Ok so last night in atlas a few of us were judging all of our costumes, a certain costume of mine which i was VERY happy with didnt win any of the votes for first place So me and a friend of mine tried to edit it slightly to try and make it better but both of us couldnt put our finger on what was exactly missing.
This is where you come in! Could you please help me edit my costume slightly so it looks better? Screenies are below and also the character is called Rashnu Damz, Street Justice/Energy Aura scrapper.

I know the pictures arent of high quality but hey thats what i play at Thanks in advance for any help that comes forward!

The costume is not bad at all.. I think you didnt get any votes because it looks too common/avarage. Costume winners usually are the ones that manage to really stand out in the crowd!

For the roleplayers that often also counts as a look fitting your story and powers. Making this a good armor for special missions... but you might need to think of a look that fits better.

Rashnu Damz, Street Justice/Energy Aura scrapper
Rashnu? Does that stands for a Hindi name? Can you do with something like a streetfighter with body energy glowing hands from India. Using the same blue color as you use here for energy eyes but a hindi skin color... easy pants... a loose scarf around your waist. Maybe use the back option to look divine? Scar in your face....

Just throwing some idea 's in a totally different direction.

A bollywood baddass look would be something like this! Bollywood actor / fighter is a nice search option in this case in google. It gioves idea's.

Was looking through names of angels and the following just stood out to me.

Rashnu
Angel of Judgment
According to the ancient Persian religion, Rashnu is the angel who stands at the bridge to heaven and passes judgment on those who may pass.

Can see where your going with the costume idea though, was thinking somewhere along those lines originally. Can see what you mean about it maybe being seen as too average/common with the parts i used.

Sure.. I write that before I check the meaning of your name. Sorry about that.

Idea's of look for me come from names. So I should have started with a wiki search.

Rashnu is the Avestan language name of the Zoroastrian yazata of justice. Together with Mithra and Sraosha, Rashnu is one of the three judges who pass judgment on the souls of people after death. Rashnu's standard appellation is "the very straight."
[edit]In creation accounts

In the Bundahishn, a Zoroastrian account of creation finished in the 11th or 12th century, Rashnu (Middle Persian: Rashn) is identified as an assistant of the Amesha Spenta Ameretat (Amurdad), "immortality". (GBd xxvi.115). In a subsequent passage, Rashnu is described as the essence of truth (arta/asha) that prevents the daevas from destroying material Creation. "Rashnu adjudges even the souls of men and women as to bad deeds and good deeds. As one says, 'Rashnu shall not see thither the rank of the judge who delivers false judgment.'" (GBd xxvi.116-117).
[edit]In other texts

In the Avestan Dahman Afrin, Rashnu is invoked in an address to Ameretat. According to the Denkard, the Duwasrud Nask - a legal manual now lost - contained passages extolling the supremacy of Rashnu. (Dk 8.16) In the Siroza ("thirty days") "the very straight Rashnu ... augments the world and is the true-spoken speech that furthers the world." (Siroza 18).
[edit]Holy days

The 18th day of every month in the Zoroastrian calendar is dedicated to Rashnu. The Counsels of Adarbad Mahraspandan, a Sassanid-era text, notes that on the 18th day "life is merry".

This would prob ends you in some sort of earthly avatar or in a divine persian warrior. Persian ends up completely different.

Thanks Bathory Some of those things i admit i didnt know but has got me thinking of a new costume completely, his final costume as you say

Edit: Judging by your screenshots, i'ld say a mixture of the second and third pictures would be best suited for my character.

While your costume looks great to me, if I was hosting a costume contest, I still wouldn't consider it for any place, much less first.

Not trying to anger anyone, but I tend to notice a trend in costume contest judges. There used to be a very popular and awesome SG on Freedom (that may still be around, I'm not sure) that held a costume contest every Saturday night. They chose a new judge every week from their SG, and invariably the costumes they chose as the winners were, in my opinion, not worthy of winning.

Now, the big WHY?

Costumes are like music, movies, tv shows, games, and powersets. It's all subjective.

We all like to think our costumes are awesome and the best thing ever. But it's not the case. Our costumes (and bios) are, to us, full of wonder and we're geniuses.

To someone else, they are just meh.

I'm not trying to say I design outstanding costumes, it's just that when I've been in the rare costume costume contest I attend and get selected as a finalist, I get several people saying "seriously?" or "WTF?" or "How did that get selected and mine didn't?"

I love my costumes. I work hard on them. So does my fiancee, so does everyone else that I know, and I can tell you did as well, but I pretty much think everyone of her costumes looks like a thrown together mishmash of parts, just as she thinks mine are, and we both think our friends are.

This is why I rarely join, or even agree to judge a CC, because everyone thinks their costume is the best, but only the people judging will pick the ones that match what they think is awesome.

The place to go on the boards for costume advice is:
The Costume (Re)Design Thread
People there live to tell you what they like/don't like about your costume and give you new variations of it.

And yes, the thing to remember about costume contests is that the judges are ALWAYS biased. The winner is what THEY think is the best costume. It's a matter of personal preferences and so you can't put too much faith in it as an OBJECTIVE measurement of whether your costume is actually good or bad.

I'd say all that was missing was confidence/conviction in your costume.

I make the bestest costumes in the world ever (I keed, I keed!), but I don't always win every costume contest (I've filed a few lawsuits over it, but no victories yet)!

You probably know all this though and are just looking to redesign, but whatever... I've been away from the forums for a bit and felt I had to post something!

i think the costume looks pretty cool to begin with

i personally dont do costume contests because i feel the contests are always rigged or because the judges are too biased, and a huge waste of time if you dont win because you get jack squat for participating unless your 1st 2nd or 3rd

I would like that costume better with a cape. But no matter how awesome your costume is, there's a good chance it will lose to that solid black tights guy with a trenchcoat and sunglasses. Possibly because he has pink neckbolts and the judge just thought that was the bee's knees. Possibly because this time the Costume Contest was really just an excuse for a Supergroup to give their upoming new recruit public fanfare. In other words, it's best not to place toomuch weight on Costume Contest results.

This is so true.

I've been away for a year, but when I played before, I was in The Babes of War on Freedom, and we had a CC every Saturday night, as you said, sometimes two CC's and we usually rotated the judging. As you said, it's all subjective. Invariably, we'd judge a CC and immediately get "What? That's the worst costume ever!" or "How in the world did THAT costume win?" or "What are these judges thinking?". As you say, people tend to think they are the greatest costume designers the game has ever seen, and when you burst their bubble, it can get pretty ugly. Like the song says, "You can't please everyone, so you've got to please yourself". This is what we did with the CC's. We chose a new judge every time so that eventually everyone got to see their favorite costume types win. It cut way down on the arguing in the SG over whose was better, since, as you say, it is SO subjective.

The reason you didn't get any first place votes is because different people like different things. And some people are just plain idiots. I've seen fantastic costumes with great attention to color balance and pieces used. And I've seen them lose to someone with a nearly exact duplicate of iron man. A guy with dark glasses, a leather jacket and blue jeans. And a girl in a bikini with chest slider maxxed.

I aint complaining that i didnt win a contest or something like that, that was just the actual place which shook me up a bit.

What happened was that i asked everybody who was standing around Atlas whether or not they thought my costume was good and the general thought was "could be a lot better". Which then got me talking to my friend and spending almost an hour tweaking colours and possibly adding a third colour and changing the shoulder pads and things like that to see what exactly was missing.

I will be keeping that costume while i make the other costume that was suggested, simply because i cant help but feel that all is missing is one small bit

Heck, my big rule for costume contests is to run by the contest runners to see what sort of costumes they have. Usually, you'll get a sense of what might win their costume contest.

Though, some days you are just going to lose against a Hamburglar/chicken or some other jokey costume.

Yep, it was the Babes. And they were (are) a great group of people. It was just, as was said by ThePill above, that usually the people who win are looking for costumes just like they are wearing themselves.

I made a peacebringer once. I did the typical "Fashion Model Gorgeous, Great Body, Big Breasts, Long Legs, Lingerie, White Wings, modern-day Angel look" and named her Let Them Not Weep (after Heather Nova's cover of "Gloomy Sunday"). She had dark skin and white hair for contrast, and in my eyes, it made her look even more exotic and beautiful.

Upon being announced as a finalist in a costume contest, which turned out to be fake, (a whole other can of worms altogether,) I was immediately bombarded with /local and /broadcast chat of things like "let them not suck" and other lack of wit responses. Of course, most of those were the typical looks of schoogirl, magician's assistant/ Vegas showgirl, or the ever popular tight leather.
