ALERT! TV Tropes site pushing malware

Heads up kiddies. Apparent TVTropes' ad server isn't being terribly picky about the ads they serve. Over the last couple days I've gotten a couple infection attempts, and finally SOMETHING got my laptop.

As of right now I'm ceasing posting of TVTropes links, and you guys would do well to avoid this productivity virus, as you could pick up another type unknowingly.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

I've always considered TVTropes to be a virus, no need to change my behavior.

*snarf*

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Black Pebble is my new hero.

This is my first virus infection in over a decade (and the last one was due to my brother being an idiot on my computer). I'm incredibly not-happy about this.

Thanks for the heads-up.

*Heads off to try to add a few more viruses to the collection*

Just got off an e-mail dialog with Gus, the guy who owns and runs TVTropes.

Apparently I'm not his first notice on this.

TVTropes will be switching ad providers on Monday.

The first time this happened was the LAST time this happened, at work. I blacklisted *all* banner ad servers. If they can't be bothered to check their submitards, then I can't be bothered to show the ads.

At home, my malware software and settings are doin' a decent enough job, so far... And I don't just go anywhere without googling it first...

/worse than flu viruses... always changing.

This is houtex, aka Mike, signing off the forums. G'night all. - 10/26/2012
Well... perhaps I was premature about that whole 'signing off' thing... - 11-9-2012

Indeed. ABP and NoScript are your friends. Backed up by AVG and MalwareBytes; at least on my system they are.

Okay,

As of 12/08/2011, this is still happening.
I've reported it to Gus at TVTropes, but I don't know what else is gonna happen.

Guys. Do your friends a favor and stop linking to TVTropes.

This is exactly what I run on all my systems. Good stuff.
