Quote:Heck, use the existing torso and shoulder pieces and side bits for arms. Like the organic armor from the Mutant(?) pack, would make for a great alternate arm, in regular and thorny versions. Or Omega. Or Stone. Or Animal fur arm w/ monstrous hand. And the list goes on and on. There's a ton of different things that we already have in-game for arms and gloves that could work really well. It's just a matter of rethinking "robot arms 1, 2 and 3" to something a little bit broader design-wise.Great ideas. Would love to see some of these options for arms. We have the 1 or 2 or 3 option for upper body, upper arms. Love to see some of this stuff.
Or tights, with a handful of patterns, could give us an asymetrical costume look, without breaking things too much. Or bare arms(muscled or smooth) for a one-sleeve look. -

Heck, if Ah-nold can do it, then Duke or Roadblock should manage roughly the same.

And pirate ghosts. And the Croatoa ghosts, are they more or less the same ghosts that show up with the ghost ship?

Not that random or crazy.
Look at this: http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/news/n...ty_program.php
Salute to Statesman loyalty program that we get for staying subbed between December 1st to March 31st.
Sure, it's a nice name for a loyalty program. But what if he dies at the end of the SSAs? Wouldn't that be a good reason to salute him? -
Quote:Wouldn't these make more sense as Titan weapons? For Staff Fighting, I would like to see a Street Light/Lamp and/or a Traffic Light, a makeshift weapon from the street.
For staff weapons, a couple spears would be nice too, seeing as elemental versions were mentioned in the ustream, that they'd ignore effects, can't see any reason to withhold the pointy spear type weapons for Staff Melee, assuming that you don't intend to make a bladed spear/pike/trident type weapon set shortly after releasing Staff melee.
Also, some sort of collapsible simple staff, for the high-tech/magic staff fighters would be pretty cool too. Doesn't have to have any glowy bits, just a staff that extends when you go into or out of combat mode. You can also make a tech/magic glow enhanced version, but don't forget the simple collapsible staff version as well.
Also seeing as you're looking at the thread: Can I remind/request/beg you design folks not to pre-tint any of the staffs? So, we don't end up with a brown staff, even if we choose white as a color? Thanks! -
Quote:I think the thing you're missing is that not every character is a "main" character. For every "main" character, there's a pile of guys getting downed by a turret.I think we shall agree to disagree
I don't remember too many comics where turrets downed a man character (other than the Phoenix suicide scenario but that doesn't really count).
No offense, but maybe you're just not a "main" character. -
Quote:That probably comes from the fact that a lot of people were saying: Now what? Where's the endgame? Other games have raids, why don't we have them? What am I supposed to do with my all purpled up guy? Well, guess I'll go roll up a new character.Agreed. I think the thing that bothered me the most about the incarnate system is that when it was released, the Devs seemed honestly suprised that there was interest in a solo path. It showed a shocking disconnect with the playerbase.
It's not that hard of a stretch, really. -
Quote:I absolutely disagree with part of this characterization of Lex.Lex Luthor is one of my favorite villains. Why? Because he believes that he is saving the world from Superman. Lex honestly believes that Superman is a bad influence on the world, despite how many lives that have been saved. Lex may go about this in all the wrong ways, but he honestly believes he has the world's best interests at heart.
I fully believe that this is the lie Lex tells himself because he's jealous of Superman's power. Lex wants that power for himself and in a number of cases attained it and then accomplished nothing with it, but his own selfish goals. He doesn't trust anyone with that level of power, because Lex knows what Lex would do with it. -
I want all of it.
I recognize that every villain, or character for that matter, I make can't be everything, so I figure out what types/niches I'm interested in playing and might work well with the people that I'm playing with and find a way to make a character that fills that spot.
Granted, that's a small portion of it, but then I go into a partial history in my head, leaving swaths of it blank in case I need room to add in something else down the line. But, primarily so that I can see if I like the idea of who the character is.
The trick for me, is to look at the bigger picture. If I know that this character is going to be running with group x, he doesn't necessarily have to shine all the time, as much as make an impression. I don't mind the idea of my character being background filler in a multitude of other personalities. For me, a lot of my characters are supposed to be a part of a greater whole. It helps that I don't need, or want for that matter, to have all my characters be front and center all the time as well.
Or if they are a big idea/concept character, I find a way to either make that work in my head and most of the world around them, which means, that they might not work as a part of a group.
While I see the point of building a big self-image for a character, I don't necessarily have to like or respect the characters that I play. I just make sure I know who they are, what lines they're willing to cross and what sorts of things that they believe and what they say that they believe but are just lying to themselves about. -

Quote:Have you considered using different builds so that you can use both?I forgot about the floating book emote! So I guess that's two so far. Also, I must agree that this group fits just well as an enemy group and of course as a group where former members will leave to use their powers as full heroes, rogue villains or straight up vigilantes. My toon is in the midst of the moral choice of becoming a villain just to attain soul mastery or stay a vigilante and attain the epic power to control fire. Either way it still represents the lore of the Circle of Thorns.

Quote:Yeah, please please please take a look at this, as some of the textures of the some of the newer things shift the color palette leaving us to scramble around the limited assortment of colors looking for a close match.I've been meaning to ask something about this sort of thing. Are we going to see more and more pre-textured items in game? I'd love to make-use of some of the parts like the Victorian Corsets but the texture colour-shifts things and makes it hard to match them up. For instance, the colour white with the pre-texturing comes out grey.
If you were looking at keeping the old style and the new wouldn't it be an idea to try and have both for the new pieces? a High-Res and Simple version?

Nah, it'd make more sense to fill out the set with the remaining Bow, Claw and Katana and then loop back with round two new set of tier 9 Celestial II weapon set, wouldn't it?

Quote:Have you seen X-men: First Class yet?2) for the characters to work on film for an all-ages audience, they needed to drop the super-saturated Power Ranger color palettes and embrace darker, less saturated colors and more realistic textures. (Can you imagine anyone older than 15 embracing an X-men movie w/ the characters wearing their costumes from the comics?!)

Quote:Heck, my big rule for costume contests is to run by the contest runners to see what sort of costumes they have. Usually, you'll get a sense of what might win their costume contest. The reason you didn't get any first place votes is because different people like different things. And some people are just plain idiots. I've seen fantastic costumes with great attention to color balance and pieces used. And I've seen them lose to someone with a nearly exact duplicate of iron man. A guy with dark glasses, a leather jacket and blue jeans. And a girl in a bikini with chest slider maxxed.
Though, some days you are just going to lose against a Hamburglar/chicken or some other jokey costume. -
Quote:Not everybody's playing the high damage type characters. So, not entirely true. Also, I believe the holy shotgun does extra damage vs. True Undead. So it's aesthetic. In other words, this is equivalent to a temporary costume power - that just so happens to reduce your effectiveness if you use it.
Not that I would pay for a temporary power with limited charges. -
Quote:Aren't they true undead, the ghost slaying axe will do extra damage? As a couple of my characters noted, Kane's zombies are made by a different process than Vahzilok's - they aren't patchwork cyborgs. Nor are they Banished Pantheon Husks, as there's a distinct lack of glowing runes on their skin. Apparently, the bad doctor is an independent.

Too much silly and not enough scary is my idea of Halloween. It's not about the scares as much as it is about getting candy and light mischief making, if that's your bag.
