  1. The only things I see that make me curious are as follows:

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Akamai NetSession Interface] C:\Users\Gateway\AppData\Local\Akamai\netsession_w in.exe

I'm wondering if this could be doing something in the background that is interfering with the game and causing it to not conflict with the video card's instructions or the timing of those instructions.

    O23 - Service: NVIDIA Update Service Daemon (nvUpdatusService) - NVIDIA Corporation - C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\NVIDIA Updatus\daemonu.exe

You may want to try turning off the auto-update feature of the driver. It's possible that it is trying to check for a new driver version and getting a conflict with something that is causing the timeout.

    O23 - Service: Trend Micro Personal Firewall (TmPfw) - Trend Micro Inc. - C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Internet Security\TmPfw.exe
    O23 - Service: Trend Micro Proxy Service (TmProxy) - Trend Micro Inc. - C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Internet Security\TmProxy.exe

Either of these could possibly be causing a conflict, perhaps even with another program such as the Akamai Net Session or the nVidia Update service. I don't know enough about the specifics of either of them to make a specific configuration suggestion however.

I'm not seeing a specific instance for an anti-virus program although it could be part of the Trend Micro products. Are you running an anti-virus program? If yes, has it been kept updated and how long since you've run a full system scan with it?

Aside from that, I'm not sure what is going on.

I tried to run DXDiag but I don't know if I'm stupid or what, it didn't seem to be actually doing anything. I've never used it before, so I'm probably just ignorant. I ran the Game Advisor earlier, I'll post as much of that as I can.
OK. That's a shortcut to HiJackThis. It "should" have still given you the Run as Administrator option, but we may be able to work around that. Right-click on it and select Properties. Click the Compatibility tab. Down near the bottom put a check mark in the box for Run this program as an Administrator and then click OK. Then try to run it again.

From what I can get from the other logs, it looks like you are running Windows 7 w/Service Pack 1. From some of the driver file names, it seems to be a 64-bit version. EDIT: Sorry, didn't see the 64-bit part of your answer. Duh, me.

The video driver is the 285.62 driver from October. I don't deal with the newer nVidia drivers enough to know if that's been a problematic driver or not. Sometimes drivers work differently on the M versions of the chips in laptops that don't show up in desktop versions of that chipset.

I don't know what to suggest for CoH Helper. I've never been able to reproduce that error to figure out what causes it, and the I've not seen a post by the writer of the program in quite a while. Did you right-click CoH Helper and Run as Administrator?
  3. I've not been logged out for short times of inactivity on the forums since whatever they did during the forum maintenance last week. It still logs me out from inactivity when I log in before work from home, check a few posts, go to work, come home 8+ hours later and check the forums. Of course, I've also been logged in from work during that time so it may be logging me out due to the login from a different IP.

Remember me still doesn't however. If I close my browser I have to log in again.

If Jay is not leading the charge then someone needs to start looking real hard at the direction costumes have started to head to.
Jay is no longer there. /Brando He got an offer he couldn't refuse. /Brando

From what I understand, he was there and still quite active when the Gunslinger set was being worked on. He was definitely still active when the previously released sets were worked on.
  5. I'm going to PM a link to this thread to Arbiter Warrant. I'm sure he'll get it on the nightly scrub, but since this contains a list of several items I want to be sure he sees it.
  6. What version of Windows are you using? Windows XP? Windows Vista? Windows 7? Is it a 32-bit version or 64-bit version? Since you are not getting the option to Run as Administrator when you right-click the HiJackThis file, I suspect you are running Windows XP.

Can you give us a model number of the computer? Processor information, amount of memory, etc all would be helpful.

You may want to run DXDiag from the Run box and post the results of that here. If it's too much for one post don't worry, most of what we would need is near the beginning anyway. Since CoH Helper and HiJackThis aren't running right it may indicate bigger problem than just the drivers.
  7. I would load the character in, go to a trainer and select to change the costume, don't make any changes but save the costume as it is, exit the game and go back to the character select screen.

Delete the character using the spelling as it is shown in the delete confirmation box. If that doesn't work, delete it using the spelling shown in the character selection menu and in the game. One of those two should delete it. If it deletes, quickly remake the character using the saved costume file and make sure the name is spelled right before completing the character creation.

If it doesn't delete, file a ticket at https://support.cityofheroes.com/ and they should be able to help you in getting it fixed.
  8. It would be most helpful to us if you would follow the instructions in Hyperstrike's [Guide] Asking for technical help on the forums thread that is stickied in this forum section.

That being said, when you updated your drivers did you uninstall the old drivers first, reboot and run a driver sweeper program in Safe Mode, reboot into normal Windows then install the new drivers or did you simply install them over the top of the existing drivers? If it was the latter, you may have a corrupted driver installation causing your problems. Driver Sweeper is a good free program to use.

As for this only happening in CoH, it is likely due to CoH being one of the few games using OpenGL as it's main rendering engine. Most other games are using DirectX instead.

    • The drop rate of Rare and Very Rare Incarnate Components has been increased for the final encounter of Keyes Island Reactor.
    • The Underground Incarnate Trial will always award a Rare or Very Rare component after successful completion of the Avatar of Hamidon encounter for players who participate for the entire event's duration.
My recommendation would be to file a /bug report and send a PM to Arbiter Warrant pointing him to this thread.
  10. They already told you. You can go to level 50+5, which is exactly what the Wiki says.

This means that to actually purchase what was once in a Super Booster ends up costing you usually twice as much as you would have paid previously.

It's why a lot of people, once hearing about freedom, basically went out and bought all the super boosters they were missing since it was a lot cheaper to do it that way.
As part of the Black Friday sale the Martial Arts Super Booster Pack was put in the Market for a short time at a low price of 400 Points, making it a $5 purchase, much cheaper than when the Super Boosters were sold in the NCSoft store.
  12. WAI.

Locked slots are exactly that. Locked. Meaning you can do nothing with that slot or characters in that slot until it is unlocked. Locked means it is completely inaccessible unless unlocked.
  13. You will need to file a support ticket at https://support.cityofheroes.com/

There is nothing that we, the players, can do to assist you aside from giving information such as what Gaia has done.

  14. Also, you have to consider that it is a weekend and a holiday weekend at that. Also, from the time stamp of your post it was in the middle of the night.

I know that they have a lighter staffing on weekends, and I'm pretty sure that it's even lighter on a holiday weekend.

Since many of the lower tier support people are supporting all of the NCSoft games, it will likely take a bit longer to get to all of the tickets. It may also be that the ones working aren't as familiar with CoH as they may be with other games they support, so they may be having to look up information or trying to figure out what the problem is since they don't know the game as well.
  15. *pretty much agrees with houtex*

*also, punctuation, learn it, use it*

    houtex, it's spelled shenanigans.

  16. You haven't been looking in the right threads.

There has been plenty of rage against the "pay to win" aspect of SBE's and other items in the market.

Of course, I'm still trying to figure out how you "win" in CoH, outside of PvP.

I've known of several people playing CoH on an XP 64 machine with no problems. I also know a few others that play some other MMOs and FPS games with no problems on XP 64.

As for Windows ME, if you knew what tweaks to make, it was stable and handled networking better than Win 98 did. I know a few people that ran it with no issues for several years and one even used it as a gaming server for testing network hardware performance when needed.

Of course, if you didn't tweak it and did a standard install it was only a matter of time until it started having problems.

So that $15 purchase would be about $16.50 or so for me.
Similarly, subscribers in California and Texas are charged tax as well due to NCSoft holdings such as Paragon Studios in Mountain View, California and NCSoft US offices in Austin, Texas.

    Play? Yes.

Play with enjoyable graphics? Very doubtful.

Would I recommend it for purchase for gaming, especially on CoH? Not a chance.

That has been my experience with XP 64 as well. I've done work on some friends computers that had XP 64 installed and never seen any other problems that would be specific to that OS version.

I've not heard any reports of it being unstable as WanderingAries suggests.
  21. Something is keeping CoH Helper from accessing the registry settings so your CoH Helper report doesn't contain any of the game settings. I would suspect it is something in one of the Symantec products blocking access to the registry. Without those settings, it is difficult to tell if it is a game setting that may be causing the problem.

The GamerOSD may be causing some of your problems, especially if you are using it for overclocking. Some similar programs such as RivaTuner and EVGA Precision Tool have been known to cause problems with accessing parts of the game. Try shutting down the GamerOSD completely to see if that helps resolve the problems. You may want to set things back to default if you've been using it for overclocking before shutting it down.

The other things that I notice are that you have a lot of unnecessary programs running in the background, which can use up resources and memory that the game may need. You may want to shut off these unneeded programs such as Adobe Reader Speed Launcher, QuickTime Task, Java Update Scheduler and similar.

Also, your D: drive is getting rather low on space. If the game is on that drive, you may want to free up a bit of space to get it to around 20% or above on the Free Space readings.
  22. Don't try to enter your base. *badumptish*

Oh, an idea that might help? Well, for that, more information would be helpful.

Post the output from CoH Helper and HiJackThis as explained in Hyperstrike's [Guide] Asking for technical help on the forums thread that is stickied in this forum section.
