) - last two can be a bit long but good some good stories
I also enjoy:
* Respec Trials (all 3 of them!)
* Synapse TF
* Sister Psyche TF
* Moonfire TF
* Imperious TF
* Stateman's TF
* Lady Grey TF
Although all the TFs are worthing doing at some point -
Quote:I haven't read the whole thread (sorry) but my main thinking around this is that it is a limitation of how missions are issued in CoV (and CoH). Because you rely on contacts to give out missions it difficult to write story arcs that revolve around villains doing naughty things of their own free will. You can't really get the feeling of "today I am going to go take over the world and I am going to do it like this" it is more "today so and so is taking over the world and I am going help them by following their plan".I can play villains just fine. I just can't play the sort of villain that the CoV story arcs seem designed for.
My villains are typically motivated by a desire for power. If you get in the way of one of my villains, he'll remove you as efficiently as possible. If you stay out of his way, he'll ignore you (and might even help you, if doing so would increase his power).
The CoV missions I've encountered seem to be designed for amoral mercenaries or sociopaths, and totally at odds with the motivation of my villains -- you don't gain power by being somebody's lackey. The only CoV character I've gotten beyond level 20 did so through a mix of newspaper missions and MA arcs.
Some newspaper missions simultate this with the whole "go kill so and so because they've annoyed you" but for me these lack any real depth.
I would love it if there were ways to initiate your own story arcs (and this works for heroes as well in doing heroic things) where you decide your motive and the game gives you options on how to pursue this yourself. So you can get the I am going to break in and steal some top secret Crey plans - I can do this by doing x, y or z mission, and then I can do a, b or c mission to find someone to sell them to etc.
I guess this would work like newspaper missions which develop the stories further and would have branching story arcs. -
Yeah - its down the corridor opposite the entrance to Roman place (can't remember its name!). There is a badge in that room along with a woman sitting at the big table, she is the store.
Quote:-Entering an Ouroboros portal will interrupt people using Base Teleporters, Mission Teleporters and Assemble the Team powers nearby. Kindly wait for them to finish before you enter. Presumably, it will interrupt all interruptible powers.
My own little fact is:
* The only interzonal teleporter power will take you to Steel Canyon (bar mission TP) is the Wentworth TP power (day job or bought power). Very useful for one of Blue side talkie TF missions as the person is right next to the Steel Canyon Yellow Line. For the life of me I can't remember which one it is though! -
Quote:I was going to post this earlier but didn't have time as I was at work but there are quite a few builds which allow you this:muahahahahaha!
Earth/rad gives you FOUR powers that can take hold sets.
* Dark/Ice Defender and Ice/Dark Corruptor has 3 holds and get a fourth from APP and PPP
* TA/Ice Defender and Ice/TA Corruptor has 4 holds and gets a fifth from APP and PPP
* All */Rad and all */TA controllers get four hold powers and can get fifth from APP Stone Mastery
* As above but Grav, Earth and Mind get powers which can slot Kinetic Crash for the fifth 7.5% set bonus
* Tanks inheritant allows taunt to be slotted in all powers so they can get five 7.5% bonuses like that (i.e. Mocking Beratement) - may not be the best idea though!
* All characters with Storm Summoning have the oppurtunity to slot up to four 7.5% bonuses with Kinetic Crash, so paired with an Ice Blast or any controller they can get five 7.5% set bonsues easily.
* Dominators with Earth Assault get 3 holds -
Mainly I use my head - I generally have a good idea of what toons I have and their approx level. But it is slightly easier as Im EU as I only have two servers which I can play on (I don't speak French or German though I wish I could!)
Apart from that I dont track anything.
I did consider creating a spreadsheet to track what rare salvage and recipes I have on each toon but have never gotten around to it. -
When I read the title I automatically thought /Storm but you've already levelled one! hehe
But I would throw in a vote for Grav/TA. It would be a cool combo with extra damage coming from Oil Slick Arrow/Disruption Arrow/Acid Arrow. The extra ST and AoE hold, slows, sleep etc help fill some of the control holes from Grav.
Grav/TA also allows you to stay completely at range as there are no PBAoE powers to worry about.
Also the ToHit debuff from Flash Arrow will help boost the effectiveness of your friends FFG. -
Quote:This made me giggle! Nothing like having high tech holographic gadgets and holding it all together with duct-tapeOr you could go for a scientific / technological explanation, saying that all the effects are created by holographic and force projections, gadgets duct-taped to arrows, etc.
And love the winter cossie Thirty-Seven! Kind of looks like a artic version of the Jawas from Star Wars -
Quote:I agree with this and if it was fixed like that it would go against the whole grey thing of Going Rogue. Please, no Resistance=Hero, Loyalist=Villain.
Please, no Resistance=Hero, Loyalist=Villain.
Please, no Resistance=Hero, Loyalist=Villain.
Please, no Resistance=Hero, Loyalist=Villain.
...
A psycho more suited to be a villain could join the resistance because they just wanted an excuse to blow something up! And someone who was genuinely good (if a little misguided IMO) could be working as a loyalist but would be more suited as a hero. -
Bill pretty much covers it and I would definitely encourage a little experimentation.
When I first started I loved playing my Tank, after that I fell in love with Controllers, then with Defenders, then with Brutes and now I am back with Tanks again.
I also enjoy Masterminds and Dominators.
To me all of these are great fun and are the best in my books.
However I have never been able to get into Scrappers, Stalkers or Kheldians.
So have a play around, read the power set descriptions and have a look at some of the powers and see what appeals to you the most!
